What It Means to Be Set Free

Freedom isn’t doing whatever you want—it’s being who God created you to be. In this episode, we talk about what true freedom looks like in Christ, what we’ve been set free from, and how to live as someone no longer bound by sin, shame, or fear. If Jesus set you free, don’t live like you’re still in chains. 🙌

Welcome back to the JESUS LOVES U podcast, where we talk all things Jesus, faith, and freedom.

(00:07):
Today we’re talking about what it really means to be set free.
Not just emotionally or mentally.
—but spiritually.
eternally.
Because when Jesus sets you free, you’re no longer the same.
⸻ Let’s start with John 8:36.
– “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
” That’s not just a feel-good quote—it’s a spiritual reality.

But what exactly are we set free from?
• Sin.
– Romans 6:18 says we’ve been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
Before Jesus, we were chained to sinful desires we couldn’t escape.
But now?
We have a new nature.
We’re not slaves anymore.
• Shame and Guilt.

(00:50):
– Psalm 103:12 says,“As far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
” Some of you listening carry shame for things God already forgave.
Freedom in Christ means you no longer have to wear your past like a name tag.
That’s not your identity anymore.
• The Law’s Condemnation.

(01:11):
– Galatians 5:1 says, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
” Jesus didn’t save you so you’d walk on eggshells trying to earn His love.
He saved you so you could live in grace, obeying Him from love—not fear.
• Fear of Death.

– Hebrews 2:15 says Jesus came to “free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
” If you belong to Jesus, death doesn’t have the final word.
That’s true freedom.
⸻ Real Freedom Isn’t Doing Whatever You Want.
The world defines freedom as “doing whatever I feel.
” But that kind of freedom leads to addiction, regret, and pain.

True freedom is found in surrender.
Freedom is not the absence of boundaries.
—it’s living under the rule of a loving King who knows what’s best for you.
⸻ Practical Ways to Walk in Freedom.
1.
Renew Your Mind Daily.
– Romans 12:2.
Get in the Word and remind yourself of who you are in Christ.

Reject Lies with Truth.
– 2 Corinthians 10:5.
Don’t let the enemy convince you you’re still chained when God already broke the lock.
3.
Liv by the Spirit.
– Galatians 5:16.
Freedom grows as you walk with the Holy Spirit, not your flesh.
4.
Speak it out.

– Revelation 12:11.
says we overcome by the word of our testimony.
Tell people what Jesus set you free from!
⸻ Freedom in Christ is not just a concept.
It’s a new life.
So, if you’re feeling bound.
—by shame, by sin, by addiction, by fear—call on Jesus.
He’s the Deliverer.

He didn’t just come to forgive you.
He came to free you.
Let’s pray.
⸻ Jesus, thank You that You came to set the captives free.
Thank You that You broke the chains of sin, shame, and death.
Help us walk in that freedom,live by Your Spirit,and never return to the bondage You delivered us from.
Remind us daily that who the Son sets free is free indeed.
