(00:00):
Did you know, wanting to do great things forGod isn't a bad thing? In fact, if we never
do anything great for God, how will others seehow great God is? First of all, doing great
things for God will show everyone around usthat we think God is worth the effort, but
also that if we are swept along with God, doingamazing things with Him and through Him, then
(00:23):
everyone can see how great He is and He willbe glorified, He will be honored, and He will
be lifted up. God is great, amazing, and wonderful. Why wouldn't the things we accomplish with
him also be great, amazing, and wonderful? Canyou imagine serving a great God but only accomplishing
mediocre things that doesn't even make sense? If we only ever produce mediocre, or our life
(00:49):
is just so-so, broken down like everyone else,God doesn't seem very attractive. Here we have
the full resources of the God of the universeat our disposal. and we go and live a dull,
insignificant life. People could say, well, your God isn't that great. Look at your life.
We should be a reflection of his great magnitude, not our lack and misconceptions. In our religious
(01:14):
society, we are so afraid of doing great orbeing great because we have so much false humility.
Like being great is a bad thing. We must behumble, lowly, broken, and poor. Then people
will see how great God is. First of all, I don'tknow where we get the idea that poor is attractive.
(01:35):
How many people do you know that walk aroundall day saying, gee, I really wish I could
be poorer today. That would really make me morespiritual. Well, you're probably right, because
you would start praying a lot more ferventlybecause you didn't wanna be poor anymore. Our
idea of humility is usually so off or skewed.Humility doesn't mean don't be great. It means...
(01:59):
Go and be as great as you possibly can, butrealize that it is because of God that you
are great, and without Him, you would be nothing.A great biblical example would be David. He
was just a shepherd boy, but yet he was ableto slay Goliath, the giant that had taunted
Israel and God for 40 days. But how? Well, itwas quite simple. He rose up against this giant
(02:25):
for God. Who is this uncircumcised Philistinethat he should defy the armies of the living
God? He did it because of God. All those gatheredhere will know that it is not by sword or spear
that the Lord saves. For the battle is the Lord's,and He will give all of you into our hands.
(02:46):
And He did it with God. Saul said to David,Go, the Lord be with you, for you, because
of you, and with you. It's just that simple. Each one is a powerful tool for turning ordinary
into great. When you set out to accomplish something,do it with these three things in mind and heart.
(03:08):
Tell God, whatever I do today, I do for you.I do it because of you. And I do it with you.
And watch as your efforts are transformed fromordinary to great. No matter what we do, we
should do it with the mindset that this is forGod. It doesn't matter what you are doing.
Everything in our lives as Christians shouldbe for one purpose. To make God look good.
(03:33):
We should be living to give the best we canto Him. Not give Him a half-hearted, mediocre
effort. We aren't called to just get by in God.As Christians, we have so much great in us
because we have God. We should be emptying ourselvesof everything that's unnecessary just to make
more room for more of His greatness. We needto be a great people, full of great stuff,
(03:58):
that do great things, that reflect a great God.Well, let's be honest, we want to be great,
but we want to be great so everyone will lookat us and think how great we are, so we can
be validated, so we can have the big chair onstage and everyone will marvel at us, so we
can have the best seat in the house, the bestparking space, so we can make the most money
(04:21):
and have the coolest stuff to flaunt our greatness. This isn't true greatness. This is just pride.
God hasn't called us to be super prideful. IfHe had, we would be excelling at it for sure.
He has, however, called us to be great. Truegreatness is when we realize alone we really
aren't that special. I know, your teacher saidthat everyone was special. Sorry. By tamping
(04:47):
into who God is and stepping out in His powerwith God, for Him, not us, and because of Him,
because of His ability, not ours, then we canachieve great things. God is the factor in
our lives that makes everything great. The skyis the limit. Well, actually, there is no limit
to the great things you can accomplish whenyou do it with the right heart. We think people
(05:11):
are great and spiritual when they sell everything, dedicate their lives to helping poor people
or something. But those things, as admirableas they may be, they don't make you great.
Sure, Jesus said this once to someone, but Healso added one more thing, follow me. The key
wasn't necessarily selling stuff and givingstuff away. The key to greatness was disconnect
(05:34):
from your former life and then follow me. Whenwe allow God's will to override ours and we
align our hearts with His, we start to livea life that is for Him, because of Him, and
with Him. There are so many people in the Biblethat we would consider to be great people,
people that accomplished great and amazing things. But how? It was because they didn't live for
(05:58):
themselves, but for God and those around them. This doesn't mean they sold all they had and
gave it all to the poor. Doing that doesn'tmake you great, it just makes you poor. And
no, don't bring up the rich young ruler, thereare lots of poor people who still love money
and are full of pride. The people in the Biblewere great. and accomplished great things because
(06:22):
they gave up their wills and lived for someoneother than themselves. True humility doesn't
mean you're a poor broken down wretch that livesin a shack and wears a robe and chants. True
humility is when you realize your position andyou're okay with it. It's when you aren't constantly
trying to lift yourself up and prove your worth. In fact, you aren't even focused on yourself.
(06:45):
You genuinely want to build up and lift up Godand those around you. You become more focused
on what God needs than what you do. We get itall backwards. We want to live for ourselves
and then expect God to bless us. We want tohold on to our selfish lives and chase everything
but God and expect God to be okay with it. Itdoesn't quite work like that. The focus isn't
(07:08):
getting stuff. It's here is this amazing GodI am completely captivated by. And I can't
get close enough to. I want you God, I wannabe as close as I possibly can be to you. I
wanna tell everyone how amazing you are. Andthen as a bonus, God will lift you up. He will
bless you. He will make your efforts great andgive you success because your life is his.
(07:32):
By blessing you, he's really blessing himself. He knows it'll come back to him. The more great
I can do, the more great I can accomplish, thegreater honor God receives. When you live for
God, God is able to back up what you do. Hewill lift you up. We should have the mindset
that everything we do, we do for God. We accomplishthese things because God has made them possible.
(07:55):
And we get to do it with Him. What an amazingway to live. What a great adventure to wake
up every day and watch the amazing things Godwill do. To live in anticipation of good, instead
of living in worry, and fear, and anxiety. Tolive knowing we have God backing us up, that
we can truly ask anything and God will hearus. God wants to accomplish amazing things.
(08:20):
He wants to do great things, and He wants todo it through us and with us. Set your life
apart for God. Set your marriage, your hopes, your dreams, your finances, family. Set everything
apart for God. Then realize everything you have, everything that is even possible for you today,
is all because of God. Then step out in greatfaith and confidence that God is with you.
(08:45):
Bottom line, because of God, we are capableof accomplishing great things. And we should
strive to be great. Jesus never said not tobe great. Instead, He gives us the keys necessary
to achieve greatness. Stop being afraid of beinggreat. Step out today. and start accomplishing
amazing things for God, with God, and becauseof God. And show the world just how awesome
(09:11):
God truly is.
