Football Specialists Roundtable - Episode 64 | The Sports Guyz
The Sports Guyz along with guest host Brad Moore, are joined for the second time by Kicker Jackson Moore from Appalachian State University, this time a year later, to discuss his transition from University of Kentucky to kicking at App State. We discuss how his first year in Boone, NC went and what his goals are headed into his second season with the program.
We are also joined by Gabe Simpkins, Long Snapper on the App State team and good friend of Jackson's, and he gives us his perspective on this unique position on the field, and the challenges with long snapping on punts versus field goals and PATs.
Finally, we are joined by Michael Hughes, who finished up his 4-year career at App State as their kicker, and has been a mentor to Jackson as he settles in as the kicker, while give us a wrap up on his college career and tells us about his experiences so far working out in NFL rookie camps, trying to find a spot on an NFL roster as a kicker. We talk about how we hope he catches on with the Panthers, Raiders or Dolphins!
The Sports Guyz get a really good sense for the importance of special teams to a football program, which is not focused on enough for how vital it is to the outcome of games. We go over rules changes in the NCAA and NFL this coming season, as well as their training regimens in the off-seasons, their lifting and running routines and how they prepare for the season mentally. The guys take us through the coming game schedule for App State and tell us their goals for a 12-0 season and a conference title which is certainly possible.
