How to Use ‘Let Them Theory’ for Personal Growth – 5 Tips
Hi, I’m Judy Croon—comedian, speaker, stress-buster, and someone who occasionally forgets to let people be wrong in peace. But I’m working on it.
Recently, I came across a concept that hit me right between the chakras—“Let Them Theory,” popularized by author and speaker Mel Robbins.
The idea is simple, brilliant, and a total stress reliever: If people want to do something… let them. Let them talk. Let them walk. Let them misread your email tone. Let them eat soup with a fork. Let. Them. It’s not about being passive—it’s about being free.
So here are 5 ways to use Let Them Theory to reduce stress, grow personally, and maybe—just maybe—stop arguing with your cousin on Facebook.
#5 – Let Them Think You're Nuts You told your coworker you’re trying “Niksen”—a Dutch practice of doing absolutely nothing—and they looked at you like you grew a second head. Let them. Your growth doesn’t need their permission. Sometimes the best ideas look weird at first. So does oat milk.
#4 – Let Them Be Messy Your friend is always late. Your colleague overshares. That one family member always brings up politics at dinner. Let them. You can set boundaries without turning into a hall monitor. Letting people be who they are gives you space to be who you are, too.
#3 – Let Them Misunderstand You You tried to explain your big dream—your comedy, your business, your side hustle—and someone replied with, “That’s cute.” Let them. You’re not here to win everyone over. You’re here to grow, evolve, and maybe prove them wrong later—politely and with receipts.
#2 – Let Them Go Some people are just... not your people. And that’s okay. If someone exits your life when you set a boundary or stand in your truth, don’t chase them. Let them. Growth creates space—and sometimes that space is better without the drama.
#1 – Let Yourself Rise
Here’s the secret: Let Them Theory isn’t really about them. It’s about you. Letting people be who they are gives you the freedom to stop controlling, overexplaining, people-pleasing, and spiraling. So let them... and let yourself step into peace, confidence, and growth. Because the truth is: when you stop trying to manage everything around you, you start managing you. And that’s where the magic happens.
