**DISCLAIMER: Please note that the views of our podcast guests may not always align with the views of Nutritank** We are delighted to bring you the first episode of our three-part series focusing on the connection between food and mood. This week we are joined by Dr Sabrina Mörkl, Psychiatrist specialising in Eating Disorders and approaches to Nutritional Psychiatry based in Austria and Megan Lee, Bachelor in Psychological science and current pHD student at Southern Cross University (Australia), studying dietary patterns and depression. We discuss a wide range of topics relating to the connection between the food that we eat and our mental health. Our guests discuss perceptions towards mental health in their respective countries, as well as the research being conducted into Nutritional Psychiatry. We further explore why diet has been overlooked in modern healthcare and what exactly the Mediterranean diet is, focusing in on pivotal studies such as the SMILES trial and HELFIMED trial, that explore the connection between principles of the Mediterranean diet and mental health. We also delve into recent research conducted into gut microbiome dysregulation and mental health. In particular, recent research has shown dysregulation in patients with Anorexia Nervosa, perhaps reframing the condition as a metabo-psychiatric disorder, rather than a psychiatric disorder alone? Please do listen to this episode to hear all the above and more from experts in the field, and what the future of research into nutritional psychiatry might look like. We hope that you learn and enjoy! ** WE APOLOGISE FOR POOR SOUND QUALITY IN PARTS OF THE AUDIO.
