What is metabolic syndrome and how does it affect the body?

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of symptoms that include:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood sugar
  • Excess body fat around the waist (apple and pear shaped bodies)

Having just one of these conditions doesn't necessarily mean you have metabolic syndrome but it could create a greater risk for type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Dr. Hansen talks about how common it is and some of the ways you can address it by making small, sustainable lifestyle changes.
