Welcome to episode 17 of Take 10. Your host, Tameka, delves into a three-part series titled "Surrounded", and this first episode lays the groundwork for the role of prophets in scripture and our understanding of how this prophetic power manifests itself in Elisha's life. Based on 2 Kings 6:8-13, this episode provides a rich explanation of Elisha's anointing and how it benefited the king of Israel during a time of war against Aram.

Elisha, a protegé of Elijah, was graced with a double portion of his master's anointing. This robust spiritual endowment gave Elisha access to divine revelations and ability to guide the leadership of Israel, as evidenced by his instructions to the king about the war strategies of Aram’s king.

This episode is the kickoff to the three-part series "Surrounded". Stay tuned for the subsequent episodes, which promise more enlightening discussions.

Hello and welcome back to Take 10. This is your host Tameka and I am so excited to be back.
We are on episode 17 and this is going to be a three-part series and it is titled Surrounded.
Okay, let's get into it. Our base scripture is 2 Kings 6, 8 through 23.

(00:35):
However, in this first part, we're only going to cover verses 8 through 13.
Now the king of Aram was at war against Israel After consulting with his servants,
he said, my camp will be in such and such place.
Then the man of God sent word to the king of Israel, be careful passing by this

(00:55):
place for the Armenians are going down there.
So the king of Israel sent word to the place the man of God had pointed out.
Time and time again, Elisha warned the king so that he was on guard in such places.
Places for this reason the king of aram became
enraged and called his servants to demand of

(01:16):
them tell me which one of us is
on the side of the king of israel but one
of the servants replied no one my lord the king
for elisha the prophet of israel tells the king of israel the very words you
speak in your bedroom so the king said go and see where he is that i may send

(01:37):
men to capture him So I just want to give you some background around Elisha
and the role of the prophet.
The prophet Elisha was a servant to the prophet Elijah.
A lot of this takes place in 1 and 2 Kings.
Elijah was a mighty prophet.
Elisha was a prophet that basically was training under Elijah.

(01:58):
So when it was time for Elijah to go, God was going to send him up to heaven.
Elijah asked Elisha, what do you want?
Elisha said, I would like a double portion of your anointing.
So Elijah said to him, okay, what you're asking for is a really hard thing.

(02:19):
However, if you see me ascend up, then you will know that it was granted unto you, right? Right.
So that's just giving you some background on Elisha.
So now Elijah has been ascended up and now Elisha is basically the prophet in Israel.
Now, Elisha now has a double Elijah. You got to read about Elijah.

(02:40):
Elijah was man, like Elijah was a G.
Okay. Just hands down a G. So Elisha has a double portion of this.
And I think that this is important to share because Because the servant said
to the king of Aram, it's not any of us that's doing this, right?

(03:02):
It is, you know, Elisha, the prophet in Israel, he can hear the words in your bedroom.
So that's why I'm saying, like, you got to understand Elisha and what his anointing was, right?
So the role of the prophet, and that's then and now, is the prophet teaches
truth and interprets the word of God.
He calls the unrighteous to repentance. incense, he receives revelations and

(03:25):
directions from the Lord for our benefit.
So that's the role of the prophet. So even back then, even now, right?
Some of us operate in either the office of a prophet or we have the spirit of
prophecy, but the role of the prophet is to edify the body of Christ, right?
It may look in different ways.
The king of Aram is at war against Israel.

(03:48):
And he's saying, we're going to go here. He's directing his camp to go specific places.
What he doesn't know is that the king of Israel has the prophet Elisha.
However, this is why I'm giving you the background of Elisha and the role of the prophet.
There are many times in the Bible where the prophet will come and speak a word

(04:09):
and the king or whoever will not listen.
Because sometimes these words are not good, right? And even if you read in 1
Kings, you'll see with Elijah, Elijah was talking to King Ahab and trying to
tell him to do different things and he would or wouldn't.
And King Ahab was married to Jezebel.

(04:30):
That's a whole nother story. But the King of Israel at this time listened to
Elisha and therefore did what Elisha said.
Remember I told you the role of the prophet, he receives revelations and directions
from the Lord for our benefit, our benefit, right?
And so Elisha shared with him, don't go down here because the king of Aram is

(04:54):
going to be going down here.
So the king of Israel at that time listened to the prophet Elisha and obeyed, right?
And because he obeyed, the king of Aram was in rage.
He is hotter than fish grease right now because he's like, what the heck?
He think he's He's being crafty and he is trying to figure out like somebody

(05:17):
on our team must be sharing trade secrets.
One of his servants was like, no, my Lord, the King, Elisha,
the prophet of Israel tells the King of Israel, the very words you speak in your bedroom.
And I know this always stands out to me because it just talks about how one, how omnipresent God is,

(05:40):
but how God can give you revelation and give us insight into things we would not know, right?
We would not in any other circumstances know.
He can share with you people's motives.
He can share with you the things that they may not ever verbally say to you

(06:01):
or even in your presence or to anyone that you may know.
He can give insight around this. But I will warn, I want to make sure I am warning
us, is a lot of times we can project what we think people are thinking about us.
And it can be a fine line because you feel like God is sharing something with you.
And a lot of times that is our triggers and not the Lord. I'm going to say that again.

(06:24):
A lot of times it is our triggers and not the Lord. We are triggered and we're
projected and that's not God.
And so I would just encourage you to hear from the Lord and test the spirit by the spirit, right?
If God is sharing sharing something with you that you feel like is something divine.
Again, especially when we're talking about people's motives and their actions

(06:47):
and why they're doing something and things that they're going to do, like check that, right?
Because Elisha was submitted under God.
He has now a double portion of this and it can feel like, and that is a powerful gift.
That's a gift from God. But check that. We need to check our triggers.

(07:08):
We need to check our projections, actions through a self-evaluation of ourselves
and what we think of ourselves and what we think of other people.
That's a whole nother thing, right?
So in verse 13, it says, so the king said, go and see where he is that I may send men to capture him.
Now, the funny thing is, and we're going to go through this in the next two episodes.

(07:28):
But the funny thing is, it's like, really, sir, if he can hear what you're saying
in your bedroom, why in the world do you think he's not going to hear and see
that you're coming to capture him?
Right. But I say that to say is a lot of times people are not thinking and they
will do things and execute things.

(07:50):
And you can see how foolish it is. Like I'm saying this and I'm like, that is very foolish.
If you're sitting in the role of Elisha, you're thinking that's very foolish.
But a lot of times people do not understand.
Like they, sometimes a spirit of folly will fall on people and they will do
and say foolish things and they don't necessarily realize how foolish they are.

(08:11):
Right. But again, I think it's one of those things where we have to just be
sure that God is one speaking to us, but understand that God can speak to you.
He can show you things that you can never imagine.
He can provide you with insight that you, again, like he said to Peter,
he said, this was only revealed to you from God.

(08:32):
And that means only God could have shared this with you.
So I just pray for you right now that God will give you revelation,
that you will test the spirit by the spirit, that you will tune in and hear
what thus saith the Lord, and that you, if you're the king of Israel,
that you will listen to what the prophet is saying.
The prophet comes to teach, to warn, interpret the word of God.

(08:55):
He calls the unrighteous to repentance and receives revelation and direction
from the Lord for our benefit.
So in Jesus name, I just pray that you hear what thus saith the Lord.
And you execute on their word. All right, this is the end of part one of Surrounded,
and I'll see you next time for part two.
