Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome back to the Maths Funny Podcast with
Me Joshua Fox and guys, if there is a reality
television shaped hole in your life right now, well don't worry,
because I'm a celebrity. Get me out of here. Starts
airing I think the first or second week of January,
and they've now basically dropped clues about the entire cast,
meaning that we have what four weeks until it starts

(00:23):
airing to go all inspect the gadget and figure out
which famous faces will be moving into the jungle, going
solely off all these little hints and clues that Robert
Irwin and Julia Morris are teasing in all of the promos.
And if you can't bother doing that yourselves, don't worry
because I've basically done it for you. Now. Firstly, like

(00:46):
most is on the show, there is a former married
at first castmember going in. But before we get to that,
let's start with the bigger names they've got, because every year,
you know, they blow half the budget on one or
two international stars, like a big American, are a big
British person. Then you know, I think it was a
year or two ago we had Malcolm from Malcolm in

(01:07):
the Middle, and it sounds that this year we're going
to be getting someone from The Big Bang Theory all
out the Red Harmon. Robert only wants it. Constar is
making his jungle taboo. When he needs a bunch of
our jungle friends, we'll go off with a big bank.
It's trying to be a star. Yeah. Notice Robert Owen

(01:29):
in that said like they're going to make plenty of
friends and there'll be a big bank. So maybe it's
like an actor who appeared in both Friends and The
Big Bang Theory. But whoever that is may be in
the jungle alongside a Spice Girl. Because listen to this,
it's not a bust of moon nighties. Pop Star is
headlining in Africa. We have had super of the time.

(01:51):
There's no turning back. Celebrity status won't save him. Now
now you're probably thinking, Josh, how the hell have I
figured out that's a Spice Girl. Well, the clue is
in the way that they said they'll have a bumper
of a time. As I assume none of you know this,
but in nineteen ninety six, when the Spice Girls released
their debut single want to Be That Like CD, do

(02:12):
you remember we actually had to buy CDs when a
song came out and you'd have like the song that
maybe like a radio edit, and then a random B
side where the B side on that single was a
track called Bumper to Bumper? Is this the first time

(02:37):
I've heard that track myself? Yes? Can I now understand
why it was a B side? Also? Yes? But could
this mean there is a Spice Girl? If there is,
I'd say it's likely mel C just because she's been
in Australia I think twice this year doing like random
DJ sets and she was here recently. I'm not sure
what for I think again doing like a club tour.

(03:00):
She was like doing the media rounds, which was kind
of boosting her profile on this side of the world,
you know, just kind of getting her back in our faces.
So that could mean we'll be seeing more of a soon.
I don't know. But now let's circle back to which
math star is going in. Take a listen to this
teaser here comes to Bride, drench her and five let's

(03:24):
give a rebellious reality Brider Bride at first sight. Now,
the interesting thing there is they say rebellious, but then
in the advert they also use the text bride Zilla,
which has me thinking, well, it's obviously a former controversial
cast member, and I've seen people in comments speculating that
it could be Jackie from this year's season and as

(03:47):
entertaining as she would be in the Jungle, I personally
don't think it would be Jackie solely because when shows
like I'm Aslev cast somebody they want them to bring,
like juicy stories and a bit of drama that you
know the media are going to pick up, you know,
so they're in the daily mail every day. And the
problem I think if they cast Jackie is most of

(04:08):
her stories that she'd be sharing from the past year,
like are tied to legal issues, you know, the AVO
stuff with Ryan, which I'm not sure if that's still pending,
so I should have researched. But do you know what
I mean, Like as entertaining as she would be as
a just cast member in the jungle doing crazy stuff,

(04:29):
there is that whole side which Channel ten are a
lot safer than nine when it comes to reality and
they're like, you're all family friendly and clean and easy,
whereas that could be a bit legally difficult. Uh. And
then other people are speculating, well, it could be Jamie,
who is obviously probably the fan favorite from this past year,

(04:50):
and I wouldn't be surprised at that, because you know
she would bring ratings as she's got the biggest audience.
But then the thing that throws me off there is
the way they call her a bridezilla in the text,
which jog my memory. But I don't think Jamie was
ever a bridezilla. You could probably say she was rebellious,
like she spoke, she spoke out, she spoke on mine,
But bridezilla, I'm not sure. And then let's look back

(05:13):
on the previous mass people they've cast on this show. Again,
it goes back to that finger of they want someone
who's maybe been in a bit of drama, controversial, but
still essentially is liked and has a big audience. They
started with Ryan Gallagher. Then they had Divina, who was
obviously like a villain, but they didn't cast her until
like three years after her season had died off, and

(05:33):
by that point most people had moved on and she
was kind of just an influencer again with a big audience.
They then had Domenica. Again, she's very similar to Jamie,
a bit outspoken but popular. Last year they had Samantha Motzi.
I think how you say her surname. She was the
blonde bride who was married to Al Perkins. That for
me was super random because she didn't really have that

(05:54):
big of a presence, but ultimately like she was likable.
So yeah, my money is on I think Jamie or
if they do like more of an iconic Maths one
from previous years, I would say Cyrel and that would
make sense because she may have impressed Channel ten when

(06:15):
she was on The Amazing Race that was like a
year ago, or potentially Lauren Dunn from last year's season.
And I'm only saying these names because they would want
someone I assume who is still like present in the
media a fair amount, you know, so he's still a
little relevant and has an audience. And Jamie, Lauren and

(06:36):
Cyrel kind of fit that bill. Do you guys agree?
Let me know, send me a message on Insta because
like they're my free topics. But I could be completely wrong.
And whoever does go in for Maths, it sounds like
they will be there with somebody from Love Island. Oh
this one will rattle the kid reality bad boy will

(06:59):
leave the eel jungle strip. I bet you can't get
who it is. Most people are speculating that's gonna be
Matt Zakowski, who was on Love Island maybe five years
ago and then got married to Tammy Embro and most
recently got divorced from Tammy Embro and it's all a
bit messy, and he would be like a great get
for the show because you know, anything he says about

(07:19):
that is just going to generate so much press and
so much virility on social media. And if it is Matt,
he also wouldn't be the only guy from a dating
show because listen to this, oh a rugby league, Romeo
is going from dodging tariles that just dodging frogs. They
might be kicking goals in the jungle. They'll just be

(07:41):
kicking and screaming. The clue there for me isn't the
fact that the guy played rugby, but the way they
said Romeo, and I'm thinking that is Luke Batesman, who
some of you may know as one of the Free
Bachelors in twenty twenty three. Do you remember when they
randomly did like a Freeman series, It was Luke, that
guy who now reads books on TikTok and Jed the

(08:02):
Little Emo and you know, prior to Luke being the
Bachelor that year aka Romeo, he played for the South
the South's slogan Magpies and Miles Devils and these teams
real I'm reading on Wikipedia. These I'm made up. And
then also the camera Raiders alongside all of them. We
also have a radio queen going into the jungle this year.

(08:23):
Take a listen to this. Give me some gossip. I
don't have any, but I know who does. Radio Queen
will be making wives on the jungle. They will bring
the ra the dazzle, the sparkle, the arcle, cool havea
jungle talking now. The most obvious guest that I would
be Jackiel because she is the Queen of radio in Australia.

(08:43):
But it is not Jackie ooe like she she doesn't
need to do a show like that. My guest would
be Robin Bailey, who you guys in Brisbane would know
most recently from the Robin Kip and Corey Oats Breakfast show.
That show is really acts, meaning you know, her schedule
is free in the new year. And the biggest clue

(09:05):
here was in the video for that teaser that you've
just heard. They kept using like imagery of Flamingos, which
might seem random, but Robin has a book coming out
in January, aka perfect timing for her going on a
show like am Celeb, and the book is called Flamingo's
Aunt Born Pink. Robin would also be a great get

(09:26):
for the show, not just because she's like a great
broadcaster and very popular amongst women and like a demographic
that this show wants to attract, but like she's just
lived such a I don't want to say sad life,
but she's been through a lot on This book, which
is coming out in January, is kind of a memoir
in a sense that she co wrote with one of
her sons, and it's about how her first husband and

(09:49):
the father of her children, took his own life when
they were younger, and then Robin eventually moved on, and
then her second husband died of liver cancer. So she
he has had like a very sad life. But again,
she is kind of if you've listened to her show
in Brisbane, she is a joy to listen to and
it just seems like a lovely person. So that would

(10:10):
be a good get that I'm a celeb and I
won't bother playing all the rest of the teasers. But
they've got an international supermodel who they're saying is connected
to Rock Royalty, and most people are speculating that's Rachel Hunter,
who is married to Rod Stewart. They've also got a
Master Chef star, a LOGI winning actor, someone from Neighbors,
and an afl A lister. I'll look date you guys

(10:32):
if anything gets confirmed or officially leaked, but for now
then my guess is that's who were likely going to
be seeing and have a lovely weekend.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
