A podcast about life, family & ministry with Steve, Derek & Eric. Produced by Chris. Some things are best told in story form. And we believe there is a story to tell. Hard lessons, joyous victories, or humble beginnings. The stories point to the One who wrote them. preacherinthehat.com
Gym routines, fear, anxiety. They don't exactly tie together, but let's talk about it all! Nobody wants to talk about fear and anxiety. Human nature is to avoid them at all cost. It can prey on us at every level. God offers us freedom, but it can still be difficult to choose the peace He gives us. Fortunately, in His endless mercy, He offers this peace day after day, never leaving our side.
In this episode, you get to learn a little more about us! All the way from the beginning when Steve found out he was going to be a father to twin boys.
Our Preacher in the Hat team is thrilled to welcome Valorie Gochnauer to the podcast! With her help (and songwriting skills!) we talk about being content in the moments God has placed us.

Fast. Faster. Fastest. Everything in our world is about how quickly things can get done. How quickly we can meet deadlines at work. How quickly that Amazon delivery can get here. It's easy for that "need for speed" to creep into our lives and influence our life patterns. How do we slow down the hurry so we can breathe for a second and hear His voice? Let's take our time and talk about it!
Friend of the show, Ron Burt, joins us for one more episode of guest testimonials from our Streetlights series. The best part? You don’t need to have listened to any prior episodes to understand or enjoy hearing his great story.
Let's welcome in another guest, Tina Sumpter! Tina joins us to talk about healthy attachment, not just to others, but our Savior. Listen to a beautiful story of her real life example of healthy attachment through the adoption of her daughter.
Let's talk about the love of our Savior. In all of its complexity. Or simplicity? Maybe it's far easier to understand than we like to make it. God wants us to understand it in the way a child does. Just that He's always there, and always will be. Always.
Where is God? We got the answer from a 4 year old. His answer was complete Biblical truth. But, he can't even read yet. How could he know? Fortunately for us, God didn't make this answer super complex. It can be answered simply in a single word from a child. Everywhere.
"Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, i...
Please Welcome to the 4th Chair our friend, Greg Ledet! It was such an honor for Greg to come and join us in studio, all the way from Chipley, Florida. Greg has an incredible story of what it is like to come home when God turns on the Street Lights (Episode 9 reference). Greg’s story is full of things like redemption, grace, healing and faith. Make sure you catch this one!
Everybody loves a good homecoming story. So, lets take a few minutes to reflect on our own. When God calls us back to His arms, there is peace, redemption, mercy, wisdom, grace and so much more. If home is where the heart is, let home be where He is!
The team talks about failure. Is there a failure in your life that you thought meant the end of everything? The team has had those, too. But God views "failure" differently than we do. Tune in and find out why failure is an option.
The team talks about the importance of discipline. It doesn't necessarily make sense that more free time means it's harder to stay disciplined, but we examine why it can sometimes be too much of a good thing. Balance is important in discipline.
Did you ever play baseball? If so, did you ever hit a homerun? Well, Steve did. And he can't wait to tell you about it. But more than that, he can't wait to tell you about how God meets us with His strength to give us the strength to do things we'd otherwise consider improbable. Nobody does impossible like He does.
Have you ever felt like you have trouble separating parts of your life in a healthy? Worse yet, have you ever not realized it at all? The roles we play in different parts of our life can often intersect. How to manage that intersection is essential. Let's talk about how!
In this episode, the team talks about difficulties in leadership, parenting, or any position of authority where THEY JUST WON'T LISTEN! It can feel defeating. But, we must resolve to show the same grace the Father has shown us.
In this episode, the team talks about how to deal with disappointment. Have you ever chased someone or something that just doesn’t want to be caught? It can be demoralizing. The team is grateful that we know The Good Shepherd! We let ourselves down, and so do other people. He never does.
