(00:00):
Can we say a picture? Hello? Hey.

(00:06):
Nice and in time and today.
You bet.
We are being filled.
Visual.
We're watching h watching you.
It's always Halloween.
No, we are not watching them.
They're watching us.
No, we're watching them.
We've got a live feed of you right now.
Welcome to the Fat Salad podcast.

(00:30):
We're getting That was, that was pretty good though.
That was, we always do it better when people watch.
We do.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Everyone says you're a bit of a, a watcher yourself.
I've seen a couple of things in my time.
What were the, if you could narrow down your favorite things that you've seen, would you say, say top two things you've seen one of the.

(00:51):
So one of the best things I ever saw was this man with long hair, right? And he had sandals and he used to wear like this white robe.
Anyway, he walked across water.
You saw Jesus Zeus.
Jesus Zeus.
Yeah.
Right before, well, I think it was during, when he was doing his, um, rap video.
And then, so he walked across this water and he was spitting bars and it was lit, man.

(01:13):
Was it Drake? Did you, were you watching Drake? No.
Who was it? Hey, Jay Zoo.
Oh, Jay Zoo.
Jay Zoos.
Yeah.
Alright.
What would your second contender for Best thing Scene ever.
I got to see, do you remember the Cadbury's advert? Mm-hmm.
The gorilla? Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
I got to see him do that drum feel.
You live in the flesh.
It was bonkers.

(01:34):
How did you, how did you learn that gig? Uh, I am best friends with Teddy Cadbury who invented.
Um, Cadbury Chocolate.
Didn't he invent that back in like 1679? Oh, sorry.
Just wanna poke that little hole into the, I, I called Teddy 'cause Teddy's named after his great-great-great grandfather Cadbury.

(01:58):
Ah, but yeah, we go way back.
We go way back.
Nice.
Saved there.
Yeah.
What is your favorite kind of chocolate on a, on a serious note? 'cause Cadbury's gotta be up there now that we're talking about it.
Um, you know, I was thinking about chocolate the other day.
Like, what in the hell is it made out of? Like, what, what is it? It's just cacao substance and milk and sugar.

(02:19):
Yeah.
But it is not just that is it, mate? It's, it's pretty much that.
No, it's, it's like, I dunno, cornflakes, no one truly knows how they're made or where they come from.
Corn.
We're just stuck with them.
It's clearly corn.
Corn flakes.
Isn't corn here it is.
No it's not.
It looks like little bits of moon surface.
Why did corn mints call themselves corn? Because not everyone thinks they're made of corn.

(02:42):
Corn.
You know who corn? The fungus Mints.
Oh yeah.
That you love, you eat that all the time.
I'm a bit of a Elliot's, actually an ambassador of corn.
He's recently been sponsored, well, they actually call us Corn con koon.
Elliot's actually been voted for vegan Queen of the Year.
And, uh, corn are sponsoring everything.
So, um, yeah, send us Toko and Elliot would love some more corn mints.

(03:06):
Yeah, send corn to Big Ben.
Oh, we are in the top of Big Ben, by the way.
We are.
I bet you didn't think it looked like this.
No, we, we, we thought we'd decorate.
So we've got.
A plant.
Yeah.
Um, you stole that from, um, where's the, where's the queen live or where did she fucking palace? Yeah.
Yeah.
You stole it from fucking palace.
It's probably my worst lie ever.

(03:26):
You struggled so hard with that.
Oh, I knew it was a big house.
I just forgot which one.
Yeah.
Right.
Okay.
How many big houses did you knock at until.
You found Buckingham Palace then, I dunno.
You found it.
You told me that's where you got that from.
We gotta give it back later.
Oh yeah, yeah.
We borrowed a plant.
Ah, yeah.
Happens.
Yeah.
Right.
I've got a few questions for you actually.

(03:48):
Yeah.
Go hit me.
So I thought we could go down a little bit more of the musical route, considering most weeks you sit there and chat utter horse shit while I try and dissect the things that you say.
Um, but I just thought we'd have a bit of a refresh about what we're doing.
Hang about.
Can we just talk about what's on your head at a minute? The goggles.

(04:10):
The goggles? Yeah.
My nighttime glasses.
Okay.
Right.
Have you not, you've got a pair, haven't you? Yeah, but I don't wear them on the pod.
No.
They're nighttime glasses and they actually, uh, they're red light glasses.
You called them stupid.
Then I had some and then they make you fall asleep.
Really? That's why I don't wear them.
Yep.
Pretty much.
You just, the podcast just got 50% better.
Yeah.

(04:30):
Oh, right.
Yeah, yeah.
You do, you do bring a I did that.
But you do bring a millhouse vibe to the, uh, situation, don't we are at high altitude and Big Bend.
So there's a high, high chance of nosebleed right now.
Yeah.
Um, we're actually placing bets on what minute Aiden's gonna get a nosebleed.
Jamie.
Jamie, please be on standby with tissues.

(04:50):
Um, there may be blood.
Um, get the soft ones 'cause his nose is dead.
We'll have to do a blood disclaimer on the, at the start of this, like, you know, anyone that's worried about, scared about blood and stuff.
Okay.
I'm gonna put a picture of Millhouse as the thumbnail right.
Going into, yeah.
Talk to me about musics man going into musics.
Um, what I wanted to discuss is obviously, uh, we are up to some things at the weekend as a band.

(05:15):
Do you wanna go into what we're currently working on? A little bit.
Um, what kind of overall idea is and everything you are kind of excited about.
Um, I'm excited about life, man.
I'm excited about just everything happening all at once.
Um, if you are excited about everything.
Doesn't that kind of level out to be like, no excitement.

(05:37):
No you, 'cause you're just constantly ecstatic.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
You dunno what my brain's like.
It's like a party 24 7.
I do know what your brain's like every 10 seconds, everyone's got a party popper and one of those long things that goes, p you must get nothing done.
I get everything done, man.
You're just constantly shocked because people are popping balloons.
Uh, this weekend we started tracking the guitars and bass for.

(05:59):
Our debut ep.
Um, do we want to talk about what tracks are gonna be on there? Our debut? Uh, we've actually mentioned one already.
Um, so the track list is gonna be, we dunno the audio yet, but it's gonna be Holes.
Lost it for a minute.
It doesn't sound anything like that.
Take the time.
It's quite similar to that.
And 23 our biggest number and 23 is our biggest number.

(06:23):
Yeah.
What are you looking at? The cat might fall out the window.
No, the window's closed.
Oh, is it? Okay.
Mainly.
But the cat did almost fall out.
A big bed.
The cat almost fell out.
A big bed.
Ben, he's a black cat on the top of big pen.
Please let us know, please.
Yeah, we we're missing back.
Yeah, we put a cat flap where the clock is.

(06:45):
It's turned out to be a huge mistake.
So out, out of those songs that we're working on, um, what one can you kind of see being the next big hit? So like someone that's listening when it comes out watching.
Listening to the ep.
Oh, right.
Yeah.
When someone's listening, when that EP comes out, what one to kind of keep an eye out for? Obviously we are excited about 23.

(07:09):
That's always been 1 0 4.
It's fun to play, but No, you know about, there's got, let's start.
I think holes have lost it for the minute are gonna be the ones that just really open up your waffle stumper.
Yeah.
And, uh, blow some, make your jam flow, if you know what I'm saying.
Yeah.
'cause uh.
They're different for us, but I think they're bangers and I think it's a, a unique direction we've opened up.

(07:33):
Um, I think it's something different, I think in, in our last tracks, and it's also really nice for us as, uh, the writers to kind of make that progression from, um, like being able to acknowledge that, you know, you're making improvements from the last things we've written.
Um, obviously we were excited about, uh, she seems to know, um, ecstasy, but it feels like we've kind of stepped, taken a step into a complete new direction.

(07:56):
Um, and yeah, it's exciting.
Definitely.
I feel like there's essences of kings of Leon and bands like that in, in the way we're writing and, uh, I'm, I'm, I'm pretty damn buzz to, to get 'em out.
I think if I've got a name one that you should keep your eye out of, out, out for it should be lost it for a minute.
Um, for sure.
I think Burn.
We played that burn.

(08:17):
It doesn't go like burn.
It does go like burn.
Um, yeah, that's what we played it at the live show.
I forgot my guitar, so I just did that.
That was right.
I, I literally had about five or six people come up to me after the show and be like, what was that first song you guys played? Only five or six.
Yeah, I had seven.
You had seven.
That sucks for you.
Yeah.
Um, no.

(08:38):
I think the words we're skirting around is we've matured.
We have, and so it used to be like a mild little fetter in the salad.
It's, and now we've got stoning, mature cheddar, stilton, maybe.
Um, or What's Jamie? Jamie? What's the, what's the strongest cheese going, Jamie? He doesn't know.

(09:01):
He doesn't know.
WiFi's down.
WiFi's down.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They put cheese blockers on intelligent.
He just searches a lot of things up.
So yeah, they put cheese blockers on.
Yeah, they nice.
Yeah.
What my block of cheeses now? I thought it was quite good.
Well, yeah, you didn't mean to, you didn't even know you made that joke.
Sometimes.

(09:22):
My comedic genius weaves webs that I can't even comprehend.
You need to just start whatever you're doing.
Get your troll hands off of me.
Um.
Okay.
On that note, I've been listening to a plethora of new music recently, and I am sorry.
Who are you? I'm reinspired by a few new, new bands.

(09:45):
Like recently, I think there's a period where I'm listening to a lot of music, but nothing's really gripping me.
But there's been a few like artists that I've kind of been listening to lot more recently.
Oh, I'm quite excited about the clamps.
Is there anything that you are kind of, um, no yourself, like when you're practicing, when you're writing these new riffs that you are kind of, um, getting inspired by at the moment? Um, and you can, you can go back to old classics if that's where you are.

(10:09):
Kind of getting your Johnny Mar inspiration for Johnny Mars beating in my head a lot.
Um, his solo stuff, not the stuff with the Smiths, although I do like the stuff with Smiths.
Would you, why do you prefer his solo stuff? Um, I think double deck.

(10:30):
Your side.
Such, such a heavily weight is mine.
Is that, I dunno, it's one of those.
There is a light and it never goes out.
Have you seen the um, Harry Hilden impression of Morrisey? No.
It's it good? Yeah, it's, it is actually basically just morrisey.
It's quite boring actually.
It's almost too, yeah, it was like, forgot where Harry.

(10:52):
Um, yeah.
So Jo, Johnny Ma.
Johnny Ma.
Yeah.
Just, um, the way he hears music, um, and like plays.
How do you know how he hears music? Because the way he plays man.
But that's the way you hear him play plays the way he grooves, the way he picks apart chords and stuff, and like, finds melody.
I find it.
Um, yeah.

(11:13):
Well, I'm just digging it right now.
Is that, would that be, would you say that's your biggest, biggest inspiration? Uh, I, I don't think so.
I've been, um.
Who else have I been vibing with? It is interesting that you say that 'cause I haven't heard specific bits of your playing, I think would remind me of that kind of style.
But maybe I just, yeah.
But this always happens.
Like something will be immediately integrate a lot of this time.

(11:37):
I think, I actually think that's a, a big problem if, if you, you are inspired by something you've written, something that's.
Of that ilk that you're inspired by and you take it to the band and then you try too hard to cram your inspiration in that.
I think.
I think on, on Dr.
Barking.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The dogs, the hounds of Big Ben.

(11:58):
I think on, on my, I think you set yourself up for failure if you do that.
I think I agree and I disagree.
'cause I agree in the fact that I, what I really like to see is when I'm really inspired by a new band, like for example, I've been, I say a new band, like I've been listening to a lot of old Oasis stuff.
Um, just 'cause their riffs are so damn good.
Their totally are great.
Yeah.
They're quite fresh, aren't they? Yeah.
Brand new.
Where did you Yeah, they, I did just say, because you were just like in the corner of this like, crazy little record store.

(12:22):
I know.
And, and you were like, whoa.
Like, I've got a good feeling about this.
I just, I've never heard of them, but I think it's gonna be good.
A lot of people, um, Oasis to be honest.
Did you? Yeah.
Yeah, I was Did you show them an oasis or did you show them oasis? Bits of both.
Um, but yeah, no, what, what I wanted to, the point I wanted to make there was.
Um, I think it's quite a good thing to take away.

(12:44):
Like say you've maybe write something in like saying the same ilk as another band, but then you quickly apply it.
I, I like doing that 'cause then I can learn how they write.
So not that you'd use that song, or maybe you would, maybe you take it to the band, you completely turn it, yeah.
You put it in their fat side blender and then you come out with something else.
But I think it's an important skill to acknowledge how someone does write a song.

(13:05):
I think you learn a lot of skills by learning their processes and how they do that.
So yeah.
You know, as much as I agree you shouldn't do.
I mean, personally what Greta Van Fleet did, which was pretty much just take the whole of Led Zeppelin throwing shade.
I like, I think they're incredible musicians.
Fleet, we are calling you out as frauds of Led Zeppelin.

(13:25):
I think they're incredible musicians, but, and they have brought that sound back to life, but it's just so, it's too familiar to think No, it's just like, oh, we like this.
We're gonna replicate this.
It's like, yeah, yeah.
Which, which is fine, but it's not anything that's brand new in music.
Would you give up what you have now to have their success? What do you mean? If, if someone said, okay, so we, we both like red or chili peppers.

(13:52):
If someone said, you can do the Greta Greta van, fleet of Red or chili peppers and have their fame and success, would you, would you take that deal? But you can't have.
The fat salad, original juicy tones.
So you don't get to do that on the side.
You can't use that to leverage.
No, no, no.

(14:12):
It's like that's your thing.
That's your only thing.
So you are the, you are the Red Oak Chili Peppers of Greta VanFleet, if that makes sense.
I think, I think it'd be quite tough because as much as, yes, it'd be great fun experiencing all the, the level of gigging, like how it, like in sync is it is your whole job.
I think it's also difficult because I probably wouldn't feel entirely satiated by that.

(14:34):
I would feel a bit less original.
You're boxed as well? Yeah.
Like you have a limit to what sounds you can make.
Yeah.
Because this is what the Chili Peppers did, so you can only make sounds within that remit.
But yeah, I think it's a hard question to ask.
'cause obviously, you know, you'd probably be making absolute bank, you'd be having a good time.
You still get to perform life, but you do miss out that, yeah.

(14:54):
Feel like it would just feel a little bit empty.
Yeah.
Like even though it's wicked, can I do it for like a year, make a load of money and then like quit.
Yeah, I dunno.
And then it is just like, it's so obvious as well.
Yeah, I think so as well.
Then again, like, I dunno, I dunno, Oasis were good because they stole, they stole a lot of stuff from a lot of different people and it's very obvious.

(15:15):
But it was their unique blend, which I suppose is, well I good artistry.
I mean to, yeah, I'd argue any artist as a product of all the, yeah, but there's a few, there's a few Beatles songs where if you know the Beatles songs, you're like, oh, this is.
I know them as Oasis.
I'm on message.
Are you shade? You are throwing shade.
Uh, Oasis.
Oasis.
He's out in you.
Not me.

(15:36):
Not me.
I, I like you guys.
That's pretty as throwing shade goes.
That's pretty vanilla.
Yeah.
Yeah, I was gonna say it's pretty soft.
Pretty soft as you go.
Yeah.
Soft core stuff.
Soft core.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, no.
And would you like to tell the audience what we are up to this weekend? This weekend we are playing the Levels Anniversary birthday show We are, and Aiden's baking a cake.

(16:02):
Um, we're opening the festival.
It's gonna be a great day.
We've got great DJs, great other bands going.
Um, big old party.
And we are, we're playing around with the set a little bit, aren't we? Yeah, we are dropping some things.
We're putting some new stuff in.
Well, we've got a lovely little half an hour slot, so we thought it was a prime time to experiment with some new stuff, rearrange some things, drop some songs that we don't wanna play.

(16:25):
This time I'm playing Aiden's, guitar aid's guitars, playing, playing my guitar.
It's a whole Rubik's cube of just sort of.
We might not even be there.
We might naans playing the triangle.
Yeah.
Naans playing the triangle.
Over Zoom there.
There's a whole thing.
There's also a, um, what's the, what's the big thing that you blow in? Um, big, big Leroy.

(16:47):
Uh, we do have a diary.
Do solo.
Oh, that's not what I thought.
Okay.
What did you say? Big Leroy.
Big Leroy got the B thing that you blow in.
Okay.
You need to, sorry, part down.
Um, in addition, we will be selling some of our shirts at the gig.
Hey, we got merch out.
Boy, we got merch out.
We got like so much merch.
We've already sold a few.
Um, so for those of you that don't know already, Christmas is coming up.

(17:11):
Should we pause this and get the merch? That's December 25th.
We'll get the merch.
