Forskningsprogrammet Framtidens skogsskötsel i södra Sverige, FRAS, genomförs i samarbete mellan de tre forskningsorganisationerna Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet (SLU), Linnéuniversitetet (LNU) och Skogforsk samt skogsnäringen i södra Sverige.
FRAS-programmets höstexkursion den 16 oktober bjöd på ett potpurri av aktuella skogsfrågor och framtidstekniker som kommer att förbättra den skogliga planeringen. Ett 80-tal deltagare möttes i Attsjöskogen utanför Växjö.
Forskare och personer från det praktiska skogsbruket delade med sig av sina kunskaper om föryngring, blandskog, skötsel för andra mål, skador, digitalisering och hög produktion.
Attsjöområdet, knappt 2 mil öster om Växjö, är sedan 1950-talet ägt av Södra. Kring förra sekelskiftet fanns här enorma mängder skog som började exploateras, så mycket att det till och med byggdes en järnväg för att frakta ut sågtimret. Som på många andra platser i landet tog skogen slut efter några decennier, och banan lades slutligen ner 1930. Men idag har skogen återhämtat sig och besökarna möts åter av resliga tallstammar i det 2500 hektar stora området.
