(00:10):
welcome to.
I am your host.
Naomi K thank you for listening,
but speak thou the things which become sound doctrine that the aged men be sober,
grave,
temperate sound and faith and charity and patience,
(00:31):
the aged women.
Likewise,
that they be in behavior as becoming holiness not false accusers,
not given to much wine,
teachers of good things,
that they may teach the young women to be sober,
to love their husbands to love their Children to be discreet.
Chase keepers at home,
(00:53):
good obedient to their own husbands,
that the word of God be not blasphemed!
The young men likewise exhort to be sober minded,
and all things,
showing thyself a pattern of good works and doctrine showing un corruptness,
gravity,
sincerity,
sound speech,
(01:14):
that cannot be condemned,
that he,
that is of the contrary part,
may be ashamed having no evil thing to say of you.
I was 19 years old when I landed a position at a Fortune 500 company.
It was my first corporate job,
and I felt like a true professional,
(01:35):
and not that I didn't feel like a professional at my previous jobs,
because God truly blessed me at a young age to be employed at some great companies.
But this was the job where I had to dress up and wear corporate clothing,
like a suit pantyhose and some loafers and Mary James.
I was so proud of myself,
and also at the same time I had just purchased my first vehicle by myself and my first solo apartment.
(02:00):
I was living the young single professional life.
And although I wasn't a millionaire during that time,
some of my peers probably would have called me blessed well one day after months of strict dieting and working out to get my body in shape,
I was finally able to fit into some of the cute suits that I had bought and stuffed in the back of my closet and there was this particular one that I wanted to wear with,
(02:27):
some shoes that I was dying to pair with it,
but needed the perfect outfit to wear with it.
You know how we do?
Sometimes when we're out shopping we will find a pair of shoes that are absolutely amazing.
But on that same shopping trip we can't find the perfect outfit to go with it.
So we'll buy the shoes,
take them home and wait to find the perfect outfit to wear with it and then wear the outfit together.
(02:50):
Well,
this was one of those cases.
Well I put my little ensemble on and everything fit perfect.
The outfit was a true match to my newly worked out physique and the shoes were the perfect color for the outfit.
Um it just went well and I received so many compliments that they did.
I remember smiling on the inside and feeling so proud of myself for hitting my goal weight and fitting into this slim fitting suit.
(03:17):
I felt like I had a little extra pep in my step that day whenever I got up to walk up and down the hallway through the office,
speaking of which,
that same day I had to work with another department.
So I had been walking back and forth all day between my department and the other department,
dropping off paperwork,
processed paperwork from one desk and picking up more work to take to my desk on the way back to my desk from one of those runs,
(03:44):
one of the older women in the office stepped out of her cubicle.
She was one of the nicest people you could ever make acquaintance with.
I mean just downright kind and benevolent well.
She stepped out in front of me and stopped me cold in my tracks and she said to me,
lift up your head and when I did,
she said now your confidence matches your outfit.
(04:06):
Beautiful.
I could cry just thinking about that moment because what this amazing woman said to me and what she did for me in that moment changed my life.
Although I was a young professional woman emerging from a mediocre lifestyle to that of a successful one.
I had a problem.
I was spending my day watching shoes young saved and somewhat fearless,
(04:33):
but I was watching shoes.
Now I know you're probably thinking what does watching shoes really mean?
I held my head down when I walked because I was struggling with low self esteem and I had no idea I was masking it very well.
I used the excuse of people watching or watching people's shoes as they walked by to keep from admitting that it was an issue.
(04:56):
And it wasn't until that very moment when this wonderful woman corrected my posture,
that I realized that I didn't really like people's shoes,
but I was watching them because I lacked the confidence to look them in the eyes.
And what was shocking to me in that moment as well is that I've always been this bubbly outgoing person who could make friends with anyone.
(05:17):
But I guess that was the way I covered the struggle.
Your body's posture tells a lot about the state of your heart.
I remember reading an article written by a biblical educator or writer at a well known bible institute who wrote about the significance of different postures of the body.
He was answering the question about how we should posture ourselves when communicating with God.
(05:43):
Some believers kneel before God because they believe kneeling is a greater expression of humility.
Some believers lay prostrate because they believe lying,
prostrate before God expresses total surrender.
The writer makes it clear that although kneeling and lying prostrate are honorable positions,
(06:04):
a specific physical position isn't always required whenever we want to communicate with God.
Now I know that he's talking about prayer in this article,
but the writer makes another statement about body posturing that speaks to what I'm sharing with you all today.
He said body postures given expression to the attitudes of the heart.
(06:26):
Watching shoes was an expression of the attitude of my heart.
I mentioned in a previous podcast about experiencing a father fracture amid other childhood struggles that attacked my confidence and self esteem in certain areas of my life and as a result of those experiences or as a response,
(06:48):
I either overcompensated with certain gifts or I became a master at disguising hurt.
But what matters is how God brought the healing in titus two.
The bible speaks about how leaders in the body of christ should behave and carry themselves so that they would be an example to the younger believers.
(07:08):
It goes on to say that leaders,
both men and women should be temperate meaning they should have self control,
they should be sober and sound in faith,
meaning well grounded in the gospel and they should be sound in charity and patience.
But the verse in this chapter that speaks directly to my healing,
that happened in the moment with this amazing woman is verse four.
(07:30):
It says that the reason the older women in the church should be sound in faith,
patience and love is because when they have grown and mastered these areas with the help of the Holy Spirit,
then they are needed to teach the younger women in the church.
Those same principles.
The end result of that teaching is healthier young marriages and families in the church.
(07:54):
Young women who operate with integrity in their relationships and their sexuality.
But most importantly,
young women who walk out this life with stability in their mental health,
because they've been taught that this type of balance in your life comes from having a relationship with God through jesus christ.
When this elder woman lifted my head,
(08:16):
she lifted my whole life,
I believe her approach was ordained by God.
And the few words that she spoke in that moment were prophetic.
God used her to help me face what I had been masking and what I was masking was keeping God away from lifting my head and psalm three,
David was praising God through some serious tribulation.
(08:38):
His list of enemies was increasing and those who should have been helping him,
we're telling him that God had forsaken him.
Then in first three,
David says,
but you o Lord are a shield for me,
my glory and the lifter of my head to lift someone's head means to hold them in high regard and to think highly of them.
(09:02):
In David's case,
God was lifting him to victory over those who had made themselves an enemy of him.
But for God to do that for David meant that he thought highly of him.
In my moment of deliverance.
God used another leader in ministry to mimic his love for me by lifting up my head.
God wanted me to know that he thought highly of me and wanted me to be made whole.
(09:28):
There was a shift in my emotional well being,
psychological well being and social well being because of what God did in that moment he brought wholeness.
The beautiful part is that this woman of God was obedient and moved when the Holy Spirit nudged her to do so and God moved through her with consideration to the environment around the both of us.
(09:52):
Religion isn't highly suggested or respected in most corporate workplaces,
so there wasn't any formal laying on of hands,
anointing my head and praying over me just her actions and her words from this seasoned woman in the Gospel set my deliverance in motion.
We need each other in ministry.
(10:13):
Young leaders in the Gospel lean on the elder leaders for wisdom and the elder leaders need willing vessels to impart purpose so that the Gospel of Salvation flows from generation to generation,
reaching souls for the kingdom of God.
The next time you see your brother or sister watching your shoes lift up their head and remind them who they are in the Kingdom of God.
(10:41):
Thank you for listening.
