(00:00):
Yeah, yeah. So story time before we go. Story time.
This happened not too long ago. I was just, I just, we had just had our first episode.
And literally like two days later, I endured this.
Now, those of you who are just now listening, I'm the sucker brother of the
(00:21):
family that works at a GameStop.
So since we're doing a gaming podcast, I have to give gaming-like situations.
At a game store it's fitting oh yeah and you realize you realize how people can be sometimes,
uh which one which ones did i do okay so here's one it just happened a couple
(00:42):
days after our first episode so gentleman calls you know i answer you know do
my little jingle thank you for calling game stuff you know and gentleman asked
me hey do you have any ps5s available i I said, I do.
I do have PS5s. Are you looking for new or used?
He's like, oh, I'm looking used. I'm like, all right. Looking for digital or
disc? Oh, well, you know, I'm looking for digital. I was like, okay.
(01:06):
That's fine. I got a couple different ones I can help you out with.
Just stop me and let me know. I'll give you some prices real quick. So I gave him the prices.
I said, yeah, I got a pre-owned digital at $410. So it's $409.99,
right? But I round up a cent.
Because there's going to be tax involved anyway. Anyway, so it's going to be more than 410.
(01:27):
I mean, it's just common sense, you would think. Yeah, for some.
It's not common in everybody.
So the guy was like, oh, okay, yeah. And he's like, you don't have any used
ones? You don't have any new ones?
I was like, well, I do, but those ones are going to be at 450.
You only have them new right now.
So I don't think anyone's brought in any of the Slims yet, the PS5 Slims.
(01:51):
I don't think anyone's brought in any that's digital. i've got
a couple of them that are that are disc but not digital so gentleman
calls me he gets off the phone me calls back like five
minutes later i was like hey so i saw online that you guys are selling new ones
new ps5 digitals at 490 409 99 right i was like huh like i'm throwing off for
(02:14):
a second because i'm like doing something else and then this comes about and i'm like this doesn't,
I don't know like I was like oh maybe something was up maybe something was off
let me double check the internet price is always different from the store price
well yeah but I mean we match we match our online price you know we do that
if something's off right,
(02:36):
and so I'm like okay let me let me check so I'm checking my inventory I'm like
no it's the same price as I gave you and I was like alright let me go online
let me see because sometimes sometimes updates on my end are not yours so I looked and I was like,
No, it's the same price. And he's like, well, that one's new at $409.99.
And I was like, no, no, sir, it's not. It's not new at all.
(03:00):
And he was like, well, why do you have it on the website?
And I'm like, I don't have anything to do with the website. I just work at the store.
He goes, well, that doesn't make any sense. Why would you have it up?
Yes, yes, yes, yes. Yes, this situation.
And I'm like, look, man, I don't know what you're trying to get at.
This conversation is going in circles. So what are you looking for?
(03:24):
He goes, I'm looking for that $409.99.
And I was like, okay, so let me answer this for you.
And I think this will solve all the problems.
No store at this point, any first retailer, is selling any of the original PS5 systems new anymore.
More the one that you are seeing if you read at the top and this is exactly
(03:47):
what i said to him if you read at the top it says refurbished gamestop certified
playstation 5 digital system,
why was he saying new when it says refurbished right because he wasn't reading oh,
because he didn't read because because you agreed because you agreed Agreed.
(04:12):
Well, I didn't read terms and conditions. Well, you agreed. You agreed.
So, and I said, yeah, I have that specific one that you were talking about, but it is pre-owned.
Not refurbished, pre-owned, and it is still the same price.
Oh, well, okay. Well, I just don't understand why you, I'm like,
(04:34):
yeah, well, if you come and get it, I got it for you.
If not, we just, yeah, whatever.
So he comes in. Oh, the story's not done. Okay. So he comes in,
right? Mm-hmm. So we have this deal going on.
If you spend $250 on the story, you get $25 off.
And I was like, oh, okay. Well, shoot. Go ahead and get him a deal, right? Mm-hmm.
(04:54):
So first guy, the guy that came up before him, I got him that deal on a digital. Mm-hmm.
But what ended up happening was, little did I know, that when the guy I talked
to on the phone was up, when I was doing all this stuff and I got him signed
up for our membership because the other guy got signed up for the membership. He did get the $25 off.
(05:16):
Okay. So this was one of those where you had to buy the...
No, no, no. It's not because you had to buy the rewards membership.
Him buying the rewards membership helped him get $25 off, which was weird,
right? Because it just worked out that way.
So he decides to get it new. He doesn't want to get the pre-owned one. He gets the new one slim.
All right. Okay. So you're spending now, Now he's spending $450 before tax.
(05:39):
He gets it. And then I was like, yeah, let's get you signed up for the membership.
It's going to be free. You get $25 off. It's $25 to do it. Basically,
right? Yeah. It's a swap.
And so I hit the button. It doesn't come up. I was like, huh.
Interesting. Interesting.
So I'm trying to figure some stuff out. And I'm like, oh, wait.
This doesn't make sense.
(05:59):
So I called my boss and I was like, hey, for some reason you're not getting
the $25 thing. What's going on here? It's getting the digital systems over $250.
Oh we changed something so digit
slim digitals are not no longer on that well
and i was like oh so we didn't get an email for this or anything
like that transparency yeah transparency it helps you know my boss he usually
(06:24):
was pretty good at relaying all information to me it's just as of late he's
been pretty busy and stuff like that but normally they'll have like a paper
that we We print out. He'll put it on the thing and all this good stuff.
I didn't see anything on that paper saying that. Right.
So, gentleman was mad at me. And I'm like, I'm looking at him like,
I don't know why you're mad at me for a change. It's been one year.
(06:46):
And that happened. I can take the frustration out on somebody.
He's like, well, I mean, is there anything you could do about this?
And I was like, well, I can't take anything off the system. Mm-hmm. Right?
But, I mean, if you're going to get something else, I'd gladly take $25 off of it.
Right. If you're going to get a game, that's darn near half the price.
(07:06):
Or, well, you couldn't get a game. I was like, if you're going to get a controller,
if I get it to you pre-owned, or hell, if you want it new, I'll take $25 off
of it if that's such a huge thing.
He's like, no, no, no. I know it's not your fault. All my laws are out there.
I'm like, man, this guy...
I don't know what he's trying to do, but he just couldn't stop talking.
(07:29):
I'm just trying to get him out of here. Yeah. I'm just like, my Lord.
Wrap up this transaction, sir. Yeah, because I don't want you in here anymore
because I'm liable to snap on any of you at the moment. I have snapped on some people before.
Oh, did I tell you? No, I don't think you did. Oh, okay. So this is when I was
an assistant manager of an Iowa. Yeah.
(07:50):
So there was a gentleman that came in. And it was about the guy with the game
systems. Did I say that? Did I say that story?
I don't believe you did. I had to call the police. No. Oh, wow.
Oh, wow. Oh, because, I mean, I would have taken care of myself if that was
the case, but I didn't lose my job.
Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, I'll gladly clock out for a couple minutes a week and squabble.
(08:14):
I'm okay with that. So, guy comes in with his son.
Oh, man. Man, I might get a little heated in this one.
So a guy comes in with his son and comes in with an Xbox One X,
an Xbox One S, two of the Black Shark Razor headsets. Oh, okay, headsets, okay.
(08:39):
So he wasn't bringing those in for trade, but he was like, well,
there was a deal on these, and we didn't get the deal on it.
So some something happened where
they bought them so usually what what i do in a
situation like that is if they buy something and that
they return it within like a couple like seven days so the window is has to
be 15 days unopened for a new product right but normally if i can finagle the
(09:07):
system a little bit i'll try to help them if it's after that you know what i
mean but normally i say seven because it just makes it easier for me to help him. Right.
So it was a couple, it was like, he bought it on a Saturday,
he came back on a Tuesday.
So it was within seven days. He didn't open them, which was great.
And I'm like, all right, cool.
Yeah, we can go out and do this. Just like, just exchange them.
Yeah, pretty much a return, rebuy, but then get the money back that it was off.
(09:30):
I don't have any problems doing that for anybody at all.
Yeah, so three months down the road, and like, hold up. Yeah,
right. Right. I had some people do that, too. That's another story in itself.
So a gentleman comes in. He brings those things. And I was like,
yeah, sure, we can take care of you.
I go ahead. I do his 1S. His 1S HDMI port is not reading.
(09:54):
So I'm like, yeah, your HDMI port's not coming up with your image right now.
Well, that doesn't make any sense. I was just using it like six months ago.
I was like, okay, well, did you have it stored somewhere or anything like that?
He's like, well, it was at the cabin. And I was like, okay, are you at the cabin a lot?
No, no, I'm not. I'm like, all right, well, I mean, if you're not using the
(10:15):
air conditioner, you're not using that.
A lot of moisture can get in there and all the rest of the good stuff.
Something might have happened. Something might have eroded or whatever. Maybe that happens.
I mean, that's what happens with electronics sometimes.
I'm just trying to give them some idea why it's not happening correctly.
And I was like, still take it. It's going to be a defective,
but I can still take it. No problem. Right.
(10:36):
So I'm putting the stuff in. I'm going to say good stuff.
I'm getting ready to do the next system.
Something told me to look to my right. So I looked to my right.
Actually, no, I looked to my left at first and his child was behind the desk.
What the heck? Yeah, behind the desk looking at all like the little accessories.
Right. I'm like. So how young is the child? Oh, he was a teenager. Oh.
(11:01):
Oh, so he knows better. He knows better. He knows better. I'm like,
hey, sir, you can't be back here, man.
No, no, no. I can't have you back here if you slip and fall or something like that. That's on me.
So can I have you go to the front?
I don't know how he didn't see his son doing that. But then I look to my right.
(11:23):
He's fiddling with the HDMI stuff. I'm like, sir, what are you doing?
Yeah so he's feeling he got it to work
but then now with my
screen on the thing i have to use the hdmi on
that doesn't work well so now i have to figure
out how to fiddle this thing so that i
can get the image back up on the screen that i need to use because
(11:43):
it's a touch screen and i'm like i did
not ask you to touch that at all i'm glad
you got it working great but i did not ask you
to do that now i have to fix this so i stopped what i was doing to help him
to fix that because it's a bit more important right and if he wants me to get
that other xbox i have to fix this so i finally got it fixed i got his other
(12:08):
one on there just doing the stuff on the computer,
and then so he takes the hdmi out again,
Why? I don't know. Wow. And I'm like, sir. Was there a full moon?
You know what? Playing Persona 3 and then understanding the moon phases and
everything in that, where it was a full moon and there's something going on
(12:28):
in that game, that's definitely a true thing.
I don't know if it was a full moon, but it was something.
And I was like, sir, I had asked you not to touch anything over there. Why are you back there?
Oh, I was just trying to see if it was. i'm like sir can you just step
away from the stuff please and he goes well it's my stuff i
said okay take your stuff move it to the counter and
(12:51):
stay over there i don't need you touching my equipment
right you've already touched it before i you
saw i had to fiddle with this thing for like 20 minutes because you would have
been gone if you didn't touch this right and so mind you this whole time now
i know he wasn't directing it at me so i'm gonna throw this out there now I
(13:13):
know he wasn't directing it at me,
and it may sound like I overreacted or it may seem like I overreacted.
But when you have someone yelling about something and you're the only one in
the store and he's looking at you, at some point it kind of gets to you.
Yeah. At some point it does. Like, what the heck?
Yeah, right. Like, what have I done to this man?
(13:35):
All I'm doing is checking the systems. and so it
got to a point he's like hey i don't understand why this thing is
happening they're like well i don't how why am i
getting this much money i said you know what enough enough from
the time you've come in here to now it has been 25 minutes almost a half hour
that i've had to do this do this do this i have been cord i've been nothing
(13:58):
but cordial to you i've ignored things you've said my rest of the good stuff
it's time for you to go he goes oh no no it's just a a misunderstanding.
I'm like, no, it's not a misunderstanding.
I understand clearly on what's going on right now.
Pretty sure it's time for you to go. And he's like, well, why would you tell me to go?
I'm like, sir, you are, you are just raising your voice about the situation.
(14:21):
I have explained to you what would have happened with your thing before you
got it to work. Great. I'm glad you did. I didn't want you touching my stuff.
You got mad at me for telling you to move away from
the of stuff i told and you said to me oh this
is my stuff i'm like okay there's stuff you're trading i understand that you
can take your stuff and move it away from the screen then right but don't go
(14:42):
back there i've told you more than once i shouldn't have to because you're an
adult i should not have to but then you're still carrying on about this stuff
i don't have time for that you gotta go,
he's very calm about it and he goes well yeah this is why no one likes you guys
anyway and i was like I'm like, all right, great. That's fine.
You're just doing yourself a deep hole. You can leave.
(15:03):
He's like, what are you going to do about it? And I was like,
well, you know what? If this was a couple of years ago, I would have already
cussed you out, probably fought you by now.
But I'm not doing that. None of that today. No, not today. Not today, Satan. Not today.
He was like, oh, was that a threat? Is that a threat? I was like,
no, I've just said what I would have done.
I'm not saying I'm going to. He was like, yeah, well, that's a threat.
(15:26):
And I'm like, yeah, you know the law, don't you, buddy?
You know it. So I was like, all right, well, if you're not going to go,
you're just going to make it harder on yourself when I call the police to have you removed.
It's like, well, I'm not going anywhere. And I was like, okay.
And so I'm on the phone with the police.
I'm like, look, it's not an emergency, but I need somebody. I need somebody
(15:47):
to remove this person. Because I don't want to do it myself,
obviously. I want to keep my job.
And then he starts leaving.
And so here's my petty ass. So I will take responsibility for this one. I go, bye.
And he goes, I'm not going anywhere. And I'm like, fuck.
(16:10):
I should have never said that. like i did
i did like smallly regret that but
at the same time it bothered him that much i was like ah
never mind i'm cool with this i'm cool with this
stay now what was the teenager doing this entire
time he was kind of dumbfounded actually he
was trying to figure out like what the fuck is going on and i feel bad
(16:30):
for him i felt bad for him because his
dad wasn't really the best example of a person you know
what i mean and again not everybody's perfect i'm not
gonna say i am but if you have a
child with you you want to conduct a little bit better right
yes and i and i understand like you know some people get
riled up like when i when i talk about certain situations or when
(16:52):
i'm passionate about something my voice raises and i get all like oh you know
and everyone's like how did you calm down like like we don't need you mad i
was like no i'm not mad that's just that's just how i talk that's how i project
it and i just i just know when to do it and when not to do it and that's probably what the situation was
that he was just riled up about the situation and I'm just like.
(17:15):
You're kind of getting on my case about something that I don't,
I don't have any control over.
You know what I mean? Like, you're the one that's supposed to take care of your stuff.
If I give you a quote, that's what the quote is. I can't go higher or lower.
I mean, unless there's like something that you saw online that's telling you
different, then yeah, I can do that. No problem.
Excuse me. So, yeah, it was, it was, it was a huge thing.
(17:38):
Cops came and, you know, I talked with them. I'm like, yeah,
I just want them. I just want them gone. That's all.
You know what I mean? i got no ill will against the guy it's just like he's
doing too much he's not listening he's he's he's being was unruly you know i
told him not to touch anything he touched it more than once,
i just need him gone but you want him trespassed i was like well
(18:00):
i'm not the i'm not the owner of this store so i'm not
gonna i'm not gonna ruin someone's life i'm not
saying that bringing someone to gamestop and they can't come
right is ruining them but i still
want them to have a fair shake i mean they didn't steal anything they didn't
do anything crazy or egregious unless like you
know if you tried to fight me then i would probably beat his ass and then
said yeah trespass because i'm not i'm not the one right i'm not the one so
(18:26):
they were like oh yeah you said something you said something about uh threatening
him or something i was like i didn't threaten him all i said what was that if
this was a couple years ago i would have probably This is what I would have
done. Yeah, this is what I would have done.
And he took it as a threat for some reason.
Anything to try to provoke someone. That's a threat.
That's a, oh my God. Like, the way he said that and the smile he had on his face.
(18:51):
And I looked at him and I was like, wow, how dumb can you be?
Like, if I literally said, and I'm a terrible liar. So, I would say like, yeah, I did say that.
I would say that. Like, I'm not going to lie to you about it because I'm going to lie about the lie.
And then and then forget about the lie before right that's just too much work
so yeah i got them removed well rest seconds nothing i had to call super boss
(19:16):
and i'm like all right super boss this is what the deal is my district manager
at the time what probably one of the best ones i had,
and i was like yeah here's the deal i had to call the police well did you file
this report no i didn't but i don't think i need to because they didn't give
me any papers right they're like all right well just be safe.
Yeah, you know, that was that. That was that.
(19:36):
But yeah, that's it. Yeah, man. There was another one time.
Dad, you got to split these up because I'm just thinking of more stories.
Yeah. There was one time, and so this was on me.
This was on me. So I tell all these stories that, you know, fall on the other
people. This one was on me. I think I was a little out of line on this one.
(19:57):
It happens, you know, dealing with people. There's always one you're just going to. Just snap. Yeah.
Oh, I got two more. I got two more and that's it. I got two more and that's
it. I'm just remembering these.
So one was, there's these kids that came in, you know, summertime,
summertime, you know, kids want to be, want to have fun and all the rest of it. I get that.
(20:18):
And so, you know, we'll get, we'll get prank calls and stuff and.
Prank calls. yeah well did we people still do it
kids still do it a refrigerator running yeah
you better go catch it it's like
it's right here what are you talking about so you know we get we get prank calls
and you know on some days i'm like yeah what type of material they got today
(20:39):
let me see you know what i mean yeah like i'm i'm excited to hear this i got
i got good i got on a couple of them let's see i'll entertain yeah yeah i got
got on a couple of them i'm like okay all right and i
don't i don't remember them but i do remember like okay that was a good
one you know what i mean yeah but there are ones where like
if i'm like stressed out about something or if i'm stressed out about my
day or something like that i just don't have time for it because there's so
(21:01):
much stuff i have to do have to do you don't want to deal with nothing else
and a lot of people don't think oh game stop it's just not you don't do anything
you just stand there and talk about video games no there's a lot of shit you
do i'm sorry but if you have people that don't work if you have people that
you know don't communicate things to you or anything like that there's a a lot
of shit that you have to do. Yeah.
Especially when you're at a store. So the store in Iowa, it's another store
(21:23):
in Iowa, another story for the Iowa store.
But, but a bigger store like the one here in town in Palm Bay. Mm-hmm. You get.
During peak season, you get 40, 50 different distro boxes that you got to do.
If somebody doesn't take care of that or take care of some of it throughout
the day. Yeah. So what's a distro box?
Hmm? What's a distro box? Oh, just like product. Oh, okay.
(21:45):
Games, controllers, whatever collectibles that we're selling.
So is this stuff already inventory in the system or is that nothing that you have to do?
So it's already inventoried in the shipment.
Okay. You have to select that shipment in correspondence to the same number
that's on the box, the distro number. Verifying that it's there.
Yeah. So how I do that is usually the GameStop way is you get the box,
(22:11):
you get the distro number, you put it in or you select it. Then you hit yes.
And then you look at all the product on there and how many numbers of what it
is and then add them all up.
Go ahead and put the number in and then bam, right? Done, yeah.
No. No, wrong way to do that. Wrong way to do that.
So basically what I do is I take everything out the box.
(22:33):
I count and I make sure I have all of what I need from the list on there because human error happens.
And some people may put something in there that doesn't belong in there or may
put the right product in there and not enough of them or too many of them.
So then that kind of skews the shrink rate for the store.
(22:58):
So I do that. That's how I do it. It's a longer process, but it's accurate. More accurate, yes.
So if you don't have anyone that does things like that in the store, it can be daunting.
It can be very hard. You have tasks that you have to do. You got to do pictures,
all the rest of the good stuff.
It's just a process that you do. It's just tasks that you do every week.
(23:21):
And if the tasks pile up to the end of the week, now you got bottom of the ninth
base is loaded and you're trying to get all this stuff done.
You're not going to, especially when you're taking care of guests.
So, hold on one sec. I just, there we go. So then now we're looking at.
(23:42):
What's that? Okay, yeah, I'm back to the story. So these three teenagers came
in, right? Well, whatever.
Teenagers would come in there and they'd get like a game or two or something
like that or get a $10 gift card for the next battle pass or something.
And one of them came up. It just wasn't me today. I just wasn't me to that day. You know what I mean?
(24:03):
He came up with all these games.
He's like, yeah, I want to trade in these three games. I looked at it.
I was like what i saw a big chungus
big chungus well i've
heard of it before but i've never actually seen a cover art of it i
looked at the other one and it was another obscurely named game that's not a
(24:25):
game yeah i looked and i was like what is this he's like oh it's a trade game
i was like get the fuck out my store man get out actually i never thought of
that so is this Is this a legit game or?
No, it's not a game at all.
Just a lot of people use that as a prank. Big chungus.
And as soon as I saw it, I was like, I got so much stuff to do.
(24:49):
Just leave. Just leave. You know what I mean?
So I should have been a little bit more lenient because, I mean,
again, they're kids. They're trying to have fun, whatever.
They thought it was funny, right? Yeah. They thought it was funny.
Today, that day, I didn't. Just let them feel it, right? Mm-mm.
And then there was a lot of stuff to do that day too. So I didn't think about
it. How often does that happen?
(25:09):
Not very often. No, okay. The prank calls and the prank trades.
I guess both.
Prank calls, out of a 365 day, you'll probably get it like a week or two, right? Yeah.
The fake trades, that was the first time I actually seen that.
First and last, because I've never seen it since.
(25:32):
But I see like videos where people like go to GameStop on YouTube,
like, oh, yeah, I want to trade these games in.
Yeah. First off, for all you people that do that, you video YouTubers that do
that, y'all are terrible.
Y'all are terrible. And I don't mean in a bad way. I mean in a really funny
way, because you got to catch me on a good day for me to laugh at that.
And, you know, they're over there like, oh, yeah, I thought I'd get more for this.
(25:57):
Like, man. Man, I know y'all are trolling hard, but, man, I hope y'all don't
do that to me because if you catch me, like I said, catch me on a bad day, it's over with. Right.
I'm ruining your footage, and I don't want to do that. I really don't because
if you're doing content, I want you to have good content. Either that or just let me know, please.
I'm like, oh, yeah, we don't take these games here.
(26:21):
So there was that one. So here's the last one. The last one was I was working.
Drinking, and it was a slow day, it was a slow day, so there was another Iowa
store that was about a half hour from us, and I got a call from this lady,
and this lady was like, hey,
so I need your help, and I was like, okay,
(26:42):
what's going on, and so she was saying, yeah, I was at your Cedar Rapids store,
and, excuse me, and, you know, do you train your, do you train your employees like this?
And I was like, well, I mean, I don't, I don't train that store,
nor do I work at that store.
So I don't know what's going on over there. I can't speak for them.
(27:05):
I mean, it's one thing to be trained and nothing to just do it your own way. Right, right.
I was like, I can't speak for them. So, I mean, what's the issue?
Well, she said that I went to go purchase something and, and this happened and that happened.
I don't remember all the details, but then your employee was very mean to me.
And then he said, he said, get the fuck out my store. Right. Yeah.
(27:31):
So it was believable up until that point, right?
And I was like, hmm, well, you know, customer service. Well,
I apologize that you had to go through that.
Obviously, no one should have to go through that. And then that's just me being
genuine about that. Not even trying to buy something, but if you're being difficult.
And so that's where I, this is where I'm going to get to.
(27:54):
You hit the nail on the head. So I said, so now, ma'am, I'm not throwing anything
at you or throwing any shade at you or anything like that.
But what did you do in order for that person to say that thing?
Because that's something that's not said unprovoked. Correct, yes.
That has to be a provoked thing.
(28:16):
So what happened? She goes, well, I'm kind of taking it back that you would ask me that question.
Like i mean i want to know like i'm gonna solve your
issue right right i was like i was like well
i mean how are you taking them back i'm not saying i'm
not accusing you of anything but there had to have been some type of cue or
something that you did in order for this person to say that now is it right
(28:40):
for them to say no by any means even even a work outside of a work setting any
any place it's It's just not right to say.
Correct. But you'd have to piss somebody off for that to happen.
So you got to tell me what you did so that I can figure this out for you.
Well, we don't have to do anything. I just needed to call and see.
(29:05):
I was like, man, call corporate.
Why would you call another store? Well, I mean, so you don't want to do that.
You don't want to tell them. The corporate ain't going to do nothing anyway.
And you want to say, okay, we'll take your complaint.
Please fill out the index card and the email that we have for you.
And then we'll go from there.
(29:29):
Yes, sir. That's true. So, yeah. So, I'm like, all right, look, I'm trying to help you.
So, you're telling me you don't want me to help you at all.
I was like, do you know the name of the person? No. Okay. Do you know what time
this happened? I don't remember.
Okay. okay, I mean, you're not really giving me too much to go off of.
So whatever item that you were looking for, I can look for it here.
(29:51):
You can come down this way because I know it's a little bit of drive.
It's like 20, 25 minutes, 30 minutes. If you want to get the item from here, you can.
No, no, I just need someone. I was like, ma'am, we're going in circles.
Either you need help or we can get off the phone.
And then she gets mad at me.
I got shit I got to do. Right. Like I'm not, I'm not, I got people in the store.
(30:15):
Like I'm not, no, none of this.
You know what? I'm just, I'm just going to call corporate. I'm like,
yeah, you do that. You do that. You do that. That's fine.
So mind you, the story's not done yet. Mind you, my boss comes in the next day.
I was talking with him. I let him know what happened.
He comes in the next day and he was like, I got called by like five or different,
(30:38):
There's five or six different GameStop stores in the area talking about the same woman.
What was she doing? Just calling stores? Just calling stores to complain.
Oh, my gosh. I guess she really wanted someone to talk to.
You know, yeah. But come to find out, she was being difficult.
Okay. Because I actually talked to the person who said said thing.
(31:02):
Yeah. They acknowledged, like, yeah, I did. I was wrong. However.
Like, what do you want me to do in this situation? I'm like, yeah, I got you.
You're human. I get it. But yeah, there's other ways to subtly be a dick to
someone without being a dick, if that makes sense.
Look, I'm done. Get out of here. Who was that, Chewie? Yeah. Okay.
(31:27):
But yeah, so I think that's all the stories I have for today. Mm-hmm.
I think that's all of them. Man, I should have worked at GameStop.
No, no. We've got some real good stories.
No, I just, you know, it's not, I tell these stories for entertainment purposes, right?
Yeah. And then obviously, like I said in the last one, the last story I told
(31:49):
you, I wasn't the best one in this situation.
And I don't want to give stories that it's just all about the people.
Right. And all the stupidity there is. Like, I make errors too.
I definitely make errors. I do feel bad. I do feel bad about the kids that I
like to kind of went off learn to have a little laugh and Yeah,
(32:09):
now they're like, oh that guy was me.
Yeah, I mean, I'm pretty sure I got some people Oh, yeah. Oh, I got another one.
I got another one. I got another one. So this happened just the other day So
there was a gentleman that came in with his wife.
Yeah, and You know, I'm training at this time. We have a new person coming in.
She's she's doing great.
(32:30):
By the way, she's doing amazing and you know she has to she has to come to me
about certain things so if i'm if i'm working with somebody and then i can hear
her tell me something and then i can just like go like this.
Blurt it out to her and then look this way and you know i'm doing all that stuff
so she was like hey you know what why don't you wait for him because he's a
(32:53):
little bit more knowledgeable about these things and so they waited for me and
you know i helped them out and there was good stuff they got
a playstation they didn't get any games
or anything like that but they were asking questions about like oh does it play the
ps4 and i was like yeah it plays plays ps4 games all of
like maybe one or two but they're not released out here so that's
not a big deal and so maybe maybe this is just me thinking something wrong right
(33:18):
or maybe it's the wrong way to think about it but i'm not one to like being
undermined when i say something to you and i know what i'm saying i work at the game store.
Now I'm not right on everything. Right.
But about 97% of the time I'm correct. Mm-hmm.
So he came up to me and he was like, okay, so let's just say,
(33:39):
and for the audience, I'm putting
what I'm going to say. I'll let you know when I do it in air quotes.
Okay. So he comes to me and says, so the PS4 games will, here are the air quotes, work on a PS5.
And so I said, no, they won't just, here's the air quotes, work.
(33:59):
They will work on a PS5.
He goes, really? And I said, yes. i've
told you that three times already right tres times
and so they're like oh okay yeah yeah
so i'm just like why why would why would
you do the air quote thing like don't do that don't do that because
it yeah it actually works on there i have a ps5 myself like what i don't i'm
(34:24):
just i don't know i kind of wish i don't wish but would like to see your perspective
of a household where I guess I don't say video game number one,
but like, how do you have no idea or not even search to see what you're buying?
Because before I make any big purchase like that, I got to research.
(34:47):
Do research, yeah. Watch YouTube videos. You know, YouTube's a great thing now.
But, you know, I don't think a lot of people do.
I think a lot of people actually do. It's just when they get in the store, it's like, I don't know.
Like I think it goes out the window yeah it's almost like taking an exam yeah
like you studied for and then you come in and it's like oh shit I forgot everything yes,
(35:11):
right yeah so then now they're like trying to figure out and remember all their
knowledge that they learned and then like oh is he gonna say the same thing
that I picked up on you know what I mean yeah it's just like,
just listen just if anyone encounters me in a game so that probably all you
have to do is this just listen to what I say right Right.
(35:31):
Now, you can either take it or leave it, but if I'm giving you factual stuff,
please stay with the factual and don't ask me to repeat myself.
I just, I don't know. Unless you have bad hearing, then that's one thing.
Maybe give benefit of the doubt, but I don't believe someone will work at a
game store and just give out incorrect information.
You'd be surprised. Really? You'd be surprised.
(35:53):
You'd be very surprised. As far as what, I don't know, just the simple,
if something's backwards compatible.
That or the big one is the couch co-op games
a lot of people still come into the store asking about
couch co-op games now i will tell you this and i've seen this for myself i've
seen people come in ask for couch co-op games and then i have somebody who i
(36:17):
who just started was like oh this is couch co-op this is couch co-op this is
couch co-op and all three of them are not couch co-op to find couch co-op for
us oh i'm sorry for those who are not gamers,
couch co-op is a one two how many ever play a game that we all can sit in one
area and play on one screen that
(36:39):
is couch co-op now you have pvp which big brother has mentioned before,
that pvp could is mainly online it's it's basically like you know player versus
player Or you can also do couch co-op online, too, which is not in the same
space. It's online, obviously.
(37:01):
Damn, why am I in Kansas City? I like hurting people's feelings, okay?
Now that we are not in the sports realm anymore, I don't know who I can manhandle,
but I can manhandle somebody in a game.
I mean, and I get manhandled, too. So, but yeah, I, yeah, you'd be surprised
on how many people give misinformation that work at a game store.
(37:24):
I've seen it myself. If I don't know something, I will, I will look at you and
be like, hmm, you know, I don't know too much about that.
Let me, let's, let's, let's consult almighty Google.
Yeah. You know, so we'll look together. Right. Facebook.
Or Facebook. I mean, I don't know about that. Well, hey, now you're getting
in the weeds. We can't do this. We can't do this. We got to go to Facebook first.
(37:47):
All right. So why do we have to go to Facebook first, brother?
It's just a weird phenomenon for me. I mean, go to Google. It'll tell you before someone comments.
That's fair. That's fair. Or Reddit. Reddit actually is pretty good,
too. Yes. Reddit's actually pretty good. I have not gone on the GameStop Reddit yet.
I'm sure you'll find tons of stuff. I have not.
(38:09):
The only reason why I haven't is because I work there and I want to deal with
that, right? And I love the people like, oh, I thought you guys shut down.
I'm like, obviously not.
Hello. Here I am.
It's like, yeah, so when did you guys shut down? I don't know.
I don't think about that. I work here. Oh, yeah, I guess. Yeah, sorry.
(38:33):
I think that's where the touch of the tism comes in. Yeah. Just a little bit.
Just a little bit. Mind you, I think everyone has a touch of the tism.
Just some of it comes out in most people a little more often than others.
So, did I finish that story? Did I finish that story?
Oh, no, I didn't. I didn't. I didn't. So, we're going to go back.
Sorry. Yeah, we went off a little bit.
(38:55):
So, you know, I'm talking with them. The whole, do they work? Yes, they work.
So then got a ps5 and usually my
my spiel is if you get a ps5 i recommend getting
the charging station for it because when they first came out uh
those type c's they were burning out the ports on the controller were they yeah
(39:16):
because people were plugging and playing them because oh my god i got a ps5
i can't get off this thing what what i gotta play my 2k i gotta play my call
of duty black ops play for hours and then all of a sudden they won't charge
and you know you need those
ports now to update the controller yeah it'll turn
on you can charge it but you're not gonna be able to update it which means
(39:36):
you won't be able to connect it so i always tell them like hey you need to go
ahead and get this now they might have changed it they might have upgraded that
stuff where it doesn't happen but i mean it's a type c port i would i would
say it still would burn out well i haven't had that issue but i but you don't plug and play no i don't,
But a controller battery life is a little on the short side.
(39:59):
I do recommend the charging station. Yeah, the charging station.
It doesn't, it's just, you know what? I'm selling for Sony. Sony, you better pay me.
But, you know, it stops it. Another story. Yeah. Sony is another story.
But it stops it from charging. It can stay on there as long as it wants.
And it charges from the bottom of it instead of the top. So you save that.
(40:21):
And then whenever you need to go ahead and plug it in, you can plug it in and
know that, Hey, I'm not going to have to worry about anything.
So back to that. So, yeah, he was like, oh, no, we're just going to go ahead and get this.
Because they were looking at the Crash Bandicoot game studio and stuff like
that. So they never picked it up. They just went ahead and got it.
And I was like, all right, look, you are spending over $500 right now.
Let's get you signed up on the membership.
(40:43):
You're already at this point. Another $25 to get you signed up on the membership.
You have a disc game drive, which means that you're going to get games from
here. I'm sure you're going to get benefits.
This, this, and this. Blah, blah, blah. I'm not going to get into all that.
But I did say, I was like, the next time you come in, if you come back tomorrow,
you will have $15 that you can use towards something. No. Okay.
(41:04):
And that's what kills me too, is that I understand like if it's not in your
budget, it's not in your budget.
Right. But if I literally tell you, you got $15 that you can use, that's already.
It's like a gift card. It's like a gift card. Yeah. And it's,
it's already enough to get the game that you want. So you basically get that free.
You're not spending any more money. you're spending it now to
(41:24):
get it free later no we're good i was like all
right cool cool now i preface that
because i preface that because there is a point in this story where they came
back again the next day no the same day okay they came back the same day twice yeah yeah twice Twice.
(41:48):
And then they came back the next day. Twice.
Did they have to discuss it? Whatever they were trying to do?
Well. Did they have extra additional questions?
No, they didn't. They just wanted to come and look at the games, which was fine, right?
They purchased a few things, like the second time they came in, the second time twice.
(42:10):
Or the first time, the first day they came in, the second time they purchased something else.
Because I think they were going back and forth between us and Walmart because
Walmart's right behind us. Okay, I can see that.
And then, well, I mean, I did say, well, we have that same product.
You do know we price match, right? We price match with any first-party retailer.
And normally, normally, if it's like...
(42:35):
Amazon or walmart because you know walmart's thing
is like amazon now it has to be sold by walmart
it can't be sold by a third party right yeah sometimes
i go ahead and i skirt the line a little bit you know i try to help people out
you know what i mean it's hard out there for a pimp wait a minute so um so yeah
(42:57):
i was telling them about that so then they're like oh okay yeah so comes in
the next day first time he's like oh yeah i came to get the crash bandicoot and i was like I'm like,
all right, cool. We'll go to Crash Bandicoot. He got another game.
He said he liked Assassin's Creed, so we got him an Assassin's Creed game.
So he left. Came back again, because when he left the first time,
we were supposed to have Crash Nitro, Crash Team Nitro.
(43:17):
It was on the shelf, but it wasn't something that we had in store.
So somebody put out an empty case. Right.
Again, people not doing their job. But it happens. It happens.
So I said to him, I was like, I was looking all over for it.
And I'm like, man, I can't find it. And so I was like, yeah,
let me check something. So I looked and we didn't have any in stock.
And I was like, oh, well, this was an empty case that was on the floor.
(43:39):
So I do apologize about that.
Yeah. Let me check and see if the other stores got it. And they didn't have
it. So I was like, oh, I kind of felt bad, you know? So how'd you guys get an
empty case for not the games?
No, some. Or someone not putting things out.
You know, I don't know. It's a myriad of things, right? Right.
(44:01):
Sometimes you can't find the case. So you have to find a different case or you
make a different case for the game if they're purchasing it or something like that.
And then you eventually find the case. Right. Yeah.
Or it could be something that was left from months ago.
Okay. And it's like, oh, well, this is a case that needs to be out.
Right. So put it out. Yeah.
So the guy told him he didn't have it and apologized to him.
(44:25):
I was like, oh, that's fine.
I was like, we got PlayStation gift cards. You can buy it off the PlayStation
store. No, I'm good. I'm good.
So he comes back like literally five minutes later.
Sorry. It's a month of text message. Okay. So comes back in.
Comes back in after he'd purchased the games. He goes, well,
yeah. So I saw that there was another Crash game out there. I was like,
(44:45):
oh, you mean Crash Rumble?
Because, yeah, I think I have that out there. I know I have that out there.
It's Smash Brothers-like game, though.
And he goes, no, no, there's another Crash Nitro. I was like,
well, what system was it for?
And he goes, PS5. And I said, Crash Nitro never came out with PS5.
There was no remaster or any type of re-release or anything like that.
(45:07):
He goes, oh, no, no, it was. So, again, I know what I'm talking about.
Don't be burping. Why are you burping? My nephew's going to be barking.
And so he was over there for like five minutes. So I go up there and I'm like,
sir, did you find, find what you needed?
He goes, yeah, this was the one. And I goes, no, that's crash rumble.
(45:29):
And this is where I kind of got an attitude because like, it's like, I told you specific.
Yeah, right there. It's just like, that's not nitro. It's rumble.
He goes, oh, it's not. I was like,
said no it's not like i told you earlier we don't
have that game he was like oh okay it's like
oh my god like why why don't you listen right so but yeah that's that that was
(45:52):
that was the last one i had to deal with but yeah it's only right it's only
right i tell these stories yeah so that if you ever go into a game shop or anywhere
with electronics or just anything in general right Right?
Keep your ears open. Listen.
You'll know when bullshit's bullshit.
(46:12):
Because you'll hear rambling and all the rest of that good stuff.
But then you'll know when you get in the truth or you get in the right information.
Yes. So please, please, give retail workers some type of slack.
Give any workers some type of slack. Okay. Because we're all human.
We're all human. All trying to make it out there.
(46:33):
Sometimes times upper management doesn't always give us
the greatest tools to do everything nope and so
you know you know the workers still learning as well yeah every day i'm always
learning if you're not learning if you're not learning that day you're getting
stagnant you're not doing what you need to do to be better at what you're doing
(46:54):
yes but yeah it's all the gamestop stories i have today.
Well, I appreciate it. These are great. I might have a few more next time.
Next time. Yeah. I don't have too many.
Sounds good. Thank you for joining us. Yay. Thank you.
Thank you. Apologize for the dogs barking.
Well, they are, they're meant to do that. Yes. They're meant to do that.
(47:19):
All right. Catch you guys next time. Peace.
