In this episode of the Check A Pro Radio Show, host Check A Pro Joe discusses an important question many homeowners face: Whether to assign remodeling work to a handyman or hire a full kitchen remodeling company. Our special guest is Mike Gidich from Honey Dudes, who shares his insights on this matter.

Mike explains that while his team does handle light remodeling such as bathroom updates, converting bathtubs to showers for elderly homeowners, and minor shifts like moving a small wall or rearranging a laundry room, they prefer to leave full-scale kitchen remodeling projects to specialist contractors. This way, they can focus on honing their skills in specific areas and maintain the high-quality service that their customers love.

Homeowners often request Honey Dudes for remodeling work because of their previous excellent experiences with the team. Mike underscores the importance of being honest with clients in these situations. It’s essential to acknowledge where their competency lies and where it doesn't. He reminds homeowners that specialists ensuring properly measured and special-ordered cabinets are the prerequisite for successful kitchen remodeling.

According to Mike, handyman services are ideal for general tasks, but for high-end kitchens, bathrooms, or new roof installations, it’s safer to trust the professionals specialized in these fields. With his well-reputed repute, Mike emphasizes that it's not about saying 'yes' to all requests but about delivering the best quality work in areas they have mastered.

On the Check A Pro Radio Show, I, Check A Pro Joe, get all kinds of questions
from homeowners about contractors and home improvement.
One has come in, and it's about remodeling.
And the real question is, as a handyman, can Mike and his team at Honeydudes

(00:23):
do some remodeling work versus hiring a full kitchen remodeling company? company.
So I'm going to pose that question to Mike Gidich. Hey, Mike, how are you?
Great. How are you? I'm doing well. So do you guys do any remodeling at all
or is it just general handyman work?
We do a little bit of light remodeling. You mentioned kitchens.

(00:44):
That's a great one. We get that call quite a bit. We don't get into whole kitchens.
We could train on it and probably grow a division in that, but we found as growing
the company that we've narrowed our scope so that that we can train on things
and just get better at certain things and really narrow in on those to be really good at them.
So things in kitchens and projects that size, we refer those out to bigger general contractors.

(01:08):
Our scope goes to, we'll do a nice bathroom.
We won't get into the HGTV bathroom of like full blown professional tile work
and things like that. We do simple, nice clean bathrooms.
We convert a lot of bathtubs to showers for people that are aging and things like that.
Maybe move a small wall or get a laundry room upstairs for somebody, minor things like that.

(01:29):
But outside of that, that's where our remodeling expertise stops and we'd refer you out.
I find that if you're really good at what you do as a handyman,
your customer wants you, in their mind, to be able to do anything.
And so I'm sure you guys are asked all the time by the homeowner,

(01:49):
hey, you did a great job replacing my doorknobs and painting my walls.
Can you remodel my bathroom? Because they figure you're great and they really
are attached to you. What happens at that point?
We get that a lot with kitchens. They, they love us. They love the team.
And they're like, well, please do our kitchen because we haven't found anybody else like you.

(02:10):
And we just sit down and have the same conversation we did with you and explain
why it's not, it doesn't benefit them for us to be a yes person to do that.
Um, because we wouldn't be doing them any justice.
I don't have the means to special order the cabinets. I don't have the means
to make sure they're properly measured. And that's why you should go with a kitchen professional.
And there's a lot out there and there's a lot of handyman companies that say

(02:31):
they do kitchens and maybe they do.
I'm not, I don't have any, first-hand knowledge on that. I just know from our
standpoint, we found it to be too much for things like that and bigger projects.
And we weren't doing the clients any service by trying to do those jobs for them.
And we weren't giving them the quality that they're used to with us because
we couldn't match that. We didn't practice that.
Yeah. I would recommend to everyone who's listening and watching this,

(02:53):
use a handyman for the general handyman services, but something that's really
specific, like a high-end kitchen or a high-end bathroom or a new roof,
hire the the professional in those field?
A hundred percent. We have great referral partners for those, which is nice. Yeah.
Mike, as always, thank you so much for being the expert here today on the Check A

(03:15):
Pro Radio Show. Thank you.
