Cada Miércoles de Ceniza las dolorosas de Sevilla cambian su impronta radicalmente vistiéndose a la hebrea.
Se manifiesta con ello el inicio de un tiempo nuevo, que tiene su particular lenguaje, ritmo y espacio. Una víspera de cuarenta días que no se atenúa en segundo plano, sino que se reviste como protagonista con sus propios significados, señales y vivencias, y que tiene su propia literatura y sus propios ritos. Es un espacio distinto a la eclosión de la propia Semana Santa, y en el que el cofrade se transforma e incluso añora la culminación de esos cuarenta días, como una muerte en vida que se va diluyendo.
