Kick is fueled by fabulous interns and girls in sport mentors.
So sometimes we have false starts and need a redo. Our first episode is on Podbean,
(01:18):
but didn't make it over to Spotify.
So here we go. But before we get started, I think Megan has some questions.
Yes, I do. I have a few warm-up questions. Are you ready? I'm ready.
All right. What is your favorite fruit? fruit oh that's so good berries in the
summer for sure i'm not partial but i'm gonna go with raspberry in the winter
(01:43):
pineapple oh my gosh i love that what is your favorite tv show,
Oh, TV show. Right now, currently watching Bridgetown, and I really like it.
Oh, I'm doing the same thing.
What is your dream vacation spot if you could go anywhere?
Oh, I'm pretty, I love traveling.
(02:07):
I'm definitely a mountain over a beach person.
So I would say anywhere in the mountains. pins.
Amazing. That would also be my answer. And finally, what is your favorite type
workout or movement of choice? Oh, I'm going to have to go with running.
(02:28):
Definitely a runner, definitely a long run over a track workout.
Awesome. Awesome. Well, thanks for getting me warmed up. I totally appreciate that.
So a little bit about me, just kind of a relaunch and a reintroduction.
My why for 38 years is to leave people in a better place than where I found them.
(02:51):
I have served the Chicago land fitness community for the past 38 years.
I was the manager of the Chicago sweatshop, one of Chicago's first aerobic studios,
leg warmers and all. You have to trust me, it was a riot.
My love for group exercise grew and inspired me to open up my own gym,
Second Wind, which is in the Goose Island Corridor. So we were right above Goose
(03:14):
Island Brewery. It was super cool.
I was definitely a little ahead of
my time and definitely a better fitness instructor than a business person.
38 years later, I'm certified in personal training, yoga, nutrition,
and digital wellness. I'm a certified wellness and running coach.
I coach high school girls cross country and work with other female athletes
(03:37):
and coaches to integrate elements of humanistic coaching to support the whole athlete.
The interplay between mental strategies and physical abilities allows girl in
sport to achieve well-being and longevity in sport.
My personal story and experiences surrounding body image, growing up in Title
(03:58):
IX's infancy, experiencing discrimination in sport, along with my education and work experience,
puts me in a unique position to listen and work with athletes and clients.
I'm definitely a learner and not a knower.
A little bit about me personally. I love high school and college athletics.
(04:20):
I'm more at home in the mountains, as you just learned, than on a beach.
I love protecting this big, beautiful planet. It's a passion of mine.
I'm a better cook than gardener, but do both.
I prefer winter to summer, but I also love fall and spring.
Pizza, curry, and homemade baked goods are my favorite foods.
(04:41):
I think a beautiful hot latte is the best way to start the day.
I love music and I find joy talking to my husband, adult children, and friends.
I'm more comfortable with deep conversations over small talk.
And I believe humility and honesty are the cornerstones of every healthy relationship.
(05:01):
I believe girls have their best social, emotional, and physical well-being given
