Use Instagram and Facebook stories more

(00:02):
strategically. Now, I know, Iknow, one complaint that I hear
a lot from business owners isthat, well, stories really don't
even matter, because they expirein 24 hours. However, it is one
of the most watched social mediaplatforms that's out there, and
so if that's where your audienceis you want to make sure you're
there as well. If you're onlyposting to your feed, you're

(00:25):
missing a huge engagementopportunity.
Welcome to Social Media forsmall businesses. Are you ready
to turn social media into apowerful marketing funnel that
drives growth, connectsauthentically with your audience
and boost sales. I'm CheyenneClayman, social media strategist

(00:47):
and agency owner here to helpyou transform your social media
into a tool for measurableresults. Each episode, you'll
get actionable strategies, reallife examples and proven
techniques to grow your brandand make an impact. So grab a
notebook and pen. It's time tomake social media work for you.

(01:15):
Are you listening good? Becausewhat if I told you that you
could boost your engagementwithout posting more content. It
probably sounds too good to betrue, right? But here's the
thing, engagement isn't justabout how often you post, it's
about how well you interact withyour audience, whether you've
posted or not, if you've beenfeeling burned out just trying

(01:37):
to keep up with the contentschedule, then this episode was
designed and created just foryou. Today, I'm diving in, and
I'm sharing simple but highlyeffective social media hacks to
increase your engagement, allwithout adding more to your
plate. Before we dive in, let meask you something. Are you
posting on social media? Gettinga few likes here and there, but

(01:59):
wondering why it's not turninginto clients. You're not alone,
and the problem isn't yourcontent, it's that no one's
talking back, and that's wherewe come in at claim and social
media, we specialize in organicengagement and lead generation.
That means we don't just helpyou show up, we help you
connect. We interact with yourideal clients and referral

(02:22):
partners on your behalf so youcan actually build relationships
and grow your business withoutbeing glued to your phone. We're
not bots. We're real humans whocare deeply about your brand,
and when we engage, peoplerespond because we believe that
every message matters if you'reready to turn followers into
clients without the burnout, let's talk. Go to the link in

(02:45):
our show notes and book a freeclarity call. Okay, guys, let's
dive in. I'm gonna start withwhat I like to call the 10
minute rule. What does thatmean? Well, not only do I hope
to keep this podcast about thatlink, that's also the link that
I want to encourage you toengage before you post your
content. So most people post andthen wait for engagement to roll

(03:07):
in, but the secret is actuallywarming up your audience before
you even hit publish. You canthink about it as in, what would
an athlete do before they go upand swing that bat or take a
shoot at the basket? They warmup to get themselves ready for
the game, right? They're warmingup literally the audience, but
also themselves to perform attheir best peak level. So how

(03:30):
can you fix this on socialmedia? Well, I'd encourage you
to spend 10 minutes engagingwith other accounts before you
post. So what does that actuallytangibly look like? Is comment
on their content, reply to theirstories, and just direct message
people, especially those thatyou would consider as your ideal
client. This tells the algorithmthat you're active, and it

(03:51):
increases the chances of yourposts getting seen when it goes
live, right? Because you'reactually telling the algorithm,
hey, you're active, you'reonline, and the algorithm is
going to point more people toyour content in that moment, and
plus, people you interact withare just more likely to return
the favor. It's just naturalhuman nature. Curiosity seeing
this person this business iswriting on my stuff, hmm, a

(04:14):
simple click of a button canbring them over to your content
and see what you're up to. Youwant to make sure also that you
use Instagram and Facebookstories more strategically. I
see a lot of businesses actuallytotally foregoing this option,
and I want to encourage you notto make that same mistake. Now I
know, I know one complaint thatI hear a lot from business

(04:36):
owners is that, well, storiesreally don't even matter because
they expire in 24 hours. However, it is one of the most
watched social media platforms.Have you? Well, that's out
there, and so if that's whereyour audience is, you want to
make sure you're there as well.If you're only posting to your
feed, you're missing a hugeengagement opportunity. Stories

(04:58):
are truly an easy. Way to sparkconversations without
continually creating new posts. And plus, you can actually send
your stories to on Instagram, they have little highlight
bubbles so that if there's a newaudience member, or say your
audience missed something, theycan go to one of those highlight
bubbles and catch up. A simpleway to fix this for making it

(05:19):
easier to really amplify and usestories to your advantage is to
use interactive stickers likepolls, question boxes and
quizzes to encourage yourresponses. I mean, truly
friends, 1520, years ago, peopleused to pay good money to try to
get feedback from their idealclients and their audience,
where you can do this for freeby just simply, again, creating

(05:42):
a poll so someone can vote onsomething. Create a question box
so people can write in their ownwords, and you'll be amazing the
value that this can give you, ifyou learn to listen to it and
use it, also be sure to reply toDMS from your stories. This
signals to the platform thatyou're on that your content is
valuable. So even if it's anemoji, every emoji is worth

(06:06):
being responded to anotherbehind the scenes. Tip is, if
anyone comments an emoji on anyof your content, be sure to
write back, but do not writejust an emoji where, yes, it is
a sense of engagement you're notreally leading them to come
back. That's what my team and Iare all about, is how can we
engage with this person in anauthentic way? Sending an emoji

(06:27):
is kind of like sending a smileto someone in real life. It may
say something nice and warm andhey, we're we see you, but
you're not going to actually getto know this person unless you
open your mouth, right? Unlessyou engage with conversation,
and that's what you want to doon social media as well. I think
overall, as a people, we haveforgotten my favorite word in

(06:48):
that, which is social. And so mygoal, and my team's goal, is to
literally make social socialagain. And how can we bring a
more social aspect into how weinteract online, especially when
it comes to our businesses. Sowith your stories, you can also
share behind the scenes moments, quick tips, or say customer
shout outs to keep your audienceengaged. People love getting

(07:12):
seen and heard, right? I mean, just think about at any
graduation ceremony or at theend of the year in school, when
they give out awards, right?People love to hear their name.
And so you can use this in yourbusiness as a way to help people
feel seen and help them keepcoming back. Now I have two more
tips for you, and I want tobreak it down really simple. So
we already talked about the 10minute rule, right? Doing that

(07:33):
before you post. Well, you knowwhat? It's the same great rule
for after, for after you postyour comment. So after
you post your content, goafterwards for 10 minutes and
just spend time engaging on it,even if it's going in the
comments and writing your owncomment or something that works
really good is to continuegiving value in the comments. So

(07:57):
it causes people to stay on yourcontent longer, which is also
another trick, and it works likemagic. Go back and leave a
thoughtful comment. And why doesthis matter? Well, that good old
algorithm, it boosts engagementearly. So you're signaling to
the algorithm that your post isofficially active, not that just
that it's active, that it'sposted, but that it is getting

(08:18):
activity. So it invites othersalso to join the conversation,
if possible, tag a relevantperson or say, ask a follow up
question in your comments tokeep the discussion going.
That's what it's all about onsocial media, is to bring the
authenticity back there, tocreate relationships. Because
where those vanity metrics we'regetting a bunch of likes or

(08:39):
views on a reel. May feel goodat the end of the day. They
don't matter. They don't add toyour bottom line. This is why
you'll see accounts that have100 200 followers, making way
more money than someone who has10,000 followers, because of the
value and how deep they go withthose 200 versus the 10,000 just
posting and ghosting. So anotheramazing step you can take once

(09:03):
you post is to startconversations in the DMS or the
direct messages, right? Youdon't want to be spammy. You
don't want to act like you're abot. You don't want to pitch
something to sell, right? Sothey really are an opportunity
for you to connect with people. Most business owners that I talk
with, they wait, they wait fortheir audience to message them,

(09:23):
but the real engagement boosthappens when you take the lead,
right? So, how can you do thiswithout coming off as spammy?
Well, I'm glad you asked, because I've got a few tips for
you. So you can simply reply topeople's stories with a genuine
comment. You know, this starts aprivate conversation, right? It
opens up the opportunity to getright into their direct messages

(09:44):
and get the conversation going. You also can follow up with
people who have engaged withyour posts before. You can ask
them a casual question relatedto their interests. You know, I
share with our clients all thetime, like this is a gold mine.
Social media really gives you anopportunity to get inside P.
People's head because they'resharing it publicly. Again, it's
not like the olden days, right?2030, years ago, before social

(10:06):
media, where businesses had toeither spend a lot of money or a
lot of time to figure out, whatare their customers like? What
does their ideal audience want? What are their passions? What
are their interests? What aretheir spending habits? Nowadays,
you can click on someone'sprofile, and go find out
probably about 80% of that, especially if they have a public
profile, just by going on theirpage. So be sure to amplify

(10:29):
that. Ask people questions aboutwhat interests them, and you'll
notice you'll start to buildtrust, which can build a
relationship, which is going tobuild people more likely to
purchase from your brand or yourbusiness versus another
competitor. I also cannotemphasize how personal voice
notes are. So whether you hateyour voice or not, a simple

(10:50):
message really can go a lotlonger way. Instead of text, it
feels more personal, and itultimately builds stronger
relationships, and that wayyou're also proving to your
potential customers or clientsthat you are not just a bot.
This is a real person that isengaging with them. So the more
conversations you have in theDMS, the more the algorithm will

(11:13):
push your content to thosepeople in the future, which I
find kind of funny, becausethere are private conversations
between you in this person, noone else knows you're having
them, except Big Brother, right?Except unfortunately, the
algorithm, but notunfortunately, because it
actually can really end up beingsomething that serves you both,
because when you are showingthese platforms that you're

(11:35):
communicating with these people,it sees that you in this person
have a connection, and it'sgoing to push your content to
them even more. Okay, so thelast point I'm making for this
episode, as we come to landingour plane, as I like to say, you
want to join the rightconversations, right? So not
only is it important to post andcreate the right conversations

(11:58):
for your ideal clients, you wantto make sure you're joining them
as well. And there's two areaswhere you can find this probably
the most beneficial, and that'sgoing to be on Facebook and
LinkedIn groups. So if you'reonly engaging with your existing
audience, you're missing out onnew potential followers, right?
This is a really great way, especially if engagement has

(12:18):
been failing or you have a smallfollower account, or really
honestly, an engaged audienceaccount, so one of the fastest
ways you can grow engagement isto join active conversations in
the relevant groups. So whatdoes this look like? Like? How
do you do it? So you want tofind groups where your ideal
clients are hanging out. This isactually something that we

(12:40):
amplify and do a lot at claim insocial media. This is how we do
our organic lead generation. Weexplain to people who are
interested in our services inthis way, that instead of paying
a bunch of money for ads, thatyou can set up an ideal
audience, of course, but what'sthe most that they can do is
probably connect and get you, maybe someone's name and email,

(13:01):
but then that's all you have. That's all you know about these
people, is a name and an email. You don't know what their likes
and their interests are. Youhaven't had a chance to build
relationships yet. So that'swhere if you go, where people
are hanging out that are yourideal clients, then you can
actually get a bird's eye viewof who they are. What do they
like to do? What are theytalking about? What are their

(13:21):
passions? What are theirinterests? You just want to make
sure when you go into thesegroups that you don't just
promote yourself, right? Youdon't want to go in and
instantly start trying to sell.First and foremost, you want to
add value, answer questions andengage authentically how people
feel seen, comment on somethingthat they are dealing with that,
perhaps your services resolve oranswer their problem, but first,

(13:46):
help them feel seen, answer itin a way of a me too, or I've
been there, or I know how thatfeels. And once people start
recognizing your name, once youare showing up more
authentically there, they'regonna check out your profile and
engage with your content too. Sothis is truly a game changer for
local businesses, which, by theway, I'm going to cover more in
an upcoming episode. So if youhaven't hit the subscribe button

(14:09):
yet, please take a moment and doso, because you don't want to
miss that. If you're tired ofposting, but you're still not
getting engagement. Andhonestly, if you're already
trying to do a lot of thesetactics that I've shared with
you today, but you just feellike you don't have the time to
do it. Well, we can help atclaiming social media. We have
monthly Social Media Managementpackages, including done for you
