Emory News: Affordable Housing for Healthcare Workers, Top Doctors, Student Awards, Palliative Care Tool, and Emory Night at Atlanta United

Hello, Emory community! It's Monday, July 21, 2025, and here's your latest campus news. Emory University has announced plans to redevelop a former auto garage and homeless shelter on Peachtree Street into over 50 competitively priced apartments for health care workers at Emory Midtown. This initiative aims to support nurses and technicians who are increasingly priced out of downtown Atlanta, while preserving much of the historic site's architecture. The project is in its early stages, with details on housing eligibility and accommodations for families yet to be finalized. Congratulations to The Emory Wheel, our student-run campus newspaper, which has been named the best in the country by the Society of Professional Journalists. This recognition highlights the dedication and talent of our student journalists. Seventy-three physicians from the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University have been selected by their peers as "Top Doctors" in Atlanta magazine's 2025 list. These physicians represent 31 specialties and provide cancer care across 10 campuses throughout the Atlanta area. Winship Cancer Institute has developed "More Access to Palliative Care Georgia," a user-friendly web tool designed to help patients, families, and referring physicians locate nearby palliative care services. This initiative aims to improve statewide access and highlight underserved areas. Emory College graduate Tuan Vinh has been selected as an NIH Oxford-Cambridge Scholar. He will study genomics and predictive modeling, furthering Emory's commitment to advancing research in these critical fields. Celebrate Emory Night with Atlanta United FC on Saturday, July 19. The festivities begin with a complimentary tailgate at 5:30 p.m. in the Home Depot Backyard, followed by the game at 7:30 p.m. against Charlotte FC.
