Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome back to the Mass Funny podcast with
me Joshua Fox. And it is an exciting day, guys,
because the Circus as finally rolled back into town. Season
thirteen is now officially in production and filming. And yesterday
I attended my first wedding and it was an honor
to be there to witness the sparks fly between. Who
(00:22):
I can reveal was bride Rebecca Mkowski from Melbourne and
groom Steve Powell from the Gold Coast, who are this
year's token over a couple?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
And was I invited to their big day? Nope? Do
I know either of them personally? Awesome? No?
Speaker 1 (00:38):
And have I been invited to any of the twelve
weddings at gate Crashed over the last three or four years?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Also?
Speaker 1 (00:44):
No?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
And can the producers stop me?
Speaker 1 (00:46):
I would like to see them try now before we
get to the drama and everything that's happening on set
of the next year's season. Overnight, my video at Rebecca
and Steve's wedding went viral and everyone has asked the
same question, And it's the same question I'm asked a
year in and year out, How the hell do I
know where the weddings are going to be filmed. Now,
(01:14):
I've seen so many conspiracy theories and speculation about this,
rumors I'm secretly paid by Channel nine post claiming the
producers themselves tell me for publicity, and I'm sorry to
say that.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
None of that is true.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
And every year it's just a combination of common sense
and messages.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
From you people.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
And if you're confused with what I'm in by that,
basically every year married at first, I use the same everything,
like the brides and grooms are booked into the same
hotels and that before their weddings, and these like only
four different ones that they rotate. They're then drove to
the weddings by the same limo company with the same driver,
those limits, all of the same registrations. They get married
(01:56):
in the same venues as previous couples, and the weddings
are always at the end of July or the start
of August. And when it comes to this time of year,
I do three things. Number one is I'll do a
post on Instagram being like yo, if you see any
weddings or anything being filmed.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Just drop me a message.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Number two, I have a paparazzi friend who I keep
in contact with and we kind of like share intel
and often, like in his day to day work, when
he's driving from job to job, he'll often just kind
of swing by the hotels and venues that we know
they use it. And it's always obvious if there's going
to be a wedding filmed at one of them, because
when you go past in the morning, there's going to
(02:34):
be huge trucks. They'll have like cones where they've sectioned
off a side of the road, There'll be signs that
say filming here today, and it's just always like a
huge setup. So the second you see any of that,
it's like, well, okay, we're on. And then number three,
while I'm just out and about in my day to
day life, like going to my actual job and going
(02:54):
to the gym in the city, I just keep my
eyes open. And like last year, if you remember, right
when I crashed Elliott and Lauren's Big Day, which was
being filmed at the State Theater in Sydney, CBD. Do
you know how I found that? Like I was on
a date in the city that evening after work. I'd
been for a drink with this guy. We were walking
to another place and I saw a limo in traffic
(03:17):
in the city and then I was like, ah, that's
the same company they always use. And then I look
at it again and there's a GoPro attached to the
side of it, so I'm like, well, that's obviously a
maths when and we then followed it for like three
minute in the city and it pulled up at the
State Theater and that's how I then filmed when Elliott
and Lauren left, like I said to my day, Yo,
do you mind if we just stand here and I'm
going to shout something a couple I don't know if
(03:39):
they leave, and he was a bit confused, but he
went with it. Didn't I get a second date?
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Nope.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
And then one of my most viral videos a few
years ago was when Ollie of Oli and Tiny Fame
was leaving a hotel and getting into a limo to
go to his wedding and as he left, I shouted
good luck, you're gonna need it, and the female producer
that like gave me this sassy look and she was like,
can you not? And then that ended up being white
went viral because everyone was like, babe, like, don't take
(04:06):
it so seriously.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
It's not that deep, like.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Lighting up and you know how I found Oli That
morning again, I was in the city as I am
most days. I was walking to the gym down Kent Street,
and then I saw a limo pull up outside Fraser Suites,
which I know they use every year, and this was
on a Monday morning. So I was like, well, obviously
it's a mass winning because literally who in the world
gets married on.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
A Monday morning.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
So then I was like, I'm not gonna have the
way hours are, is this going to be a while away?
Then I just looked into the lobby and saw like
a film crew assembling, which means whoever was upstairs brider
groom I didn't know, was going to leave imminently, standing
about for fifteen minutes and then out OLLI came and like,
people never believe that, but it's literally that.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Simple most of the time.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Like there's no sneaky shit people leaking locations, GPS track
is of like all these things as he people read
and speculate it. I wish it was that exciting. And
like even yesterday, for example, right I knew there was
a wedding being filmed somewhere because they started at the
start of the week a guy on TikTok actually spotted one,
(05:12):
and then I was like, oh, okay, well filming is
now one. So while I was in the city for
work yesterday, I did my little walk past three of
the hotels they used to.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
See if I could see anything. I didn't.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
As I was then walking to my car to drive
home to the eastern suburbs, I thought, well, the weather
is nice today, so I'm going to swing by firstly Swifts,
which is like a castlely mansion thing they use They've
used for a couple of weddings before because they could
do a ceremony on the lawn there.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
And I will swing.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
By a Centennial Park just to see if I see
any of the trucks or anything. And I went to
Swift's and there was nothing there, and then I thought,
all right, let me go to Macas and then we're
going to just stop by Centennial Park and then if nothing,
I'm just going to go home, because like, I'm not
putting more than an hour or two of my day
into search for a wedding, Like if it's meant to be,
it will be anyway. So then I'm in Macas and
(06:04):
I only went there because I have you heard of
this new big Arch burger. I hadn't until yesterday, and
I was like, I need to try this anyway. Side note,
it wasn't that good. It was kind of messy.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
But then while I'm.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Finishing that big archburger, I opened Insta and then there's
a message from a lovely listener who I won't name
it because I don't know if she wants me to
name her.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
But you know who you are.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
And she was like, oh, Josh, I've just saw a
limo and some cameras like in Centennial Park while I
was walking my dog. Then I was like, oh, well, sick,
that was my next stop anyway, but you've just confirmed that,
like I need to get their asaps.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
So then I drove for seven minutes, got.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
There, and then awaited like maybe half an hour, and
then it was on filming started. I did my finger
then went home like it was that easy. And that's
what it's like every year, and I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Occasionally, they might.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Be like a vendor like a florist or a guest
of the wedding who is a follower of mine, and
they may send me like a subtle DM like hey,
there's a wedding on this date, but they never tell
me where because they never know. Like every year, the
only people that really know the exact location are the
producers and the crew who don't leak shit, and everyone
(07:10):
else involved. They're give them like a different location, and
then the vendors are only really told at the very
last minute on the actual day, and the guests they're
actually sent to like a random hotel somewhere where they
have their phones taken off them and they're then put
in minibuses and taken to the actual location which they
still have.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
No idea about.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
And then if they do know me and have been
in contact with me, they no longer have their phones
to text me like yo, Josh, it's here. And to me,
it's funny because like they do all of this and
go to all these measures to prevent leaks, but every
year we still find them some you know, and the
most shine just chill out. Yeah, and now let's move
on to why this year's season is going to look
(07:52):
a little bit different. Firstly, as I said in a
recent episode of this podcast, after how far things went
last year and the fact Safe Work, New South Wales
have been investigating things and are keeping an eye on production.
The producers can't go as hard as they have in
previous years, and they can't cross lines like they have
before to get the reactions they.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Want out of the cast.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
And if you confuse what I mean by that, like,
remember their job title is a producer, which means they
need to produce things and produce the people on it.
And if they want a certain storyline or reaction, it
is literally their job to produce that person, using whatever
tactics and manipulation to get that. And if any of
(08:36):
this year's cast a listening to this, never forget that fact.
These people they will pretend to be your friends. They'll
say whatever they know you want to hear. They'll make
you feel seen and validated when you start to miss
home and question, you know, if this is worth your time,
And while they're doing that, they'll subtly start to steer
you towards whatever narrative they want and you won't even
(08:58):
realize until months later. If, for example, you're a bride
on this year's season, right, and your husband maybe just
said something at the honeymoon which was a bit off
or a bit controversial, but you didn't really react because
you're just thinking oh.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Like you may bee processing it.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
It will start right with your producer then pulling you aside,
you know, isolating you, and they'll drop a little seed
where they're like, oh my god, are you okay?
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Like that was weird, wasn't it. I can't believe you
just said that, And like they speak to you like
you're a friend.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
And then they'll build upon that, you know, they'll gain
your trust and they'll drop those little seeds and then
it will get bigger and bigger until you essentially do
what they say. And again, most of the time you
don't realize it at the time. And in previous years
this has escalated to the extremes of cast members claiming
they can't leave or go to bed until they essentially
(09:45):
say whatever a producer is saying they have to say.
But again, as I've also said, that's the big difference
this year, the producers can't go to these extremes anymore.
Like they must see the cast members as equal contributors
and inmployees working on set of this TV show, which
is a like work business, Like it's not an office,
(10:07):
but it's like a work location, instead of like seeing
them as their puppets, like previously, and they have to
ensure that they treat the cast with the same respect
and the same rights as they do towards you know,
the camera guys, the runners, the drivers, everyone else who's
involved in that show and employed on that show. And
I feel that I noticed that shift yesterday too, and
(10:30):
everyone being more cautious because whereas in recent years, the
producers would be blocking me as they crash weddings, and
they'd make sly shitty comments to me, and once, like
one even sent me threats over Instagram like yo, if
you have a cross, my shoot like you and like
shit like that, and just often they're like set and
do things just to kind of like as a power player,
(10:51):
to be like we're above you, we have control here,
we own you type of shit, and like I often
just laugh and be like it's not that deep, chill out.
But yesterday, no one said anything. None of them came
near me, none of them tried to block me or
stop me or do anything. They just let me do
my thing and nothing. At one point, one of the
(11:13):
assistant camera guys was filming me on his iPhone and
I was just waving it.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
I'm like all right, cool, enjoy And.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
As far as I'm told, that's because they kind of
no and the reach I have with my platforms at
a time when there's this spotlight on the producers and
everyone who makes this show more than ever after what
happened last season, and they all know that if they
get shitty with me while I'm doing my thing, and
just for like background context, when i do my thing
(11:41):
and I'm crashing and having fun.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
I'm still respectful.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
I still stay out of their camera guys shots.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
I'll make sure like I'm not ruining things.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
I'm just having fun and being cheeky, like I'm not
there to destroy or actually inconveniencing, you know, all these things. Again,
they know that, and they now know that if a
producer steps over a line with me where they're just
being a dickhead unnecessarily and trying to exude some power
over me, they know that I'm just going to film
(12:10):
them and make them the story. And they also know
that my videos get millions of views, like the one
yesterday is already at like seven hundred thousand. Last season
I added up in total, I had to think one
hundred and four million video views just from the start
of that season until the end so like they know
the reach I have. And it's funny, noow, because yesterday
I was like, oh, why did.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
No one try to stop me? Why they just let
me do my thing? And it was great.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
And what's also funny is I can tell you, guys
that a week or so ago now, when like the
brides are met for the hens and the grooms for
the books, like, they had meetings as groups with the
producers and the publicists and all that. And during that meeting,
I was personally named as someone they must stay away from.
And I know they do this every year and then
name me every year, but this year I was told
(12:56):
there was a lot more emphasis on do not engage
with Josh, which to me is so funny and embarrassing
for them.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
But I'm also kind of flattered.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Anyway, before I wrap this up, a few more points,
it does seem there is already a bit of drama
between the cast. Yesterday Daily Mail ran some pictures of
a woman getting married earlier in the week in Sydney.
I've been told that she is called Beck, She's from
South Australia, and I'm told that she's not very popular
amongst the other brides. To the point they're are saying
she's the rude one, and this is apparently after pissing
(13:28):
some of them off at the Hen's party a few
weeks ago. I don't know what she did or said,
that's just the intel I've been told. But then someone
else messages me saying that same woman who's apparently called
Beck from South Australia is going to be really fun
and great TV and very entertaining. So it's always funny
this time of year because you get so many people
saying so many different things that we just have to
(13:50):
kind of take everything with a pinch of salt, and
is the saying a grain of salt? Anyway, whatever, we
have to take it with some kind of salt and
then figure it out for ourselves.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
And yeah, that's kind of it. For now.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
We'll see what else happens this week. There's more weddings
and am I gonna go? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
I've got other shit to do.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
And if you guys actually have any more questions about production, producers,
filming and how things work at this stage of the show,
send me a message on Instagram because I will probably
do a podcast answering all but for now, have a
lovely day
