from cool hand electric he is a pre-qualified home
service professional at Check A Pro Luke how are you doing great doing great
how are you i am living the dream thank you so much for joining me here on the

(00:25):
program a question i I love to ask our home service professionals at Check A Pro is what is your why?
What gets you and your team out of bed every day at Cool Hand Electric to do
what you guys do to serve the customer and the community?
Yeah. No, thanks for asking that.

(00:48):
That's something I'm passionate about um being in
the trade is is tough you're in service work
you have you know normally it's a bad situation
powers out or you know something's hard you're crawling through attics or what
have you very hot in Texas obviously um so it's not the easiest um gig and um

(01:08):
i love being a tradesman but it is difficult so you do have to have some sort
of um something that kind of drives you to do that consistently.
And for me personally, I wanted to get married to my wife right out of high
school and my father-in-law and my dad said, hey, you got to have a career path.

(01:30):
So learned the trade and started going to trade school, had the desire to start my own business.
When I got my master's license, opened up the business and did all the common mistakes,
didn't collect properly, document things properly, didn't get paid properly,
and was taking loans to pay my helpers and just all the classic tradesmen type of mistakes.

(01:55):
And so I was really good at the technical side, but not the business side.
So I took an industrial maintenance manager job and still had the business and
worked in the evening some.
But during that timeframe, I was able to learn management.
I was able to learn business, accounting, sales, marketing, those type of things.

(02:17):
And I also became more involved in my church and became a worship leader there.
Some people at my church supported a ministry called First Look,
and they give moms and dads the first look of their baby and good medical care.
It's an awesome facility. This is them right there. They raise money for moms and dads.

(02:43):
It's a great facility. So anyways, I realized I wanted to, I got really passionate
about what they did for our community, um, for, for various personal reasons, but, um, they, they,
They got me excited and I was like, man, how can I support this?
And I realized if I just became a good business person as a company,

(03:04):
you can give a whole lot more to a cause that you're passionate about than you can as an individual.
So the people that work for me are all on the same page.
They all really love what First Look stands for and just tries to give his mom
and dad's hope and helps them have a, if they go to a budgeting class,

(03:24):
if they go to a parenting class, if they go to any type of class,
they earn formula, they earn diapers, they earn baby clothes,
they earn all sorts of stuff to really help them and encourage them along the way to be a good parent.
It's a phenomenal ministry. industry. So our company, we give 10% of our profit

(03:44):
to First Look and all of our team members love that.
And so we get mailing from them to see how many moms chose life and it's exciting.
So that's something I'm personally passionate about and that when it's hot or
people have no power or it's Saturday or really late at night and you got to
get things done, that helps give that little extra push to get it going.

(04:05):
Luke, that is an awesome answer to the why question, which I ask all of our
home service professionals at Check A Pro.
I'm glad it's not all about the money. That's important because a profitable
company can continue to give back to the community.
So that is critical. But I love your answer.

(04:26):
Love what you guys do. Thank you so much for joining me here on Check A Pro
Radio today. I really appreciate it, Luke. God bless.
