San Diego, CA (For Release) - San Diego 48-Hour Film Project City Co-Producers Chrissy Raven Kilna and Kilna Anthony join host David Kamatoy on the DavidKamatoy.com Show to preview the 2025 competition. The pair, who have been involved with the Project more than a decade as participants and more recently as producers, took time from their busy schedule to share some history and tips on how to make a successful film. This year the competition will kick off Friday, August 15, from 4:30-7:00 p.m., at Spark Studio Soundstage in San Diego.
Often known unofficially as “The 48,” it is the world's largest, longest running, and most popular timed filmmaking competition, with organizations in more than 100 cities around the world. Over a weekend, teams of writers, actors, camera operators, producers, and more compete to make a short film in just two days. The Project draws a wide range of teams and members, from first-time amateurs to veteran independent producers, to well-known professionals.
Two important features make the 48-Hour Film Project unique and an important stepping stone for amateur filmmakers. The first feature is that the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) provides a waiver for the project so that union actors can participate without the filmmaker needing to pay union wages or go through standard union regulations. Additionally, it is one of the few festivals that gives an IMDb listing.
“The 48 is a great playfield leveler,” says Kilna Anthony, “in the sense that it is an all-volunteer effort. You know for at least that one gig it’s gonna be everyone’s putting in their blood, sweat, and tears just for the love of it.”
“Also, what’s great about it is we see film teams doing it repeatedly,” adds Chrissy Raven, “getting better and better as time goes on.”

Several teams are currently looking for additional members, and anyone interested should attend the kickoff at Spark Studio Soundstage, located at 8283 Ronson Rd, San Diego, 92111.
