(00:00):
Hello and welcome to episode 8 of Step Into Me. I'm Belinda Lee and today I want to talk
(00:09):
about intuition and authentic living. Now I strongly believe that we all possess a
quiet wisdom deep inside. It's that gentle silent voice that tends to nudge us towards
our truest selves. And one of the ways that that quiet voice likes to get our attention
is through intuition, those little feelings that we get, those little nudges, and learning
(00:34):
to recognize and develop your intuition can help you tune in to what feels real and
what feels right for you. And when we honour that truth, that's when we become better
acquainted with our authentic selves. So settle in and keep an open mind because today's
guest lives and breathes intuition. You define what resonates with your own soul and you
(00:59):
follow that even if it looks different to what other people think you should be.
Today we are talking intuition and authentic living with clairvoyant medium, Ruthie Phillips.
One year ago, I attended a lunch in Sydney, Australia and was introduced to Ruthie Phillips.
(01:22):
It was just prior to my move from Australia to the UK and my now husband and I were planning
to settle in Oxford. But during the course of our lunch, Ruthie turned to me and said,
you'll move to a place outside of Oxford and she grabbed an applicant to show me where it
was in relation to Oxford. It starts with a tea, it's called fame or ten or something like
(01:46):
that. That's where you'll be living. Well I thanked Ruthie for her insight but really
didn't give it a lot of thought because my husband and I are city people and I felt fairly
certain that we would be living in Oxford. Well we moved to the UK and after more than
six weeks of looking, we decided to extend our search area but we still needed a place
(02:10):
with direct access to a train. Then one Sunday afternoon, my husband mentioned a little
town. It was around 15 miles east of Oxford and whilst it didn't have a train line, there
was a station just five minutes drive away. So we hopped on a bus and the moment it turned
into the high street, we knew that we had found the place we wanted to live. It was spelled
(02:35):
THAM. Not fame or tems but it was pronounced tame. How Ruthie knew I have absolutely no
idea but hopefully by the end of today's chat we'll have a better understanding of just
how intuition works. Ruthie Phillips, welcome to stepping to me. Thank you for having me.
(02:59):
I'm delighted to join in you. So firstly, how did you get into this field? I was kind of
born that way. I come from a long line. My family are actually on the Romano register and
the new forest here in the UK and my great-grandmother, I don't know about my great-great-spot
my great-grandmother, I used to tell fortunes in the back of a gypsy caravan and my sixth
(03:23):
great-grandmother, her surname was light. I always like to think that I come from the light but
my grandfather took me to the spiritualist church when I was 13 for the first time and I remember
saying the joy on people's faces when the medium came to them. She was amazing medium. Her name was
Beatrice Swayby, I've never forgotten and she would come and give messages to people from the platform
(03:46):
and I remember she came to my grandfather and gave him a message and I turned to him because it was
standing room only and said to him, "Was that right?" and he said, "Oh my boy, Jess." And I thought,
"That's what I want to do. I want to bring that sort of joy in the look on those people's face.
I want to bring that to them. I want to do those messages." Little did I know, I'd already signed up
(04:07):
for that. So I was surrounded by my people in spirit when I went home that night and I couldn't
not see them, even with my eyes closed and my head under the covers. And it did frightenate bells
out of me, but they retreated a little bit but I then started to develop an interest in
spirituality, past lives, life in between life, all sorts of different things as a teenager and I
(04:33):
thought it was normal reading for a teenager, but I learned later it wasn't. And then when I moved
to Australia, I went to see a medium and had my card thread, or actually she was a clever one medium,
and she said to me, "Oh, you should be on the other side of the table with me here." And I said, "Pardon?"
And I went and joined her circle and I started doing readings in that circle. I didn't know how I was
(04:57):
doing. I just saw things and so I was very visual and then I developed from there and then I realized
I was getting messages from people who had passed away. And so that's how it's really kind of started
in the short story form. So are there ways that we can develop our own intuition?
That is very much tied into how to live an authentic life and one of the best ways is to learn to listen
(05:21):
to your inner voice often. You know, carve out a quiet space and ask yourself, "Is this choice
truly mine?" Or is this just what's expected of me? If I follow this path, where do I imagine that
might lead? Or maybe if I choose the opposite path, where would that lead? How do I feel in my heart
(05:42):
about this? So you have to keep returning to your heart, not your head, because it's not always about
the analytical and the mental. It's about the feeling and living by your values, because your goals can
change. Whereas your values are your compass. And if you stick to your values, then that's very much
truly who you are in your heart. What you believe and you let go of masks and you just be true to
(06:08):
yourself and every time you follow your inner guidance, your inner knowing, your gut knowledge,
it's like going to the gym and exercising a muscle, it gets stronger. So you go, "Well,
last time I followed my inner guidance and it told me or helped me to decide to do this,
and it turned out really beneficially. I'm going to try it again." And each time you do it,
(06:30):
you get stronger and you get more confident and you get more trusting in your own self. And then
you can start to think, "Okay, or maybe I can connect with my spiritual family, my soul group,
whoever, on the other side, if that's what you want to do, but you can still stay checking
with your inner guidance yourself." So oftentimes when our dreams or goals don't seem to be coming true,
(06:55):
I think that's when a lot of people lose faith in the process. Personally, I believe that if there's
a specific outcome attached that it's not in wisdom necessarily, just wishful thinking. But what are
your thoughts? Do you think there's a difference between goals and that in short of nudge?
Definitely. And we're in a time of major manifestation. And what's actually happening is that we
(07:20):
have to be very careful of what we wish for, because we'll get it good, bad or indifferent,
because things are speeding up so much, but it's about really understanding our needs and our ones.
And also understanding what is for our higher good. And this is where you've got to check in,
(07:40):
because it might not be for your higher good to win the lottery and get a four million pound house.
It may destroy relationships around you or give you a false sense of who you are. You just don't know.
So sometimes what you have to do is really come back into yourself and go, what is it that I need
(08:01):
to aim for that is for my higher good and maybe of service to the collective as well.
So how do the messages come to you? Because when I have those moments of inspiration, say in the
shower or wherever it might be, I often describe them as downloads because I don't feel like sentences
or regular thoughts to me, they feel more like a zip file with all the information packed inside.
(08:27):
Is that how tame when you saw that? Is that how it came to you at lunch that day?
Yeah, it is kind of like a download because I pick up on people's energy and then I might get
someone come through from spirit or my people might say, oh, you need to tell them this, but we were
talking and I just tuned into your energy field like I do to many people and I just go, oh,
(08:51):
she's going to be looking somewhere, I know where it is. And I could see a map in my mind's eye and I
could see where it was and then I could see the name. And so that's how it kind of works. I'm very visual
being a clairvoyant, the clair means clear and voyant means seeing in French. So it's for me,
it's like little snapshots or videos or postcards or some visual signal that I will get.
(09:16):
What about signs? Are they something we should look for as well? Can they help us develop our intuition?
Well, yes indeed because sometimes we have decisions to make and we need confirmation one way or
the other. So I often ask people to think of a symbol or a sign, it could be a number plate or
it could be a flag or a flower or a pet or something like that. And you ask a universe, please give me
(09:43):
confirmation in the form of like a number plate with the numbers such and such on it and make this
the confirmation that it is for my higher good that I do dot dot dot dot. I will gain this undergrace.
I love you all. Thank you. And then what you do is you go away and you wait and have a look.
A lot of people I asked for a feather once when I was going to renter place that it was the right place
(10:08):
from for my daughter and I to go and live in and I got to the real estate agent's door and it was
like someone had shot a flock of birds. There were so many feathers and another time I was going back
I had flown for quantas for a long time and I wanted to return and I it was going to be a hard job
to get back in but I thought I could do this. So I needed confirmation. So I was up the park with my
(10:32):
daughter and a friend and I said may I have confirmation please in the form of a number plate with the numbers
seven four seven on it. I thought I'm going to get really specific here. We drove home and outside my
house closer than I could park was a car parked right outside my gate with the numbers seven four seven
(10:53):
on it but not only that it had my initials before the seven four seven and I went, hmm seems like a sign.
So I was very excited about that because that was something that really confirmed my path ahead
and that's what I suggest people do is ask for a symbol or a sign. If you don't get it then ask for
(11:13):
a different symbol or sign for the opposite action but still in the positive. So when you're conducting
a reading do you think part of your role is also to validate what people already know to be true
for themselves? When I'm working with someone on a spiritual level I'm helping them identify their
true self their true essence and are they walking that path that true authentic path that is their
(11:40):
own one you know over the temple in Delphi where the oracle sat the two words no of i self and part of
what I do is help people get to know themselves so that they can tap into their own in a wisdom they
don't need to come and consult the oracle all the time but they can check and for instance just before
we were talking I had a session with a client who had no long time and she's developed her spiritual
(12:05):
awareness but she was asking me questions about her path and etc and I was giving her answers and she
said oh that's such great confirmation that's exactly what I thought and felt and it was picking up too
so I'm more like the confirmation service if you know what I mean so it helps them identify their own
strengths and where their gifts lie and being true to themselves. Have you ever had a situation where
(12:32):
through a reading and you tapping in has that helped someone tap into their own truth?
I've got a couple of clients that I've seen for a long time because people tend to sort of stay
with me and come back over the years what I would call a top-up if you know what I mean and I see the change
in them I see the change for instance I was speaking to someone the other day who was very tight,
(12:56):
very buttoned up, very pulled back and very strict with herself and over the time that I've known her
and been working with her I see such a change in her she's just mellowed and become less strict with
herself and more allowing and gentle and kind to herself and more understanding and really tuning in
(13:20):
and doing things like going to meditation classes and seeing a counsellor and working on herself
spiritually as well as seeing me and what a difference from someone who was in the military
who used to see me with her hair all back and in her uniform in an office and now I see her in the
(13:42):
morning and she's in a dressing gown with a hair wild and you know it's that sort of thing that she's
becoming more her true self and that's the thing those are the people that give me joy because
they've found themselves. So what are some of the misconceptions about your line of work?
Time doesn't exist in spirit so timing is a bit tricky because spirit can say soon and that can
(14:06):
be anything from last week to two years time so when one is having a reading and a psychic will say to you
I can see this happening that's in that now moment that is the energy surrounding that event in
the now moment in the next now moment next week next month next year whatever that can change
(14:27):
because everyone's got free will around that event occurring it's a malleable thing you know people
don't understand that and also you know mediums we're here and we might have a gift
but we're human we're still human so we can make mistakes and in fact you know I've had a client
come back to me and said you said I was going to have a baby and I haven't had a baby and la la la la
(14:52):
and she really told me off and I thought oh gosh I still can see it but you know she's not listening to
me and there's six months later she said I'm pregnant I'd like to have another reading and oh gosh you
know and this is what I'm saying it's like it's everybody has their own agenda so it's very you have
to keep it fluid and open and understand but when more than one psychic or medium or clever when
(15:15):
tells you the same thing it's time to sit up and listen is there ever a time when someone shouldn't
see a medium? Well I can say yes because I I had someone come to see me and her husband had only
died six hours before and she didn't tell me and that wasn't a good session let me tell you
she was in a dreadful state and wanted to hear from him and this poor soul was in transition
(15:42):
and there was no way that we could do anything about that so that was not a good look
and certainly not something that I would ever recommend there were people who are going through such
emotional turmoil and have gone through depression or who are on drugs either recreational or pharmaceutical
and when they're out of it like that that's certainly not a time to go and see someone
(16:06):
you don't need to be nondespirate I mean a lot of people who are emotional do come to see me
but it's very much it's needing help it's a I'm a lifeline you know it's a cry for help in many ways
but it's not we're not getting people who are wanting to take their own life or heavily under
the influence of drugs or pancolas or anything like that so I really think that you have to be very
(16:30):
mindful of that I found that in my 20s and maybe early 30s if someone said that they'd been to a
medium and the person was fabulous I'd want to go along if not just for a bit of fun but I have to say
some were pretty amazing others not so amazing and I think over time I felt myself learning to trust
(16:52):
myself more so in a way seeing a clairvoyant medium was part of the process for me in learning to
tune into myself more and really being more open to the magic of life and what happens next rather
than feeling the need for someone to tell me what might be on the horizon but for someone interested
(17:12):
in seeking validation or hope or just out of curiosity what should they look for in a clairvoyant
medium well it depends you know if it's a medium one thing that you must get and what I always do
first is do survival evidence so proof of survival unless it's someone I've known a long time and I
(17:32):
know their loved ones and spirit and they know I know them I would never say I've got your granny here
I would say I've got a lady here she looks like this she was this this was her personality she used
to love to do that I might even say you know if she was a good cook she was waving a wooden spoon
she's talking about her recipe for fruit cake and there was a special ingredient so I'd
(17:54):
describe a lot about the person that I'm picking up on so that there's no doubt in the mind of
the person I'm reading for that this is the person that they know and spirit that this is someone
that they know and love and connect with or it may be someone that they don't want to hear from
but I'm still describing them and they go gosh I wouldn't have thought that he or she would have
come through to me but first of all we establish authenticity and this is the thing you find out
(18:21):
who it is and you make sure that your person that's having the session knows who it is before you pass
on any messages that way you've got validity to your messages and that's very very important
you don't take the mediums word for it I've got your mum here I've got your granny or I've got your
great auntsu or whatever you ask for proof of survival so I also want to talk to you about authenticity
(18:46):
and I I realized that some people might scoff at the thought of a medium discussing authenticity when
you know in the past they've been associated with quacks and so on but it's so much of what you
do is centered around tapping in and just that little experience that I had with you it really did
blow my mind because how did you know when I certainly didn't know I'd never heard of time and I
(19:13):
was a hundred percent not guided by what you said that day and it's the reason why I invited you
onto the program just to try and tap into you little more to find out more so in the first instance how
do you define authenticity for me it's about being spiritually authentic because of course
everyone would know charlatans and quacks and get rich quick scheme people who read cards and just
(19:39):
tell you what they think you want to know but being spiritually authentic to me is really important
because it means living from the inside out I'm being guided by my inner knowing not just by rules
or dogma or appearance I'm more corporate clairvoyant than cliche clairvoyant I do walk my talk and I'm
very honest with people and I had a client say to me the other day I love it when I have a session with
(20:03):
you because you give me a good kick up the fundamental and I know exactly where I'm going because I'm very
much about head and head and feet on earth it's no point being spiritual without being in the earthly
good to anyone so that's kind of what it means to me and we we also need to be humble and grounded
spiritual authenticity and authentic spirituality isn't about being enlightened it's actually about
(20:28):
being present in the now moment being humble and being real being the real deal and not having to
prove anything a lot of people say oh I'm media or I'm spiritual and that sort of thing but their life
doesn't exhibit that you're not actually performing spirituality for others approval so whether it's
(20:49):
prayer meditation stillness or nature it's actually real and it's real for you and it's what you do
so it's very important and you define what resonates with your own soul and you follow that even if
it looks different to what other people think you should be so one of the traits of an authentic person
authentic people they're self-aware they understand their emotions and motivations and patterns
(21:14):
and they understand the light and shadow of life and they're not actually afraid to explore their
inner world and they've probably gone through their own dark night of the soul also what you see is
what you get there's no pretence no persona just realness you're not getting the the Facebook or the
insta profile where everything's glorious and then really the person at home posting all these
(21:36):
gloriousnesses completely adods with that and they also are very consistent in their words and actions
so they don't just talk about values and talk about things they actually live them and integrity
tends to be their compass not convenience so they'll do the right thing over doing the easy thing
and they're also comfortable with vulnerability so they don't hide their flaws or pretend to have it
(22:00):
all together like some gurus sitting on a rock they actually know that real connection requires
openness and an ability to share they're also unafraid to stand alone so they don't need to follow
the crowd to feel secure if something goes against their beliefs or they don't like something that's
going on in a group situation they'll leave and walk their own path or they'll absent themselves
(22:26):
because it doesn't sit well with their energy also they tend not to be stuck in image management
mode they're you feel safe and you feel seen around them because they're with you they're not performing
and I think one of the most important things is that they're respectful of others' truths so they
don't impose their identity and their values and their truth on other people I think that's so
(22:50):
important what you say about respecting others' truths because increasingly they just seems to be
this divide in the world even amongst friends and family I think COVID was a very good example of
that where friendship sometimes decades old were torn apart because of conflicting beliefs
and as much as we see the world coming together becoming you know more aware and more inclusive
(23:15):
in in areas such as neurodiversity and equality and the issues of gender and so on there also seems
to be this growing divide on the planet between rich and poor and between left and right and so on
so why do you think that's happening well separation is born out of fear and there's only two emotions
(23:35):
really in the world love and fear anything anything that's not love is generated by fear and so
we reject people we reject their ideas we reject their religion their idealistic their sexual
orientation which rejects things like that because we're fearful and we think it's going to impact
on us and choices around as you say around COVID people were so heavily brainwashed at that time
(24:02):
but you can do that to people when they're in fear and this is the problem so whenever anybody
doesn't understand something it usually generates a fear of some sort and that's why we reject and why
we separate whereas if we go within ourselves and go I actually don't quite get that but is it
actually physically threatening me is my life in danger if I don't believe the same as this person
(24:27):
or should I walk my own path or should I do what someone tells me to feel and this is the whole thing
it's about really understanding yourself and going within and checking that in a guidance
and what's true for you because what's true for you may not be true for any other person on the planet
so there's so much of that going on we're wanting to accept on paper but people are having a hard time
(24:54):
learning to do that because also we're being bombarded by incredible amounts of light frequency
right now and we're going through a major shift Gaia herself the earth the planet is going through
a major shift and all of our frequencies are being raised and people who can't handle that tend to
(25:14):
drop into fear and get into judgment and start not accepting people and not being true to themselves
so that's kind of what's going on in in a nutshell really what advice would you have for the
person who is struggling to be their authentic self? Strip it all back to what's really true think
(25:35):
about what matters to you who matters to you who really matters you know it's your it's your loved
ones that's your family it's your friends who are the ones that are there for you and are you present
for them to the same degree is there an exchange of energy? Get rid of the people in your life and
(25:55):
it sounds brutal but it isn't it isn't we've only all only got so much time but the people who don't
support who you truly are who expect to do be something else those are the people that are not
exchanging energy with you so let them go gently and kindly and with love but be around people
who feed your soul who support your heart who support your journey and who you do likewise too
(26:22):
be true to yourself and be true to those that you love what's one thing you wish everyone
knew about the journey to authenticity we're all only here for a blink of an eye in cosmic terms
and if we can't be truthful to ourselves in that time it's a waste because we're not doing what
(26:43):
we came to do we're here to play a role that we've chosen before we come here so let's just be real
about it all have a great time enjoy this amazing experience in physicality because we're all spiritual
beings having this physical experience let's just all enjoy it and really get into it and be truthful
(27:05):
about it as we do a lot of what you're saying there I think seems to be aligned with purpose and we
certainly hear a lot about it these days you know jump on instagram and everyone's saying you need to
find your purpose but do you think they're working our intuitive muscle tapping into ourselves and
so on that that can actually help us find our purpose one of the things that I often suggest when
(27:26):
you know kids are trying to decide on careers and things like that it's the same with your life
you just sit back and you go what gives me joy what do I love doing above all else is it talking to people
is it being with animals is it healing is it being in nature and I think you'll find that your
(27:48):
gift and your mission for this life is reflected in some way of what you love so if you love to be in
your garden and you love growing things and your inter herbs or vegetables or flowers or plants or trees
then maybe your path is to be an arborist or someone who grows herbs a herbalist or
(28:12):
gal working at garden centre that's just an example it's taking the money aspect and the need to
earn something out of it and you know this too Bell because you are doing this you're following
your dream you're following your path you take that desire and need to think I have to mold myself
(28:32):
to make money but if you do what makes your heart sing all else follows and we have to follow that
path don't we with no set destination but rather to have absolute faith in God or the universe
or divine wisdom or whatever you want to call it and trust that it will guide us to where we need to be
(28:56):
it's like putting conditions on things you know people try to manifest things in their life and
they they're doing all the manifestation techniques that are out there and following all the
the rule books and everything but they they put so many rules on it and I want it by so and so
and I I want the color to be this and I want that and all of that sort of stuff so they're actually
(29:18):
telling God or the universe how to do it not just what they want but how to do it and so it's about
putting your faith in the divine in the cosmos in the universe and saying okay well I'll do the
earthly yards on this one can I leave all the other stuff the arrangement of the synchronicities
up to you guys please and I'm going to do that and I know that you'll position me in the right
(29:41):
place at the right time to do what I need to do and to meet who I need to meet and do all of that
and that's exactly how we move forward in our life if we trust that if we know that if we're
following what's right because when we're following what's right all the doors are flung open
well Ruthie you live your life guided by intuition both professionally obviously and personally
(30:05):
so what does your husband feel about that because I'm guessing you are the person who makes the big
decisions yes poor man he didn't know really what hit signed up well he did kind of know what he'd
signed up for but I'll give you a good example when we were selling our house and bath spirit told me
(30:27):
18 months before we were to sell the house the exact date that we were to show the house
for the first time we did all the hard yards and we got the agents appointed and the photographers
and everything like that and the first viewing was on the exact date that spirit told me and I
(30:47):
didn't even know at the time 18 months before I had to look it up that it was a Saturday and we had
two viewings booked at nine o'clock and ten o'clock in the morning and they told me that the house would
sell quickly and when the agent we were whimpering at the front door when the agent came in the morning
because we were so tired and we went down the road for breakfast and afterwards we saw the agent
(31:09):
and the agent said to me oh it went quite well and I said oh that's good I said I feel our buyers
seen the house and he's scoffed at me he said they don't be ridiculous it's only two people and
I need several people interested and I said tell me what was the name of the first people who saw the
house this morning at nine o'clock and he said Mr and Mrs. Fier and I said what F.E.A.R. and he said yes
(31:32):
I said all there are buyers and he said no I said yes I said I filled that house with so much
love and there are only two emotions in the world as I mentioned before love and fear they need
our house they really needed so I went and had a sleep after all that and at five to twelve
the phone rang and the agent said Mr and Mrs. Fier have made an offer for the full asking
(31:56):
price goodness so my husband kind of goes along with stuff now
Ruthie well I've really enjoyed this chat and I'm sure there are possibly people listening who
might want to get in touch with you as well you're based in the UK and Australia and I know you offer
ratings and so on via zoom as well so how do people get in touch with you oh thank you
(32:20):
um they can go onto my website www.ruthiefilips.com they can email me at info@ruthiefilips.com or
ruthiefilips.com@gmail.com and I do do zoom readings when I'm in the UK I see people personally when I'm
in Australia I see people personally but I also do zooms wherever I am so I have clients worldwide
(32:44):
and I'm very good at working out time zones and that's Phillips with one L or two with two L so
r u t h i e p h i l l i p s dot com fantastic Ruthie thank you so much for giving us a little more
insight today as to what you do and also how we can develop our own intuition and incorporate that
(33:08):
in our journey to authenticity thank you so much thank you Bell it's been an honor and a pleasure
well I hope you got something out of today's conversation I thought it would be interesting to
just get the insights from a clairvoyant medium about intuition and living an authentic life remember
the journey to authenticity starts with listening really listening to yourself and tapping in to
