Sean (00:21):
Hello.
Welcome to the SunnydaleDiaries, a podcast where I, Sean,

Melanie (00:26):
And I'm Melanie.

Sean (00:28):
are watching and discussing every episode of Buffet, the Vampire
Flare, and how the related themesof the episodes impact our lives.

Melanie (00:37):
Mm hmm.

Sean (00:38):
I've been a big fan of the show since the late 90s.

Melanie (00:42):
And I have not.

Sean (00:45):
Today, we are discussing season 3, episode 2, Dead Man's Party.

Melanie (00:53):
Did you listen to that song yet?
Did I play the

Sean (00:55):
I did listen to this song.
Yes.

Melanie (00:57):
It's a

Sean (00:57):
Once, yeah, once I really started going, I was like, oh yeah, I know this.
So, uh, Dead Man's Partyhas to do with zombies.

Melanie (01:05):
I can't believe we haven't talked about zombies yet.

Sean (01:09):
We had,

Melanie (01:09):
episode?

Sean (01:11):
I believe it is.
I don't think we've gotten anything else.
That really was Zo There was the, uh,the science fair one in season two.
That was a zombie.

Melanie (01:25):
Right.
Yes.
But we talked about science fair.
Okay, let's talk zombies.

Sean (01:32):
Uh, this is a, this is a Trixie and Kaia joke.
Uh, what do you call azombie that runs really fast.
A zoombie.

Melanie (01:45):
Okay, so do you prefer your zombies slow and lumbering or fast

Sean (01:50):
Yeah.
It's slow and lumbering.
Otherwise it's not a zombie.

Melanie (01:53):
Old school . I just watched um, World War Z again last night.
It was on uh, TV and I watched it.
Those are some fast zombies.
I

Sean (02:03):
uh,

Melanie (02:03):
scarier.

Sean (02:05):
yeah, okay, I, alright, I do think that they're scarier, but I think
authentic zombies, you know, if I get tochoose what's authentic, um, it's, it's
the, you know, the slow shuffling ones,

Melanie (02:21):
Well, I guess maybe it's, it has to do with, um, how they're made,
you know, like if you've just got yourstandard run of the mill, old timey George
Romero, lumbering zombie, they're justlike fresh out the grave and because
they touch some space stuff or something.
Right.

Sean (02:41):
right?
Mm

Melanie (02:43):
newer, faster World War Z zombies are like, uh,
infected with like a rage virus.
Right.

Sean (02:51):
hmm.

Melanie (02:51):
that makes sense.
They would be faster and scarier.
Um, do you have a favorite,uh, zombie show or movie?

Sean (03:00):
Uh, so I'm watching The Last of Us right now.
I, would you consider them zombies?
I feel they're, they're zombie esque.

Melanie (03:10):
They're, they're infected.

Sean (03:11):
They're, they're definitely infected.
Uh, I guess, well, yeah, whatdo you, let's get serious now.
What do you consider, like, the definition of a zombie?
Like, are they dead and come back to life?

Melanie (03:21):
I don't know.
I guess it's broad, broaddefinition these days.
I don't know if there's,I mean, it's undead,

Sean (03:29):
Yeah.

Melanie (03:31):
I guess it's been a while since I've watched The Last of Us.
The person does die and come back, right?
Do

Sean (03:37):
Uh,

Melanie (03:37):
die before they

Sean (03:39):
so I, I'm only like three episodes, four episodes in.
They haven't specifically said that.
I mean, they're definitely infected.
By a fungus.

Melanie (03:49):
Yes, by like a mushroom fungus or something.

Sean (03:52):
Yep.
Yep.
One that I think I learned about in school

Melanie (03:56):
Oh.
Can I do just a little nonzombie tangent about mushrooms?
We went to the farmer's market up here, and we got Chicken of the Woods mushrooms.
Have you ever heard of these?

Sean (04:08):
before you texted me that I had never.

Melanie (04:12):
So this guy was like a certified mushroom grower.
I don't know.
There's some kind of credential he had andhe was very proud to talk to us about it.
And I, I said, I don't like mushrooms.
He said, why not?
I said, well, I don't like thetexture of cooked mushrooms
because they're kind of slimy.
And he said, oh, you got to trythis chicken in the woods mushroom.
And it was like a giant mushroom.
Like orangey mushroom and he said it'scalled chicken in the woods because it's

(04:34):
got the same texture as chicken whenyou cook it and you could just put it
in any dish where you would put chicken.
And so we bought one.
It was expensive, but webought one and my mom made it.
She, uh, she parboiled it, I thinkpar cooked it and then she coated it
in egg and then some panko fried it.
And I'm telling you, Sean, Imean, it didn't have much taste.

(04:58):
I would

Sean (04:58):
Right.

Melanie (04:59):
need to marinate it or something.
It definitely didn't have, which is aplus and a minus, didn't have that earthy
mushroom taste, which is also not myfavorite, but the texture was definitely,

Sean (05:10):
Chicken.

Melanie (05:10):
It was crazy.
Dipped it into ranch

Sean (05:14):
Yeah, yeah,
and I haven't

Melanie (05:15):
turned into a zombie.

Sean (05:18):
that's good.

Melanie (05:19):
I'm still just me.

Sean (05:20):
Yeah.
Like with that, with like somepoultry seasoning, you know, if
you're really like trying to get,

Melanie (05:24):
that would be good.
Yeah.
So you guys try it out.

Sean (05:27):
yeah,

Melanie (05:28):
So back to zombies.

Sean (05:29):
zombies.
All right.

Melanie (05:30):
sorry.
Um, Yes,

Sean (05:33):
Shaun of the dead.

Melanie (05:35):
Shaun of the Dead.
See, again, I tend tolike the funnier ones.
I really like Shaun of the Dead andZombieland, I really enjoyed because
it's funny and also very violent.
guess Shaun of the Deadis kind of violent too,

Sean (05:48):
That's funny.

Melanie (05:49):
Zombieland, yeah, I liked it.
I haven't watched that many scaryones, or I started to say that, but
I guess I have, like I've watched IAm Legend, 28 Days Later, 28 Years
Later, Mmm, World War Z what about, um,Resident Evil, you've watched those.

Sean (06:08):
I've watched all of them except that they've made one last one
still with is that Milla Jovovich.

Melanie (06:13):
Yeah, yeah,

Sean (06:14):
Um, they've made one last one with her, I think like around 2017.
I can't find it anywhere andI'm not, I refuse to pay for it.
So I just, once a month I cyclethrough the, the streaming services.
So I have seen all of those.
They're good.
Yeah, they're, they're

Melanie (06:28):
Those are, those are, those are rage zombies, right?
Those in, in that show?

Sean (06:33):
virus.

Melanie (06:34):
Virus, right?

Sean (06:35):
Oh yeah.
They're fast.

Melanie (06:36):
Yeah, they're fast.

Sean (06:37):
And then like, as the movies got on, like they get more and more
mutated, like some of them have like.
Like stuff that like, like justlike shoots out of their mouth.
It looks like, like they, like mouthorgans, like kind of like, like, yeah,
but, but like out of their mouth.
Yes.

Melanie (06:54):
Yeah.

Sean (06:55):
Um, Pet Cemetery.
Little Gage comes back.

Melanie (07:00):
Oh, yeah.
Oh, that's old school.

Sean (07:04):
Every time I mentioned that movie to my dad, he'll go,
aww, little Gage, every time.

Melanie (07:08):
the highway.

Sean (07:10):
Yeah.

Melanie (07:10):
Yeah.

Sean (07:12):
um, Night of the Living Dead,

Melanie (07:14):
Classic.
Walking Dead.

Sean (07:18):
Yeah,

Melanie (07:18):
is a movie.
Like, that's a whole,man, that's a phenomenon.
I didn't

Sean (07:22):
a year, more than 10 years.
I watched the first couple of seasons, but after a while it was like, okay, they
get to a new town, there's a villain, theydefeat the villain, there are zombies.
Like, it's just, I lost interest.

Melanie (07:39):
A town, they're in a high school, and every week it's like
there's a vampire, and they kill thevampire, and everybody's happy, and
then the next week there's a vampire.

Sean (07:50):
watch your mouth.
That's like the whole season though.
I feel like it was the sameseason over and over again.
And yeah, there were some, therewas some like Jeffrey Dean Morgan
was a good villain in that,

Melanie (08:02):
Mm hmm.

Sean (08:02):
but you know, lost interest.
Yes.

Melanie (08:08):
I think it was the World War Z, the books by Max Brooks.
He wrote, uh, Zombie Survival Guide, and I think he wrote World War Z,
was, the movie was based on his book.
they're pretty good.
You should check those out.
Um, what do you think you woulddo if there was a zombie outbreak?

Sean (08:26):
I mean, I don't, you know,

Melanie (08:27):
think
you'd survive?

Sean (08:27):
That's a really good, probably not,

Melanie (08:31):
No, probably not.

Sean (08:32):
probably not, no, I don't think so.
Um, like, uh, what's his name?
The guy who was in Parks and Recand was also in The Last of Us.
Nick Offerman?
I mean, his character in The Last ofUs, I mean, he was a survivalist and
he did survive it for like 20 years.

Melanie (08:51):
Yeah.
Yeah.
I would, I, that would not be me.

Sean (08:56):
Well, no, uh,

Melanie (08:57):
in Zombieland, one of the first things is, you know, that kid has
his rules and one of them is cardio.
That's, I'm out.
I'm out right there.
The first ones to go are the fatties.
I'm like, Oh, I'm out.

Sean (09:09):
uh, what about Evil Dead?

Melanie (09:10):
I wouldn't
make it a block.

Sean (09:14):
Um, Evil Dead?
You ever see that one?
I

Melanie (09:19):
Yes.
Are those, I guess those are zombies.

Sean (09:24):
would say so.
They're they're undead.

Melanie (09:27):
yeah, Um, and then, um, what's the one, Cabin in the Woods?
I think the first one was Zombies.

Sean (09:38):
Oh,

Melanie (09:39):
I

Sean (09:39):
right.
Family.

Melanie (09:41):
remake but

Sean (09:44):
Wait, wait, wait, what do you mean the first one?

Melanie (09:46):
the, so Cabin in the Woods was made, not the one with Chris Hemsworth.

Sean (09:52):
Not the one directed by Joss Whedon.
Didn't

Melanie (09:54):
No, there was one before that,

Sean (09:56):
know that.

Melanie (09:57):
Drew, I think it was Drew Goddard.
look it up, y'all.
Let's see, and it wasnot as very successful.

Sean (10:04):
Okay,

Melanie (10:07):
Cabin in the Woods.
I think it was Devin Sawa was in that.
Yeah,

Sean (10:11):
Oh, wow.
Okay.
So like early 2000s.

Melanie (10:15):
yeah, yeah, yeah.
Um,

Sean (10:18):
Interesting.

Melanie (10:18):
yeah.
Anyway, it wasn't thatgood, but it was zombies.

Sean (10:22):
Okay.

Melanie (10:24):
maybe it wasn't him.
I don't know.
Anyway, it wasn't that good.
When they remade it, um, with BradleyWhitford and, uh, and Chris Hemsworth and
that, that, that was a really good one.
And probably zombies were one of the, one

Sean (10:36):
Yeah, I

Melanie (10:37):
that

Sean (10:37):
feel like there was a

Melanie (10:38):
it.

Sean (10:38):
zombie family.

Melanie (10:40):
The zombie family was the one they picked.
I

Sean (10:43):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yes.

Melanie (10:46):
And smart for zombies.

Sean (10:48):
That's not good for zombies.
You don't want a smart zombie.

Melanie (10:51):
Able to use tools.
That's terrifying.

Sean (10:55):
It's terrifying.
Um, one of the, the Piers Anthonybooks that I have read, uh, there was
a war going on in the, in this seriesof books, it's both magic and science.
And one side of the war were.
Re animating the dead soldiersfrom the other side and reanimating

(11:17):
them as zombies to fight for them.

Melanie (11:20):
Oh,

Sean (11:21):
Yeah, so they're basically like doubling their force at that point.

Melanie (11:25):
Isn't that the end of, uh, the end of, um, Shaun of
the Dead, where they're, they'rekeeping the, the zombies as labor?
They

Sean (11:37):
Oh, yeah, yeah, you're right.

Melanie (11:39):
They, like, domesticate them.

Sean (11:42):
They're uh, making a Shona the Dead sequel.

Melanie (11:45):
I saw that.
How are they

Sean (11:47):
Oh yeah, I think I said that to you.

Melanie (11:50):
Oh, there was another sequel I was reading about today.
And I was like, what?
How am I going to do that?
Anyway.
Okay.
Anything else about zombies?
I don't know.

Sean (11:59):
I don't think so, thank you.
They're scary.
I don't want to be one.
Don't want to get bit by one

Melanie (12:05):
popular songs about zombies.
There's a great song

Sean (12:12):
by

Melanie (12:12):
called,
yes, that's a good one.
Michael Jackson's thrillervideo has zombies.

Sean (12:21):
When I was a kid, like a little kid, that video scared me.

Melanie (12:25):
there's a song by no more Kings.
No more kings.
They're the ones that didum, um, oh, what was that?
Karate Kid song.
Sweep the leg, Johnny.
Sweep the leg.

Sean (12:41):
Oh.

Melanie (12:42):
had no knowledge of what I'm talking about.

Sean (12:44):
no, I do.
I do.
I do.
I thought you said Chick fil A Johnny.

Melanie (12:47):
Zombie

Sean (12:47):
I was like, Chick fil A Johnny?
What?
I got it.
I got it.

Melanie (12:54):
So yeah, um, that band, No More Kings, has a song called
Zombie Me, which is amazing.
You guys need to check it out.
Um, the singer, he is, um, Pete Mitchell, and he is really cool artist now, but
he also was in this band, No More Kings.
They did a song called Sweepthe Leg, which has a great
video, you should look up.
Kind of all the Karate Kid,uh, guys doing cameos in it.

(13:16):
It was really good, but theirsong, Zombie Me, very good.

Sean (13:20):
There was a WB show called iZombie.

Melanie (13:24):
Oh, I watched some of that.

Sean (13:26):
Yeah.
Did you like it?
Yeah.

Melanie (13:27):
It was, it was CW,

Sean (13:30):
Yeah.
Yeah.

Melanie (13:30):
I think I was probably a little old for it.
Not

Sean (13:34):
it.

Melanie (13:34):
audience.

Sean (13:36):
All right.
Ready to get into it?

Melanie (13:38):
No,

Sean (13:40):
Wow, uh,
ready to get into Dead Man's Party?

Melanie (13:45):
no, let me.
And then

Sean (13:46):
Yeah.

Melanie (13:46):
was that, um, Drew Barrymore show.

Sean (13:49):
Oh, I did watch that.
Uh, it's, it's Santa Clarita Diet.

Melanie (13:52):
yeah, yeah.
I want to watch that.

Sean (13:54):
I liked it.
You'll like it.

Melanie (13:55):
You watched it?

Sean (13:56):
I did.
I watched the whole thing.
I just finished

Melanie (13:58):
a zombie in

Sean (13:58):
it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I just finished it like, I don'tknow, maybe two or three months ago.
I watched it probably like over six years.
Like I'd watch a few episodesand stop, but it's good.
It's good.

Melanie (14:09):
okay.
All right.
Okay.
And I got one more.
It's a movie.
Boy, I have watched a lot of zombie stuff.
It's called Life AfterBeth, it's got Aubrey Plaza.
And it's funny, butdisgusting and kind of scary.
Like she dies the very beginningand, um, I guess she comes back.

(14:30):
And at first her parents are tryingto like hide her in the house and
her boyfriend her or something.
And so then she's gradually becomingmore and more zombie like, you know,
more like gross and, but a good one.
It's funny.
Check it out.

Sean (14:45):
All right.
That one sounds good.
I'd love to watch that one.

Melanie (14:47):
one.
I like her.
Alright,

Sean (14:51):
All right, so, Dead Man's Party, we get a, we get a previously on,

Melanie (14:57):
Yes.

Sean (14:59):
Buffy got kicked

Melanie (14:59):
I

Sean (15:00):
out of the house,

Melanie (15:00):
recap.

Sean (15:01):
you know,

Melanie (15:02):
Basically, Buffy stabbed Angel and sent him through the portal.
She came out to Joyce, did not take it well.
Not supportive mom.
As we know, Joyce is the worst.

Sean (15:12):
she's the worst,

Melanie (15:15):
Um, and then she was a waitress and met the exotic mushroom.

Sean (15:19):
Chantarelle, yep,

Melanie (15:21):
through the black goo.

Sean (15:22):
mhm, uh, we start off, uh, in Buffy's room, she's unpacking,

Melanie (15:28):
Yes.

Sean (15:30):
and then we,

Melanie (15:30):
right off the bat something's not right.

Sean (15:32):
mhm,

Melanie (15:34):
You know why?
You know

Sean (15:35):
why's that,

Melanie (15:36):
we know this?
Because there's somber music.

Sean (15:39):
mhm,

Melanie (15:39):
in this episode, there's a lot of music in this episode.
there is.
The score is like frontand center in this episode.
And they are not leaving anything tochance that we're gonna miss any of
the subtleties of this episode andall the moodiness that's going on.
It's like an emotional rollercoaster inthis app and they're letting us know.

Sean (15:59):
Pay attention.
Yeah.
No, you are absolutely right.
Um, she walks into Joyce's room

Melanie (16:05):
Yes,

Sean (16:06):
and immediately, uh, gets insulted by her because

Melanie (16:10):
Joyce, because Joyce, yeah, Joyce, she scares Joyce, Joyce is hanging,
uh, something on the wall, and it'sa mask, Joyce, Joyce is, um, telling
us how, you know, yeah, they got thisshipment into the gallery, and, and I
figured this would look good in the house.
She's just taking the artnow out of the gallery.
She's stealing the art,

Sean (16:31):
I want to make a post because I really, I want to know, do people
think, I know we talked about it, right?
Does she run the gallery?
Like, is she a manager of the gallery?
Does she own it?
Because there's

Melanie (16:43):
either way,

Sean (16:45):
you know,

Melanie (16:45):
trying to sell things.
gotta make the, that's why she'sgot to cook the books because
she's taking everything home.
So she's got nothing to sell,

Sean (16:54):
and she just,

Melanie (16:54):
the book.
She's making a profit.
No,

Sean (16:57):
She just took the mask and just hung it on her wall.
Like, like, that's not okay.
Well, and that mask is not okay.
Like, why would you,

Melanie (17:07):
a creepy

Sean (17:08):
why would you want that?

Melanie (17:10):
It's creepy.

Sean (17:11):
Okay.

Melanie (17:11):
Um, yeah, the mask is way creepy for sure.

Sean (17:15):
But she's going to hang it up and

Melanie (17:17):
has a collection of like African masks he was a bachelor, he had
all over his wall and as when he gotmarried, like every year, the masks are,
the collection is slowly shrinking andthe masks are like going to his office.
They're creepy.

Sean (17:33):
any that look like this one

Melanie (17:36):
Um, none had glowing red eyes

Sean (17:39):
good if they did I was going to say next time you're there you need

Melanie (17:42):
two

Sean (17:42):
that one on

Melanie (17:43):
No zombies.
No.

Sean (17:44):
okay

Melanie (17:46):
so, the scene between, um, Buffy and Joyce is so awkward.
It's like, the worst awkward acting.
Like, there's a lot of, what, what, what, what, what, what, I, a lot of,
like, stuttering acting, and, um,and ums and ahs, and, and Joyce is
like, Will you be slaying tonight?

Sean (18:06):
only if you give me a lip

Melanie (18:08):
Yeah.
Ugh.

Sean (18:12):
but I know we talked about it last episode but Buffy's uh
Kelly Clarkson highlights werein full force in this scene

Melanie (18:18):
Oh, really?
I thought they were less, less, I,the, the chunky highlights I thought
were gone and she just had likestrawberry blonde hair in this episode.

Sean (18:26):
uh to me and it was

Melanie (18:28):
still there?

Sean (18:29):
to me they were very prominent yeah

Melanie (18:31):
Oh, okay.
I trust you.

Sean (18:33):
a question I had for you what else was in this uh Nigerian
art shipment That Buffy doesn'tlike because she has no taste.

Melanie (18:43):
I what?

Sean (18:45):
I don't know I'm asking you.

Melanie (18:46):
Oh,

Sean (18:47):
Open your mind.
Use your imagination.

Melanie (18:50):
Okay.
We're gonna use our imaginations now.

Sean (18:53):
Yes.

Melanie (18:54):
Um, there were like ceremonial robes,

Sean (18:58):
Okay.
I

Melanie (19:00):
um, and maybe like, um, to go with the robe, like
some ch um, like chalice.
Oh,

Sean (19:10):
like where you're going with this.

Melanie (19:11):
yeah.
You

Sean (19:12):
Okay.

Melanie (19:13):
I'm

Sean (19:13):
Yeah.

Melanie (19:14):
If

Sean (19:14):
All right.

Melanie (19:15):
some, like, um, like, uh, tribal music, I would play that, like,
know, there's like, um, what else?
I don't know.

Sean (19:26):
Okay.
Sometimes these things just popinto my head, like, I want to ask
Melanie what she thinks about that.
Uh, so she's off strolling down an alley.

Melanie (19:35):
Oh yeah.
She's got to go find Xander and Willow.
And so of course the first placeshe's going to go is the shady alley.
But of course that's where she finds them.

Sean (19:45):
Come in, Nighthawk.

Melanie (19:47):
Um, then she, like, she comes upon, yeah, she comes upon
Xander who is going by Nighthawk now.
Yeah.

Sean (19:54):
Vampire shows up.

Melanie (19:56):
Yeah.
With the roar, the lion roar
Noise is, it's big time.

Sean (20:02):
prominent, yeah.

Melanie (20:03):
Yeah.
And then there, there's a fight.
It's an ugly fight,

Sean (20:07):
Mm hmm.
Yeah, they're all getting tossed around.

Melanie (20:09):
They're not that great, but, uh, but they get, they get them.
They stake them and he's out.

Sean (20:16):
Yep.

Melanie (20:17):
and then, uh, Cordelia is like, Oh, in the middle of the fight,
Cordelia is like, Oh, hey, Buffy.

Sean (20:23):
And then right before the credits, like, they're all, like, on the ground.
Tossed, and she's just like, Hey.
Yes.

Melanie (20:29):
yeah, yeah, yeah.
They are not
looking.
I think I predicted in thelast episode they were going
to be very happy to see her.
They were not elated to see her.
were looking at her very cautiouslyand, uh, like, uh, not, not happy.
They were And then we have the credits.

Sean (20:46):
And then we go to, uh, Giles' Villa.

Melanie (20:49):
Man, the door front door on Giles's villa is very, um, substantial
and almost medieval looking.

Sean (20:57):
Yeah, yeah, nobody's getting through that.
I mean, he is a watcher.

Melanie (21:00):
yeah, you expect him to open it and the door is like this thick.

Sean (21:04):
Yes, yes.

Melanie (21:07):
But no.

Sean (21:08):
But,

Melanie (21:08):
they go into Giles's and he also is kind of awkward and
like, yeah, I'm happy you're back,but it's a little like a emotional.

Sean (21:19):
he almost looks mad.
Like, not full blown, because it'sCharles, so it's hard for him to do that.
But, he almost looks a little mad.
Um,

Melanie (21:27):
Yeah.
Troubled.
Troubled.

Sean (21:30):
Hmm, yes.

Melanie (21:31):
They're sitting on the couch and while Giles is making tea, because
that's what he does, he's a goodhost, you know, a good British host.
And so Xander's like, did you go to Belgium?

Sean (21:41):
out of all the places.

Melanie (21:43):
Cause why not?
Belgium!
I don't, I would go to Belgium.

Sean (21:49):
Yeah, they have good chocolate.

Melanie (21:51):
When is she going to get to Belgium?
She got no money.
She left, she left withnothing except her clothes.
She's not going to Belgium.
She made it to Sunnyvale.
She made it like oneand a half towns over.

Sean (22:03):
All they had

Melanie (22:03):
to

Sean (22:03):
do was like drive to the local Walmart and she would have been there.

Melanie (22:06):
Belgium, California,
in Orange County.

Sean (22:13):
Uh, Xander had very poofy hair.
I don't know if you noticed that.

Melanie (22:17):
you're on hair watch this episode.

Sean (22:19):
I am.
Yeah, it was, it was like first season,it was very just like flat loaded.
It was like, it had a lot of volume.

Melanie (22:26):
Um,

Sean (22:26):
Uh,

Melanie (22:27):
did notice

Sean (22:28):
Giles had a very, rusty water heater Yeah,

Melanie (22:34):
I would say.
In the kitchen!
Gross.
You would think he would putlike a heater cozy over that.

Sean (22:44):
they make those Absolutely.

Melanie (22:46):
I'm sure, I'm sure.
Um, so then they're chattingand Buffy is saying she just
wants to get back to routine.
she wants to go back to school, so she'sgonna have to go talk to Principal Snyder,
which we know is not gonna go well.

Sean (23:02):
She wants to go to the bronze, but nobody really wants to go with her

Melanie (23:08):
Awkward.
just awkward.
Um, so then we go to the meeting thatthey're having with Principal Snyder.
And he is dead set againsther not coming back to school.
So much so that he's tingly.

Sean (23:21):
Mm hmm and hot dog on a stick is hiring

Melanie (23:26):
Have you ever been to Hot Dog on a Stick?

Sean (23:29):
Is that a real place?

Melanie (23:31):
Yes!

Sean (23:31):
Oh, I did not know that.
Oh.

Melanie (23:36):
it's a place in California.
I think it's only California.
But it's like Corn Dogs.
Corndogs and lemonade.
That's what they're known for and theiruniforms are, um, they wear these hats
that are kind of like tall hats with alittle brim and, um, they're, they're
kind of look like a beach ball pattern.

(23:56):
They're red and yellowand blue with white.
then, uh, they got cute little uniforms.
It used to be like little jumperswith little skirt that kind
of matched the color scheme.
I'll have to find a picture of that.
We can post it.
But yeah, when I lived in California,I did like Some hot dog on a stick.
It was some good stuff, notsomewhere you want to work.

Sean (24:13):
I

Melanie (24:14):
imagine.

Sean (24:15):
So he doesn't want to let Buffy in.

Melanie (24:18):
right.

Sean (24:19):
Joyce is going to go all the way to the mayor.

Melanie (24:22):
Oh, and this is what I said.
Something about the mayor.
don't know what it is.
And Oh yeah.
And he's like, I'd like to see that.
Something.
Um, then, so they leave andJoyce is then dropping Buffy off.
Cause she's going to meetWillow for some shopping.
Right?
And they're talking about, um,you know, we'll figure it out.

(24:47):
If you have to go to privateschool, maybe you'll do that.
Drops Buffy off and Buffy gets stood up.

Sean (24:56):
That's just crappy.
I mean, I understand,you know, there's issues.
But that's just, that's just mean.

Melanie (25:02):
know, I felt bad for her.

Sean (25:05):
Question for you.
Uh, when they were in the cartalking about school options
and, um, like Joyce suggested, like some kind of private school.
And Buffy said she didn'twant field hockey knees.
What, what, what, whatare field hockey knees?
I don't know

Melanie (25:19):
Well, field hockey.
Do you know what field hockey is?

Sean (25:22):
what field hockey is, but.

Melanie (25:24):
so it's kind of like, um, the end of Mean Girls when Regina George,
I think she's playing field hockey.
It's a tough sport.
So you're like, a lot of times you'relike skidding out on your knees when
you're, you know, running up anddown the field and trying to score.
I think that's what that means.

Sean (25:39):
Okay, got it.

Melanie (25:39):
What'd you think it meant??

Sean (25:41):
No, no, I figured that was the case, but you know,
you, you're, you're a woman, so.
Maybe you knew more than I did.

Melanie (25:48):
a woman, but I've never played field hockey.
But I think field hockey is kind oflike, not rugby, because that's like
football, but like, uh, lacrosse, maybe?
It's kind of like that.
And it's kind of, I thinkit's kind of a violent, yeah.
There's a

Sean (26:02):
Yeah,

Melanie (26:03):
it's like a contact sport.

Sean (26:04):
that was a sport we were known for in high school.
We had a very goodgirls field hockey team.

Melanie (26:09):
Oh, okay.
So you've been to games.
Yes.
were there cheering them on.
Oh, no.
Oh, you weren't in the pep squad.

Sean (26:18):
No, no, that was you.

Melanie (26:19):
All right.

Sean (26:20):
Uh,

Melanie (26:20):
All right.

Sean (26:20):
and so
While Willow is getting stood up, excuseme, Buffy was getting stood up by Willow.
We get some moody pianomusic, as you pointed out.
Yeah.
So she goes, uh, she goeshome and who do we see?
Pat!
I

Melanie (26:36):
was like, Oh, Pat's going to be the zombie.
Pat is the bad guy.
Anytime we're introduced to a newcharacter, I'm like, that is the bad guy.
Or she's about to die a horrible death.

Sean (26:47):
I mean, you're not wrong on either of those accounts.

Melanie (26:49):
yeah.
Um, that actress looked familiar.
I looked her up.
But I, Oh, I remembered her from CatchMe If You Can with Leonardo DiCaprio.
She played the, um, the mom of his fiance, but yeah, she is, um, she met Joyce
in book club and she's kind of judgy,

Sean (27:12):
Oh, yes.

Melanie (27:13):
right,

Sean (27:14):
see,

Melanie (27:14):
like you put your mom through hell and, you know, Oh, you should
go in there cause you, you need todo some bonding and make up for it.
Horrible, horrible girl,

Sean (27:26):
so you know how like Our thing with Joyce is, you know, she's a felon,
tax fraud, tax evasion, everything.
The first Buffy podcast that Ilistened to like all the way through
was Buffering the Vampire Slayer.
And their thing was that Pat andJoyce like had a secret fling

Melanie (27:43):
Oh,

Sean (27:46):
They came up a lot with that.

Melanie (27:48):
I could picture it, you know, Joyce is bereft

Sean (27:53):
Vulnerable.

Melanie (27:55):
Pat, you know, vulnerable and they're at the book club and
then they go back and have some wine

Sean (28:01):
Some empanadas.

Melanie (28:05):
Who knows?

Sean (28:07):
Yep, yep.
So, Buffy and Joyce are talkingand she wants to have a little
dinner party with the company

Melanie (28:16):
Yes, get the company plates.
Do you have company plates?

Sean (28:20):
We do, I will say we're using, it's my parents china set.
So like from the early seventies,
You've

Melanie (28:25):
never broken them out for me.

Sean (28:27):
I have,

Melanie (28:29):
The company plates?
Oh.

Sean (28:33):
cause we use them for holidays.

Melanie (28:35):
Oh.
I don't have company plates.

Sean (28:39):
Smart.

Melanie (28:40):
that's an older person thing.

Sean (28:42):
It really is.

Melanie (28:43):
she does go down to get the company plates in the basement.
And she finds the old dusty dusty framedphoto of her and Willow and Xander.
Which,

Sean (28:52):
Cause she's, she's been gone for five years.

Melanie (28:54):
Why is that down there?
Why is that not in her room?
I mean, it's not like Joycewent and cleared out her room.

Sean (28:59):
That's where she was going.
She was going to let Pat move in there.

Melanie (29:02):
Oh, maybe, maybe.
Yeah.

Sean (29:05):
Um, she also finds a dead cat,

Melanie (29:07):
That's where they were going to put the sex swing.

Sean (29:08):
oh no, no, no, uh, dead cat down there.

Melanie (29:16):
Yeah, really dead.
Gross.

Sean (29:18):
They bury it.

Melanie (29:19):
And so this is where they say the line, I got this random text
from Sean I had watched this episode.
Goodbye stray cat who lost its way.
We hope you find it.
That's all I get from Sean.
This is our relationship I justget like the most random texts,

Sean (29:36):
Um,

Melanie (29:36):
now I know what it is.

Sean (29:38):
Yeah, that's good that they buried it.
They didn't just like tossit in the trash or something.

Melanie (29:44):
Oh, no.
Yes.
Yes

Sean (29:46):
Sure.
Somebody would.
Uh, Buffy goes to bed at 11 34 PM.
That's late for high school.
I was not going to bed that late.

Melanie (29:56):
I don't know.
They're usually at the bronze.
So, you know, they're going to be out.

Sean (30:00):
Fair.

Melanie (30:01):
bronze at like 8, 30, 9,

Sean (30:05):
Yeah.

Melanie (30:05):
for a couple hours, have your tea, read a book,

Sean (30:09):
Croissant?

Melanie (30:11):
croissant, witness the harvest.
And then, you know, you gohome and it's 11 o'clock.
Can't sleep.
She's having intrusive thoughts.
You know, she's having problemsbecause the music is telling us
she's having intrusive thoughts.
Um, and then we see the maskand the lights in the eyes.

(30:31):
Ooh,

Sean (30:32):
and then zombie cat.

Melanie (30:35):
then, yeah.
And then, uh, the bad effect of the cat.
You don't even see the, youjust see the dirt and it's
obviously like, um, or something.
Cause the dirt is moving like this.
And you don't see the catactually coming out of the dirt.
You just see the cat, like, jumping.
Like, they put the cat in a box,and they just had the cat jump.

(30:56):
And meow.
Dead cat,

Sean (30:58):
Yep.

Melanie (31:00):
Um, nothing happens.
We just see the cat get outta the grave.
Um, Buffy is entering the school andshe's wearing this shirt she's wearing.
It's backless.
She's not wearing, it's not a straplessbra because that would go around her back.
So I don't know what she's wearing.
It's inappropriate for school.

(31:22):
I don't know if theyhad my TikTok right now.
My TikTok is full ofads for these um, cakes.
They're like silicone thingsyou wear instead of a bra.
They're kind of sticky.
They're like discs.
So I was thinking maybeshe's wearing cakes,

Sean (31:40):
Yeah.

Melanie (31:40):
inappropriate.
I didn't like it.
Um, I said her boobs look really weird.
I'm not boob shaming,
an inappropriate shirt.

Sean (31:52):
I agree

Melanie (31:53):
The school is empty.
Very weird.
And then she's in thecourtyard and Angel is there.
I'm like, Oh, it's a fricking dream.

Sean (32:00):
again.

Melanie (32:01):
Yeah.
Again, another dream.
There's a lot of dream sequencesgoing on in this season so far.
Um, and he says, she,um, says, I'm afraid.
And he says, you should be afraid.
And then you should go join yourfriends who are waiting for you.

Sean (32:18):
That's it.

Melanie (32:19):
I, yeah, that's it.
And then she wakes up to a bell slashbuzzer and her alarm clock buzzer.
That is the worst.
Oh, I would hate to wake up to that.

Sean (32:29):
I guess, I guess the job done.

Melanie (32:32):
Yeah, it does.
But then you wake up, like, in a bad mood.
At least I would.

Sean (32:36):
Yeah, yep.
What a way to

Melanie (32:36):
start your day.
Um, so yeah, it was a dream.
And then, um, she's talking to Joyce.
And Joyce has been talkingto the superintendent.
getting her back into school.
then she suggests that Buffygoes to a private girl's school.
Buffy's not happy about that.

Sean (32:56):
No, no.

Melanie (32:57):
um, she's like giving Joyce some back talk about it, you know, like,
geez, why don't you just blah, blah.
And I will say Joyce, Joyce has agood point here that this is all
because Buffy made some bad decisions

Sean (33:11):
Yep.

Melanie (33:11):
she's going to have to live with some consequences.
And I said, yeah, that's right.
That's right.
As much as I hate to agree with Joyce.

Sean (33:19):
I did not like that she said, It's not like I ride the little bus to school.
That's

Melanie (33:25):
know.

Sean (33:26):
Yeah.

Melanie (33:27):
Joss.
Um, oh, and she's saying, and she's sayingthey should make some allowances for you.

Sean (33:38):
She's special!

Melanie (33:39):
Yeah, because you're special.
And, and then, why can't you tell someone?
Tell the police they'dlove to have a superhero.

Sean (33:47):
Is that, is that the right term for her?
Would you consider her a superhero?
No.

Melanie (33:56):
I would say, I would say, she is, I would say she's an anti hero.
I would say on the spectrum, the D& D,uh, RPG spectrum, she's chaotic good.

Sean (34:11):
Yeah.

Melanie (34:12):
Right?

Sean (34:13):
Yeah, I agree with that.
You know who is just chaotic?
The zombie cat.

Melanie (34:21):
Yes!
The

Sean (34:22):
It's in the kitchen.

Melanie (34:24):
The dead cat is back.

Sean (34:27):
call Giles.

Melanie (34:29):
Yes, they call Giles, he comes in with his dead cat carrier.
Um, and I said, wow, that is areally well trained actor cat.
he was able to put it intothat carrier so easily.
I don't know if you've had, you'vehad cats, you know, they don't
go into the carrier like that.

Sean (34:46):
No.
Uh,

Melanie (34:47):
They're gonna be screaming, splaying out.
That was a good actor cat.

Sean (34:53):
yeah.

Melanie (34:53):
he got a bonus for this episode.

Sean (34:57):
Some real high quality albacore.

Melanie (35:01):
Yeah, probably.
Or, or sedated.

Sean (35:06):
In the library, uh, the cat's there.
Oz wants to call him Patches.

Melanie (35:11):
Yeah, I know.
Oz likes the cat.

Sean (35:15):
I don't know if you noticed, but I did.
Oz had, or Seth Green, reallynice eyes in that scene.
Never noticed them before.
Maybe

Melanie (35:25):
We'll have

Sean (35:25):
I'll post a screenshot.

Melanie (35:26):
screengrab of that.
Oz and his nice eyes.
Alright.
You're

Sean (35:33):
so,

Melanie (35:33):
these little details in
this episode.
I'm very impressed.

Sean (35:38):
um, the discussion of whether it's a gathering, a shindig, or a hootenanny,
my husband and I quote this often.

Melanie (35:47):
Really?

Sean (35:48):
Yes, especially when we're talking about, like, what kind of, like, party
we're gonna have or something, and, like,I just like saying a hootenanny is a whole
lot of hooten, just a little bit of nanny.

Melanie (36:00):
Do you think their, their descriptions are correct?

Sean (36:03):
Absolutely.

Melanie (36:04):
Okay.
Um,

Sean (36:06):
I have,

Melanie (36:06):
agree that Brie is stinky.

Sean (36:08):
no, not Brie not stinky.

Melanie (36:10):
And then, um, Willow suggests that Oz brings the band to play.
Which is very presumptuous, I would say.

Sean (36:16):
Mm hmm.
Yeah, it's turning into a gathering.

Melanie (36:20):
hootenanny without, like, bringing in a band and the
whole school to wreck the house.

Sean (36:25):
Right.
Yeah.
And as they're, uh, talking, the maskis in a book Giles is flipping through.

Melanie (36:34):
Yeah, he's

Sean (36:34):
Mm hmm.

Melanie (36:36):
But he doesn't actually look at it right then.
He's like, talking while it's,you know, flipping to the page.
I know.
Oh, Giles!
Um, okay, so then, Buffy and Joyce aresetting the table with the company plates.
And then Ding Dong, it's Pat.
And she's got her empanadas.
And she's coming to dinner.
Guess who's coming to dinner?

(36:56):
It's Pat.
Pat, the possible lesbian.
Yep.
And again, she's got somemore judgment for, for Buffy.

Sean (37:05):
But I love Ah!

Melanie (37:06):
I laughed at this when she's, yeah, Buffy's like, do
you want to talk to my mom?
Mom!

Sean (37:12):
Yep.

Melanie (37:13):
That was funny.

Sean (37:15):
And the dingoes showed up.

Melanie (37:16):
pretty authentic, I'd say.
For a teenager dealing with,uh, their mom's friend.
All right.
I'm back.
I'm back.
It's still recording though.
Interesting.

Sean (37:25):
yes, still going.
Um, alright, so I got Pat.

Melanie (37:31):
were we?

Sean (37:32):
And then the dingoes showed up.

Melanie (37:33):
Yes.
Um, and the party is raging.
Um, it's, I wrote, it's a full fledgedhootenanny and Buffy does not look happy.

Sean (37:43):
Now there's awkwardness all over the place.

Melanie (37:45):
Yeah.
Yeah.
She tries talking to Willow whois having very selective hearing.

Sean (37:51):
Holding her drink

Melanie (37:52):
she's like, Oh, are you having fun?
Okay.
Yeah.
Great.
And then Buffy says something.
She's like, I can't hear you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Acting.
Acting.
Um, so then Buffy calls her outof the room and confronts her and
Willow maintains that everythingis fine, but it's not fine.
It's not fine.

(38:12):
Um, and then we see the mask again.
Woo.
And we see a, a murder victim on thestreet with the police and the murder
victim gets up and, and, uh, yeah,

Sean (38:21):
There's a

Melanie (38:22):
stuff is going on.

Sean (38:23):
in an ER, which is probably the most accurate healthcare
scene we have seen yet.
But then he, you know, he becomes a

Melanie (38:31):
The burn victim.
Yeah.

Sean (38:33):
a good

Melanie (38:34):
And you just hear the sounds of him wreaking havoc in that OR.

Sean (38:37):
kitchen.
Shots!
Shots!
Shots!
Oh, I didn't see that.
I didn't see that.
It's almost worse.
You see

Melanie (38:45):
Wait, wait, wait, did, um, did we already, did we do Buffy is at
the refreshments table at the party?
I don't know if you notice this.
This is just me.
Maybe she's at the refreshments tableand there's a dude standing there like
mauling popcorn, shoving it into his face.
And then he looks at Buffylike, Hey, how you doing?

(39:05):
Like, oh, maybe, you know, like that.
Oh, my gosh.
And then, uh, And she walks away and thenthat's where she overhears the guests
talking about they don't even know whoseparty this is some some chick and then she
overhears Joyce talking to Pat about how,you know, it's hard that she's back and.

(39:28):
It's almost worse.
Ugh.
Why do you say that, Joyce?
Don't

Sean (39:35):
She's a bad mom.

Melanie (39:36):
That kind of stuff.
Worst.
Um, okay.
And then, um, And then she goesto her room and starts packing.

Sean (39:44):
Uh huh.
Yeah,

Melanie (39:46):
The mask is still glowing.
And the zombies are still growing.
And then, uh, the zombiesare headed toward the house.
Oh, boy.
The hottenanny is about to pick up.

Sean (39:58):
there's a whole lot of hoot.
And even more

Melanie (40:01):
Yeah.
A lot of Hoot.
And a lot of Nanny.

Sean (40:04):
Buffy and Willow go at it.

Melanie (40:07):
Yes.

Sean (40:07):
I don't agree with what Willow did by standing her up,
but Willow had her own problems.
And didn't

Melanie (40:14):
Yeah,

Sean (40:15):
to.

Melanie (40:16):
I mean, she's right.
I mean, she has her own life goingon, and Buffy, it's all about Buffy.
I mean, Buffy does have an extraordinaryamount of stuff going on, but yeah,
she hasn't been a very good friend.

Sean (40:28):
It's almost like when your good friend, like, moves to the next state.

Melanie (40:31):
I, as I was saying it, I knew it was coming.
Oh, you guys.
All right, so anyway, so, um, Let's see.
Oh, and she does mention againthat she's studying witchcraft.
So obviously that's goingto play more of a part.
And I know, I know just frompop culture that there is like a

(40:52):
whole storyline of her witchcraft.
Right.
Um, and then at this point, Gileshas figured out what's going on.
He saw the page with the maskand he's rushing to go find
a Buffy and to help them out.

Sean (41:03):
Yeah.

Melanie (41:03):
Um, but he runs into the zombie attack
and the zombies.

Sean (41:09):
Um, he tries calling first.
And

Melanie (41:12):
Yes.

Sean (41:13):
somebody answers

Melanie (41:13):
the

Sean (41:13):
phone.
Party

Melanie (41:14):
It's the guy with the popcorn.

Sean (41:16):
It's who?

Melanie (41:17):
like, I think it's the popcorn guy.

Sean (41:19):
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay, okay.

Melanie (41:21):
I don't know.
Maybe it isn't.
I don't know.
But he's like, Is there a buddy, buddy?

Sean (41:27):
You got the wrong casa, Mr.
Belvedere.

Melanie (41:29):
That's right.
That's right.
Oh, man.

Sean (41:31):
I also like the line when Giles is driving.
Do you like my mask?
Isn't it pretty?
It raises the dead.
Americans.
Americans.
Americans.

Melanie (41:40):
I know he's so frustrated, but he was admiring
that mask when he first saw it.
When he came to pick up the cat, hewas like, Oh, yeah, that's a nice mask.

Sean (41:48):
He

Melanie (41:48):
He had no idea either.
But come on, you live in Sunnydale.
There's a there's a mask on the wall.
You know, it's going tobe haunted or something.
Anyway, so, OK, um, Buffyand Willow are still arguing
Joyce walks into Buffy's room and she ispissed off because Buffy is packing again.
She's like, what the hell?
What are you doing?

(42:09):
And um, she's, I wrote, Act 3 of thisepisode is just Buffy being really upset.
And frustrated.
And everybody being pissed.

Sean (42:19):
Yeah.

Melanie (42:19):
This is where it's all coming to a head, and then she leaves the room,
she goes back down to the party andJoyce follows her and is like giving
it to her in the middle of the party.
Embarrassing.
Ooh, in front of all her non friends.

Sean (42:32):
Yep.
In front

Melanie (42:33):
I mean,

Sean (42:33):
of all her classmates,

Melanie (42:34):
yeah, they have no idea who she is, but they're all gonna
stand around and watch this.
And her friends actually come out andthey're all standing around watching
this, you know, lurking on thesidelines as people do in this show.

Sean (42:44):
and Joyce has had schnapps.

Melanie (42:46):
she's had schnapps.
Buffy does make a good point thatJoyce is the one that said if you
walk out the door, don't come back.
So yeah, good point.
Joyce, Joycey.
Um, and so everybody's attackingBuffy and then Buffy's like
anybody else want to weigh in?
How about you by the dip?
Poor Jonathan.
Jonathan?

(43:07):
No, thanks, I'm good.
I'm beginning to love Jonathan.

Sean (43:13):
He's fine.

Melanie (43:14):
I'd love to, I'd love to find him and interview him.

Sean (43:16):
Danny Strong?

Melanie (43:18):
Yeah, Danny Strong.

Sean (43:19):
we can try.

Melanie (43:20):
Let's try.

Sean (43:21):
right.

Melanie (43:22):
All right, so, um, The zombies are attack, attacking
Giles in his car, and of coursethe keys are like outside the car.
He can't get to the keys.
So he hot wires the car.
So a skill he learned, you know, back in his ripper days, I imagine.
Right.
All right.
Um, yeah, he says likeriding a bloody bicycle.

(43:44):
The zombies, the zombies in thisepisode are very slow, except for when
they're punching that car window out.
That guy like railed really fast.
Um, so they're still arguing atthe party and then the zombies.
Breakthrough the plate glass.
This is the plate glass momentof the show, this episode.

(44:07):
Um, they're breaking into thewindows and doors, big fight
scene, even Joyce is helping out.
She breaks something oversomebody's head or something.
Um, Pat gets attacked.

Sean (44:18):
Poor Pat.

Melanie (44:19):
It's a short lived affair, if they were having an affair.
Um,

Sean (44:23):
young.

Melanie (44:23):
Popcorn Guy gets his neck snapped.

Sean (44:27):
Yeah, Joyce

Melanie (44:28):
Yep.

Sean (44:29):
are these zombies?
I mean, excuse me, are these

Melanie (44:31):
These vampires.

Sean (44:32):
not vampires.

Melanie (44:33):
Nope.
Love vampires.

Sean (44:35):
run upstairs.
You never go upstairs.
I

Melanie (44:38):
They don't know the rules.
They haven't seen Scream.
They don't know.
Um, and so yeah, so they'regonna barricade the door.
And then the zombies go rightthrough the door anyway.
Doesn't matter.
Um, bring Pat with us.
Mistake.
You don't bring the zombieattack victim up with you.
Nope.
Um, Cordelia and Oz head to a closet.

(45:00):
In which case I was like, Ooh, don'tgo into the closet with Cordelia.
This is where she likes to make out.

Sean (45:06):
You're

Melanie (45:06):
I did think that.
I was like, oh, is she gonna, is shegonna cheat on Xander with Oz now?

Sean (45:11):
that'd be a good story line.

Melanie (45:13):
But no, they don't , they go to the closet, the mask falls off the wall.
The eyes are glowing.
Pat's eyes open.
Oh.
Commercial break.

Sean (45:23):
Yep.
That's a zombie.
Ovumobani.

Melanie (45:27):
she a zombie, she is a zombie that then puts on the mask and
becomes the embodiment of the demon.

Sean (45:35):
Which I

Melanie (45:35):
Yes.

Sean (45:36):
Google.
It's nothing.
.Melanie: It's nothing.
I mean, Ovu.
Ovu.
Ovum.
egg.
Eye,

Melanie (45:44):
Yeah.
Yeah.

Sean (45:44):
see it.

Melanie (45:46):
Mubani.
Spam Musabi.
Musubi.
Mitsubishi.
Anyway, okay, so Pat puts the maskon, she becomes the demon incarnate,
and she says, I live, you die.

Sean (46:02):
Buffy gets

Melanie (46:02):
Her magic power is flashing eyes.

Sean (46:06):
but it does seem to stun for a second.
Not very long, but

Melanie (46:10):
At least just, yeah, one second,

Sean (46:12):
Mm-Hmm?

Melanie (46:14):
which is enough, I guess, to really do some damage.
Cause she does.

Sean (46:17):
Mm-Hmm.

Melanie (46:19):
Buffy is fighting demon Pat and figures out the eyes are the secret
power, which gives her shovel to the eyes.

Sean (46:30):
Was it a shovel or a pitchfork?

Melanie (46:33):
It was a shovel.
I think it was the shovelthey used to bury the cat

Sean (46:38):
Oh,

Melanie (46:38):
that was out there.
Yes.
Yes.

Sean (46:41):
up.
Oz and Corte had ski poles, so yeah.

Melanie (46:46):
Yes.

Sean (46:46):
I like that how she's like, Hey Pat, and then made you look

Melanie (46:50):
Yep.

Sean (46:50):
and then,

Melanie (46:51):
Yep.

Sean (46:51):
then all the zombies just disapparate

Melanie (46:54):
and poor Oz is like, I'm coming out to help you.

Sean (46:57):
Never mind

Melanie (46:58):
Oh.
Um, we go back into the house.
Everybody comes togetherwith the poignant music.
Oh, oh, we're really happy.
And then everybody confesseswhat's on their minds.
And now we're all friends again.

Sean (47:14):
hugs.

Melanie (47:16):
Big hugs.
Now we are back in Snyder's officeand Giles wants to have a word.
Mm hmm.

Sean (47:24):
He puts the

Melanie (47:25):
And Snyder, he can't talk cause he's got a meeting with the mayor.
Mm hmm.
Um, but Giles slash Ripper throwshim against the wall and says
he can make his life difficult.
I like it

Sean (47:42):
Yes.

Melanie (47:42):
standing up for his girl.
He was very, very threatening, but he'sstill smiling, which was even scarier.
I thought I would be like,Ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm not messing with this guy.
Um, then we cut to Buffy andWillow or at the shopping center
for their shopping date finally.
And she's listening to Willow talk abouteverything that's going on in her life.

(48:04):
And she's being a good friend toWillow and, uh, and her witchcraft.

Sean (48:10):
Yep.

Melanie (48:10):
Yeah.
Yeah.

Sean (48:12):
The pigtails are back.

Melanie (48:14):
Yeah.

Sean (48:16):
the pigtails.

Melanie (48:18):
And then that's it, right?

Sean (48:20):
Yeah.
Yeah.
They have a little like funspat calling each other names,

Melanie (48:24):
Oh, that's right.

Sean (48:25):
how it ends.

Melanie (48:25):
Whore.

Sean (48:26):
Witch

Melanie (48:27):
digger.
Wolf, wolf dater.

Sean (48:30):
So

Melanie (48:33):
And that's it.

Sean (48:34):
what do you think overall?

Melanie (48:36):
I put in, in closing, Did the cat disappear like the zombies?

Sean (48:41):
I bet it, did

Melanie (48:43):
You think so?

Sean (48:43):
do?

Melanie (48:44):
Okay.
Cat dust.
What did I think?
Um, it was okay.
Yeah,

Sean (48:53):
How many stakes

Melanie (48:54):
it was okay.
How many stakes do I give this one?
Um, the shovel to the face was good.
That was very satisfying.
Um,
I feel bad that, uh, nowJoyce lost her friend.

Sean (49:08):
Hmm.

Melanie (49:09):
But it's good that Joyce knows that this kind of stuff is
going on because I don't know howthey would have explained that away.

Sean (49:16):
Yeah, that's a tough one.

Melanie (49:19):
Um, I will give this one two and a half stakes.

Sean (49:23):
Okay, I'm going with three and a half.

Melanie (49:27):
Ooh, three and a half.

Sean (49:29):
Three and a

Melanie (49:29):
That's a good score.

Sean (49:30):
I, I like, there's a lot of good one liners in this one.

Melanie (49:34):
Okay.
All right.

Sean (49:36):
My,

Melanie (49:36):
Okay.

Sean (49:37):
favorite line was, do you like my mask?
Isn't it pretty?
It raises the dead

Melanie (49:42):
That was pretty funny.
That was pretty funny.
Um, did I write down?
My favorite moment.
It wasn't really a line whenPat, when Buffy's like, do
you want to talk to my mom?
Do you want to see my mom?
That made me laugh.
Yeah, that was good.

Sean (50:00):
All right.

Melanie (50:01):
So what's coming up next?

Sean (50:03):
Next we have season three, episode three, faith, hope and trick.

Melanie (50:09):
I don't like that name.
Grammatically.
I don't like the name.

Sean (50:13):
Okay, we'll discuss more.

Melanie (50:16):
All right.
Okay.

Sean (50:17):

Melanie (50:23):

Sean (50:25):

Melanie (50:27):
Yeah.

Sean (50:28):
Beforehand.

Melanie (50:28):
Well, before I, before I saw, um, well, I know that there's,
Dushku in it because it was on thefront page of the, uh, of the thing.
