Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome back to the Mathspony podcast with me
Josh Fox. And firstly, I got a sponsor. If you
just said that little add there at the start, apologies
for that if you didn't enjoy it, but also got
rent to pay, so yeah, there's an advert for you.
And now, secondly, apologies that I have been m i
A for a few weeks now and I can't really

(00:21):
say much at this very moment, but I may have
been off traveling around Australia filming something very exciting that
you may be able to watch and stream in maybe
like a month's time. And it may also be like
a brand new type of reality show which has never

(00:42):
been done before. But you know, there are just maybes
wink wink, nudge, nudge. Who knows. But for now on
the subject of reality television, as most of this year's
Married at First Sight cast have now started to fade
into oblivion, which is what happens every year this time
of the year, a group of wholesome pensioners have stepped

(01:04):
into their spotlight after The Golden Bachelor premiered on Channel
nine earlier this week. And you know what, this show
is kind of messy, like it may seem wholesome and
cute so far on screen, but like I've got the
behind the scenes gossip and the drama and all the
rumors that are now spilling and leaking in. Yeah, it

(01:26):
makes Maths kind of look low key. And if you
haven't watched it yet, I think what I'm gonna get
into next will make you want to tune in asap.
All right, so before I get to the drama, let
me just bring everyone up today so we're all on
the same page. As we all know, the Golden Bachelor
is essentially just a normal bachelor back here in Australia,

(01:47):
back on our screens. But instead of having like some
young Muscli dude who wants to get insta famous, we're
going for people of aged or fifty and over aka
golden people. Is that what we call lord people now? Apparently?
So yeah, it's basically just a Bachelor for old people.
And this year's leading man is sixty one year old
Barry the Bear Maiden.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I know one thing for sure, I'm nervous as hell,
but in this tux I kind of feel like James Bond.
I think it's time for me to find someone to love.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Now.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
A quick point here, is calling a man in his
sixties bear a bit cringe because to me it is,
and that's what he's going by on the show, and
like in interviews and everything, like no one's calling him Barry.
He's just known as Bear. And also, in my world,
the gay word when you're called betan something completely different.
And this bear is not a gay bear. But anyway,
Golden Bear, I'm gonna call him Big Bear from now.

(02:42):
And Big Bear is originally from Canada. He's a father
to three boys, and he's sadly lost his wife, Audrey,
fourteen years ago and he's now ready to settle down
again with somebody new, hopefully, you know, he's open to
finding love again. And when it comes to the ladies
that Channel nine have cast for him on the show,
it seems he might just find that somebody because you

(03:03):
know how, I'm married at first sight. Like if you
asked all of the brides and they're what they're looking
for in a guy, they'd list things like, oh, well,
he must have a range rover, he must have a
sleeve full of tattoos, he must have a blue take
on Instagram, he must have a massive cock. Well, here's Bears,
ladies talking about what they're all looking for in a partner,
as women above a certain edge. I think the youngest

(03:26):
one is like early fifties, So yeah, women like fifties
and sixties.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
Kind eyes at the window to the soul.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Someone who believes in me, he's just a little bit sheky, respect, honesty, integrity,
not being full of shit. Someone who is caring and
looks after you and does imprompt you, lunches and dinners.

Speaker 4 (03:44):
Falling back and wanting to see you again, really soon
after the first date, giving things a go at sixty
good bed and ugly, just experiencing life.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Is a silver.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Fox, being a good human, being good in bed and
not necessarily in that order.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
And by the end of the first episode of Golden
Buchelor earlier this week, everyone basically assumed that Big Bat
is going to pick this lovely lady Jeanette, who read
him this very sweet poem.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
Shaking a little bit. Oh gosh, look at me, thank you.
I may be golden, but my spirit is ageless. A

(04:31):
heart that dances wild and courageous. Five year solo A
chapter I am ready to end, a brand new story,
ready to repenned. If you're ready for laughter, for passion
for fun. Then perhaps our journey has just begun.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Oh that's beautiful and that news for you.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
That's fu thank you. I feel incredibly honored. The Jeanette
showed me that level of vulnerability cracked open something in me, actually,
something I haven't felt in a very long time.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Anyway, quick side note, you know how I'm like low
key a writer myself and did the book last year
and stuff. Well, I took it upon myself to Rewritejeanett's
poem from my perspective as if that was me stood
up there with Big Bear. So I'm going to now,
like you know, cut between Jeanette's version and Josh's version,
and you guys just make up your mind which one
you like the most.

Speaker 5 (05:31):
I maybe Golden that my spherit is ageless, a heart,
the dancers, wild and courageous.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Not sure why I'm here there, but I'd like to
see your undress. I've got a thing for older guys
that I must express.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
Five year solo a chapter. I am ready to end,
a brand new story, ready to be pinned.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Nobody wants me why I can't comprehend. I don't like
the name Bear that I can't pretend.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
If you're ready for laughter, for passion, for fun. Then
for her journey, it's just begun.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
I'm ready for laughter, but a different type of fun.
If they ever did a gay Bachelor, there'd be many
things growing up. Everyone's boom, Oh god, what even is
this podcast today? So yeah, Jeanette with her poem was
the first front runner, but then along came another woman
also called Jeanette, but the Colina Jans, so they've got

(06:34):
rid of the at and then she is now being
tipped as the over potential winner after sharing this sweet
moment with Big Bear.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
I always thought I was going to be a mom
and wife, and that didn't happen. The mom some things
didn't happen. My ex couldn't have kids, so by the
time we divorced, I was forty and so that kind
of option. I went through ideas four or five times,

(07:04):
and that didn't work. And then the doctor said, well,
why don't you try some donus for them, and my
extent no to that. And it took me a long,
long long time to get over that and realize that
that I wasn't going to be that mother. Yeah, there's

(07:28):
the preis life's challenges.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Yeah, I know, I've had many as well.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Yeah, so you'd be right in thinking, well, surely jan
Ouginat is going to win this whole thing. Well no,
And this is where things get messy, And this is
where all these rumors are now circulating and people are
hinting at drama and everyone is essentially convinced that Big
Bear picks nobody at the end of the season and
he's now sleeping with show host some month for our

(08:00):
metage instead. And let me tell you, Big Bear and
Sammy Amitadge are doing nothing to squash this rumor. For example,
here's Big Bear on the red carpet of the Logis
in August, which, you know, a couple of months ago.
And bear in mind, this was like two weeks after
filming for this season wrapped, so you know, he should
still be in the honeymoon phase, all loved up with

(08:21):
whoever he chose at the end of the show and
then now a couple. But instead here he is on
the red carpet talking about checking out all the hot
women on the red carpet.

Speaker 6 (08:30):
Ras, you're on your golden batchlub, I mean, you're on
the Loggi's red carpet.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
So I'm taking it all in there's so many beautiful.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
Ladies eyeing people here on the carpet too, so options
still open.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
I know, well, I can't say much on that, but
we'll see how it goes.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
See this room's going round there. Maybe you know you
prefer a young girl.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
That's no, that's rumors. Yes, that's rumors.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
And you know who happened to be a few feet
away from Big Bear on that red carpet when he
said that some man for Amitage. Anyway, So fast forward
to this week at the show's premiere. So we're now
a few months since filming wrapped, and here's Big Bear
once again, this time talking to so Sydney, and he's
basically just making it seem like yo, he picks nobody
at the end of this season. We're so close to

(09:16):
it coming out, which means we're close to it finishing,
which means we can go public eventually.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Are you excited to finally go public with your new missus?

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Oh that's assuming that I've chosen someone. Ooh true, you're
gonna have to watch and find out.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
We're not getting anything out of here.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
All I can tell you is I made the right decision.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
So yeah, this week, we've got Big Bear saying shit
like that in interviews, which isn't very hopeful for those
wanting a happy ending. And then at the same time,
we've got some man for Amitage, who just a note
split from her husband in December last year, doing her
own press tour to promote the show, and she's over
there talking to Jess Row about her finding love again

(09:57):
and hinting happiness and all that. I think you'll find love.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
We'res our fun love again. I mean, I'm keeping my
options open. I am fine. I don't worry about me.
I'm having fun as always. But yes, I mean I will.
I will find love again for sure. I don't know when.
When the time is right, he will arrive and I'll

(10:27):
be very good at choosing this time.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
It's how to.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Find the right person. And then if that wasn't proof
enough that Sami Amateur just stolen Big Bear from my
jan Aganet and all the over lovely old ladies, this
basically sums that were all the cast members and I'll
saying in their own interviews this week.

Speaker 6 (10:46):
Australia's latest reality show, The Golden Bachelor, has been praised
by contestants for its focus on women supporting women one
of the show's contestants, Dressage team manager Lauren, told Yahoo
Lifestyle about how different the reality show can be with
mature aged participants. The sixty year old explained, I love
living with the girls so much so that they come
and visit and stay with me all the time. Now,

(11:08):
so I'm at their place or they're at my place,
and we speak daily. The girls are flying down for Christmas,
I fly up to them.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
We are close.

Speaker 6 (11:15):
We are seriously a family. So it's a beautiful love
story between the girls.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
They're all basically out there being like this was the
season of women supporting women and women coming together and
women now finding friendships on the show. And like, you know,
if one of these ladies found love with Big Bear,
I don't think she'd be off around Whoever that lady
was house for Christmas with the rest of the cast,
you know what I mean, because it seems like Big

(11:40):
Bear is going to be spending Christmas with semi amtids. Anyway,
That's all I got for you today. Yeah, am I
enjoying The Golden Bachelor. I'm sli bit tbcal and now
I kind of and I'm going to be honest here.
When I found out this show has happened, and it
was going to be old people. I wanted like super
old people, Like it's hard to explain, Like these people

(12:02):
are obviously old, yeah, like somewhere above sixty, but they're
also glamorous and like flawless, and this is this offensive
to say, like still with it, Like you know when
you see like every family's got like that old relative
who's just like says what they think because they don't
give a fuck anymore, and they're just loose and out

(12:23):
there and a bit crazy. Like I was kind of
hoping we'd have a mixture of that, Like I don't
know if anyone's ever been to like a retirement home
and you've just got this craziest mix of eccentric characters
from all walks of life. I was hoping this year's
Golden Bachelor mansion would essentially be that, like a retirement
home and maybe there's pots of vagar in the corner,

(12:45):
and like it's it's randy and it's crazy. But this
kind of just feels like the normal Bachelor, just the
people happen to be a little bit older, but like
storylines feel the same, the format feels the same. The
challenge the dates. Everything feels the same except the fact
that the women actually do seeing a lot more genuine

(13:06):
and authentic and like they do like care for each other,
like actually, no, I've got another grab, I'm gonna play.
Listen to this cute moment.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
We realize that you guys are going to be having
extra bonding time with Yeah, so we thought permission to push,
meaning we're gonna give each other like wingmen wingmen support.

Speaker 7 (13:23):
Permission to push is a fantastic concept. It means women
that haven't spent time with the bear like myself, will
get priority.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
It's your turn tonight.

Speaker 7 (13:34):
It's about women supporting women. It's grown up, mature, professional,
intellectual wow, women thinking differently anyway.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Yes, so I've run out of things to say. Now
over then, Yeah, if you watching Gordon Bachelor, let me
know what you think. Do you think he is with
some of amateurs? You reckon it's gonna be jan or
Janette or who you acting is gonna win. And yeah,
I will catch you very soon because I think in
my next podcast I'll be able to tell you what
I've been up to for the last month or two.
And when you can watch what I've been up to

(14:05):
for the last month or two, so yeah,

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
