Paul Cruz (00:05):
Welcome to the Neurodiversity Voices podcast,
where we celebrate and amplifythe unique perspectives and
experiences of neurodiverseindividuals. I'm your host, Paul
Cruz, and I'm thrilled to launchour podcast and to have you join
us on this journey. And I'm notalone joined by my four amazing

(00:25):
co hosts, Livia Ward, TataraPuteaux, Karen Habashi, and Gino
Akbar.

Livia Ward (00:32):
Everyone, like Paul said, my name is Liv, and I'm
just in my last semester at UBCfor my bachelor's degree where
I'm studying psychology andEnglish literature. And as my
degree indicates, I love people,I love how they think, and I
love their stories. My familyhas always been quite involved
in the neurodivergent community, and I have seen and felt how

(00:53):
isolating feeling different canbe. So I feel extremely
privileged to be here to listento neurodivergent people tell us
about how they walk through theworld.

Letara Couto (01:02):
Everyone, I'm Letara Couto, and I can't wait
to dive into the world ofneurodiversity with everyone. As
a learning strategist andadaptive technologist, I work
closely with neurodiversestudents to help them embrace
their strengths and find toolsthat actually work for them. I
also was diagnosed with ADHDwhen I was 12, but didn't really

(01:22):
explore anything, until I gotolder. And I also want to talk
about parenting withexperiencing neurodiversity as
well. I'm excited to lean into

Karen Habashi (01:45):
understand ADHD. I'm an Egyptian living in
Canada, so there's a lot of, Ithink, lack of experience or
stories from my community, and Ican't wait to share my own
experience and learn from otherpeople's stories and guests. I'm
also a dentist turned writer, soI have a passion for stories and

(02:06):
storytelling, and I can't waitto learn more and dive into this
podcast and share ourexperience. Thank you.

Gino Akbari (02:14):
Hi. I am glad to be invited to be part of the New
York Diversity Voices podcast. My name is Jean Akhari, one of
your co hosts. I've spent mostof my life helping people
develop the skills they need tonavigate life's challenges. I've
worked in the military, been anathlete, a business owner, and
my interest took me to getcertified in cognitive behavior

(02:37):
therapy, hypnotherapy, NLP, andcontinuing on down that road.
And I suppose what really drivesme is we will be talking a lot
about neurodiversity of thisprogram as how to support,
understand, advocate forneurodiverse individuals. I
think where my learning willcome in is what about the people

(02:58):
who support them? The parents, partners, friends, and
caregivers. How do they takecare of themselves so they can
show up as their best selves fortheir loved ones? I'm looking
forward to this podcast, whichwill be about real
conversations, practical tools, and a little bit of humor along
the way, I hope.
Thank you.

Paul Cruz (03:16):
In each episode, we'll explore the challenges,
triumphs, and everydayexperiences of those who think
and perceive the worlddifferently. We'll hear from
inspiring guests, includingadvocates, experts, and
researchers, authors, andspeakers, and neurodiverse
individuals themselves, who willshare their stories, insights,

(03:38):
and strategies for thriving in aneurotypical world.

Livia Ward (03:41):
If you're a neurodiverse yourself, a family
member, a friend, or an ally, this podcast is for you. Our
goal is to foster understanding, acceptance, and empowerment for
all neurodiverse voices.

Letara Couto (03:52):
This podcast means so much to me because I know
what it's like to feelmisunderstood or unsupported,
and also what it's like to findyour voice. And now as a
neurodivergent mom raising twoneurodivergent kids, that
mission feels even morepersonal. Parenting through ADHD
sensory overload is real andit's hard, but there's so much
beauty in learning how tosupport each other.

Karen Habashi (04:14):
Thanks for listening and don't forget to
like, subscribe and comment onany platform you listen to
podcasts on. And don't forget toshow love to our social media,
whether Facebook, Instagram orYouTube.

Gino Akbari (04:25):
So sit back, relax, and get ready to be inspired.
