Episode 4: An Education for Life (Part 1)

Guest: Tier Blundell

 

In our 4th episode of The Bounce Mindset, our host Rebecca Mander is joined by Tier Blundell, whose choices following a heart-breaking childhood determined the man he is today.

 

I first heard Tier’s story on Radio 4 as part of the ‘Life Changing’ series and I was hooked and therefore delighted to hear that he would share his story, in even more detail with me!

Tier was so generous with his story we have shared it over two parts! From early experiences of racial abuse at school and at home, Tier felt uncared for and as part of a broken system was expelled from main stream education. He lacked any qualifications at the age of 26 despite his interest in learning. Tier shares how his determination to move from the victim to victor space at an early age formed the person that he would fight to become.

• There is ALWAYS a choice!

Several times in this inspiring episode, Tier shows the choice between victim and victor. Often resulting in more trouble for Tier but always showing grit, he pushed through until his choices were less about punishing others, and more about rewarding himself with the education he deserved.

 

• When was the “Bounce” Moment?

Funnily enough, working as a bouncer was when Tier had his “Bounce Moment”

but there had been many beforehand. Tier shares how the messages we receive in childhood, good or bad, impact us as we grow older.

 

• If you work hard you can be anything you want to be! Finding acceptance and encouragement in the world of MMA opened a new world of opportunity and learning for Tier. Coming out of his comfort zone and embracing the fear of failure was the key to Tier’s incredible turnaround!
