In an era marked by increasing polarization, political upheavals, and social conflicts, it’s hard to imagine a time when greater divisiveness existed in the United States and around the world.

In The Beginner’s Guide to Karma: How to Live with Less Negativity and More Peace (New World Library, October 29, 2024), authors Lama Lhanang Rinpoche and Mordy Levine explain the role that the universal law of cause and effect, or karma, played in creating the current state of affairs and offer a positive path forward from here.

“Learning about karma will help us understand why we are experiencing this contentiousness so broadly and deeply,” write Rinpoche and Levine. “But more important, understanding karma will allow us reduce anger and division among ourselves, our community, our country, and the world.”

Delving into Buddhist scripture and tradition, The Beginner’s Guide to Karma offers a comprehensive outline of karma that incorporates psychology, ethics, and metaphysics. Using everyday language and real-life examples, the authors clear away myths, illustrate how karma works in daily life, and offer daily practices to build positive karma.
