Over the last few decades, the amount of time that people spend sleeping has decreased, as has self reported quality of sleep. Coincidentally, at the same time, the average BMI has increased. We are seeing a trend of higher body weights and higher levels of obesity.

A number of different studies have suggested that lower levels of sleep and poorer sleep quality may lead to metabolic disorders, weight gain and an increased risk of obesity and other chronic health conditions. The existing research points to a positive correlation between good sleep and healthy body weight.

Today we explore why and how sleep quality and quantity impacts weight and what you can do about it.
