(00:00):
Did you know, when God saved Israel and ledthem into the wilderness, it was an amazing
thing. When God parted the Red Sea, it was magnificent. But then life continued, and the next days
that followed weren't as easy. Israel was notout of the woods yet. The journey was only
just starting. And when things didn't go asplanned, Israel had an immature response. God,
(00:25):
yesterday you saved us. But today you left us.We will surely perish. God certainly didn't
want Israel to perish. He just wanted them tobe able to go through stuff with him, without
falling apart at the next thing that went wrong. He wanted to develop maturity in them. I mean,
it's the wilderness after all. They call itthat for a reason. It's wild, barren, rough,
(00:49):
difficult, dry. There will be trouble, but there'sno reason to panic. But sometimes at the slightest
sign of trouble, we fall apart. God doesn'twant to save you from every little bad thing
constantly. He wants to develop maturity inyou through it. He wants to develop a relationship
with Him, a trust in who He is. Not run aroundanxiously all the time. Oh God help, fix this,
(01:16):
do this, do that, make it better. All is lost.Even though it might be difficult, you're still
going somewhere, and you're going there withGod. And not only is God with us through it,
But He has given us everything we need for wherewe are right now. Just because we aren't flowing
in milk and honey like we thought, doesn't meanwe aren't exactly where we're supposed to be
(01:39):
and that God isn't listening. We aren't lackingat all. It may be hard and difficult, but with
God, we are going to get through this if wedon't get off track and fall into immature
thinking. Israel had all they needed. Food, water. Even their clothes and shoes never wore
out. Even though they weren't in the promisedland yet, they should have realized God was
(02:04):
providing everything they needed for where theywere at that moment. If they just would have
looked harder, they would have seen that therewas so much evidence of God around them. They
should have been thankful to be in a place whereGod was so evident, but yet they became distracted
by what they didn't have. Also, Israel justreally wasn't interested in knowing this God
(02:27):
who had delivered them. They were just interestedin getting to the promised land and being comfortable.
They didn't want to develop a maturity or arelationship. They just wanted to be saved
and to go on with their lives. Like Israel,we think since we aren't fully bathing in riches
and health or prosperity, that we are lost andGod has given up on us, left us alone to perish.
(02:52):
Or we never really take the time to actuallyknow God. We just want stuff to grow our way.
And when it doesn't, we assume the worst. Wepout, we act immature. When we get saved, we
have this impression that everything shouldbe perfect from here on out. We think that
if everything doesn't go 100% right all thetime, then something is wrong. God isn't with
(03:14):
us. We start to look at life unrealistically.Life should be better, absolutely. But we also
still live in this world. And in this world, there will be trouble. Not everything is going
to be perfect, but remaining steadfast throughthe imperfect is the key. Maybe certain things
don't work out like they should. Remember, itdoesn't always mean you aren't where you should
(03:38):
be or that God isn't with you. Stick with theplan, focus on the goal, and keep pressing
forward. Or can't we just skip the wilderness?Maybe. Maybe there is an easier route, but
the connection and depth of relationship withGod just isn't the same. God doesn't want to
just get us somewhere. He wants to have a relationshipwith us through it. God wants to develop in
(04:04):
you an unshakable faith and unshakable depthso you can stand in the midst of a storm and
not fall apart. Anyone can go down the easyroad, but few are willing to allow God to take
them someplace deeper and greater. And maybewe are in the wilderness a lot longer than
we should be. Maybe God is just waiting forus to finally grow up and mature so we can
(04:27):
continue. Maybe everything is on hold becausewe just refuse to grow up. In reality, God
is patient enough to keep waiting. I hear peopleall the time say things like, I don't understand.
I'm doing everything right and this still didn'tgo my way. They get depressed and discouraged
like God isn't answering or helping them. Likehe has forgot or doesn't care. I put so much
(04:52):
effort into such and such, but it didn't workout. Why am I still struggling when everyone
else is succeeding? God must not be with us.We so quickly throw away all of our efforts
and faith over the silliest things, and forgetthe hard stuff, we don't even make it that
far. We stop seeing that in the midst of allthis, we have a lot more than we realize. That
(05:14):
God is here providing everything we need, butyet we so quickly forget who He is. and who
we are becoming in Him. We need to grow up.Just because everything doesn't go perfect
doesn't mean it's time to abandon ship. Godwants your faith to be cemented in who He is,
not in hardship. But all too often, we are likeIsrael. At the first sign of trouble, we fall
(05:38):
back into our old ways. We start to complain, and we focus on everything we don't have instead
of what we do have. How can we press throughthe hard and difficult? when we can't even
press through the shallow and insignificant.Like Israel, we have amazing moments in God
where everything is possible. We believe, havegreat faith, we start to move forward, and
(06:02):
everything is going great. Then darkness startsto press back, and we crumble. All is lost.
We start to lose heart. We start to waver indoubt. God hasn't changed at all. Nothing is
different. We should be full of faith and ableto press forward through the difficulty ahead,
but instead we cave. Darkness is like, wellthat was easy. We act all rough and tough spiritually,
(06:27):
but really we're of little threat. Darknessdoesn't even know our name. We go to prayer
walks or prayer meetings, and we boldly commandthe principalities in darkness over cities
that back off. How cute we must look to them.Oh look, they're playing church again. When
we pray and speak, darkness probably just laughs.just send a little trouble their way, we'll
(06:50):
be rid of them. Instead, we need to become immovableobjects in the spirit that darkness avoids.
There's no point exerting our efforts againstthem. They won't budge. But we don't just magically
become that overnight. Well, maybe that oneperson you know, but for the most part, the
rest of us must learn and develop a deep strengthand faith that comes from an actual relationship
(07:14):
with God. God wants us to develop this attitudeof pressing forward with Him. He wants us to
mature to where we can stand against whateverand not back down, not be shaken, not give
up and run away defeated because our favoriteTV show got canceled. God wants us to develop
a maturity in Him that enables us to actuallybe able to overcome darkness and not flee from
(07:39):
it. If Israel would have allowed God to developthis maturity within them, When they eventually
got to the land with the giants, they wouldhave been ready and probably would have had
a different response. Going through the wildernesswith their God should have prepared them for
the day when they would stand before giants.Prepare them to have a proper response cemented
(08:02):
in faith in their God. Instead, they respondedin fear because they didn't allow the wilderness
to serve its purpose. Instead of allowing Godto prepare them along the way, They acted like
children. Are we there yet? I'm hungry. I'mthirsty. It's too hot. Are we there yet? We
(08:23):
must learn what it actually means to remain,to trust, what it means to press forward, to
continue even though it looks less than ideal,to look up and see and not stop seeing where
our help comes from, to not believe that ourhelp has been cut off. When darkness pushes
back, we don't cave. We rise up in faith inour God, in His power and in His might, and
(08:48):
push back. We don't throw in the towel so quickly. We can't start allowing things to throw us
off track. By letting trouble work you up, youare making yourself an easy target. Trouble
doesn't shake mature people up, they just keeppressing. Feel like you've been in the wilderness
too long? Well, maybe it's time to grow up.Stop letting every little thing discourage
(09:11):
you. Trust in God, listen to Him, talk to Him.Get to know this great God who has delivered
you and wants to set you completely free. Somaybe everything isn't perfect. Put that behind
you and keep walking. Most likely you have everythingyou need. Remain steadfast in what you believe.
(09:32):
Let God develop a maturity in you that allowsyou to become exactly who you need to become
for Him. Let the wilderness serve its purpose.Let it create in you a level of maturity and
a depth of relationship with God. So one dayyou can stand before giants and not back down,
but take the land that God is giving you.
