Good morning, NYU community! It's Monday, August 25, 2025, and here's what's happening on campus and around the city this week. First up, a warm welcome to all our new and returning students! This past weekend, NYU hosted its annual Welcome Weekend on both the Washington Square and Brooklyn campuses. Students moved into residence halls, explored the campus, and connected with various university departments. For those who missed the festivities, don't worry—there are plenty of upcoming events to help you get acclimated and meet fellow students. Be sure to check the NYU Mobile App for the full schedule of Welcome Week activities. In academic news, we're excited to announce that Bharat Anand has officially assumed his role as the 11th Dean of NYU's Stern School of Business. Dean Anand brings a wealth of experience from his previous position as Vice Provost at Harvard University. We look forward to his leadership and the innovative initiatives he plans to introduce at Stern. Looking ahead, mark your calendars for the 2025 New York Film Festival, set to begin on September 26. This year's festival will feature a diverse lineup of films, including the Spotlight Gala selection, "Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere," directed by Scott Cooper. Film enthusiasts won't want to miss this exciting event. For those interested in the arts, the Small Press Flea is returning to Brooklyn this Saturday, August 30. Organized by BOMB Magazine, this annual outdoor fair showcases independent presses, literary magazines, and zine makers. It's a fantastic opportunity to discover unique publications and support local artists. Sports fans, take note: the US Open Tennis Championships kick off today at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. The tournament runs through September 7 and promises thrilling matches featuring the world's top tennis players. If you have the chance, consider attending a match or two to experience the excitement firsthand. And finally, don't forget to check out the various events happening around the city this week. From concerts and theater performances to art exhibitions and cultural festivals, there's always something to explore in New York City.
