(00:13):
I am your host,
Naomi Kay.
Thank you for listening.
My son.
If thou wilt,
receive my words and hide my commandments with thee so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom and apply thine heart to understanding.
Yes.
If thou Christ after knowledge and lifted up thy voice for understanding.
(00:38):
If thou see kissed her as silver and searches her as for hid treasure,
then shall thou understand the fear of the Lord and find knowledge of God.
We all have an idea of what we'd like to do with our time here on earth.
And sometimes those ideas and plans that we set up for our life will go as we'd hoped.
(01:03):
And sometimes those ideas and plans that we set up fail.
And when they do fail,
we're left sometimes with a void or an emptiness as if we have missed the bigger picture for our lives.
CS Lewis who was a writer and a theologian said one of the biggest questions in life is not what is my purpose for this life,
(01:28):
but what is God's purpose for my life?
And today I wanna talk to you about discovering God's will for your life.
Let me say this first God is not regimented to any of our five step plans or 10 step plans or any of our how tos on discovering who He is.
(01:50):
He says in Isaiah 55 8 and nine,
for my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways.
My ways says the Lord for as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
There is no multi step plan for discovering the will of God for your life.
(02:15):
However,
God has given us a book of principles called the Bible that we can dig into search His promises to look for what he would have us to do with our time here on earth.
And that's what I wanna talk to you about today.
Let's start by going back and looking at Exodus 20 verses one through 17.
(02:41):
I believe there's a very important foundation right there in those verses that tell us or at least get us started on discovering the will of God for our time here in this earth.
And God speak all these words to the Children of Israel saying I am the Lord thy God,
which have brought the out of the land of Egypt and out of the house of bondage,
(03:05):
thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make any graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is in earth beneath or that is in water or that is on the earth,
thou shalt not bow down thyself to serve them in any way.
For I the Lord,
(03:26):
your God and a jealous God visiting the iniquity of thy fathers upon their Children onto the 3rd and 4th generation of them that hate me and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord God in vain for the Lord God will not hold him guiltless.
(03:51):
That has taken his name in vain.
Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy honor thy mother and thy father that thy days may be long up on the land which the Lord has given thee.
Thou shalt not kill,
thou shalt not commit adultery,
thou shalt not steal,
(04:13):
thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor and thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house.
Now,
I know you're thinking,
why are we going all the way back to the Old Testament and reading the 10 commandments to discover any part of God's will for our lives?
(04:34):
Well,
the 10 commandments were a part of one of God's original covenants for man.
It was a covenant that truly established a relationship with man because it told us who God was and what he expected of us and our relationship with Him because that's what a covenant is.
(04:57):
A covenant is a marriage between two people.
It's God's way of saying if you love me,
then here's what I expect of you,
which is the same with any marriage covenant.
Before you go into a marriage with someone,
you sit down and you discuss your expectations in marriage counseling.
You tell the person who you plan to spend the rest of your life with what you expect of them in the marriage.
(05:23):
And that's what God is doing here with the Israelites in the 10 commandments.
He is letting them know what He expects of them in this covenant with him.
And getting to know God through His commandments,
makes our hearts and our ears sensitive to the wisdom that we need to understand His will for our time and our life here on earth.
(05:48):
Verse two of Proverbs two says so that you incline thine ear to wisdom.
The word incline comes from the word.
And it basically means to pay attention to what God is saying and take heed to what God is saying and be willing and ready to do what he asks you to do.
(06:08):
In short,
you need to learn God's voice and that comes through the Holy Spirit living on the inside of you.
Jesus said in John 14 26.
But the comforter which is the holy ghost whom the Father will send in my name.
He will teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you,
(06:31):
the Holy Spirit is God's voice and from a theological point of view.
The Holy Spirit makes God personal in your life or in the life of a believer.
He is that being that lives on the inside of you and does the work of righteousness on the inside of you.
The Holy Spirit searches you.
(06:51):
He intercedes for you,
he guides you and he teaches you giving you understanding of God's word.
It is through the Holy Spirit who is a reveal that the believer gains wisdom.
And it's by the Holy Spirit that the believer gains knowledge of his or her spiritual gifting.
(07:12):
The scripture goes on to say,
and that you would set your heart for a life of understanding that means to position or posture your heart for discernment.
You need to be able to judge when the Holy Spirit is giving you direction for the rest of your life.
Your attitude should always be,
I need to know what God is saying to me through His word.
(07:35):
And I need to know what God is asking of me through His word for every aspect of my life.
Ask God verse three says to cry out to God for knowledge and understanding.
That means to ask God about the plans He has for your life and to press him until you get an answer.
(07:58):
As I mentioned before,
part of the work of the Holy Spirit in our life is to make intercession between us and God.
And when we don't understand how or what to pray to God when we are in need of an answer,
especially concerning what we should be doing with our lives here on earth.
It is the Holy Spirit that goes before the throne of God and makes intercession for us.
(08:21):
He groans for us.
He pleads with God until he gets an answer.
And then the Holy Spirit reveals to us according to God's will for us,
the plan and the purpose that He would have for us.
First Corinthians 12 verses four through 11 says that everyone is given something special to you that shows who God is in their life.
(08:44):
And starting at the fourth verse,
it says now there are diversities of gifts,
but the same spirit and there are differences of administrations,
but the same Lord and there are diversities of operations.
But it is the same God which worketh all in all.
But the manifestation of the spirit is given to every man to profit with all for to one is given by the spirit,
(09:09):
the word of wisdom,
to another,
the word of knowledge by the same spirit,
to another faith,
by the same spirit,
to another,
the gifts of healing,
by the same spirit,
to another,
the working of miracles,
to another prophecy,
to another discerning of spirits,
to another diverse kinds of tongues and to another,
(09:33):
the interpretation of tongues.
But all these worketh that one and the self,
same spirit dividing to every man severally as He will,
God has placed spiritual gifting on the inside of all of us.
But it is our job to seek him through His word,
(09:55):
to ask for the revelation of what that is.
God has also given every man on this earth natural abilities.
But it is our job to seek him through His word with the help of the Holy Spirit to discover how to use that gifting for his glory,
(10:16):
the fear of God.
And I'm sure you've heard this passage from Proverbs nine,
probably a million times if you are a believer.
But it basically says the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and the fear of God leads us to the knowledge of His will for our lives.
And the word fear or fear of God has everything to do with reverence and not worry and anxiousness.
(10:43):
When you consider God and everything He has sacrificed to be in a relationship with you and to be a part of your life,
you shouldn't have any unpleasant emotions or thoughts toward Him.
You know,
he says he has not given us a spirit of fear,
but of love,
joy and of a sound mind and fearing God just means reverencing Him.
(11:06):
It means honoring the sacrifice that He's made for you by giving you the free gift of salvation through the death,
burial and resurrection of His son.
It means to honor that He wants to be a part of your life.
And because you get to be in a relationship with God.
You recognize that there are things that you cannot keep in your life.
There are sins that you cannot commit.
(11:28):
There are places that you cannot go because they don't bring honor to God.
They don't reverence Him.
It doesn't cause your life to honor Him or to reverence Him.
That's the fear of God.
When we develop a reverential fear of God,
that reverential fear matures into trust for God.
(11:50):
And when we trust God,
we get to find out from Him through the Holy Spirit,
what his will is for our lives and part of that will is salvation.
When we receive the free gift of salvation,
we also receive the commission to finish the work of evangelism here on earth with the help of the Holy Spirit.
(12:13):
And as we dedicate our natural abilities to God,
he will use them for His glory and show you how to occupy in the earth until Christ returns.
Thank you for listening.
