Dr. Francis Collins is one of the most decorated scientists of all-time, and one of the smartest people around the globe. His accolades speak for themselves. From 1993 to 2003, he oversaw the Human Genome Project, an international research effort to map and understand all the genes of the human species, collectively known as the genome.
Completed in 2003, this project provided a blueprint for human biology, helping scientists understand how genes influence health and disease. Many view it one of the most important scientific achievements in all of history.
But Francis is not just a decorated scientist, he is also famously known for his journey from atheism to becoming a believer in God. In 2006, he released the international New York Times bestseller, The Language of God, in which he put forth all the different lines of evidence for God's existence.
So in this episode, we attempt to answer some very big questions. We examine if science and religion are really at odds, why it seems like some scientists are resistant to believing in God, and if science is the only way to know if something is factually true. We take a deeper look into the concept of truth itself, and the difference between objective truth and subjective truth.
