(00:38):
It's the hood debutante with London.
Bam.
The hood debutante.
Did y'all feel the jazz in that when I said the hood? Debutante, ah, I even added my jazz fingers to it.
Ak the spirit fingers.
(00:58):
Yo, yo, yo yo.
What's up? Rock stars.
Welcome to another episode of the Hood Debutante podcast with me, your host, London Bambi.
And today's episode is titled.
Spiritual side eye and ba ba.
It is long overdue.
(01:19):
Okay, so I want to set the tone before we jump into this episode.
I wanna make it clear this episode is not about bashing spirituality.
It's not about dragging people who sell crystals or read tarot, because I do those things on occasion, or even people who host retreats in the desert with.
Organic fruit platters and overpriced tent rentals.
(01:41):
It's about discernment.
It's about calling in, not calling out.
It's about noticing when something sacred starts to feel like a performance.
It's about keeping our hearts open while keeping one eye very, very open to, okay, because here's the thing, the spiritual world is supposed to be a safe haven, a refuge for the soul.
A place to return when the world gets too loud, too broken, too shallow.
(02:05):
But what happens when even the sacred spaces starts to feel off? What happens when a crystal shop start to feel colder than the fluorescent lights above it? Let me take you back to the moment this episode was born.
Okay? Because you guys are gonna be like, wait, wait, wait.
I know your topics are, you know, random.
But this one, I was kind of trying to figure out how to approach it.
(02:26):
And also, I wanna apologize because I, this episode should have been dropped the Wednesday.
I'm recording it Wednesday, but it will be dropped tomorrow, which is Thursday.
I had an a different route.
I was gonna go about this, but I felt like I needed to rearrange what I wanted to say and just give it to you guys real.
So this is how this episode was birthed.
(02:48):
I was in a metaphysical shop, one of those places where like incense trails, the air, you know, the soft flutes are playing in the background and everything feels gentle.
Or I thought, right? So I'm browsing the shelves, looking at different types of crystals.
I'm looking at the cite towers, the rose quartz hearts, and then I overhear one of the workers say, and I quote, sometimes I just want to take this Buddha statue and smash it over his head.
(03:18):
Okay.
I'm like shocked.
Right.
I'm not playing y'all.
I froze a bit because this is supposed to be a place of zen.
This was this, this just wasn't some offhanded comment at a party.
This was said inside a spiritual shop.
I.
A space where people enter to begin their healing.
Some folks walk in carrying their traumas.
(03:40):
Some people come in to find peace.
Some are just now starting to listen to themselves for the first time in years.
And here's this man talking about using a symbol of peace and compassion as a weapon.
There was a silence in my body that followed that moment, and I'm not gonna lie, that's when the spiritual side, I came and this happened a while ago.
(04:00):
And I just never, uh, to this day I think about that and I think about the people that enter that shop.
so what do I mean when I say spiritual side eye? It is.
It was that moment.
It's that moment.
Your intuition like flinches.
It's that subtle.
Hmm.
Your spirit gives you, when something doesn't feel quite right, it's when the vibes are off.
(04:21):
Not because someone healing is messy, but because someone ego is loud.
And trust me, I've had a few moments like this, including witnessing a so-called spiritual teacher, someone who is known for their metaphysical wisdom.
Cuss out their followers online.
I'm talking about full on verbal assault, venom and the voice energy hot with entitlement.
(04:44):
Now listen, I understand everyone has a bad day, but when your spiritual leader turns into a spiritual bully, that's not enlightenment, that's ego dressed in sage and smoke, and so.
I was like, this episode, I, I, I have to find a way to approach this because there are a lot of people on their spiritual journey and they look to other people.
(05:05):
They go to these shops and they put pretty much their healing in their hands, which you shouldn't do.
We're gonna talk about that later on in this episode.
But that is kind of how this episode came to, because I thought about that moment, and I, I often think about the people that go into that store.
I don't know if the person still works there, but.
(05:25):
If that person even was a tarot reader, like him helping somebody with his energy, not even right and being comfortable talking about assault and abuse, which I believe was, he was talking about one of his coworkers, um, that could be really, really triggering somebody who was already coming in there looking for some sort of help.
so.
Let's talk about the growing discomfort in today's spiritual landscape.
(05:48):
You know what used to be rooted in service, compassion, and transformation has in some corners become a glossy money grab.
We're seeing.
$2,000 retreats that serve salads and vs.
We're seeing $500 tarot readings with no real insight and crystal sets being marked up like they are diamonds at Tiffany's.
(06:10):
There's also people gatekeeping like birth charts, shadow work, and even ancestor altars because they're saying, Hey, you gotta pay me for this information.
Now, don't get me wrong, don't get me wrong.
I believe people deserve to be paid for their energy.
Let's make that clear because again, I myself read tarot from time to time, especially for people who, need it.
(06:31):
I do have tarot clients that pay me, but I'm not overcharging them.
Okay.
So I understand that I believe people should get paid for their energy, their craft, their wisdom, especially the marginalized healers who had their practices stolen or watered down by mainstream but we can't pretend that some of this isn't exploitive.
(06:51):
Or worse, emotionally manipulative.
What we need is a return to spiritual integrity because the sacred is not for sale.
Your healing journey isn't a trend, and spiritual work isn't just an aesthetic.
It really is a responsibility.
Okay.
Alright.
Alright.
Alright.
Lemme take a breath to fresh air because I feel like going back to that moment, I got a little bit, ugh, myself, a little, little bit like annoyed again, just thinking about that moment.
(07:19):
Alright.
Now that I've pulled the curtains back a bit, I want to remind you of something.
Your spiritual path is yours.
Okay? I'm gonna keep coming back to this.
Your spiritual path is yours.
There is no one size fits all method.
No guru, no reader, no shop can define what healing should look like for you.
Remember that if your spiritual journey is quiet, private slope, that's beautiful.
(07:44):
If it's colorful, ancestral, chaotic and rich with ritual, that's sacred too.
If you're just learning what a natto chart even is, that is still valid.
The problem isn't the path.
It's when we let someone else convince us we're doing it wrong, because we're not buying what they're selling.
And that is the whole point of this podcast episode because again, a lot of times we look.
(08:08):
For help when we're on this journey, I've been a source of help for people as people have been a source of help for me.
And I remember when people started to call me their spiritual guru, they was like, you're my spiritual guru.
I like to title myself as your spiritual friend.
I'm not anyone's guru because my path don't look like yours, but I will share the tools I have with you if you have questions or if there's a hump you're trying to get over internally and I can help.
(08:33):
I'm gonna help you because that's what we are here to do.
We're supposed to be light workers, and I believe.
Those of us that consider ourselves healers, go about helping people, you know, not just as a money grabber, right? Now let's talk about the differences between the real and performance in the spiritual, in the spiritual world, because it matters, real spirituality.
(08:54):
I'm gonna remind you.
This is me.
This is my point of view.
Okay.
All right.
So just need to say that to me.
Real spirituality, it is quiet at times.
And messy.
It's not always candle lit and cinematic.
Sometimes it's you sobbing on the floor at 3:00 AM after pulling the same tarot car three nights in a row.
Sometimes it's you holding a piece of black tourmaline like your life depends on it, or sometimes it's praying to anyone who listen.
(09:20):
Sometimes it's joy.
It's laughing in your car after a breakup of feeling a peace in your bones for the first time in months.
You know, like that release when people say it felt like a ton of bricks was lifted.
Sometimes it's that performance.
Spirituality, on the other hand, is curated.
It's perfectly placed crystals for the camera.
It's reciting mantras without embodiment.
(09:43):
It's selling healing without walking a path.
And while it's.
Aesthetics aren't bad because I'm all for the aesthetics.
We love beauty here.
When they replace depth, something sacred gets lost.
All right.
so I want you to take that into consideration when you're trying to figure out what performative, spirituality is versus what real spirituality is.
(10:05):
Because if someone is more interested in selling you something than sitting with you in your humanity, that's not healing.
That is marketing.
And I could tell you that for a fact.
Alright.
I.
Now I want to try to ground this conversation with actual tools because it's one thing to say, do the inner work, and it's another thing entirely to give you a map.
(10:27):
Here's how you can build a beautiful, honest, spiritual practice using tarot, crystals, birth charts, and numerology.
I'm not going to go deeply into these things because I feel like if I was, this episode would probably be three hours long.
But, I actually might do separate episodes about each of them.
I know I have an episode about the tarot, the, the major Ana, but I probably need to go into, do an episode about numerology.
(10:53):
I have a video on YouTube about crystals, but I probably need to do a episode about that and birth charts.
That's easy.
You could find that.
Alright, so we're gonna start with tarot because I believe tarot is pretty much just a conversation with yourself.
Tarot isn't about predicting a future.
It's about listening, and I think a lot of people need to understand that each car is a mirror, a message, a whisper from your subconscious.
(11:16):
And if you approach tarot with honesty and sincerity, it become a sacred dialogue with yourself, with your deeper self and your subconscious.
Here's some tips.
Start simple.
Pull one card a day.
That's how I did it.
Pull one card a day.
Ask yourself before you pull the card, what energies do I need to understand today? Terror should guide you, not dominate you.
(11:38):
You already know the cars just echo it.
You already know what you need to hear, but when you pull a card out, it's just echoing what you already know.
Also journal your pulls.
Write what you feel immediately.
So pull a card.
Let's say you pull the hermit card immediately.
Write down what you feel because what you feel is more valid than what the book interpretation is.
(12:02):
Again, this is your journey.
It doesn't look the same, as anybody else's.
Now the book for OT is there to give you guidelines, but I think how you feel about the card is more important.
That's my personal approach.
All right.
So here's some cards to sit with.
If you just want to dip your toe in it before you start randomly pulling cards, pull the high priestess that and sit with that card.
(12:24):
That card means trusting your intuition.
Alright? The tower card, that means letting go old structures, things are collapsing.
The star card, that's healing and hope.
The hermit car, which is one of my favorites, and it's, I'm actually in hermit mode now.
That means solitude.
You're.
Isolating yourself to gain your spiritual nourishment to talk to yourself.
(12:46):
You don't need to buy a deck with gold edges and a velvet lining.
Get one that feels right to you, like, you know, something that feels like home.
I started with the writer's deck.
It was the original deck, but I do suggest you going to a metaphysical store and see which cards jump out at you because it's your journey.
So you don't have to pick a fancy deck, you don't have to spend a lot of money.
(13:08):
Just go with what feels right to you.
Now we're gonna move on to crystals, because crystals are more than pretty stones.
They carry a frequency.
Again, I have a YouTube video.
About this, just go to London, Bambi on YouTube if you wanna see the full video.
and I give a lot of great tips and go into details about the frequency of crystals because they do vibrate at their own um, level.
(13:32):
Now, when you use crystals, you have to use them intentionally.
They can be powerful anchors for your emotion and your energetic healing.
Again, the best way to get your own crystals, go to the crystal store and see which crystals speak to you because they do speak to you.
But if you don't want to go that route and you want some recommendations, I will say start out with black tourmaline, because that is a crystal used for protection grounding, and especially when your life is.
(13:57):
Really chaotic and you can carry it into chaotic spaces.
Let's say work is tough for you, carry it to work, it adds an extra layer to your aura for protection.
Rose quartz, which I carry, use that to be gentle with yourself.
Rose Court is the crystal for love, so it's not only for love to receive, love is for self love as well, and it kind of helps you give love.
(14:20):
It softens you up.
Clear chords.
Now this a, this is an amplifier.
You compare this with other stones to strengthen it and to, um, make their energy a little bit more vibrant.
All right, and an amethyst.
Now amethyst, you're going to hold for intuition.
You could put it on, on in your pillow for sleep and just for spiritual clarity.
(14:40):
Hold them when you're meditating.
You could also create small little altars around your home.
I have crystals kind of placed in different corners of my home, or you could just carry one in your pocket when you're feeling nervous or overwhelmed.
But remember, remember, crystals don't heal you.
They support your healing.
The real work is still internal.
(15:01):
Alright, now we're gonna move on to our birth chart.
Now your birth chart is, I would like to look at your birth chart as, I would say like your spiritual DNA.
And the easiest way to start out with the birth chart, because birth charts can be really layered.
There are people who can professionally read them.
Again.
Be careful who you go to.
(15:21):
Make sure you're vibing with them and feel comfortable, and make sure you, you don't feel like you're being taken advantage of.
But if you just wanna start out before you get a full birth chart, just focus on a big three and that is your sun sign, which is your core essence.
That's what's drive you, your moon sign.
That's your emotional world.
What soothes or like, kind of shakes you? Your rising side, that's your like outer self, how you enter the room and how people see you first.
(15:49):
Okay.
So you could use apps if you want to kind of play around with the birth chart that would put this together for you for free.
I have one called CoStar and there is another one called Patterns.
Alright.
And again, remember, astrology is a language.
It's not a sentence.
You are not bound by this information that you will receive.
(16:10):
Okay? It's, it's it, it does matter, but don't think you're stuck.
Just like I tell people, tarot is just ink on cardboard.
It just echoes your subconscious.
These are tools of divination.
The everything you need to know is within you.
We're using these tools to help pull out the best of us and to help.
(16:30):
Get the answers we already know to draw our attention to that part of our subconscious we may be ignoring.
All right, now let's talk about numerology, the power in numbers.
Okay? Because numbers speaks to, and I do believe the p, the universe speaks in numbers.
So some people, they see 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3.
(16:51):
4, 4, 4 numbers.
They're big and they're real numbers vibrate at a certain frequency as well.
Even the number you were born with.
Alright? And so that is your birthdate.
Your birthdate carries your vibration, and what that carries is your life path number.
So we're gonna start in numerology with your life path number.
(17:12):
And your life path number again, is like your spiritual DNA.
This is how you calculate your life path number.
Add every digit in your full birth date until you get a single number.
Example.
For instance, let's say your birthday is March 5th, 1990.
You're going to add three.
Plus five plus one plus nine, plus nine plus zero.
(17:36):
And that equals what? 27.
All right.
And so then you're gonna take the two and a seven and you're going to boil it down to a single digit, and that equals nine.
That would mean that your life path number is nine, if that was your birthday.
Okay.
To give you a bit of guidance on what these numbers mean, because again, I feel like I would have to do a whole different podcast episode on numerology.
(17:58):
I would just start off with some of the basic and popular numbers.
So we'll start off with my life path number.
I'm a life path one, and that number means leadership.
I'm an initiator, and I'm pretty bold.
So if you follow me online, you can see some of my content.
it could be a bit intense.
You say, I have a lot of projects going on.
I initiate a lot.
if you are a Life Path three, that is a creative number.
(18:20):
So you're creative, expressive, you are, you are a speaker.
If you are a Life Path five now, that is a free number.
That's free spirit, a change maker.
If you are a Life Path seven, now that is a spiritual seeker and that person is a deep thinker.
And if you are a Life Path nine, that person is an old soul.
They are here to serve and to complete cycles because in Numerology nine mean completion your life path number doesn't tell you who to be.
(18:49):
It tells you what your soul came here to learn.
All right, so I came here to learn how to be a better leader, how to initiate stuff, how to be bold.
Like one of my issues in his life is I can't shrink.
There's been times in my life where, and I talk about this on previous podcast episodes, where I wanted to be invisible, but if you see me in person, for some reason, my life don't work out that way.
(19:11):
I'm not the one that could be invisible.
I'm the one that if we're on the train and there are, let's say.
10 people on there, meaning that it's enough room for us to spread out and have our own row of seats.
I will sit down and somebody will come and sit next to me and ignore the other 30 seats that's available.
So really dig into your life path number and outta this podcast.
(19:32):
This is the section that I really want you guys to focus on, it's easy.
Just add the numbers of your birthday up and then you'll get your LifePath number.
Look it up online, what does this number mean? And there'll be a lot more information for you.
before I continue this podcast, I wanna say this.
If you're new to this, I want to say you are not late.
Okay? If you're skeptical, that's healthy.
(19:54):
Just like I said, you shouldn't believe everything that comes outta everybody's mouth.
And even with me, you should do research and if you've been hurt in the spiritual spaces, which is what, initiated this episode.
I wanna let you know I see you.
I'm really making this for you.
Okay? If you happen to be, have been in that shop the same day I was in that shop and the guy was talking about taking poor Buddha, uh, that statue and smashing against his coworker head.
(20:19):
And it like fucking traumatized you.
I see you.
All right? And even if you're still looking for your thing, I want you to know it is okay.
You do not have to chant Sanskrit to be a spiritual person.
You don't have to know all the moon phases to be valid.
You don't even have to spend $500 on crystals to be real.
Your presence is enough, your intention is sacred, and your growth slow, fast, ugly, the vine is your proof.
(20:46):
So there we go.
Now, now that we've built you a solid foundation with the tools and truth, let's talk about what to watch out for because not everyone wearing like head wraps or singing, using singing bows is a healer.
Some folks are just performers with pretty words and empty roots because some of these people are very well spoken and they can really pull you in.
(21:11):
Trust me, I know.
Here are a few red flags I want you to be aware of.
All right.
The first, I'm gonna call ego in disguise.
If someone consistently centered themselves, their power, their gifts, their enlightenment, but really talks about your empowerment, beware.
Real leaders don't create followers.
They create leaders.
(21:31):
Note that shame based language is gonna be number two, any spiritual space that use guilt to control your decisions.
For example, if you are really aligned, you'll pay this amount or you're blocking your blessings if you don't buy this cleanse.
That is not rooted in love.
That's emotional manipulation.
And baby, that's not divine guidance.
(21:52):
I'm letting you know that now.
So moving on.
Number three, gatekeeping.
If someone acts like the spiritual wisdom is exclusive to them or their lineage as if you'll never be worthy without their approval, that's colonized hierarchy dressed up.
Again, I'm gonna say in Sage and Smoke.
True spirituality is generous.
(22:14):
Know that.
Number four, rage with no accountability.
Listen, as healers, we get mad.
We get mad, okay? Even healers get angry.
We are human.
But when someone lashes out regularly attacks others or use their platform to belittle, bully, dominate without ever checking their own behavior, that's not sacred rage.
(22:38):
That's un.
Resolved trauma.
Alright? And they're throwing temper tantrums.
Okay? And number five, my favorite, overpriced without integrity.
Again, I'm gonna be real with you and if you happen to be in this industry selling your spiritual gift, I wanna let, I want to let you know your gifts are valuable, your time, your wisdom.
(23:02):
That all deserves compensation.
But.
$700 for a candle and a downloadable PDF.
Crickets.
Crickets.
$10,000 for a retreat with no therapy or actual healing support.
No, that's not elevation.
That's exploitation.
(23:22):
Okay.
I need you guys to understand the difference.
Now we're gonna shift the focus back to you.
Gonna shift the my listeners, my beautiful ettes.
Look, your intuition is not broken.
You don't need to earn access to your higher self.
You were born with the ability to listen inward.
That's the key word inward.
(23:42):
Remember in previous episodes I talk about meditating a lot that can help you listen inward.
But for many of us, this world has taught us to ignore it.
They taught us to ignore inner our inner world.
They, they taught us to ignore listening to ourselves because of the noise on the outside.
So.
As the great Maxine Water says, reclaim my time, reclaim my time.
(24:08):
So let's reclaim it.
This is how you're gonna rebuild your relationship with your intuition.
First, this is gonna be hard.
We're gonna silence the noise, okay? We're gonna log off.
That means don't get on any of your apps, try to stay off the internet, limit your time with people.
(24:29):
The answers don't live in your feed.
They live in your body.
I'm just gonna be clear about that.
So you're gonna take about a few days.
If you need a week, do a week, however long you need.
Alright? I'm not going to like, set it for you.
I, my suggestion is to try to do it for two days.
To start off, and if you feel like you need longer, do it, like go no contact with being online, taking in information for the news.
(24:53):
If you're able to isolate yourself at home, do that and try to practice meditating for two minutes each morning.
Alright, and then you could move on to the next step, which is after you reenter the world, after your little hermit mode, you're going, I want you to notice how people feel.
Keyword feel.
Notice how people feel, not what they say, not what they post, but how their energy sits in your stomach.
(25:21):
Because trust me, your body doesn't lie.
So you're gonna notice how people feel.
You're not gonna listen to them.
You're gonna feel people out.
That may be hard, but you'll eventually get the hang of it.
And that's why it's important that you isolate yourself first, because you're coming back to yourself.
Alright? And that way when you go back into the world, you will have all of your senses.
strengthen.
Okay.
(25:42):
Now part three, we're gonna say start small talk.
Ask your intuition.
Simple things like, should I go here today? Do I really want this? Feel the answer.
It usually come fast before logic kicks in.
So ask yourself these questions.
Start with small, talk with yourself.
(26:03):
I'm a person to talk to myself.
I mean, technically.
Before you guys was listening, I was talking to myself on this podcast.
I'm just recording.
I'm in a room.
I guess by right now, talking to myself, it's important to develop this relationship with yourself, and I know a lot of us have been told to cut that off because if you have been seen talking to yourself or people know you're talking to yourself.
(26:24):
Stuff they're gonna say, you're crazy.
You're crazy.
No.
Ask yourself these questions again.
Should I go here today? Do I really want this? Do I need this? How do I feel about this? And you'll get an answer pretty quickly, but you have to fill your answer out before the logic kicks in because your logic will trick you out of the answer you no.
And then I'm want you to write your own truths.
(26:45):
Keep a notebook of your intuitive hits.
Okay? Track how often you are, right? Because you're gonna find out you use when you listen to yourself.
You usually are right most of the time.
And last but not least, forgive yourself for missing red flags.
You weren't blind, you were learning, and you are wiser now.
(27:05):
Check it.
You don't need to be a psychic to be powerful.
You just have to listen, really listen to the voice that's been whispering all alone.
Okay.
Alright.
I feel like we getting through this episode, and I, I feel like I'm being clear.
This is one of my favorite subjects to talk about spirituality.
So yeah, this episode may be go past a little past 30 minutes.
(27:28):
All right.
Now we're gonna talk about gentleness.
Spiritual growth is not about a race.
It's not an aesthetic.
It's not about how many terms you know, or how many workshops you've taken.
It's about becoming more, you stripped of the noise, the stories, the shame, and the the, the false information you've been fed or been telling yourself.
(27:49):
There will be days you feel lost.
Alright, and that's how you know you're really on this journey.
You will feel lost.
I remember those days, there'll be, there'll be days you regress, there'll be days, you're tired of doing the work, and that is okay.
You are allowed to be both divine and deeply human.
Be gentle with yourself.
Forgive the old version of you.
(28:11):
Celebrate the small shifts, take, breaks, breathe.
You're still healing even when it doesn't look poetic.
I need you to understand how important it is that you be gentle with yourself on this journey because you're going to need it all right.
Now.
Now, now I'm comfortable saying we are here.
We are here at the end of our Sacred Side Eye episode.
(28:35):
This episode, again, I need to reiterate this.
Like I said in the beginning, this episode wasn't meant.
To shame the spiritual world, because I'm a part of it.
It's meant to protect it.
That's what I really wanna do to bring us back to why we even stepped onto this path in the first place.
To feel, to connect, to remember, to reclaim the parts of ourselves the world tried to bury.
(28:57):
It's not about crystals or charts, so even tarot.
Again, those are tools of divination, the real magic, and this is the gag.
You ready? You ready? The real magic is you.
Okay.
I said all that to say this.
The real magic is you.
It's your willingness to turn inward, your ability to hold your own shadow, your courage to open your heart again and again, even when it's been bruised.
(29:24):
So.
In this episode, if you like it, I want you to take what resonates with you.
Leave what doesn't trust your gut, your guides, your God, whatever the name you called it, whatever brings you peace.
like trust that, and all of the above, I want you to remember, you are not behind, you are not broken.
You are not an excerpt from a page of someone else's book on how to, you know, go about this healing journey.
(29:54):
Your soul has its own story and it's meant to be uniquely.
Made for you.
Okay? You are creating your story as you go along each day.
All right, guys, huh? That's it for today's episode of The Hood Debutante.
I hope I gave you something to chew on.
I want you to be able to really, really reflect on this, and I want you to carry this information with Grace.
(30:17):
And again, if it resonated with you, please share this, send it to someone who was healing.
Light a candle for yourself tonight, or better yet, just rest.
Because sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is just be and just rest.
All right.
The new kids, I believe call it bed rotten.
the other day I said I was gonna do that, um, and I actually bed rotted and it was nice 'cause that's all I wanted to do.
(30:41):
It was a spiritual thing for me to just rest.
All right guys, until next time, stay divine.
Stay discerning, and.
Stay in your power.
Okay.
I am your host, London Bambi.
Thank you.
Thank you again for listening to another episode of The Hood Debutante.
I really, really appreciate you guys.
(31:01):
I really, really do and until next week, I'm signing off.
Bye.
