Il mito del furto di Mjolnir, il martello di Thor, è una delle storie più famose della mitologia norrena. Tutto inizia quando Thrym, il re dei giganti del ghiaccio, riesce a rubare Mjolnir e lo nasconde. Thor si rende conto della scomparsa del suo prezioso martello e va su tutte le furie.
La dea Freyja presta un magico mantello di piume a Loki, il dio degli inganni, affinché possa volare fino a Jotunheim, la terra dei giganti, e scoprire chi ha rubato Mjolnir. Loki scopre che Thrym è il responsabile del furto e il gigante confessa che restituirà il martello solo se Freyja accetterà di sposarlo.
Thor e Loki tornano ad Asgard per informare gli altri dèi della richiesta di Thrym. Freyja rifiuta categoricamente di sposare Thrym, e così Thor e gli altri dèi devono trovare un modo per recuperare il martello senza soddisfare le condizioni del re dei giganti.
