Marianne Beets, head of housekeeping, has a whole speech ready... but time waits for no bonded. From teleportation gates to upside-down clocks, the courtyard of Vardin pulses with magic—and Sorin’s already bonded. Chapter 17 introduces Headmaster Venrover, a sphinx arcanist with secrets etched beneath his mark. Piper’s past with the menagerie casts a long shadow, and when a cyclops arcanist crashes the meeting, things spiral fast. In Chapter 18, the dining hall dazzles Twain (and us) with endless food options, but the real feast is the tour: stone golems, coatls, training fields, and clubs galore. Nini’s bond with Waste comes with a twist—she lied about her trial. Chapter 19 brings us to the dorms, complete with heated water and a treehouse for larger eldrin. Sorin returns, transformed and mysterious. And in Chapter 20, we meet the classmates: Sorin is now a Knightmare arcanist bonded to Thurin, a philosophy knight with a Scottish accent and a distaste for Miko.
