Hey Fam, welcome back to the JESUS LOVES U podcast.
(00:04):
Today we’re answering a super common question.
“Where should I start reading in the Bible?
” If you’ve ever opened the Bible and felt overwhelmed by the size of it,
or confused by what you’re reading—you’re not alone.
Let’s talk about where to begin and why it matters.
⸻ 1.
Start with the Right Goal.
Before you even pick a book, ask yourself.
(00:25):
Am I reading the Bible to know about God—or to actually know Him?
The Bible isn’t just information.
It’s revelation.
It shows us who God is, how He loves, what He’s done—and most importantly—who Jesus is.
So, the best place to start is with a heart that says, “God, I want to know You.
” ⸻ 2.
The Best Starting Place (00:45):
The Gospel of John.
If you’re new to the Bible, I always recommend starting with the Gospel of John.
Why?
• John focuses on who Jesus is—His identity as the Son of God.
• It’s written so that you may believe and have eternal life.
(John 20:31).
• You’ll see Jesus’ miracles, His love, His teachings, and His sacrifice.
(01:10):
If you want to know the heart of God—start with Jesus.
Start with John.
⸻ 3.
What’s Next After John?
Here’s a simple path you can follow.
• John – to meet Jesus.
• Romans – to understand salvation.
• Genesis – to see how everything began.
• Psalms – for raw, honest prayers.
(01:30):
• Proverbs – for daily wisdom.
• Acts – to see how the early Church lived after Jesus rose again.
You don’t have to read the whole Bible in order.
It’s okay to skip around and grow piece by piece.
⸻ 4.
Tips for Reading the Bible.
• Pray first.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand.
• Use a translation you can understand.
(01:52):
(ESV, NLT, or CSB are great options.
) • Don’t rush.
One chapter a day is better than ten you don’t remember.
• Write it down.
Keep a journal.
Ask.
What is this teaching me about God?
What should I do with it?
⸻ 5.
You’re Not Alone.
Reading the Bible isn’t a test.
(02:12):
—it’s a relationship.
Some days it’ll feel clear.
Other days, you may feel confused.
That’s okay.
Just keep showing up.
God promises His Word will not return empty.
(Isaiah 55:11).
And if you ever get stuck.
—ask questions.
Message someone you trust.
Even message this podcast—we’re in this together.
(02:35):
⸻ Fam, the Bible isn’t just a book.
It’s God’s voice on paper.

He really does.
Talk to you soon.
