(00:00):
Did you know? The Bible says, if anyone belongsto Christ, they have become a new person. The
old life is gone, a new life has begun. Butif that's true, why don't we feel new? Why
do so many Christians still feel stuck in thesame patterns, the same struggles? Is your
old life really gone? Has new life begun? Orare you just trying harder to be good? In fact,
(00:25):
the verse right before that says, so from nowon, we regard no one from a worldly point of
view. Though we once regarded Christ in thisway, we do so no longer. That's a clue. There
is such a thing as a worldly point of view, one we used to live by, but we shouldn't anymore.
We used to think and act from the world's perspective, but now we're called to something new, something
(00:50):
better. When we become a Christian, we shouldstart changing how we think and how we act.
We should start living by God's ways now. Yet, most Christians go to church weekly and still
live a very worldly life, by the world's standards, ideas, and values. We still trust in the world's
ways more than we trust in God. We think weare doing the best we can, not even realizing
(01:15):
how much of the world is really embedded inus. How confusing to God to look down and
see his church, but not recognize them, because they look like, talk like, and act like the
world still. Where is our information comingfrom? What standards and ideas are we living
by? Where do we learn about marriage, relationships, parenting, identity, purpose, from TV, social
(01:40):
media, school, from Hallmark movies, or ourfriends and families? Information is everywhere
and we are inundated by it. Whether we realizeit or not, most of what we know about life
probably came from television, marketing, andsocial agendas. not from God. We live in a
society that is sculpted and molded throughthese things, and somehow we just accept that
(02:06):
it is okay for Christians as well. There's nottoo many godly standards on TV, yet our lives
resemble TV more than they do God's word. Doesthis mean throw your TV out? Well, maybe for
some, but for most, no. It just means enjoyentertainment for what it is. But don't live
your life according to it. Don't learn fromit. We say we are Christian, but are we living
(02:31):
as new creations? Or are we still trusting inour old ways and patterns that are ingrained
in us? Do we ever truly shake off the old andbecome new? Or do we just try harder now to
be good? No wonder we struggle so much in whywe are so confused. We are so mixed up inside.
Our ideas on marriage, raising children, relationships, well, just about everything, still comes
(02:57):
from the world. Don't believe me? Just go toa Christian marriage seminar and listen. Most
likely, you'll only hear worldly perspectiveand concepts about marriage, sprinkled with
just a bit of Christian talk and a few scriptures, as if God will now put a stamp of approval
on it. Our marriages fail because they arerooted in the principles of the world, not
(03:20):
in the Word or heart of God. It's hard to findtrue biblical marriages that reflect God's
ways. Watch TV sitcoms for a week, then watchall the couples in your church. You won't see
much difference. And let's be honest, ladies. Most of you dream of a marriage that is a combination
of Hallmark, Jane Austen, and Fifty Shades ofGrey. Who sits around dreaming of a biblical
(03:44):
marriage? I mean, they don't even exist anymore, right? That's Old Testament. How many little
girls are out there planning their dream biblicalwedding? How many are thinking of the day they
can become a Proverbs 31 woman? I don't thinkthere's too many Proverbs 31 dream boards out
there. I think Disney Princess trumps Proverbs31 mostly. Okay, this is silly, but it still
(04:09):
makes a point. And it's not just marriage. That example basically applies to almost every
area of our life. Just spruce it up with someChristian phrases and slap some scripture
on it and we're good to go. We are just soworldly. And no, I don't mean the churches
out at the bar every Saturday night, hoopingand hollering and living it up. I mean, we
(04:31):
trust in so many worldly ideas and concepts.Honestly, most churches are firmly based on
them. They have subtly infiltrated us. We startliving this worldly form of Christianity,
which produces confused, broken, strugglingpeople that look nothing like God. They just
act and sound religious. They just have a formof godliness with no real power, no real freedom.
(04:56):
In fact, most Christians don't even recognizeworldliness anymore. The church has blended
so well with the world, it just seems normal. The problem is, we didn't become new. We just
cleaned ourselves up and tried harder. We tradeda worldly mindset for a religious one, but
never fully took on God's perspective. We becomeso comfortable with the world's ways that God's
(05:21):
ways actually seem strange for and or even harshto us. That's because we're not seeing things
from his point of view. Why do you think somany churches actually reject revival? It's
because they are so unfamiliar with God's ways, they don't even recognize him when he shows
up. We call good evil an evil good. We thinkworldliness means don't drink, cuss, sleep
(05:47):
around, lie or cheat on your taxes, like allthose stinkin' worldly heathens up. We think
it makes us spiritually superior to the worldbecause we try to live cleaner, more morally
correct lives. But acting religious while stillthinking like the world doesn't make us new.
God's like, sorry, you guys look the same tome. Now we start to see why our lives feel
(06:11):
stuck, why our prayers aren't answered, ourkids are struggling and our marriages are falling
apart, why we are so confused all the time.We have the wrong information. We are still
operating off of the old system. We still havea worldly perspective on life while trying
to live as a new creation. It just won't work. It's not meant to work. It's not God's ways.
(06:33):
The Bible says His ways are higher than ourways. His ways are better than our ways. But
yet we settle for less. We've chosen whichparts of the old ways seem acceptable and which
ones aren't. And we live accordingly. God wantsus to be new, but we have settled for a comfortable
mix. And no, this doesn't mean you just sellall worldly possessions and go live in a cave
(06:58):
either. Don't be foolish. That's not what we'retalking about. There's always that one guy.
Anyways, this means you no longer put your faithand trust in the things of this world, but
in God. Live life from a new perspective, His. If we say we are Christians, then we should
be living by God's ways. I mean, Duh, that makesso much more sense, right? So what's wrong
(07:22):
with you? Well, most likely, you're just tooworldly. You live life from a worldly point
of view most of the time, hanging on to theold and not fully becoming new. New creations
can't live according to the old standards. Itwon't work. Your life will start to show signs.
We need to reflect God's ways in all that wedo, not just clean up some areas and call it
(07:46):
good. It's hard to truly become a new creation. You're probably not fitting comfortably anymore
in most churches. But that's okay. Find onewhere you do. One that doesn't live this worldly
Christianity so prevalent today. Surround yourselfwith the right voices and influences and start
to limit everything else. You are not of thiskingdom. You belong to another. But yet, we
(08:10):
try to hang on to our old selves and our oldways. We need to put those behind us. Put
away childish things, so to speak, and growup in God's ways. Let go of your old life,
let it truly pass away, and let all thingsbecome new. Until you allow real transformation
in your life, your Christianity is stuck. You'llmake little progress with God until you do.
(08:34):
He doesn't want you to live your life accordingto this world. He wants you to live it according
to Him.
