(00:00):
Episode 3 of Mental Wealth, How to Become a More Prosperous Version of Yourself.
How to Cultivate that Idea, that Attitude, and those Abilities.
So, your host, Casey Dubrovik, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner,
(00:20):
Board Certified, and the Owner and Operator of Revitalize, Optimize,
and Harmonize Clinic. Nick.
Very excited to be here with you today and talk about how we can help you help yourself.
So today I wanted to tackle the subject of when to jump, how to jump, and where to jump.
(00:46):
So those are all up to you.
And the guidance that I can give you on when to jump is sooner than them later.
So you're likely going to run into some bumps on the road, and you're likely
to have some rough waters to navigate,
(01:07):
and you're very much capable of doing those things.
And you're capable at any point in your life to be able to navigate the most
difficult hurdle, the most insurmountable obstacle, the most challenging,
(01:28):
scariest,
quote-unquote unattainable thing ever.
And the sooner you get after it, the sooner you'll likely accomplish those things.
And so that's the when. The when is now. The when is right now,
this moment. Make that decision.
(01:49):
I like to tell people the goals aren't as important to attain as becoming the
type of person that can attain those goals.
You make a goal to run a marathon and you run the marathon and then you go right
back to eating copious amounts of Twinkies and drinking empty calories and laying on the couch,
(02:11):
that's probably not what you had hoped for when you said you were going to run a marathon.
And so you want to be the type of person that is physically fit and that can
attain a big fitness goal like running 26.2 miles.
Funny note, when I used to see those mile stickers like 26.2 or,
(02:36):
you know, the higher ones in Flagstaff, Arizona, we've got a lot of ultra runners
who will run like 100 milers.
And I go, that's a weird radio station. Why can't I tune into that?
So there's so many niches and so many things of being a human these days that
you just can't keep up with everything.
(02:57):
Very interesting stuff, though. And so the when is now, right now,
you've got this, you can do it. And just make that jump.
And the where, like, this is a is a tough one, because there's some,
something you're passionate about,
and it may be far away from what you currently see yourself as good at.
(03:22):
And if you can figure out a way to combine those things where you can make your
passion what you're good at, that's the niche you want to go to.
That's where you should be going. you want to be something that you're fired up on getting.
If you think, yeah, that's something I could do, but I'm not too fired up on.
(03:47):
And then you see this other option of might be a little bit harder to get to,
but I'm really driven to make that work.
I say go for that option. 100%. Go for that one that you're fired up on and you're excited about.
And you'll have the energy and drive to sustain that longer and you'll take
it farther and you'll probably do a better job with it than the other thing
(04:09):
that you could probably do, you know, pretty easily.
And so think about that and try to choose the subject matter that you're more passionate about.
We're in a global economy now. And so those niche markets are much more the move.
(04:30):
If you go too broad, then you're likely to hit less people just because people
aren't called to that as much as,
you know, like single moms who just you want single moms, then,
you know, there might be something you can do there because it's
a little more narrow than just human beings and then you
(04:53):
do single moms who want to
learn martial arts and like cooking you know then
that's something that you might have more merit to it or you have the middle
schoolers who just middle schoolers and then you know you narrowed it down a
little bit there and then you look at middle schoolers who have.
(05:18):
Social anxiety. And so that's going to be a much easier way of narrowing your
audience and focusing what you're working on.
So, you know, my forte is mental health and mental wealth.
And that's what I'm super passionate about is helping people help themselves.
And then I got into the ketamine treatments just because the evidence is so
(05:42):
robust about how much more helpful that is getting people to help themselves
and treat the problems causing their symptoms,
rather than most of the medications I was prescribing in traditional psychiatry,
which were simply treating the symptoms of underlying problems.
And again, as a psychiatric provider, myself and a growing number of psychiatric
(06:06):
providers realize that monoamine theory is basically debunked at this point.
And depression, depression, anxiety, hypervigilance, suicidality,
substance use disorder, those are your psyche's cries for help. Those are the symptoms.
And you don't necessarily want to turn those symptoms down because then you
(06:28):
aren't helping people recognize, hey, there's something that we aren't addressing here.
We need to help you address that safely, that concern that the the world is
an unsafe place or that deep-seated fear that there's no one accepting you.
And so helping people to recognize that there's something that they can overcome
(06:54):
rather than, oh, there's this anxiety.
Let's just turn the volume knob down on the anxiety because I just exist in
this anxious state. It's like, okay, wait, wait, wait. That anxiety is telling me something.
There's something about my environment that doesn't feel safe.
And how can I make my environment or my world or my psyche feel safe?
And so giving them space to do that, oh my gosh, so rewarding.
(07:17):
And so I'm passionate about expanding access to that every day.
And so that's where I'm going and trying to help people help themselves again
to be the best versions of themselves.
And I think that's such a wonderful gift to be able to give to help people.
And so in anything you
(07:37):
can do to be of service to help more
people that's going to help a
lot too so again you should be passionate about it it
should be something that you're knowledgeable about and now's the time seize
the opportunity if you can help people and feel like you're helping people then
you're going to be trending the right direction and you know how high should
(08:02):
you aim You know, that depends on a lot of factors.
I think a big thing is feeling safe and feeling secure.
Not everyone has the opportunity to stop what they're doing as far as paying
their bills and feeling safe to make that jump,
to be able to let go of that safety and security of having that consistent paycheck
(08:30):
and working for this person.
That our agency or whatever that is paying you quite well to do what you're doing.
Just remember, whenever you're working for someone else, you're making them,
you're making that agency rich and you're a passive income stream for them.
And so be aware of that.
(08:53):
Be thankful for the opportunities that you have gotten and be appreciative and
know that But just being here right now, just listening to this,
you're a capable individual who has a great capacity inside themselves to make things better.
And so I'm kind of on an entrepreneurial tangent just because I think that that's
(09:19):
such a wonderful avenue to travel.
And if you can harness your powers for good, I tell people what's good for you
is going good for the universe.
And so if you're in a good headspace, or you're making things better,
and you're trending the right direction, then awesome.
(09:39):
You are that change that you want to see in the universe.
And that's the move, 100%. Like, that's the way to go.
And so in regards to how to do it, you know, there's a lot of ways to do it.
But I think the how high and how to do it.
So, you know, it's not everyone is going to quit their day job and become a
(10:05):
successful digital creator or,
you know, YouTube content channel person or.
Podcaster, you know, most people's podcasts, I don't think ever really make much money.
It's more of a drive people to your other stuff and you're able to be seen as that expert.
(10:27):
So your subject matter makes sense
you you get some maybe some channel
boosts with your sponsors
and you know that sort of thing in general
i think certain avenues of
media content creation are more
(10:49):
to just drive your other revenue streams up you
know ideally as a business owner you know
my resources for myself are best
suited towards working on the
business rather than working in the business right and so
i think that's always something that bears reiterating there's
(11:10):
a really good book i like called the e-myth e the
letter e like elephant myth and it's
the entrepreneurial myth and so
a big tenant preface of that
book and it's much along the same vein as
like rich dad poor dad richest man in babylon all those are i think must reads
(11:31):
for the entrepreneurial human being and the ways to go about that are basically
you want to create revenue streams that involve.
Less work on your end.
And so if you design processes.
(11:52):
Drive more content and drive more consistency and, you know,
drive good outcomes, you're going to be able to scale that.
And so you want a replicable, you want it personable.
And so really, you know, I've noticed it a ton is when I'm passionate about
(12:17):
something and why I have energy, then that translates to things working out well.
When I'm negativistic or when I'm taking a step back, then things don't quite
move as quickly or as well.
And so I think that's true across the board for everything is you'll notice
(12:40):
energy in, energy out to a large extent.
And so basically, the how high
question question when you're making that jump is do what feels right.
If you are thinking, you know, I need to quit my job to make this successful. And I think I can do that.
(13:00):
And, you know, you really do think you can do that. And you think you have the
energy and the drive and you think you'll be successful.
I'd say, you know, go for it, do it. You know, it's good to have a business plan.
It's It's good to crunch the numbers. It's good to have a six-month cushion in the bank account.
It's good to never burn any bridges when it comes to business.
(13:23):
You don't want to leave your employer and then come crawling back to them in a few months and.
You need to, in general, trust yourself and trust in your capacity.
And when you do make that jump, commit to that. Commit to yourself.
Commit to success. Commit to feeling good and commit to really giving it that
(13:49):
full energy and devotion that that idea creation deserves.
And so, you know, for most people, it'll start off as like, okay,
like, I'm going to do this.
And I'm only going to do it on the weekends or the evenings.
And that's how I opened my practice, my wife and I, we started it together,
(14:10):
you know, we have the idea and followed through on the business creation and
the designing the space and putting the pieces together.
And then Then we would both be there evenings and weekends and kind of oscillate with our young kids.
And then things took off well enough that I was able to step away from my full-time job.
(14:31):
And, you know, I wouldn't say with blessings from my employer,
they were sad to see me go.
And I think that I left in good enough places that if things weren't to have
worked out as well as they did, I could have went back there.
And I think that's an important thing to try to do. You never want to feel like
in a business agreement is any sort of loss or feeling like they've gotten that end of the deal.
(15:00):
Ideally, you want to cultivate relationships and business arrangements that are win, win, win.
Or everyone feels like, hey, you know, that's a good enough deal that I feel
really good about that having occurred and going down the way it did.
And I feel like that's reasonable for everyone to feel like that when you cultivate
(15:21):
the right idea and the right way of approaching any sort of arrangement.
And so, again, you know, I think going into things with an idea of where you
want them to be and with a plan for growth and you're going to be doing better.
(15:42):
The other aspects of, you know, when to jump, how to jump, how high to jump, where to jump.
I think it's, it's really, you got to listen to your intuition in large part.
So things may develop, things may shift, give yourself space to evolve all the time.
If you really shoehorn yourself into something, it's harder to get out of that. And.
(16:10):
That being said, you don't want to overextend yourself.
If you get too much, too fast, too wide,
oftentimes it all comes back to you and you need to make sure that you have
the resources and the capacity for fall back for someone else or something else to support you.
(16:30):
And you have the resources, the finances, the ability, the energy capacity.
In regards to currencies, I really like the idea that there's three main types
of currencies that you have available at your disposal.
The first one is obviously monetary.
And so how much money you have.
(16:54):
People say, you know, money isn't necessarily good and money solves a lot of
problems that one may have.
The second type of currency is energy.
And so how much energy? So you may have noticed that I'm a little bit slower
(17:14):
now and that's because I'm a little tired.
I I probably should wrap this up and I'm working on it. So bear with me.
And the third type of currency is your time. Your time is so valuable.
There's only 24 hours in a day.
You know, I like that saying the days are long and the years are short.
(17:39):
And that's so accurate. You know, three kids.
I feel that 100%. It's like, oh, my gosh.
That was a long day. And it's like, oh my gosh, how are you this old already?
I love you so much. And it just feels good to, you know, feel that love and be able to express that.
And it just goes fast. So, you know, make sure you're spending time on doing
(18:03):
what you're passionate about and that you feel like you're giving yourself and
the universe and your kids and your family and the people closest to you, the best of yourself.
It's really important to me is to feel that I'm doing the best I can with what I have.
(18:23):
And so I really like touching other people's lives in a positive fashion,
hence growing RIOFA to be able to allow for more people to help themselves and
scale that in a responsible and patient-centered and holistic fashion and getting a really wonderful,
(18:44):
amazing team together of really like-minded individuals that feel similarly
about creating the best possible life for themselves and for the lives of people whose.
Lives we touch and their loved ones.
And so that's realistic.
That's true. And there's always going to be something that's better that comes
(19:10):
along as far as ideas and as far as evolution.
And so always give yourself space to evolve and to grow and open your mind so
that you can do that development work and you can work towards making yourself better.
Again, that mental wealth, creating a more prosperous, happy version of yourself
(19:35):
that, well, I like happy and I don't like happy.
And I think part of being quote unquote happy is being okay, being sad.
And so like having that dichotomy and
having the ability to understand
that being truly heartbroken
(19:56):
and sad and sorrowful is how you
can really be happy and be appreciative
and be loving we're all existing on this continuum and especially any sort of
emotion you know there's no such thing as like hot and cold water everything
(20:18):
exists on a continuum like where does it become hot where Where does it become cold?
There's, you know, that will depend on where you're at in your mindset and where
you're at in your day and,
you know, if you're in the Sahara Desert or if you're in the.
(20:39):
Antarctica. And so, you know, really just doing the best you can with what you
got and you're here and you're listening and proud of you and you should be proud of you.
So really good job trying to make that, those bigger shifts and trying to make that jump.
And you got this, whatever you're deciding to do, think about it,
(21:03):
make sure it's the best move for you and then do it.
Now's the time you got this.
And really good to have some accountability partners with that.
And so lots of ways to do that.
There's a book I was reading that 12 week year really helps kind of fast track
your results, just because it allows you to break up goals into more digestible actions.
(21:29):
And I think that's the move. And take care of yourself in the process,
Make sure you're feeding yourself quality nutrition that's sourced right so
you can have that good sustained energy.
Make sure you're getting physically active first thing in the day.
It really helps your energy and focus and drive and motivation,
(21:51):
all those wonderful things.
Try to have one sort of cultured food a day as far as like kefir or high CFU
yogurt or actual probiotics.
Those are really good for your microbiome, which in general are really good for your gut brain.
Make sure you're sustaining quality social connections with friends and family.
(22:16):
Try to gravitate towards those relationships that build you up and help you
become that better version of yourself.
We like to talk about relationships in regards to deposits and withdrawals.
If you're in some relationships, it's nothing but withdrawals.
Really try to mitigate those.
You really are a combination of the five people you spend the most time with.
(22:37):
So really try to cultivate those relationships that help you help yourself.
And keep being awesome. Make it a great day.
Again, become that more prosperous version of yourself, that mental wealth.
Thanks for being here. Make it a wonderful night. Make it a great day.
