Originally, I didn't really plan on doing anything special, and then Melanie
mentioned she had this cap and gown,

No, no, no, that she ordered this cap and gown.

Sean (01:00):
which thanks to the snow in North Georgia caused
our recording to be delayed.
But after hearing that, I wasinspired and went on a mad dash
to several stores and Amazon

Melanie (01:15):
excited.

the weekend.

And I have some some things, so.
They'll be appearing.

So just some, some statistics for you.
I did did a little bit of data gathering.
Analyst in me.
Our first season 3 episodecame out July 29th.
And our last one was January 6th.

Which, it, when I was going through,because I went through today to get
all of our ratings, it was a lot.

We've done a full seasonalready with season two, but
I feel like this was a lot.

Well, season one wasn't like a full like 22,

A long season.

I know you haven't seen it.
There's a there's a character inthe first season of Heartstopper.
His name is Tao.
And he has very long hair that likecomes down and swoops out like this.
And that's what yours is reminding me of.

We had one convention wherewe had two days there and got
photos with five cast members.

You went to Dragon Con and met Seth Green.

I did.

Still jealous of that.

I'm not saying it, but you know.

One tasting episode, our Scooby Snacks, where it was
inspired by season two, but we.
Released during season three wherewe did our oreo tasting and one panel
where you asked the Buffy actors whowould survive on a survivor style show

And Julie Benz said hercause she'd eat everyone.

I understand more Anya saying with powers or without powers.
Yeah,

And I think that the characters on Buffy did too.

So like, let's start with Buffy.
What do you think shelearned from this season?
How did she change?

Melanie (04:22):
I hope that she learned to rely more on her friends, to be
open and honest with her friends.
I mean, we started this season with her,she had taken off, everybody, and there
was a lot of resentment from her friends,you know, and I guess, toward the end,
she had been voted class protector,and, and they, to embrace her more and

(04:48):
hopefully she has learned to embracethem and let them in a little more

Sean (04:52):
What about what about her Attempting to kill someone.
How do you think that impacted her?
With Faith.

Melanie (05:00):
You know,
She dipped her toe into that into the darkside a little bit this season, didn't she?
I don't know It'll be interesting tosee going forward if she's willing
to turn to that side a littlemore and use that in her slaying

Sean (05:16):
what about Joyce?
Did Joyce get better as a mom?
Did

Melanie (05:20):
Frickin

Sean (05:20):
get worse?

Melanie (05:21):
No, all I could think about is the Dead Man's Party episode
where she was like talking aboutit's so hard having Buffy back
and, you know, she's still awful.
No, she did try though, didn't she?
She, you know, by the end, even withthe ascension coming up, she was
like, I want to be here for you.
I want to support you.

Although Buffy still had to explain toher, no, that's not the right thing to do.

Sean (05:48):
Right.
She's there, you're gonna get killed.
I do think that Joyce finding outthat Buffy is a slayer and Coming to
terms with that did help improve theirrelationship because are you taking it?
You know, from Joyce's point of view,she just sees Buffy disappearing in the
middle of the night, coming home at allhours, and now there's a reason for it.

I mean, I'm sure itstresses her out a ton.

Melanie (06:12):
it's about Buffy letting people in to know.
What's really going on and and givingthem some trust and credit that they'll
be understanding and and supportive

Sean (06:28):
How about Willow?
I think we saw some growthfrom Willow this season.
Mm

Melanie (06:31):
coming more into her witchy self, isn't she?

Sean (06:34):
hmm.

Melanie (06:35):
And she lost her virginity this season.
That's big.

Sean (06:41):
I think we saw more confidence in her this season.
Even like from, it's one of my favoritescenes from the very first episode when
Andrew Hoelich climbs out of the thegrave and she, she's standing there
like, you want to get me big boy orwhatever she said her standing up to

faith in I think it was in choices.

Melanie (07:03):
Yeah.

you know, compared

Melanie (07:05):
her getting into her witchcraft is helping her with that, you know,
helping her like so far up to this point,she's been the tech person, you know,
like she's hacking into the systems,but now she's got a more active role.
You know, can really helpwith her spells and stuff.
That's good.

Sean (07:24):
to Xander,

Melanie (07:29):
Xander.

Sean (07:32):
I'm trying to, I'm trying to think of, you know, did he change?

Melanie (07:39):
I mean, he, he's kind of unlikable this season, you know,
cause first he cheats on Cordelia.
He has a good thing withCordelia and messes that up.
And then he gets into trouble whenhe's the Zeppo and he's trying to find
himself, but he's kind of a dink about it.
You know, I don't know.

Did we see that much development with him?
I mean,

Sean (08:03):
I'm trying to,

Melanie (08:04):
Cordelia in the prom episode and bought her dress and kind of was
decent about that, but I don't know.

Sean (08:11):
you know, you know, I'm glad they, they did reconcile towards the end
because I didn't, I mean, I'm with you.
He should not have cheated.
But.
I'm glad they came toterms by the end of it.
Still really haven't seen much of her yet,but I do think that Anya grew a little.

Melanie (08:32):
Yeah.
She, she, she's kind of funny, huh?
She's, she is trying to cometo terms with her situation.
It'll be interesting to see, I imagineshe has more screen time coming up it'll
be interesting to see how she develops,

Sean (08:44):
Yeah.

Melanie (08:45):
and if she gets her power back.

Sean (08:47):
Yeah.
What about Cordelia?

Melanie (08:49):
So, you know what was interesting?
I was kind of looking back at mynotes and everything, and the whole
Cordelia all of a sudden being poor,
that was kind of out of left field.
You know, her response to it, Iwouldn't say it's growth, it's just
more kind of, Petulant, I don't know.
So, I don't know.

Yeah, like this, there was a lot of stuffbetween her and Xander this, this season.
so it's kind of good that at the endthey had a little coming together.
It was okay.
A sweet moment.

Sean (09:25):
And I think last Oz.

Melanie (09:28):
Oz is just like, even keeled through the whole thing, right?
He did have a couple moments like whenthey were gonna trade Willow for the box.

Sean (09:36):
Yeah.

Melanie (09:37):
he what did he say?
He smashed something.

Sean (09:40):
That's like a cauldron that they were, they were brewing.

Melanie (09:43):
and, yeah.
And then he made his move on,on Willow, that was kind of,
you know, he was panicking.
But, you know, he's, he's great.
He's great.
And I guess he'llgraduate next year, right?
Or did he graduate?

Sean (09:57):
He graduated with them.

Melanie (09:58):
Okay, so they're all graduated now.
Okay, that's good.
Yep.

Sean (10:02):
Off to college they go.

Melanie (10:04):
Well, or working.
Who knows?

Yeah.

Let's touch on the episodes a little bit.

So Episode one, Anne.

Buffy ran away at the end of season two.

Worked as the waitress.

And then she met Lily and Lily's boyfriend

We found out it was actually Chanterelle, mushroom girl.

Yeah,

Melanie (10:33):
And they got involved with like a cult of like homeless people.
Right.
And then it turns out thatthey were using up the homeless
people till they were just husks.
They were no one.

Sean (10:48):
kicking them back out into our world for them to die.
Yeah, we our ratings werepretty, pretty split.
I was a four you were a two.

Melanie (11:00):

Sean (11:02):
When I was gathering the ratings today, I was like,

What if Buffy never raninto Lily Chanterelle?
Would she have ended up back in Sunnydale?

think she would have been pulled back to Sunnydale.
I think, I think somethingwould have pulled her back.
concern for her mother, perhaps,know or there would have been some
demon that found her eventually, youknow, because where was she like L.

or didn't we joke aboutit was sunny, Sunnyvale.

Sean (11:49):
Sunnyvale, yeah.
I always thought it was L.
A., but they never actually said it.

Melanie (11:53):
it was wherever it was, it was still not that far away.
And yeah, I tendril of evilwould have tendril of evil.
That's a good band name.
Ooh.

That is a good name.

and pulled her back in.
Yeah, I think so.
It's her destiny.

My still I think my favorite part of that episode was When she
says to the demon guy, Hey, youwant to see my impression of Gandhi?

And she whales on him with the club.
And then Lily said, Gandhi?
Well, you know, he was really pissed off.
And then she ended uphome at the end of it.

Melanie (12:42):
Yep, she handed off her grimy crappy apartment and her life.
As Anne, she handed itover to Chanterelle.
Be interesting to touchback with Chanterelle.
Like, where are they now?
Chanterelle's still workingat that little restaurant.

Yes, and it was the big party where Buffy was pissed
off at everybody and everybodywas pissed off at Buffy and we

my my favorite scene for that episode is Giles driving in the car.

And that's the one where Buffy Joyce, the the cat, the dead cat,

Oh, the zombie cat.
Yeah.

that Oz wanted to name Patches.

Our ratings were a littlecloser on this one.

When they're at homecoming,Faith is at the homecoming dance.

as a chaperone, which it, now knowing who she is and what
kind of person she is, perfect.
That's perfect that she's the chaperoneat the Sunnydale High homecoming.

Buffy and Cordelia battling it out for prom queen and which then led
to them being you know in the limoalone and Cordelia holding her own.
She had the spatula

That's right.

Yeah, Lyle's wife.

Oh, and I think we mentioned that to her when we, when we met her.

Oh yeah, so we questioned because, I mean, I think we even called the episode,
like, Spatula to the Abdomen, becausethat spatula is nowhere near the heart.

So at the beginning of this episode,the whole reason they're selling
the candy, Snyder is like puttingit, the pressure on the kids.
You're going to sell this candyto benefit the school, right?
Like, again, anotherexample of him forcing.
The school spirit on them.
Did he know at that point thatthe chocolate was tainted?

and yeah, this is the one with the hellhounds that are
being programmed by the 80s prommovies, awesome, plot device.

I, I enjoyed it very much.

Xander goes to the prom with Anya, which was some funny moments,
Anya having to adjust still to beinga, high schooler with no power and
wanting to go on a date with a boy.
It's all very confusing.
Emma, you did a good job portraying it.

Sean (51:26):
Then towards the end, after Buffy deals with the the
Demons there's a special awardgiven out to her by Jonathan.

Melanie (51:36):
who, you know, he took a week off, he took a week off.
He's, he got some counseling,goal oriented counseling.
They were like, what's yourgoal to not kill myself.
All right.
Well, don't kill yourself.
cured I'm going to school tomorrow.
I'm going to head up the prom committee.

Everything's great.

Sean (51:59):
Yeah, everybody wins.

At the very

Buffy does get to vote with Angel.
He shows up at the last minute, buthe's like, this doesn't change anything.

So like the rest of your life,that's going to be your prom memory.
He broke my heart so many times.
Oh, it's like Phantom of the Opera.

the crossbow made a comeback this season.

in this episode, she shoots Angel in the back with the crossbow
and they're all like, Oh, it's great.
She missed.
No, she she meant to hit him.
It was a poison arrow, baby.

Sean (53:17):
Laced with Killer of the Dead.
I think they called it.

Melanie (53:22):
And this is the one where the mayor takes another step in preparation.
He eats the spiders out of the box.
And oh, this is Buffy and Faith have,oh, well, they're stunt people, have
a big battle scene, big fight scene atthe apartment, and Buffy kills Faith.
But not

Sean (53:40):
Faith Falls.
Yeah, Faith Falls overthe side of the building.
Lands on a truck loaded with pallets.

Melanie (53:46):
Your friend is only mostly dead.

Sean (53:51):
And it just drives away.

Melanie (53:53):
go to Miracle Max.
Yep.
And this is it, the last episode.
Ah, Sean!
I think we ordered from the same store.

Sean (54:05):

All right, graduation daypart two, the big finish.

They know something's happening at graduation.
They know that the mayoris the guest speaker.
The volcanologist is dead.

We know that, or we find out thatthere's a cure for Angel, but
he has to drink from a slayer.

Sean (54:48):
Which is why Buffy was trying to get Faith.

Melanie (54:50):
and so

Sean (54:51):
Yep.

Melanie (54:51):
dead, so he's gonna have to drink from Buffy.
Oh man and she lets him,she, she says, do it.
she ends up in the hospital where, ah,frickin Faith is there in the hospital.
She's in a coma.
Mayor is actually at thehospital and sees Buffy, right?

Sean (55:13):
Yep.
Tries to strangle her.

Melanie (55:16):
right.
Strangle her.
Yep.
Yep.
Yep.
Yep.
So then we are at graduation.
Cause Buffy comes back, right?
She's fine.
Slayer strength, that intermittentslayer strength kicks in.
We're at the, we're at the graduation.
The mayor is giving his speech.

(55:38):
And then he transforms

Sean (55:42):
In an eclipse.

Melanie (55:43):
That's right.
There's an eclipse and hetransforms into the giant CGI worm.
And then the big pivotal moment.
Oh, what's this?
Oh, what are we doing?
Oh,
the students rise up.

(56:05):
And they're attacking andthey're fighting back.
I love it.
That was really great.
I loved that.
Mayor eats Snyder.

Sean (56:14):
Yep, he's gone.

Melanie (56:15):
eats Larry.

Sean (56:17):
Well, he didn't eat him, he whacked him with his tail, but Larry's dead.

Melanie (56:20):
He's dead.
And then they they lure him throughthe school, the abyss water all the
hallways and Giles blows up the school.

Sean (56:30):
Oh gosh!

Melanie (56:32):
Oh, gosh.
That was great.
That was a really good ending.
And then, you know, in thelittle epilogue part or whatever,
Wesley leaves and Angel leaves.
know, they have like one littlemoment of looking back, but yeah,
Angel's out, he's on to the next show.
Very satisfying ending, I would say.

Sean (56:50):
Yes, yeah.
You really enjoyed that fight scenewith all the students against the mayor.

Melanie (56:55):

All right, let me put my clothes back on, no more outfit changes.

I think like as far as like an over.

I wouldn't say it gets bad from here.
Like for me, I mean for me this one isreally the nostalgia because this was the
first one I watched all the way through.

What is gonna happen?

They're gonna have to get jobs.

Slayer when that previous one dies.
So she's not

No, she didn't pull a Buffy and like, die momentarily and they
brought her back into the coma.

dead.
Maybe they did?
And there's a new Slayercoming in Season 4.

Melanie (59:10):
Alright, what's gonna happen?
Buffy and Willow are goingto the same school, right?

Sean (59:14):
Yep, both go to UC Sunnydale.

Melanie (59:16):
I mean, they're in Sunnydale still, so they'll be forefront.
Willow will probably up her witchcraftgame and somehow there will be at
least one episode where a spellgoes awry and creates havoc in town.

Sean (59:31):
I think you can apply that to like any show with magic.

Melanie (59:34):

There'll be one episode where a spell goes wrong.

It's like horoscopes.
I'm gonna make it really general.

they'll all still be around thosethose four will be there anyway in

So, it's a Buffy episode and thenthe story crosses over into Angel.

I think the first season I was enjoying,enjoying poking holes in everything
and, you know, and making fun now.
And I think it's even at the end ofseason two, I was seeing that I was
enjoying watching, you know, I wasgetting a little more into the plot
lines because there is a plot line.
At least there's some arcs going onnow that weren't there in season one.
