Desire is one of Bob Dylan's most fascinating records. It deviates significantly from any of his previous albums in more ways than one. Blood on the Tracks, for example, was a memorial to personal and romantic trauma that traced an outline around a generation who prized individual freedoms to the point of self-annihilating alienation, whereas Desire is about getting stoned and strange and trying to forget all of that.
