Amateur Sports are Dead - Weekend Recap - June 9th 2025

The Sports Guyz review another crazy weekend of sports, leading off with the huge news story regarding the House Settlement of the NCAA lawsuit brought by retired college athletes asking for back pay.  The Settlement was very comprehensive, setting up a back payment system back to 2016, installing a new "salary cap" in college athletic programs that are salaries that can be paid directly to athletes by the schools and a new "clearinghouse" system for NIL deals for all athletes.  We go into many different angles and ramifications of this ground-breaking settlement and what it will do to college sports.

Next, we take a look at the NBA and NHL Finals series, both of which are tied 1-1 and are as competitive as we expected.  The basketball and hockey played so far has been really exciting.  We also get into some NFL off-season stories, including the signing of Aaron Rodgers by the Pittsburgh Steelers and we discuss what impact he might have in his division.

Finally, we look at the college baseball teams that are headed to Omaha and the College World Series.  The baseball has been really exciting in the Super Regionals and there are some very surprising teams in the Final 8 headed to the series and some surprising big programs who got knocked out unexpectedly.
