Ep. 15 - I Am Yours

Hello, welcome to Take 10. This is your host, Tamika, and we are back.
All right, let's get into it. The title for our message today is, I Am Yours.
So just to give you some background, I was listening to the song,
Oceans, Where Feet May Fell by Hillsong, and it really touched me in a weird way.

(00:36):
I've heard this song over and over before, but the words just stood out to me
was I am yours and you are mine.
So this episode is going to be about I am yours. So here's our base scripture Psalms 119 94.
Save me for I am yours. I have sought out your precepts. The wicked are waiting

(00:57):
to destroy me, but I will ponder your statues to our perfection.
I see a limit, it, but your commands are boundless. Okay.
So you don't know this, but I was raised by a single mother.
My father was not in our lives. She left him when I was about four years old,

(01:17):
I believe, or maybe a little bit younger.
She was married to my father, our father, me and my three brothers.
And she left because he had an addiction to drugs.
And we lived with my grandmother for some years. I saw my father,
I think, once when I was younger, maybe twice.
And he gave us some money. And that was the one time I remember seeing him.

(01:41):
But as I embarked in my 30s, I remember looking for him.
I felt like there were some voids in my life. And I really wanted to find him.
So to make a long story short, I found him. And somehow, he got lost again.
And so I found him again. And this time, I bought him a cell phone. own.
And the reason for that was because I really wanted to stay in contact with him.

(02:05):
There was something in me that
was pushing me to build some sort of relationship or connection with him.
And thank God that I obeyed and we were able to do that.
And he actually got to see, before he passed away, he got to see my brother
Jonathan get married and he got to see just some amazing things.
But I had this one encounter with him.

(02:26):
He was with me. I think I was taking him somewhere and I was driving.
So I was in the city and I think I lived in Maryland at the time.
So I didn't really get to see him a lot, but we talked a lot.
After I put him on the cell phone, he made it a point to call me every day just
to talk for a few short minutes, but he just made it a point. And I appreciated that.
So we were in the car and I went to go get some gas and, you know,

in Philadelphia, some, sometimes the guys are there and they're just trying
to make some money and it can be a little pushy sometimes.
Um, but they, they say they'll wash the windows or they'll pump your gas.
And my father was like, no, she's okay. No, I said, no, my father said,
no, she's okay. I'll pump the gas. So I said, thanks dad.
And again, me, you know, we're talking

(03:12):
about maybe a little less in a year right but I'm
his oldest daughter and so anyway he he
the man the man was pushy he's like he started because
he actually starts to wash my windows and so
my father gets out of the car and he's
like my daughter already told you no like back
up get away from her car she already said no no

(03:34):
move and I'm like uh-oh like I'm like
wait a minute but in that moment I really
it stands out in my mind because it
was such probably a pivotal moment because I never
had someone to stand up for me
in that way right and so because my father wasn't in my life and so I think

(03:56):
the you know their coping mechanisms and things that I have had to learn because
I didn't have that like I didn't have anyone like one like saying this is my
daughter or this is my whatever, right?
My mom did it in her own way, but it's different when it's your father.
It's different when it's someone else. And so it stands out to me because there

(04:20):
was protection, there was possession, there was a sense of ownership and safety, right?
And so I could have handled the man just fine, but I didn't have to.
And I wasn't familiar with that. I say that because...
As I was praying and that song was playing, I was, it just stood out to me and

(04:42):
it took me back to that memory of I am yours, meaning that I belong to God, right?
And so this applies to you. I'm speaking about me, but this applies to you too.
And this notion in Psalms 119.94 is that save me for I am yours.
And it just stands out because I think I've probably struggled in my walk with

(05:05):
God in some ways because you're supposed to think of him as a father and what
does that look like and as I'm
getting closer and building my relationship with God I am starting to see.
I am God's like, he will protect me.
There's possession over me and he has not left me out here to fend for myself.

(05:26):
And even though I've learned all of these ways of being independent and to take
care of myself, like I belong to God, I am his, right?
And it says in verse 95, the wicked are waiting to destroy me,
but I will ponder your statutes to all perfection.
I see a limit, but your commands are boundless.

(05:47):
And it just blew my mind. And I just wanted to share that with you. Right.
And this is probably unlike some of the rest of the take 10 episodes,
but you are God, you belong to him. He cares.
And even though we live in a very uncaring world,
like you have someone that is looking out for you and it may not be at a gas

(06:11):
station or anything like that,
but it may be on your job where you feel like you are alone or in your family
where you may not feel like there's anyone standing up for you or the world.
This world can be so cruel and selfish, but you have a God that is on the throne and he cares.

(06:32):
He cares. We serve a great God and he sits on high and though he looks low, he will provide.
He's a provider. He loves us unconditionally. Even when we are wrong, we cannot escape God.
It says, even if I make my bed in hell, he will be there. He will never leave us nor forsake us.

(06:58):
And he cares. And I know it may feel like you are in the depths of despair right now.
But I'm just here to remind you that God is here. We are his.
We're his children. We belong to him. And just like my father stepped out and
to the guy that was being pushy and just, he said something with possession.

(07:23):
It's like, that's my daughter already told you. It was like,
it was like I had backup. He said, So my daughter already told you, get away.
It just reminded me in a moment, in a place where I really need God to step
into my situation that I am his and he will step in and he will protect me and he will provide for me.
He has not forgotten about me and he will remember me.

(07:45):
And I just want to encourage you to remember that you belong to him. All right.
