-.Sean: Hello!
Welcome to the Sunnydale Diaries,a podcast where I, Sean,
And I,
Melanie (00:25):
Melanie.
Sean (00:27):
watch and discuss every
episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Today, we will be havingour Season 3 recap.
We'll be talking about the highs andlows of the season, our favorite,
Melanie (00:41):
both.
Sean (00:43):
our favorite and
least favorite episodes,
Melanie (00:46):
them.
Sean (00:47):
and we got some surprises in store.
Melanie (00:50):
excited.
Sean (00:52):
Originally, I didn't really plan on
doing anything special, and then Melanie
mentioned she had this cap and gown,
Melanie (00:58):
No, no, no, that she
ordered this cap and gown.
Sean (01:00):
which thanks to the
snow in North Georgia caused
our recording to be delayed.
But after hearing that, I wasinspired and went on a mad dash
to several stores and Amazon
Melanie (01:15):
excited.
Sean (01:16):
the weekend.
Melanie (01:16):
Yeah.
Sean (01:16):
And I have some some things, so.
They'll be appearing.
Melanie (01:20):
right.
Sean (01:22):
So just some,
some statistics for you.
I did did a little bit of data gathering.
Analyst in me.
Our first season 3 episodecame out July 29th.
And our last one was January 6th.
Melanie (01:37):
Yep.
Sean (01:38):
22 Buffy episodes.
Which, it, when I was going through, because I went through today to get
all of our ratings, it was a lot.
Thank you.
We've done a full seasonalready with season two, but
I feel like this was a lot.
Melanie (01:54):
we've done two full seasons.
Sean (01:56):
Well, season one
wasn't like a full like 22,
Melanie (02:00):
A long season.
My hat keeps falling off.
All right, I'm gonna sacrifice my hair.
Okay.
All right, you guys, thisis very nerdy looking.
Sean (02:14):
23 episode season.
Yeah.
I know you haven't seen it.
There's a there's a character inthe first season of Heartstopper.
His name is Tao.
And he has very long hair that likecomes down and swoops out like this.
And that's what yours is reminding me of.
Melanie (02:28):
this weird swoop thing going on.
That's okay.
Sean (02:30):
I like it.
Melanie (02:31):
all right, you guys.
deal
Sean (02:32):
And your your tassel
is on the right side.
Like everybody else's at graduation.
Except for Buffy who'shers on the other side.
We had one convention wherewe had two days there and got
photos with five cast members.
Melanie (02:46):
I had two conventions.
Sean (02:48):
That's right.
You went to Dragon Con and met Seth Green.
Melanie (02:50):
I did.
Sean (02:51):
Still jealous of that.
Melanie (02:53):
I'm not saying it, but you know.
Sean (02:55):
One tasting episode, our
Scooby Snacks, where it was
inspired by season two, but we.
Released during season three wherewe did our oreo tasting and one panel
where you asked the Buffy actors whowould survive on a survivor style show
Melanie (03:16):
Yeah.
And Julie Benz said hercause she'd eat everyone.
Sean (03:20):
Yeah,
Melanie (03:21):
I understand more Anya
saying with powers or without powers.
Yeah,
Sean (03:26):
so it's I mean
for six about six months
Melanie (03:29):
We've been
Sean (03:30):
It's been a lot.
Yeah.
Melanie (03:32):
I moved!
Sean (03:33):
Yeah.
Yeah, we
Melanie (03:34):
busy.
Sean (03:35):
transition from audio
only to audio and video
Melanie (03:39):
Yep.
Sean (03:40):
And if you are listening to audio,
which, and we love all our audio listeners
I mean, that is where the bulk of ourlistening, we're doing, comes from.
If you have the capability to watch thisone on YouTube, you probably should.
You need to get the visuals.
Melanie (03:55):
You're gonna miss all the
props and outfits, Sean promises me.
Lady Gaga.
Gaga's
Sean (04:02):
no meat,
Melanie (04:03):
changes.
Sean (04:03):
is no meat
Melanie (04:04):
No.
Sean (04:04):
dress
Melanie (04:05):
all right.
Sean (04:06):
So we've grown, we've changed,
Melanie (04:10):
Yes.
Sean (04:11):
And I think that the
characters on Buffy did too.
Melanie (04:15):
Yeah.
Sean (04:16):
So like, let's start with Buffy.
What do you think shelearned from this season?
How did she change?
Melanie (04:22):
I hope that she learned
to rely more on her friends, to be
open and honest with her friends.
I mean, we started this season with her,she had taken off, everybody, and there
was a lot of resentment from her friends, you know, and I guess, toward the end,
she had been voted class protector, and, and they, to embrace her more and
(04:48):
hopefully she has learned to embracethem and let them in a little more
Sean (04:52):
What about what about
her Attempting to kill someone.
How do you think that impacted her?
With Faith.
Melanie (05:00):
You know,
She dipped her toe into that into the darkside a little bit this season, didn't she?
I don't know It'll be interesting tosee going forward if she's willing
to turn to that side a littlemore and use that in her slaying
Sean (05:16):
what about Joyce?
Did Joyce get better as a mom?
Did
Melanie (05:20):
Frickin
Sean (05:20):
get worse?
Melanie (05:21):
No, all I could think about
is the Dead Man's Party episode
where she was like talking aboutit's so hard having Buffy back
and, you know, she's still awful.
No, she did try though, didn't she?
She, you know, by the end, even withthe ascension coming up, she was
like, I want to be here for you.
I want to support you.
(05:43):
Although Buffy still had to explain toher, no, that's not the right thing to do.
Sean (05:48):
Right.
She's there, you're gonna get killed.
I do think that Joyce finding outthat Buffy is a slayer and Coming to
terms with that did help improve theirrelationship because are you taking it?
You know, from Joyce's point of view, she just sees Buffy disappearing in the
middle of the night, coming home at allhours, and now there's a reason for it.
(06:10):
I mean, I'm sure itstresses her out a ton.
Melanie (06:12):
it's about Buffy
letting people in to know.
What's really going on and and givingthem some trust and credit that they'll
be understanding and and supportive
Sean (06:28):
How about Willow?
I think we saw some growthfrom Willow this season.
Mm
Melanie (06:31):
coming more into
her witchy self, isn't she?
Sean (06:34):
hmm.
Melanie (06:35):
And she lost her
virginity this season.
That's big.
Sean (06:41):
I think we saw more
confidence in her this season.
Even like from, it's one of my favoritescenes from the very first episode when
Andrew Hoelich climbs out of the thegrave and she, she's standing there
like, you want to get me big boy orwhatever she said her standing up to
(07:01):
faith in I think it was in choices.
Melanie (07:03):
Yeah.
I
Sean (07:05):
you know, compared
Melanie (07:05):
her getting into her witchcraft
is helping her with that, you know,
helping her like so far up to this point, she's been the tech person, you know,
like she's hacking into the systems, but now she's got a more active role.
You know, can really helpwith her spells and stuff.
That's good.
Sean (07:24):
to Xander,
Melanie (07:29):
Xander.
Sean (07:32):
I'm trying to, I'm trying to
think of, you know, did he change?
Melanie (07:39):
I mean, he, he's kind of
unlikable this season, you know,
cause first he cheats on Cordelia.
He has a good thing withCordelia and messes that up.
And then he gets into trouble whenhe's the Zeppo and he's trying to find
himself, but he's kind of a dink about it.
You know, I don't know.
(08:01):
Did we see that much development with him?
I mean,
Sean (08:03):
I'm trying to,
Melanie (08:04):
Cordelia in the prom episode
and bought her dress and kind of was
decent about that, but I don't know.
Sean (08:11):
you know, you know, I'm glad
they, they did reconcile towards the end
because I didn't, I mean, I'm with you.
He should not have cheated.
But.
I'm glad they came toterms by the end of it.
Still really haven't seen much of her yet,but I do think that Anya grew a little.
Melanie (08:32):
Yeah.
She, she, she's kind of funny, huh?
She's, she is trying to cometo terms with her situation.
It'll be interesting to see, I imagineshe has more screen time coming up it'll
be interesting to see how she develops,
Sean (08:44):
Yeah.
Melanie (08:45):
and if she gets her power back.
Sean (08:47):
Yeah.
What about Cordelia?
Melanie (08:49):
So, you know
what was interesting?
I was kind of looking back at mynotes and everything, and the whole
Cordelia all of a sudden being poor,
that was kind of out of left field.
You know, her response to it, Iwouldn't say it's growth, it's just
more kind of, Petulant, I don't know.
So, I don't know.
(09:12):
Yeah, like this, there was a lot of stuffbetween her and Xander this, this season.
so it's kind of good that at the endthey had a little coming together.
It was okay.
A sweet moment.
Sean (09:25):
And I think last Oz.
Melanie (09:28):
Oz is just like, even keeled
through the whole thing, right?
He did have a couple moments like whenthey were gonna trade Willow for the box.
Sean (09:36):
Yeah.
Melanie (09:37):
he what did he say?
He smashed something.
Sean (09:40):
That's like a cauldron that
they were, they were brewing.
Melanie (09:43):
and, yeah.
And then he made his move on,on Willow, that was kind of,
you know, he was panicking.
But, you know, he's, he's great.
He's great.
And I guess he'llgraduate next year, right?
Or did he graduate?
Sean (09:57):
He graduated with them.
Melanie (09:58):
Okay, so they're
all graduated now.
Okay, that's good.
Yep.
Sean (10:02):
Off to college they go.
Melanie (10:04):
Well, or working.
Who knows?
Sean (10:06):
Yeah.
Yeah.
True.
All right.
Let's touch on the episodes a little bit.
All right.
So Episode one, Anne.
Melanie (10:14):
Yep.
Sean (10:15):
Buffy ran away at
the end of season two.
Melanie (10:18):
Yep.
Sean (10:18):
Worked as the waitress.
Melanie (10:20):
Yep.
And then she met Lily and Lily's boyfriend
Sean (10:25):
Yep.
Melanie (10:27):
We found out it was
actually Chanterelle, mushroom girl.
Sean (10:32):
Yep.
Yeah,
Melanie (10:33):
And they got involved with
like a cult of like homeless people.
Right.
And then it turns out thatthey were using up the homeless
people till they were just husks.
They were no one.
Sean (10:48):
kicking them back out
into our world for them to die.
Yeah, we our ratings werepretty, pretty split.
I was a four you were a two.
Melanie (11:00):
Four.
Sean (11:02):
When I was gathering
the ratings today, I was like,
Melanie (11:05):
A
Sean (11:05):
eh, maybe not.
Melanie (11:06):
wanna change that?
You wanna, you
Sean (11:08):
No, no,
Melanie (11:08):
your
Sean (11:09):
I said it.
It is out on the interwebs.
It will not change.
Melanie (11:12):
is forever.
Sean (11:13):
I want to throw a
couple of questions your way.
Some some what ifs.
What if Buffy never raninto Lily Chanterelle?
Would she have ended up back in Sunnydale?
Melanie (11:27):
think she would have
been pulled back to Sunnydale.
I think, I think somethingwould have pulled her back.
concern for her mother, perhaps, know or there would have been some
demon that found her eventually, youknow, because where was she like L.
A.
or didn't we joke aboutit was sunny, Sunnyvale.
Sean (11:49):
Sunnyvale, yeah.
I always thought it was L.
A., but they never actually said it.
Melanie (11:53):
it was wherever it was,
it was still not that far away.
And yeah, I tendril of evilwould have tendril of evil.
That's a good band name.
Ooh.
Sean (12:03):
That is a good name.
Melanie (12:05):
and pulled her back in.
Yeah, I think so.
It's her destiny.
Sean (12:09):
Yeah.
Melanie (12:09):
She's a slayer.
Can't, you can't outrun that.
Sean (12:12):
One girl in all the world.
The chosen one.
Melanie (12:16):
two or three, but you know,
But we won't be picky about it.
Sean (12:23):
My still I think my favorite
part of that episode was When she
says to the demon guy, Hey, youwant to see my impression of Gandhi?
Melanie (12:30):
that
Sean (12:31):
And she whales on him with the club.
And then Lily said, Gandhi?
Well, you know, he was really pissed off.
And then she ended uphome at the end of it.
Melanie (12:42):
Yep, she handed off her
grimy crappy apartment and her life.
As Anne, she handed itover to Chanterelle.
Be interesting to touchback with Chanterelle.
Like, where are they now?
Chanterelle's still workingat that little restaurant.
Sean (13:02):
All right dead man's party
Melanie (13:03):
Dead Man's Party.
Sean (13:05):
zombies
Melanie (13:06):
Yes, and it was the
big party where Buffy was pissed
off at everybody and everybodywas pissed off at Buffy and we
Sean (13:14):
and
Melanie (13:14):
and we met Joyce's library or
book group friend, possibly lover, Pat.
Sean (13:21):
Who made empanadas
Melanie (13:22):
Yes.
Sean (13:24):
my my favorite scene for that
episode is Giles driving in the car.
Melanie (13:29):
Yeah.
Sean (13:30):
I'm Giles
Melanie (13:31):
Yes.
I get it.
Sean (13:34):
Do you like my mask isn't
it pretty it raises the dead.
Melanie (13:40):
Yes.
Excellent.
Sean (13:42):
right.
Melanie (13:42):
Alright.
Sean (13:44):
Alright, what else
about Dead Man's Party?
Melanie (13:46):
Was where Buffy was gonna go work
at Hot Dog on a Stick and we had a big
conversation about Hot Dog on a Stick.
Sean (13:52):
Yes.
I did not know it was a real restaurant.
Melanie (13:54):
And that's the one where
Buffy Joyce, the the cat, the dead cat,
Sean (14:01):
Oh, the zombie cat.
Yeah.
Melanie (14:04):
that Oz wanted to name Patches.
Sean (14:08):
Yes.
Our ratings were a littlecloser on this one.
I was a three and a half,you were a two and a half.
Melanie (14:17):
I stand by that.
Sean (14:18):
Yeah.
Melanie (14:20):
Yeah, that mask was horrible.
I, although, I did go online when wewere talking about doing fun things for
this episode, and I went on to Etsy, andyou can buy an Ohu Mubani mask replica.
Sean (14:33):
I thought about, like, printing
one out and just doing, like, a paper
Melanie (14:36):
a paper
Sean (14:37):
thing.
Melanie (14:37):
mask.
Sean (14:38):
Yes, exactly.
Melanie (14:40):
We totally should do that.
The next convention we go to,Sean, we're making Ovumubani masks
Sean (14:45):
yeah, yeah,
Melanie (14:46):
red LED lights
for the, for the eyes.
Sean (14:50):
yeah,
Melanie (14:50):
who gets it.
Sean (14:52):
you know.
All right next we haveFaith, Hope, and Trick.
The era of the willow fuzzy sweaters.
Melanie (14:59):
love it.
I love
Sean (15:01):
This is, this is
the best I could find.
Melanie (15:03):
it.
Fuzzy sweater.
I love it.
Sean (15:05):
But she was wearing a red
one in this scene, in this episode.
Faith, Hope, and Trick.
I
Melanie (15:10):
Still don't like that title.
Sean (15:12):
was gonna say, you
didn't like the title.
We meet Faith.
Melanie (15:15):
We met Faith.
We met Mr.
Trick.
Did we actually meetthe mayor face to face?
There was talk about the mayor.
Sean (15:23):
There's Talk and Hope.
We met Scott Hope.
Remember Scott?
Melanie (15:26):
That's right.
Scott Hope.
The boyfriend for atleast a couple episodes.
Sean (15:30):
Yeah.
Melanie (15:31):
You know, I had
a question about this one.
Do we Faith's background?
Sean (15:39):
What like,
Melanie (15:39):
that she was running from the
Sean (15:43):
kakistos?
Melanie (15:44):
yeah, that guy, and that
that guy killed her watcher, wherever
she was, but do we know where she wasand what her past is besides that?
They never talk
Sean (15:56):
Not really.
Melanie (15:57):
go
Sean (15:57):
No.
Melanie (15:58):
why she is the way she is.
No.
Okay.
Interesting.
Sean (16:03):
We get little snippets throughout
the season, but nothing major.
Like she talked about, I think it washer mom called her a little firecracker.
But nothing like concrete.
Melanie (16:13):
That would be
interesting to know that.
Like, I wonder if we ever meetDushku, we should ask her.
Did she think about that when shewas portraying this character?
You know, what?
made her like that?
Like,
Sean (16:26):
Right.
Melanie (16:27):
so for violence, you know?
I mean, she really got off on it.
Sean (16:34):
Yeah.
Melanie (16:34):
And obviously
she had some daddy issues,
Sean (16:38):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Melanie (16:39):
I don't
Sean (16:39):
Big time.
Melanie (16:40):
some stuff
Sean (16:40):
Yep.
Melanie (16:43):
Okay, this was the one, yeah,
we met Kakistos, who was also known as
Kissing Toast, Taquitos, Khaki Trousers,
Sean (16:51):
Yes.
Melanie (16:52):
and
Sean (16:53):
Ah, good stuff.
Melanie (16:53):
Angel came back in this episode.
Sean (16:55):
Yeah.
Yep.
I was thinking, you know, like, what could I do for Angel?
Like, well, I could justlay on the floor, naked.
Yeah.
Melanie (17:02):
Yes,
Sean (17:03):
No, no, no.
Beauty and the Beasts.
Melanie (17:07):
and the beast.
Yep.
This is where we met Pete, the abusive boyfriend.
I don't
Sean (17:14):
Yep,
Melanie (17:15):
name.
Sean (17:15):
I don't either.
Melanie (17:16):
You know.
Sean (17:17):
You know who we mean.
Melanie (17:18):
that girl.
And Oh, this is the onewhere Angel is all rabid.
He attacked Buffy, right?
And then she's got himchained up in the mansion.
Nobody knows that he's back.
Sean (17:29):
Right.
Melanie (17:29):
Again, Buffy's still
withholding information from her friends.
And then at the end, there's a big fight.
Willow and Faith are tryingto dart Oz in his wolf
Sean (17:43):
werewolves.
Melanie (17:43):
In his horrible werewolf costume.
What'd they call it?
The gay possum?
Sean (17:50):
Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes.
The gay possum.
Melanie (17:53):
costume.
And and Buffy and Faith,no, Buffy and Who else?
Was it just Buffy fighting
Sean (18:02):
Yeah,
Melanie (18:03):
He, he's getting the
upper hand, but then Angel jumps
in and he the fight for her.
Sean (18:10):
but he's still very feral
Melanie (18:12):
Yes.
Sean (18:13):
and rabid.
Yeah.
And we found out that Pete wasdrinking some kind of glowing formula.
Melanie (18:20):
you.
Oh, Sean.
That's amazing.
What is it?
Sean (18:28):
The inside of glow sticks.
Melanie (18:29):
it's green goo.
Sean (18:31):
Yeah,
Melanie (18:31):
Don't drink it.
It'll turn you into an abusive boyfriend.
Sean (18:34):
I'm not.
I will not be drinking it.
Melanie (18:37):
out, have to go to the hospital.
Sean (18:41):
Or I'll just be
like all cool and glowy.
Melanie (18:43):
Oh my God.
You turned into Mr.
Hyde.
So that's what was happening to Pete.
He was drinking that green goo.
We don't know what the green goo was.
We don't know how he found the green goo.
We don't know how long he'sbeen ingesting the green goo.
Sean (18:56):
And why he suddenly didn't
even need the green goo anymore.
Melanie (18:59):
many questions.
But it was like a
Sean (19:00):
Um,
Melanie (19:01):
Episode.
Sean (19:02):
yeah, yeah, it was.
Melanie (19:04):
a battered, battered wife.
And, and was like making excuses for him.
And, ugh, frustrating.
Sean (19:11):
at the end, you know,
like, you know, It'll be okay,
I could change them, and,
Melanie (19:15):
yeah, yeah.
Sean (19:16):
you know, move on, you know.
Question for you is, if Angeldidn't come back, And he was not
there to save Buffy, do you thinkshe would have gotten out of it?
Melanie (19:25):
doubt.
She's a Slayer.
I re
Sean (19:30):
But he was good.
Melanie (19:30):
it.
I re watched it today, and I was like, Yes,
Sean (19:34):
Wow.
Melanie (19:35):
her on the ground.
She would have got up.
She would have come too.
She would have had likeanother burst of Slayer energy.
kicked his ass.
In fact, she would havebeen pissed off at Angel.
She would have been pissed off.
I had that guy.
Sean (19:49):
We both gave this one a three.
Melanie (19:50):
Yeah,
Sean (19:51):
That's really, that's how
I feel, it's, it's, it was fine.
Melanie (19:54):
fine.
Sean (19:55):
you know, it's kind of meh.
Homecoming.
Melanie (20:00):
Oh, man.
Stuff happened in this episode.
Sean (20:05):
A lot happened.
Melanie (20:08):
Scott Hope breaks up with Buffy.
Rightfully so.
I imagine she's a terrible girlfriend.
Sean (20:17):
Especially at that point.
Melanie (20:19):
Willow and Xander kiss.
Sean (20:23):
Hate it.
Hate it so much.
At a VCR.
Melanie (20:25):
Yep.
And and then Slayer Fest, what they findthey're in the limo and they, they come to
the, they get dropped off in the middle ofthe woods and there's a TV there with the
world's longest extension cord announcing
Sean (20:39):
to know what that
VCR is connected to.
Melanie (20:43):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Sean (20:44):
Oh, I think it's a car battery,
Melanie (20:45):
this one too.
I watched that part and wherethey're watching the TV and
then it goes Slayer Fest.
It's got its own logo and everything.
There's a production value.
Sean (20:57):
right?
Mr.
Trick doesn't mess around.
Melanie (20:58):
he is the tech master.
Sean (21:01):
We had we had the
Fritz twins in that one.
Melanie (21:04):
Mm hmm.
Mr.
Sean (21:06):
Lyle Gorch and his wife.
Yeah.
Melanie (21:08):
Yep.
And
When they're at homecoming,Faith is at the homecoming dance.
I think we might have talkedabout this, that episode.
Like, why is she even there?
How is that possible that she's there?
Sean (21:21):
Is she a student?
Does she just hang out?
Melanie (21:23):
as a chaperone, which it,
now knowing who she is and what
kind of person she is, perfect.
That's perfect that she's the chaperoneat the Sunnydale High homecoming.
Sean (21:34):
Not a good idea
Melanie (21:36):
right in.
Sean (21:40):
Buffy and Cordelia battling it
out for prom queen and which then led
to them being you know in the limoalone and Cordelia holding her own.
She had the spatula
Melanie (21:52):
That's right.
That's right.
She takes someone out with the spatula.
Oh
Sean (21:58):
Yeah, Lyle's wife.
Melanie (21:59):
Oh, and I think we mentioned
that to her when we, when we met her.
Sean (22:04):
Yeah, cuz we said homecoming.
Is that the one where Iwas in the green dress?
Melanie (22:07):
Yeah.
Oh my gosh.
That's funny.
Sean (22:09):
Oh yeah, so we questioned because, I
mean, I think we even called the episode,
like, Spatula to the Abdomen, becausethat spatula is nowhere near the heart.
Melanie (22:16):
yeah, yeah.
Sean (22:17):
even
Melanie (22:17):
Oh, this show.
Sean (22:18):
Band candy!
Melanie (22:20):
band candy.
Oh boy.
Sean (22:25):
Chocolate.
Melanie (22:26):
the chocolate.
Oh, all right.
Oh, Michael,
Michael, you might get lucky later.
Sean (22:36):
No, this is just regular chocolate.
Chocolate.
Chocolate.
Melanie (22:37):
so you say.
I
Sean (22:42):
I just think it's funny.
I'm doing it on purpose, but like whenGiles and Joyce were kind of giving Buffy
grief about, you know, lying to them, andthen they're trying to be really serious.
But every time
Melanie (22:55):
just can't get enough of it.
Sean (22:56):
they're involved
in it, they get involved.
Melanie (23:00):
Yep.
Yep.
Sean (23:03):
Chocolate that made the adult.
Melanie (23:04):
you.
So at the beginning of this episode, the whole reason they're selling
the candy, Snyder is like puttingit, the pressure on the kids.
You're going to sell this candyto benefit the school, right?
Like, again, anotherexample of him forcing.
The school spirit on them.
Did he know at that point thatthe chocolate was tainted?
Sean (23:25):
I think so.
Melanie (23:26):
so?
Sean (23:28):
I think so.
I mean, he, he clearly had someconnections with the mayor.
Melanie (23:32):
How much did he
Sean (23:33):
I, I don't think he knew everything.
I think like he probably knew likethis chocolate needs to be sold.
It's for the mayor, butnot why not so that we can.
Melanie (23:45):
to do to people
Sean (23:46):
Yeah.
Melanie (23:47):
they would want
it to do that to people.
Sean (23:50):
Yes.
Melanie (23:50):
OK.
Do you think he knew about themayor's supernatural elements
or just that he was very powerful
Sean (24:01):
I think very powerful and had
some kind of supernatural connection.
But I don't think anything more than that.
Melanie (24:09):
Certainly didn't know he was
going to turn into a big demon snake
Sean (24:12):
I'm going to play a clip
of one of our Season 2 episodes.
Because you brought up,you brought up the mayor.
And I just think it'sinteresting how, like, quickly.
Writers can put in a new character andthey take up so much of the storyline.
(24:36):
Like, mid season two, we didn't knowanything about the mayor, really.
He's mentioned I think only inthe, if not the finale one of the
ones very close to the finale.
And then, you know, by halfway throughseason three, he's you know, the big bad.
(24:57):
You
Melanie (24:57):
Yeah.
Sean (24:58):
controlling everything and
Melanie (25:02):
It makes you wonder how, how
in advance writers know these arcs.
Like, did they know, okay, when they weretalking about, knew season three was going
to be about the mayor and the ascensions.
They were like, we have to introducehim somehow, you know, way back here.
Interesting.
Mm
Sean (25:22):
so back in season toward the end
of season two, I only have eyes for you.
Melanie (25:28):
hmm.
Sean (25:28):
I think we get a mayor reference
and you made a comment about it
And then, um, I don't know whythey would care about the mayor.
So I guess we'll find that out later.
Melanie (25:40):
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
Sean (25:43):
you know, and then way back in
season one, you were saying you were
saying something about the, the school.
I can't school.
Why would parents let their kids go there?
I'm like, yeah, someoneshould call the mayor.
Melanie (25:57):
Oh, nice.
You know how I, I always make fun of thebroads and I'm like, what club is this?
And also what kind of school is this?
And I'm saying it again.
What kind of school is this thatthere are still any students left that
they haven't shut this school down?
Because even the principal says, yeah, the school has a, has a quite a
reputation for like, Blah, blah, blah, and exploding cheerleaders and it's
like, what parent is letting theirchild come to this school anymore?
Sean (26:20):
That's a fair question.
I think the local city governmentand the school board really
need to take some action,
Melanie (26:26):
you know,
Sean (26:26):
somebody call
the mayor of Sunnydale.
That was back in the puppet show.
16 minutes, 25 seconds
Melanie (26:33):
No, that
Sean (26:33):
to go back.
Melanie (26:34):
What was the puppet's name?
Sean (26:36):
Sid yes.
Melanie (26:37):
a puppet.
Sean (26:39):
Yeah, so yeah, it's interesting
how they brought in the mayor.
You know, going back to bandcandy, you know, Giles and Joyce,
Melanie (26:48):
they did
Sean (26:49):
they they got together,
apparently on a police car, apparently,
Melanie (26:57):
Now I was gonna say, or
when we were just talking about
Angel and you were saying how couldI have, I could have been, had a
costume change to be Rabid Angel.
You could have handcuffedyourself to the sofa.
Sean (27:11):
you
Melanie (27:11):
There's a lot of handcuffing
in this show, in this season.
Everybody
Sean (27:15):
know, they were there.
Melanie (27:15):
at one point or
another in that mansion.
Sean (27:20):
Oz and Willow
probably did at one point
Melanie (27:24):
Vampire willow for sure.
Sean (27:27):
This, I think was the first time
that you had a higher rating than me.
Melanie (27:32):
Yeah.
Sean (27:32):
Yeah, I was a four.
And you were a 4.5.
Melanie (27:37):
I really
enjoyed them being silly.
Sean (27:39):
Yeah.
Yeah.
There, I mean, I, I like all the types ofepisodes on the show, but the, the ones
that are truly comedic, they're good.
I like 'em.
Revelations.
Melanie (27:52):
Oh, that's
where we meet Gwendolyn.
Gwendolyn Post.
Sean (27:56):
Yep.
This was our first episodeafter our convention.
Melanie (28:00):
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
This is where the rest of the groupfinds out that Angel is back cause Xander
sees, sees Buffy and Angel together.
Sean (28:10):
You know,
Melanie (28:11):
And this is also the
one where Gwendolyn has that
it's about that big, that glove.
Sean (28:17):
the glove of Myhnegon,
Melanie (28:18):
one.
Sean (28:18):
again,
Melanie (28:18):
puts it on, there's
like, lightning effects!
Yeah.
Big budget.
This was a big budget one.
Sean (28:27):
and she lost that hand pretty quick.
Melanie (28:28):
did.
Yep.
And then we find out shewasn't really a watcher.
Sean (28:32):
Yeah, not anymore.
She used to be.
Went to the dark side.
Melanie (28:36):
that's right.
Sean (28:37):
Do it!
Um, Both of us were, yeah, middle of the road, you were 3.
What if Faith wasn'tbetrayed by Gwendolyn Post?
What if she actuallystayed to be a watcher?
Melanie (28:54):
was the watcher and
she was on the up and up.
Sean (28:57):
Mm hmm.
Melanie (28:58):
have been
Sean (28:58):
I feel,
Melanie (28:59):
Well, I don't know.
I, I think Faith would havehad a really hard time with her
because she was so strict, right.
And by the book and like, I don'tknow that that would have worked
out well for either of them.
Sean (29:14):
instead of the Deputy
Mayor dying, it would have been
Melanie (29:17):
Yeah.
Sean (29:18):
You're with me,
Melanie (29:18):
don't know.
I think, you know, Faith beingFaith, I think she would have
gone awry anyway and something badwould have happened eventually.
She's got that thirst for violence.
She would have rebelled against Gwendolyn.
Sean (29:35):
Gwendolyn.
I don't think we everwould have gotten Wesley.
Melanie (29:40):
Yeah.
My favorite.
Gail says that he's, heis redeemed in Angel.
Sean (29:47):
He is.
Melanie (29:48):
arc in Angel.
And I said, that would mean I'dhave to watch Angels and I'm not
willing to invest Wesley that
Sean (29:56):
Yeah.
Are you willing to invest four minutes?
Melanie (29:59):
Yeah, four minutes.
Sure.
Sean (30:01):
Okay.
Can you go to Hulu and pull upseason four, episode one of angel?
And it's around the 11 minuteMark, but it's a, a three minute
scene with Wesley and a woman.
Melanie (30:16):
okay, I'm there.
Okay.
Sean (30:18):
okay.
Oh,
Melanie (30:21):
to back up.
Oh, is that Wesley?
What?
(30:46):
Oh.
Sean (30:47):
I can't hear it.
So you gotta tell me like what's going on.
Melanie (30:51):
He's all naked
and sweaty with this girl.
He doesn't have glasses on.
She just licked his neck.
Sean (31:00):
You'll know when the scene's
over.
It's not that long, Ithink it's three minutes.
Melanie (31:14):
She's leaving
All
right.
Well right up until the verylast second of that scene.
(31:36):
I was like
Sean (31:37):
Yeah.
Melanie (31:37):
it Gail.
I can get on board with this Wesley
Sean (31:43):
It's a very different Wesley.
He
Melanie (31:46):
Hunky.
Sean (31:47):
Maybe we will be doing Angel later.
Melanie (31:49):
no Damn it, but then the
very last thing of that I was like, I
don't know what what I don't like that
Sean (31:59):
Well, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, Wesley changes.
Melanie (32:02):
right, damn it
Sean (32:06):
But before we get to
Wesley, we have Lover's Walk.
Melanie (32:10):
lovers walk Yes, so
Willow and Xander are still
struggling with their fling.
Whatever it is Spike is back!
Sean (32:20):
Spike is back.
Melanie (32:21):
I bet I, I, I probably
graded this one pretty, pretty good.
This was a good one.
This is where, so Spike comesback, he wants a magic spell
make Drusilla love him again.
Willow wants to use magic to stop thefeelings that she and Xander are having.
Sean (32:39):
Some delusting.
Melanie (32:40):
Cordelia sees them
and she's impaled on the rebar.
Impaled!
Sean (32:47):
And then, you know,
Melanie (32:49):
Oh!
Sean (32:50):
and then they, they cut to the
graveyard and you think she's dead.
Melanie (32:54):
the frickin bait and switch.
Yeah.
Sean (32:58):
Freaking spike is
drunk the whole time.
Melanie (33:02):
Yes, he was.
And driving a car with totally blackedout windows, I have no idea how
he was able to navigate, but yeah.
That was a
Sean (33:13):
Yeah.
Melanie (33:15):
was
Sean (33:15):
one, that, that end is,
is I think is why I gave it a 3.
5.
You gave it a three
Melanie (33:22):
I gave
Sean (33:23):
and I think.
You did.
Melanie (33:25):
Alright.
Sean (33:26):
My question for you, what,
what do you think would have
happened if Oz and Cordelia didnot walk in on Willow and Xander?
Melanie (33:34):
I think that they, Willow would
have ended it, because she felt so bad.
She would have ended it.
But then she would have ended upconfessing anyway, because the guilt
would have just eaten her alive.
Because she, Xander, I don't know,is kind of a jerk and might have
(33:58):
might have continued on, know, giving into his physical desires.
But yeah, I think Willow really genuinelywanted out and would have felt awful.
What do you think?
Sean (34:15):
Yeah, I think between the two
of them, she would have ended it.
And yeah, would havehad to have confessed.
Melanie (34:22):
she would have said something.
Sean (34:24):
And Oz probably still
would have taken her back.
Melanie (34:26):
Oh, Oz.
Sean (34:30):
Such a good guy.
Melanie (34:32):
I would have, would have had a
poster of Oz on my wall as a 15 year old.
Sean (34:39):
I, I had a, he was one of the
ones I had to sign, sign picture, I
think he was standing next to a tree.
Melanie (34:45):
Nice.
. Sean (34:46):
The wish.
Melanie (34:48):
This is where we meet Anya.
Sean (34:50):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Melanie (34:51):
And Cordelia
Sean (34:52):
And we.
I
Melanie (34:53):
makes her wish.
Sean (34:56):
wish Buffy Summers
had never come to Sunnydale.
She didn't.
Melanie (35:00):
And then forward
to the master is back.
Fruit Punch Mouth is back.
Sean (35:08):
With a whole army, a whole factory,
Melanie (35:13):
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was bad news.
It
What did I grade that one?
What did I give that one?
Sean (35:22):
3.
75.
I went with 4.
5.
I love Bush.
Melanie (35:27):
Why do you love it so much?
Sean (35:30):
I just thought it was
just such an interesting story.
On how like that one act changed thingsso much and I like Cordelia makes the
wish and then she dies like an hour later
Melanie (35:41):
die.
Right?
Sean (35:43):
Yeah,
Melanie (35:46):
Alternate universe.
Always interesting.
Sean (35:49):
yeah.
Mm hmm.
Now we have amends yeah,
Melanie (35:54):
This is where Oz
and Willow get back together.
Yeah.
Sean (35:58):
sweet.
Melanie (35:59):
And this is, this
was the Christmas episode,
Sean (36:01):
Yes.
Melanie (36:03):
Where, where
we're a, we have dinner.
This was the eggnog, right?
Eggnog episode.
And Christmas dinner with Joyce and Faith.
Sean (36:12):
Yes, and baby bangs.
Melanie (36:14):
baby bangs.
no, no,
not good.
Sean (36:21):
No,
Melanie (36:22):
so this is the one where Angelus
is having visions of Jenny calendars.
Sean (36:27):
am I a righteous man?
Melanie (36:28):
we get a Jenny Calendar cameo we
find out that's actually the first evil
and that's what's causing the visions.
And so Angel is going to kill himself.
He goes up to the hilltop and he'sgoing to let the sun rise and kill him.
But then the magic of Christmas happens.
It's a miracle.
Christmas miracle.
(36:49):
God bless us everyone.
The snow,
Sean (36:52):
No,
Melanie (36:53):
the snow comes,
it blots out the sun.
And then they get to walkthrough town together.
Awww.
Sean (37:03):
it's magical
Melanie (37:04):
magical.
Sean (37:07):
So
Melanie (37:09):
What were
Sean (37:09):
You
Melanie (37:10):
on this one?
Sean (37:12):
you were more than me.
You were 275.
I was 2.
Melanie (37:16):
Not your favorite.
Sean (37:18):
No, I Think other than like
setting up angel for his show Like,
this one didn't need to happen.
Melanie (37:26):
a righteous man.
Sean (37:28):
Yeah.
What if it didn't snow?
Melanie (37:33):
He would have died on that hill.
Sean (37:36):
How do you think that
would have impacted Buffy?
Melanie (37:39):
How would it have impacted her?
Oh my
Sean (37:41):
Mm hmm.
Melanie (37:43):
Man, that girl.
She'd have to go through it again, huh?
Sean (37:47):
Yeah.
After just going through it all.
Melanie (37:48):
Yeah.
Yeah.
That would not have been good for her.
Next up was Gingerbread,
Sean (37:54):
Yes.
Melanie (37:55):
the playground of dead children.
Sean (37:58):
Yeah.
Melanie (37:59):
And then
Sean (37:59):
Moo.
Melanie (38:00):
the dead children turn
all the parents against their kids.
Sean (38:06):
We got mothers
opposed to the occults.
Melanie (38:08):
Yes.
Yes.
Moo.
Sean (38:12):
Joyce leading them all.
Melanie (38:13):
that's right.
Sean (38:15):
We meet Willow's mom.
Melanie (38:17):
That's right.
That's right.
And then Principal Snyderhas a literal witch hunt.
Raids the lockers and they findout Willow and Amy are witches.
And this is where Amygets turned into a rat
Sean (38:32):
Yeah, yeah,
Melanie (38:33):
and stays a rat for the rest, the
Sean (38:35):
yeah,
Melanie (38:35):
of the season or
Sean (38:36):
yeah.
Melanie (38:37):
Hopefully
Sean (38:38):
She's still a rat.
She did not get to graduate.
Yeah,
Melanie (38:41):
season four, Amy comes back.
Sean (38:45):
That was a three
for me and a 275 for you.
Melanie (38:50):
I think that was the
one that I made predictions for.
And I said, it could beliteral gingerbread people.
Sean (38:57):
That would have been amazing.
Melanie (38:58):
see that episode.
That would be a high makeup budget though.
Sean (39:03):
Yeah.
Oh, I thought they'd just be like allCGI, like the gingerbread man from Shrek.
Melanie (39:09):
little animated, little clip art.
Sean (39:14):
The legs don't move, they just hop.
Melanie (39:18):
Oh man.
Sean (39:20):
Ugh.
Helpless.
Melanie (39:22):
This was the one where
there was a Slayer test and they take
Sean (39:26):
Yes.
Melanie (39:26):
powers.
Sean (39:27):
Not a slayer fest,
because that's homecoming.
Melanie (39:29):
fest, a Slayer test.
And this is where Oh,this is, this is Kralik.
Sean (39:36):
My
pills!
Melanie (39:40):
Yes.
They, and kidnaps Joyce.
And then
Sean (39:44):
Polaroids.
Melanie (39:44):
is very clever in how she kills
him because he's addicted to those pills
and she takes the pills and he washesit down with a glass of holy water.
Very
Sean (39:53):
Yeah, this is where
you had your prop moment.
Melanie (39:58):
Yes, that was
Sean (39:58):
I, I was, I was rewatching that
yesterday and still makes me laugh.
That was, it was amazing.
Melanie (40:06):
and this is where
Giles is fired from the council.
Sean (40:09):
Mm hmm.
Melanie (40:10):
plot point.
Sean (40:11):
Yeah.
Yeah, we met QuentinTravers from the council.
Melanie (40:18):
Yes.
The next episode, episode 13, the Zepo,
Sean (40:25):
Yeah, we watched that together
Melanie (40:26):
We did not like
Sean (40:27):
here.
No.
We've got some comments from peopleabout like, you know, you're missing
the point And you know, how could younot like this episode and you know,
everyone's done to their own opinion.
Melanie (40:42):
by,
Sean (40:42):
I Yeah,
Melanie (40:43):
by my evaluation.
Sean (40:45):
I still think they could have done
a Xander centric episode that Wasn't that
Melanie (40:53):
Yeah.
It's another example of amain character who is pulling
themselves away from their friends.
It's a very, and it's very pronounced.
And unsettling as a viewer to watch it.
And I think that was ourissue with this episode was.
(41:14):
He was, yeah, he was the main focus, but it was so like the coverage of what
else was going on with the rest of them.
Yeah.
I think there was probablya better way to do that.
Yeah.
One of the,
Sean (41:28):
was that
Melanie (41:29):
said, how could we
think this is the worst episode
when we forgot about the pack?
The pack was pretty, was pretty bad
Sean (41:37):
was bad.
But
Melanie (41:40):
Although the
Sean (41:40):
I mean,
Melanie (41:41):
was a Xander centric
episode too, wasn't it?
Sean (41:44):
yes, but I don't think we,
we disliked it for that reason.
It was just,
Melanie (41:49):
commonality.
Sean (41:51):
yes, yes, absolutely.
This is my low, lowestscore of the podcast so far.
I gave it a one.
You gave it a one and a quarter.
Melanie (42:00):
yeah, that's pretty bad.
Yep.
Sean (42:02):
Yeah.
Melanie (42:03):
Dude, what did
Sean (42:03):
Uh,
Melanie (42:04):
Were we doing scores then?
Alright.
Sean (42:07):
I think at that point we were,
but I do not have those scores handy.
Those were before video, so it's reallyhard for me to pinpoint down where it is.
Melanie (42:16):
gotcha.
Sean (42:17):
With this one, I could
just scroll through until the
little Buffy stake icons come up.
But I will, I will work on that.
Melanie (42:24):
Alright.
Sean (42:25):
our next recap, we will
have a full database of scoring.
Melanie (42:29):
We need
Sean (42:29):
Um, yes, um, I think we'd get
redeemed in the next episode, Bad Girls.
Melanie (42:37):
How so?
I
Sean (42:40):
I just think it's a better episode.
Melanie (42:41):
of the episode, you mean.
Sean (42:43):
Yes
Melanie (42:44):
this is where we
meet Wesley, the new watcher.
Sean (42:47):
that Wesley Wyndham Price
Melanie (42:49):
And then this is also the
episode about the El Illuminati.
Not the Illuminati.
The El Illuminati at Balthazar.
Sean (42:59):
Yes, in his tub
Melanie (43:00):
Yes, in his tub.
And this is, this is,
Sean (43:03):
Moisturizing.
Melanie (43:03):
is the episode where
the mayor becomes invincible.
And also this is the episodewhere Faith stabs Alan.
Sean (43:13):
Yes.
Melanie (43:14):
are having a great time being
bad girls together until it goes a little
out, you know, it's all fun and games.
Sean (43:21):
Stake somebody in
the heart, it's a human.
That's, that's where the,
Melanie (43:24):
the real descent
Sean (43:26):
you know.
Melanie (43:26):
Faith.
Sean (43:28):
What if Buffy stabbed
him instead of Faith?
Melanie (43:33):
Oh, I think there would have
been at least the next episode would
have been all about her spiralingdepression and and a moral dilemma.
she would have been, shewould have felt horrible.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And they would have had to talkher into coming back and doing
what she has to do as a slayer.
(43:54):
And yeah, but totally different, totally different consequences.
Sean (43:59):
Yep.
Melanie (44:00):
Which brings us to episode
Sean (44:01):
I like, I like what you did there.
Melanie (44:04):
Where we find out
Faith's reaction is like, Oh well,
Sean (44:08):
Yeah, these things happen.
Melanie (44:10):
and I'm going
on with my badass life.
This is also where she turns on Buffyand, and tells Giles a lie that it
was Buffy that, that killed Alan.
And thankfully Gilesknows that's not the case.
And at the end, Faith ends up killing Mr.
(44:31):
Trick and she takes his job.
Sean (44:34):
Yeah,
Melanie (44:34):
is where
Sean (44:34):
it's not working for me.
Melanie (44:35):
like, okay, Faith is now on the
other side and what are we going to do?
I really was hopeful.
I think in a lot of my predictions forthese, this last half of the season,
I held out hope that Faith was somehowgonna find herself back on the path.
Sean (44:54):
Yeah, I, I think there was still a
possibility she could have been redeemed,
Melanie (44:58):
she kind of did at the end.
She was, you know, appeared to,you know, Buffy in a dream or
vision and said that the mayor hasa weakness, you know, so kind of
Sean (45:09):
right?
Melanie (45:11):
You know, she's in a
coma for the rest of her life.
So we think Sean watching your poker face.
Sean (45:21):
I mean, even if she does come
back, you would have no idea when.
I mean, is it season four?
Is it season seven?
I mean, there's lots of,
Melanie (45:28):
Is she
Sean (45:28):
you know, when somebody's in a coma,
Melanie (45:30):
going to be like able to
will she still have her Slayer powers?
That would be interesting.
Sean (45:39):
that's why I think soap operas
use comas so much, because you can
just have them in the backgroundforever until you need them and
call them out, bring them in.
Melanie (45:47):
Episode 16 Doppelganger land.
Sean (45:52):
I like this one,
Melanie (45:53):
a good one.
Sean (45:54):
you know,
Melanie (45:54):
Vampire Willow.
Sean (45:57):
you watched this one on an edible
Melanie (46:00):
Yes.
Sean (46:01):
and you did mention
you're going to watch it again.
Melanie (46:03):
it again.
I did not.
I should.
Sean (46:06):
Okay.
Melanie (46:07):
But I do like
Vampire Willow a lot.
Sean (46:12):
Yeah, you you gave
this one a four and a half.
I was at 3.
75.
It's a good one.
We give some more of Anya in this one.
Melanie (46:21):
Yep.
Yep.
some more Witchcraft.
Yeah, that was good.
I liked it.
Sean (46:27):
What if it was a vampire Xander
that came back instead of vampire Willow?
It would have been very different.
Percy?
Yes, but yes, but then she does.
Yes.
In the bronze.
I would, I would think Willow is lackey.
Enemies.
We're yes.
Yeah, we were both three andthree quarters for this earshot.
I'll be right
Melanie (46:34):
It would have
been very different.
Was this the one where,
Is this the one where real, real Willow goes to the bronze?
Vampire Willow takesover the bronze, right?
Right?
And then, and then realWillow pretends to be her?
(46:54):
And Oz recognized her because she likedoes her little whatever winker wave.
Yeah.
All right.
If it were Xander, I don't know,Vampire Xander, is he any smarter than
real Xander or is he just like lackey?
Yeah.
So then, yeah, things would, youknow, it wouldn't have gone, he
(47:16):
wouldn't have taken over, he wouldhave just been like aimlessly.
Going around and killing chicks.
That's my guess.
Enemies.
Oh, this is this, this onehad the good twist, right?
(47:37):
Where, so they get the books of Ascensionand faith tries to seduce angel.
Right.
And then they do something tosupposedly take his soul away again.
And then he pulls a fast one.
He didn't really lose his soul.
That was, that was a really good twist, but they don't reveal that until they
(47:59):
get they get faith to spill everythingon what the mayor's going to do.
She does a nice little James Bondvillain Yeah, that was pretty good.
That was a good twist.
Yeah, that was a good one.
And now we go on to Earshot.
This is where Buffy getsinfected by the demon goo.
Sean (48:23):
Yes.
Melanie (48:24):
hear everything.
Everybody's thoughts,
Sean (48:26):
Watch.
Mhm.
Melanie (48:28):
worse and worse and worse.
And this is the one where this wasthe smarmy journalism guy, right?
Sean (48:34):
Yes.
Melanie (48:35):
him first, but no, it turned
out to be, well, they thought it was
Jonathan who was up in the clock tower.
And, but no, it turned out Jonathanwas going to use that rifle.
On himself
Sean (48:47):
Moves off of the clock tower.
Melanie (48:48):
tower.
Very I don't know.
Very cliche, I would say.
And then then we find out, no,it was really the lunch lady
poisoning, poisoning the Jell O.
Sean (49:00):
I asked Mike, like,
do we have rat poison?
I mean, like
Melanie (49:03):
no,
Sean (49:04):
No, no rat poison, so.
Melanie (49:08):
and then Jonathan gets
suspended or I thought he was
expelled, but no, just suspended.
Sean (49:17):
Yeah,
Melanie (49:19):
Jonathan.
Sean (49:21):
Hehehehe.
Melanie (49:22):
Do you
Sean (49:22):
you
Melanie (49:23):
was like,
negotiated that episode?
You know, like I've been in every inthe background of every friggin episode.
Sean (49:31):
know, I think it just
happened to be that way.
Choices.
Melanie (49:37):
Yep.
Buffy is thinking about her choices.
What's she going to do after graduation?
Sean (49:42):
Right, going off to college.
Melanie (49:44):
Yep.
Sean (49:45):
Or not.
Melanie (49:46):
And then they also have
the choice, they they have the box
of Gravlax, which we find out islike demon beetles or something.
Spiders.
Oh!
Ha ha!
Nice.
Nice.
And they have to decide ifthey're going to swap the box.
Yep.
For Willow, who had beenkidnapped by Faith and the Mayor.
Sean (50:10):
Right.
Melanie (50:11):
And then, by the end,
Buffy decides to stay in Sunnydale.
Because there's stilltoo much going on there.
Sean (50:18):
Willow is going to UC Sunnydale.
Melanie (50:20):
Oh,
Sean (50:20):
So,
Melanie (50:21):
Sunnydale.
You have any comments about that one?
Sean (50:25):
meh, we made our choices.
Melanie (50:28):
Now, oh, we're getting,
this is it, the last three episodes.
stuff happening.
20, the prom,
Sean (50:36):
Gimp
Demons in cages.
Melanie (50:40):
yeah Angel breaks up with Buffy,
Sean (50:43):
He says he's gonna leave.
Melanie (50:45):
gonna leave after setting
himself up for his new show, he says,
I got a better contract and this iswhere we find out Cordelia is poor,
Sean (50:52):
Yeah,
Melanie (50:54):
and yeah, this is the
one with the hellhounds that are
being programmed by the 80s prommovies, awesome, plot device.
Sean (51:03):
I, I enjoyed it very much.
Melanie (51:05):
Xander goes to the prom with
Anya, which was some funny moments,
Anya having to adjust still to beinga, high schooler with no power and
wanting to go on a date with a boy.
It's all very confusing.
Emma, you did a good job portraying it.
Sean (51:26):
Then towards the end,
after Buffy deals with the the
Demons there's a special awardgiven out to her by Jonathan.
Melanie (51:36):
who, you know, he took
a week off, he took a week off.
He's, he got some counseling, goal oriented counseling.
They were like, what's yourgoal to not kill myself.
All right.
Well, don't kill yourself.
cured I'm going to school tomorrow.
I'm going to head up the prom committee.
(51:57):
Everything's great.
Sean (51:59):
Yeah, everybody wins.
Melanie (52:02):
Yep.
Sean (52:03):
At the very
Melanie (52:03):
Buffy does
get to vote with Angel.
He shows up at the last minute, buthe's like, this doesn't change anything.
We're still broken upand I'm still leaving.
Sean (52:13):
end, I still can't stand you.
Go away.
Melanie (52:15):
That's awesome.
So like the rest of your life, that's going to be your prom memory.
He broke my heart so many times.
Oh, it's like Phantom of the Opera.
Now the last two.
Sean (52:30):
Yeah, graduation day.
Part one.
Melanie (52:33):
This is, oh, this
is the big, Willow and Oz.
They did it.
The
Sean (52:38):
Yeah,
Melanie (52:39):
So everybody's panicking.
They don't know how to stop it.
So, this is how we're going out.
Sean (52:46):
good for them.
Melanie (52:47):
good for them.
That's right.
Sean (52:50):
That one, I think her
name was Roz from 9 to 5.
Atta girl.
Melanie (52:53):
that's right.
At it, girl.
Faith, again oh, we missedthe last couple episodes.
Faith has been like, that's crossbow.
the crossbow made a comeback this season.
Sean (53:04):
Yes.
Melanie (53:04):
in this episode, she shoots
Angel in the back with the crossbow
and they're all like, Oh, it's great.
She missed.
No, she she meant to hit him.
It was a poison arrow, baby.
Sean (53:17):
Laced with Killer of the Dead.
I think they called it.
Melanie (53:22):
And this is the one where the
mayor takes another step in preparation.
He eats the spiders out of the box.
And oh, this is Buffy and Faith have,oh, well, they're stunt people, have
a big battle scene, big fight scene atthe apartment, and Buffy kills Faith.
But not
Sean (53:40):
Faith Falls.
Yeah, Faith Falls overthe side of the building.
Lands on a truck loaded with pallets.
Melanie (53:46):
Your friend is only mostly dead.
Sean (53:51):
And it just drives away.
Melanie (53:53):
go to Miracle Max.
Yep.
And this is it, the last episode.
Ah, Sean!
I think we ordered from the same store.
Sean (54:05):
Probably.
Melanie (54:08):
I'm gonna send
you the other 19 99.
Sean (54:11):
Yes.
We could, well, we could, if we goto another Buffy thing, we could just
Melanie (54:17):
we should wear it.
Sean (54:18):
cosplay.
Melanie (54:18):
Yes.
Sean (54:20):
Easy.
Melanie (54:21):
I love it.
All right, graduation daypart two, the big finish.
Sean (54:30):
They know something's
happening at graduation.
They know that the mayoris the guest speaker.
The volcanologist is dead.
Melanie (54:39):
yep.
We know that, or we find out thatthere's a cure for Angel, but
he has to drink from a slayer.
Sean (54:48):
Which is why Buffy
was trying to get Faith.
Melanie (54:50):
and so
Sean (54:51):
Yep.
Melanie (54:51):
dead, so he's gonna
have to drink from Buffy.
Oh man and she lets him, she, she says, do it.
she ends up in the hospital where, ah,frickin Faith is there in the hospital.
She's in a coma.
Mayor is actually at thehospital and sees Buffy, right?
Sean (55:13):
Yep.
Tries to strangle her.
Melanie (55:16):
right.
Strangle her.
Yep.
Yep.
Yep.
Yep.
So then we are at graduation.
Cause Buffy comes back, right?
She's fine.
Slayer strength, that intermittentslayer strength kicks in.
We're at the, we're at the graduation.
The mayor is giving his speech.
(55:38):
And then he transforms
Sean (55:42):
In an eclipse.
Melanie (55:43):
That's right.
There's an eclipse and hetransforms into the giant CGI worm.
And then the big pivotal moment.
Oh, what's this?
Oh, what are we doing?
Oh,
the students rise up.
(56:05):
And they're attacking andthey're fighting back.
I love it.
That was really great.
I loved that.
Mayor eats Snyder.
Sean (56:14):
Yep, he's gone.
Melanie (56:15):
eats Larry.
Sean (56:17):
Well, he didn't eat him, he whacked
him with his tail, but Larry's dead.
Melanie (56:20):
He's dead.
And then they they lure him throughthe school, the abyss water all the
hallways and Giles blows up the school.
Sean (56:30):
Oh gosh!
Melanie (56:32):
Oh, gosh.
That was great.
That was a really good ending.
And then, you know, in thelittle epilogue part or whatever,
Wesley leaves and Angel leaves.
know, they have like one littlemoment of looking back, but yeah,
Angel's out, he's on to the next show.
Very satisfying ending, I would say.
Sean (56:50):
Yes, yeah.
You really enjoyed that fight scenewith all the students against the mayor.
Melanie (56:55):
was great.
Sean (56:56):
All right, let me put my clothes
back on, no more outfit changes.
There'll be a separate clip ofSean's in a wardrobe making changes.
Melanie (57:04):
The hidden camera?
Sean (57:08):
Not that kind of podcast.
Melanie (57:11):
It
Sean (57:11):
Sunnydale Diaries after dark.
All right, so that was all ofseason three, all 22 episodes.
Melanie (57:23):
So this is
supposedly the best season.
Sean (57:27):
I, you know what, I'm
not gonna say it's the best.
I'm gonna say it's my favorite.
Melanie (57:30):
I don't think you're alone.
I was looking on Wikipedia andit seems that's the consensus.
Is that this is the, the best season.
Sean (57:39):
I think like as far as like an over.
Melanie (57:41):
we got four to go.
Oh,
Sean (57:47):
They all, they all
have their good points.
I wouldn't say it gets bad from here.
Like for me, I mean for me this one isreally the nostalgia because this was the
first one I watched all the way through.
A lot of good stuff going onin my life at that moment, so.
But we, we got, we got some goodstuff coming in season four.
(58:12):
So, what do you think is goingto happen in season four?
Melanie (58:18):
What is gonna happen?
Well I don't know.
They're gonna have to get jobs.
Or they're gonna be in college.
not all going to the same college.
Right?
Faith, is Faith going to come back?
No, I think she's justgoing to be in the coma.
Sean (58:40):
They just
Melanie (58:40):
another
Sean (58:41):
in.
Melanie (58:41):
universe or some kind of weird,
you know, spell thing that she might
have an episode, but I don't think she'sgoing to be a major But so does that kick
off another slayer that she's in a coma?
Sean (58:53):
I mean, the line ends, or
like the, it moves to the next
Slayer when that previous one dies.
So she's not
Melanie (59:01):
No, she didn't pull a Buffy
and like, die momentarily and they
brought her back into the coma.
Sean (59:06):
dead.
Maybe they did?
And there's a new Slayercoming in Season 4.
Melanie (59:10):
Alright, what's gonna happen?
Buffy and Willow are goingto the same school, right?
Sean (59:14):
Yep, both go to UC Sunnydale.
Melanie (59:16):
I mean, they're in Sunnydale
still, so they'll be forefront.
Willow will probably up her witchcraftgame and somehow there will be at
least one episode where a spellgoes awry and creates havoc in town.
Sean (59:31):
I think you can apply that
to like any show with magic.
Melanie (59:34):
yeah.
Well, all right.
Sean (59:35):
There'll be one episode
where a spell goes wrong.
Melanie (59:38):
It's like horoscopes.
I'm gonna make it really general.
So it'll hit.
Let's see Xander.
I don't think Xander's going to college.
I think Xander's gonnaget a job somewhere.
So he'll be sticking around and he'llbe there to annoy them some more.
Sean (59:51):
Okay.
What kind of job is he going to get?
Melanie (59:54):
gas station attendant.
Or, or he's gonna go work in a bookstoreand be really obnoxious, you know, like.
Know it all in the bookstore.
You know, faux intellectual kind of thing.
Yeah, and then Oz Is gonna get OzI don't is Oz gonna go to school?
(01:00:15):
No, Oz is gonna get some kindof tech job Civilian life, but
they'll all still be around thosethose four will be there anyway in
town Giles what's Giles gonna do?
He's gonna quit his librarian job?
they're all gonna be
Sean (01:00:30):
Only dreams.
Melanie (01:00:31):
people that graduate college
and or graduate high school and they're
always going back to the high school to
Sean (01:00:36):
Hmm.
Well, again, they blew up the high school.
Melanie (01:00:39):
they blew up the high school!
Alright.
Giles, what's Giles gonna be doing?
Giles is going to takeover the magic shop,
Sean (01:00:49):
What?
Melanie (01:00:51):
over the magic shop so that
Willow can come in and get her stuff.
And that'll be their little headquarters.
Sean (01:00:58):
Yeah.
Melanie (01:00:58):
like
Sean (01:00:58):
Interesting.
Melanie (01:00:59):
All
Sean (01:00:59):
Yeah, that's a good one.
Yeah.
Okay.
Anya.
Melanie (01:01:03):
Anya.
I think Anya is
going to be hanging around and sheand Xander are going to develop into
something for a little while longer.
And then eventually she'llget her powers back.
I think.
Maybe
Sean (01:01:19):
Okay.
Melanie (01:01:20):
not in this season.
Sean (01:01:21):
Great.
What about Buffy's lovelife now that Angel is gone?
Melanie (01:01:26):
Oh, for sure.
She's going to date some guys, but they're going to be like,
they're not gonna stick around.
She's gonna have, she,she can't be a girlfriend.
She can't be a girlfriend unless it'ssomebody is equally effed up whose
life is equally effed up as hers.
Sean (01:01:43):
Hmm.
Interesting.
Yeah.
There is one Buffy Angel crossover episodethat I think I'm gonna ask that we watch.
So, it's a Buffy episode and thenthe story crosses over into Angel.
I wasn't
Melanie (01:02:01):
okay.
All right.
Sean (01:02:02):
there on that.
Melanie (01:02:02):
goes on his show.
Sean (01:02:04):
Yeah.
Melanie (01:02:04):
him boost ratings.
Give him a little, little Buffy bump.
Sean (01:02:08):
It was pretty early on too.
It was probably like episodesix or seven, but we'll see.
Melanie (01:02:14):
because they
Sean (01:02:15):
I think we'll do that.
Melanie (01:02:16):
in the first few
Sean (01:02:18):
We need something more.
Melanie (01:02:19):
were like, Oh no,
we better do something.
Yes.
Sarah Michelle over here
Sean (01:02:26):
That,
Melanie (01:02:27):
stat.
I
Sean (01:02:27):
Compared to where we were at
the end of season two, you know, how,
how invested are you compared to then?
Do you think it's gotten better?
Do you think it's gotten worse?
Melanie (01:02:38):
don't know if I'm,
I wouldn't say I'm invested.
But I, I'm enjoying the episodesgenerally, I will say more than I was.
Sean (01:02:49):
Okay.
Melanie (01:02:50):
reasons.
I think the first season I was enjoying, enjoying poking holes in everything
and, you know, and making fun now.
And I think it's even at the end ofseason two, I was seeing that I was
enjoying watching, you know, I wasgetting a little more into the plot
lines because there is a plot line.
At least there's some arcs going onnow that weren't there in season one.
Sean (01:03:13):
All right.
Melanie (01:03:14):
All right.
Sean (01:03:15):
Anything else you want
to say about season three?
Melanie (01:03:18):
I think it
was pretty good season.
What do you think?
Was Alan an innocent?
Sean (01:03:26):
I think, I think so.
I really don't think he knew howdeep he was in it and what really
was going on with the mayor.
And I mean, he wasgoing to them, we think.
Going to Buffy and Faith to tellthem about what was going on
Melanie (01:03:43):
I guess.
Sean (01:03:44):
when when he got staked.
So, yeah, I think he was.
He was just a good civil servant.
Melanie (01:03:49):
Oh.
Fare thee well, Alan.
Rest in peace.
So Sean, and you're, don't do,
