(00:00):
Did you know? In Matthew 14 is a great storyof how Jesus sent his disciples to the other
side of the lake. They had been rowing all nightlong against a powerful wind and they were
exhausted, basically going nowhere fast. Whatwas about to happen was intended to be an amazing
thing. His disciples had been straining allnight long, rowing against the storm. They
(00:24):
were most likely exhausted and possibly evenconcerned they wouldn't make it. Storms on
this lake were fierce, and they had been fightingagainst one all night. Early that morning,
Jesus saw them struggling, and decided to walkout to them. But his intention wasn't, oh hey,
they're struggling, I will walk out to themin the midst of this and make everything better.
(00:46):
He intended to walk out to them and pass by.He intended to walk right on by them. Like
on the mountaintop when God passed by Mosesand revealed his glory, Jesus was about to
do the same. He intended to pass by them inthe midst of this storm, in the midst of their
struggle, in all his glory. He intended to puton a demonstration of his power, of who he
(01:10):
was. His disciples had a front row seat to thedemonstration of the power and glory of God.
Well, we all know what happened. They were afraid. They thought he was a ghost. He got in the
boat, and made everything better, and the demonstrationstopped. But before that happened, Peter saw
(01:33):
him and said, Lord, if that is you, let me cometo you. And Peter walked on the water to Jesus.
Two people walked on the water that day, notjust Jesus. Peter was caught up in the demonstration
of who Jesus was. He was able to participatewith him in it, able to partake in the demonstration
(01:55):
and manifestation of his power and display ofhis glory. It wasn't Peter's natural ability
to walk on water. It's doubtful he was an all-statewater walker in college, but he was still being
carried along by this demonstration of who Jesusis. The demonstration of God's power was so
strong, so evident, so powerful, that even Petercould partake in it and even he could walk
(02:20):
on the water. Jesus wasn't just saying, I'mthe son of God. Believe in me." He was like,
I'll show you. I'll demonstrate my power rightbefore your eyes. I will put it on display
of my power and glory and pass by you. God stillwants to do this today. He wants to be on display
(02:40):
in our churches with all His glory and all Hispower present and evident, passing by us before
us to see. God wants us to participate withHim, be swept up and carried along with Him
in His glory. to not just witness it, but bea part of it. When we focus on God and let
the demonstration of who He is sweep us along, who knows what can happen? In that environment,
(03:06):
everything is possible. But be honest, whenyou go to church, are you in an atmosphere
where you think, hey, anything's possible here?Think about it, when was the last time you
witnessed the demonstration of God's power inchurch? Hmm, honestly, probably never for most
of us. We witness the demonstration of man'sintelligence, the demonstration of man's opinion.
(03:31):
We have a front row seat to man being on display. In most places, there is little or no demonstration
of God's power, only information given aboutGod. We talk about Him and how great He was
back then, but we don't allow Him to show offhow great He is now. The apostle Paul said,
(03:53):
We're not with wise and persuasive words, butwith a demonstration of the Spirit's power
so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power. In most churches, however,
we see heavy reliance on human wisdom and littleevidence of God's power. There are many wise
and persuasive Charismatic preachers, but littledemonstration. Churches everywhere have removed
(04:18):
God's power from their services. A demonstrationis just too spooky, too risky. Then they cover
up the lack of God's power with, he must notdo that today. That's Old Testament. God just
doesn't do those things anymore. Of course hestill does. Just not there, because they have
shut it down. If God were to show up in churcheson Sunday and pass by us in a demonstration
(04:43):
of his power, like the disciples, we would freak.Whoa, what's happening here? It's too spooky.
It must be bad. Make a stop. No wonder nothingever happens in your church. God's like, every
time I show up, you guys keep getting freakedout. Churches all over have determined that
the demonstration of God's power just doesn'tfit into their church program. They pick and
(05:08):
choose what of God will be acceptable and buildtheir denominations around that. Um, let's
see, we will take forgiveness of sins and allowthat. And yeah, that's it. Everything else
isn't for today. Every service can be abouthow you're a sinner and must get right, but
God forgives you and loves you, but that's asmuch as we will allow, and that's as far as
(05:29):
we will go. None of this walking on water nonsense. No demonstrations of power, no confrontational
messages, and definitely no talk of fasting. That's just demonic. Jesus didn't walk around
just forgiving sins. Everywhere he went, therewas a demonstration of his power. His very
presence was a confrontation to darkness, andlives were forever transformed. Why attend
(05:54):
a church that puts a limit on how much of Godyou have access to? I want it all, not just
access to His forgiveness, but His power, HisHoly Spirit, His anointing, His favor, and
most importantly, His presence. I'm just goingto say it, most churches do not have the presence
of God, or they allow very little of it. I wantall that God is. I need all that God has available.
(06:21):
How can we expect to limp along in this lifewith just a portion of God? Churches all over
are full of people struggling and barely limpingalong in life because access to God's power
has been removed from their church. God hasnot intended for us to just limp along in life.
He wants us to be empowered, infused with hisstrength, his ability. I don't want to just
(06:44):
hang on. and barely get by in my strength, weshould be like Peter, swept up in the demonstration
of God and carried along with it. I want towalk on the water above the storm, above the
waves, above the turmoil. We have been robbedof God's power in our lives. Someone long ago
decided our denomination is better off withoutGod's power. And now, if anyone in our church
(07:10):
ever starts to respond to God, we are quickto shut that down. We've gotten so used to
having church without God's power, we actuallybelieve God just doesn't do those things anymore.
We've been robbed, and we go along with it becauseit's all that we know. What have we created
in our churches? It certainly isn't a reflectionof who God is. Going to church without the
(07:34):
power of God is like going to a McDonald's thatdoesn't serve hamburgers, or going to a monster
truck rally and all that's there is electricgolf something important is missing. As a result,
we have become more familiar with darkness thanwith God's power. We acknowledge every other
power, especially the power of darkness. Wego on and on about spooky spiritual energy
(07:58):
and feeling it, but scoff when we hear aboutGod moving. We are fascinated at creepy shows
about ghosts and the supernatural. We love showsabout drama, violence, and toxic behavior.
We accept darkness. and we are comfortable withit. In fact, we are comfortable with all sorts
of things, just not God's power. We can bingewatch toxic behavior all day, but when God
(08:22):
shows up in a church, we either make fun ofit, dismiss it as emotionalism, or label it
as something dark. We accept everything elseexcept God. We open ourselves up to the dark
spiritual, the spooky, the mystical, but Godbetter not move at all in our churches. That's
just weird. That's strange fire. One of thebest sermons I have ever heard preached talked
(08:45):
about the man at the tomb who was chained andwould hurt himself because he had a legion
of demons in him. When Jesus approached theman, the demons in him responded and were confronted.
Jesus said, come out of him, and they left andwent into some pigs. The man who previously
had been naked, chained, and destructive, nowwas calm, clothed, and in his right mind. But
(09:07):
when the villagers heard, they were afraid andasked Jesus to leave. They were more comfortable
with this man being demon possessed by a legionof demons than they were with healing. They
were more comfortable with darkness than withGod's ability to deliver. We are the same nowadays,
only instead of a church full of chained, naked, outwardly destructive demon harassed people,
(09:32):
we have churches full of chained, fully clotheddemon harassed people, all nice and tidy and
comfortable.
because they know God's power never shows upthere to challenge them. I guess we think if
we preach enough love and kindness and forgiveness, darkness will just get bored and leave. Just
(09:53):
go on YouTube and search for Christian and you'llfind thousands of messages about love and forgiveness,
how God thinks you're special, and how you'redestined for great things. All this may be
true, but there is hardly anything out therethat actually confronts the darkness in your
life. hardly anything that is backed up by ademonstration of God's power and can actually
(10:15):
set you free and empower you. The world doesn'tneed another well-crafted sermon. The world
needs a demonstration of God's power. In theBible, it talks about where Jesus healed a
man with leprosy. He told him not to tell anyonewhat happened, but to go to the priest as per
the law and bring an offering. The Bible saysthat despite Jesus' instructions, But the man
(10:40):
told everyone, and the report of his power spreadeven faster. Wait, it says the report of his
power. What power? What was his power? His powerwas that he actually healed this man of leprosy.
He had the power to heal this disease. Jesusdidn't offer the man a free downloadable workbook
(11:01):
on relying on God's grace to learn to cope withyour leprosy. He just healed it. We live in
a society that has learned to manage thingsand not really ever expect them to get better
or go away or change. We have moved into managingour sicknesses and diseases. Nowadays you go
to the doctor and most likely they say, what, you expect healing? Oh no, that's not really
(11:26):
what we do anymore. We only manage sickness. This illness is yours. Just identify and learn
to live with it. And just like the medical industrythat helps us manage our sicknesses, churches
today help us manage our darkness, keep it settledand at bay, help us lock it up all neatly inside
and put on a good outward appearance of spiritualholiness. Oh, you were expecting freedom from
(11:52):
torment? No, sorry, that's not what we do. Juststuff that thing back down and behave yourself
like a good little Christian now, you hear?God doesn't want you to manage your darkness
and try harder. He wants to deliver you of thosethings that are not who you are. They don't
belong. Stop making them feel safe. Stop givingthem refuge. Stop defending them and accepting
(12:17):
them as who you are. Let the power of God beon display in you. Let there be a demonstration
of God's power in your life and get free. Whenthe power of God shows up, it can be messy.
In the Bible, when the power of God was present, there would be shrieks. People would writhe
and scream. Evil spirits were being confrontedand removed. It wasn't always a pretty sight.
(12:41):
But our churches are so cozy and quiet, I thinkdarkness must be very comfortable and enthralltened
in most of them. When God's power is on display, things happen. And maybe they don't fit the
bulletins agenda for that day. It might disruptour tidy little church service too much. We
might think, well, This can't be God. This isdisruptive. This is out of order. We are supposed
(13:04):
to be singing hymn 97 right now, not havingpeople on the floor being healed and delivered.
Shut this down. This is not of God. Pastorsand leaders are so afraid that church might
get weird that they have put such a clamp downthat even God can't move there. We have made
sure our churches are weird free. No strangefires, no fleshly outbursts, and especially
(13:28):
no power of God. just nice and tidy religionthe way our ancestors did it. You've been robbed,
robbed of becoming all God intends you to be,robbed of being completely free from everything
that harasses you, from things that aren't whoyou are. Don't you want to be somewhere where
God is able to be on display in all His glory? To be able to participate with Him in the demonstration
(13:54):
of His power? To be in a place where the impossibleis possible? If you hear God doesn't do that
anymore, or that was just the olden days, OldTestament stuff, that should be a clue that
maybe that isn't the place for you. In 2 Corinthiansit says, don't team up with those who are unbelievers.
(14:15):
How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? What harmony
can there be between Christ and the devil? Howcan a believer be a partner with an unbeliever?
As God said, I will be their God, and they willbe my people. Therefore come out from among
unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. The scripture is referring to
(14:40):
believers separating themselves from darknessand unbelief, to come out from amongst unbelievers.
But I say, let's take that even further. It'stime to come out from amongst this form of
Christianity that shuts down the power of God.That keeps God inactive in your life. to separate
ourselves from Christianity that is rooted inunbelief, come out from this powerless religious
(15:04):
system. Let a church start to emerge that isn'tashamed of God or His power, and welcomes all
that He is, where God can be everything He wantsto be, and He isn't constantly told He doesn't
do those things anymore. Churches should bea reflection of all that God is, including
His power. They should be full of the demonstrationof God. People should be lined up to get in
(15:31):
because of all the life and freedom and healing, the delivering power found there. Churches
should be places where darkness is instantlyconfronted and dealt with. We have been robbed
for far too long. We are missing out on so muchof God. It's time to stop being more familiar
and more comfortable with darkness and startallowing God to pass by in all his glory and
(15:56):
power and be on display in us. What Jesus hasaccomplished has made everything possible.
The impossible is now possible, but we are notliving a possible life. He has accomplished
so much more than what is evident in our lives. He is so much more than what is being represented
(16:17):
in what is on display in our churches. We needto reflect all his accomplishments. The demonstration
of all that he is needs to be on display inus. not just a small portion. Jesus, forgive
us for being afraid, for shutting you down.Let there be a demonstration of your power
now. Pass by us today in all your glory, inall your majesty and in all your power. And
(16:44):
let us not only be a witness to your divinenature, but a participant. Let us be caught
up in it and be swept away in all that you are.
