Tune in and let's unveil the magic together.
Hello, everyone, and welcome to the official first episode of the Tahoe Unveiled podcast.
My name is Marci. And my name is Kenzie. And we're so happy to have you here.
We decided to start a Tahoe Unveiled podcast because we wanted to bring all

(00:45):
things Tahoe and all things wedding planning to you in a different medium than just blog text.
So we're so thrilled to be able to bring some planning advice,
interviewing some vendors and restaurant owners, businesses around Tahoe to you in interview form.

(01:06):
And then we're looking forward to sharing some fun tidbits.
Tahoe tidbits. Tahoe tidbits and our just interesting facts about Tahoe,
interesting things that are going on around the lake. We just want to bring
Tahoe in all of its glory into your everyday life.
So to start off our first, very, very first podcast, I'm going to let you know

(01:31):
one Tahoe tidbit that I just think is so interesting because Tahoe is so vast.
And I don't think we think about how vast Tahoe is and how much water is in there and how deep it is.
So if you are standing in Carson City, if you're in Carson City right now,
shout out to you guys. Where is Carson City, Kenzie?
Carson City, for those who don't know, are down the valley.

(01:54):
In California? In Nevada. And it is the Nevada State Capitol.
It's a great, cute little city. Love it down there.
But if you stand in Carson City...
You are actually at the same elevation as the bottom of Lake Tahoe.
So Lake Tahoe is so deep that that entire drive down to Carson City is basically

(02:15):
the same as diving down all the way to the bottom of Lake Tahoe. That's crazy.
Just not as cold. Just not as cold.
And the bottom of Lake Tahoe also, here's another fun fact for you,
another Tahoe tidbit, the bottom of Lake Lake Tahoe stays 39 degrees year-round. Wow.
It is so cold. It's definitely not that cold in Carson City right now, at least.

(02:39):
It gets that cold in wintertime, for sure, and colder.
But those are some two Tahoe tidbits for your day. I love it.
Thanks for sharing that, Kenzie. You're so welcome.
And there's many more to come where that came from.
So let's introduce ourselves, Kenzie. For For those who don't know,
let's just share a little bit about our history and why we have credibility

(03:03):
with this podcast and sharing wedding planning details and fun things. Yeah.
So I, Marci, I own three different companies, One Fine Day Events,
Tahoe Unveiled, and Marcella Camille Events with my husband,
Brian, who will sometimes be on this podcast. cast.

(03:24):
I have been in the event industry since about 2007.
I'm going to really date myself here, but that is almost 15 years,
I think, maybe a little bit over that.
And I launched officially in 2014, a first business, and eventually took over

(03:47):
One Fine Day Events in Tahoe Unveiled. And I love serving people.
That is, my name is, full name is Marcella Camille.
And Marcella Camille Events just fits perfectly as the name for the first business that I started.
Marcella means goddess. Really, it means goddess of Mars. It's like a warrior

(04:08):
goddess. And then Camille actually means ultra servant.
And I just, when I like finally put two and two together, that's like exactly
my life calling. So I'm doing exactly what I was created to do.
But beyond being a wedding planner and bringing inspiration and advice and helping
to serve vendors with Tahoe Unveiled and bringing inspiration to couples looking to get married, um.

(04:31):
I have worked in a lot of different facets in the industry, including with a catering company,
in florals, a photographer's assistant, as a wedding singer,
lots of different assets and avenues, and not just as a wedding planner.
And then I've been a bridesmaid 10 times. I get to be a bridesmaid again this year, so 11 times.

(04:56):
Been a flower girl way back when I was little. And, you know,
most importantly, I've been able to be a bride. So I understand a lot of the different facets.
Oh, yeah. I've also worked as a venue coordinator or a venue host,
managing the sales and the operations of weddings from a venue standpoint a couple times in my life.
So I really, really know the intricacies of planning events and planning weddings.

(05:20):
And so, yeah, that's a little bit of information about me and why I'm here. Yeah.
Let me jump on to my little background. My ethos for you is I am a little bit
newer into the industry.
I started out with luxury picnics. Absolutely loved it.

(05:42):
Loved the company I worked for. Everyone was fantastic.
But I wanted to get into a little bit bigger events. And so I found Marcy.
But through that, I actually worked at a bridal salon.
So I know quite a bit about, you know, your wedding dress and the times and
all of those things and the designers.
I love looking at those things. Fashion is like one of my passions.

(06:04):
So I'm because these are fashionista.
Yeah. And so from there, I started working with Marcy and I've been with Marcella
Camille Events and OFD and Tahoe Unveiled and absolutely love it.
It is my favorite thing. yeah and I also
do help coordinate galas in

(06:26):
Reno worked with two different
non-profits there and I absolutely love
and adore that that is one thing that fills my soul is yeah helping others and
is it's just it's great I love every every second of it every tiring tiring
second of it exactly yeah it looks really luxurious yeah when you're attending

(06:49):
or looking at the photos and videos, but behind the scenes.
A big labor of love. It's a big labor of love. It is also one of our passions,
Marcy and I's passions, talking about how to revamp yourself,
how to like fulfill yourself after a wedding, because it takes a lot.
It's a lot of emotional energy. It's a lot of physical energy.

(07:11):
It's something that you, we both have felt this many times, like after a wedding,
just feeling depleted and so tired and so just like, how do we get past this?
And it's something that we as a team work really, really hard on to make sure
that we're all there emotionally and physically and checking in with one another
and saying, hey, are we good?

(07:32):
Do we need five minutes? What do we need? Where are we going?
All of those kind of things. It's really important to us. You'll probably hear
us talking about it a lot in this podcast.
Yes. And we have plans to invite someone who specializes in this to share,
not just from a vendor's perspective, but also for a couple's perspective.

(07:52):
How do you make sure that you're staying mentally, emotionally,
physically well during the stress?
The entire wedding process, because it's not easy.
The good stress and the bad stress. The good stress and the bad stress.
It's not easy. It's not quick. There's so much time that all of you are putting
into your your weddings.

(08:13):
And we know that it can take a lot. And so we have a lot of advice,
a lot of things that we want to like share with all of our couples as well as
all of our other vendors to just center yourself again. Totally. Yeah. Yeah.
Yay. Thanks for sharing that, Kenzie. Yeah. Should we share like a favorite wedding moment?

(08:33):
Oh, yes. Oh my gosh. I have too many to choose from. I swear. Yeah.
You know, I do think I have one.
Last summer, actually, one of my favorite wedding moments is when,
so the bride and groom, they were not planning on doing like a venue reveal

(08:54):
or a reception reveal, but it just happened organically.
And their reactions to me, I was so tired.
I was just like, I've been in the sun for hours. I was just like,
I'm ready to go home and I'm not even like halfway through this event.
And the bride and groom come over with their photographer because their photographer

(09:14):
wanted to take pictures of that side of the venue.
And the look on this bride's face of just absolute excitement and happiness just like refreshed me.
I was just like, okay, I am ready to do whatever because she was so excited
and she just was so happy to see her dream come to life. It just was, it just was everything.

(09:37):
Yeah. The shock and delight. Yeah. I have those images just from the photographer.
It was just, it was perfect. It makes everything worth it. Yeah, it really does.
Those moments or after the wedding when they were like, that was my dream wedding. That was perfect.
It just reminds you of like what we're doing this for, you know?
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah.

(09:58):
What about you? What's your favorite Favorite wedding story.
Wedding story, wedding moment. I think I'm going to go with the moment. Moment. Yeah.
And my favorite wedding moment is always, always, always when the bride walks down the aisle. Yes.
Being able to, we as any planner really would do this, but we as a team,

(10:19):
we are cuing everyone when it's their moment to walk down the aisle. Yes.
And then we get to take a special moment with the bride and make sure that her gown is perfect.
Some brides don't prefer us to hold their gown or their veil or they don't have
much that needs to be held.
But when we get to just help take care of them in that special moment,

(10:41):
remind them to soak it all in, to breathe and to take their time and enjoy it.
And then seeing them walk down the aisle, seeing their partner on the other side.
Yes. with tears in their eyes. It is so good.
Yeah. And then, you know, whoever from their, you know, from their life with
it, some brides walk themselves down the aisle, some with their fathers.

(11:03):
Yeah. That is just so special, so intimate.
I love the little moments before they walk down when it's just like the bride
and her father, the bride and her siblings, whoever's walking them down and
they just look at each other and they're like, are you ready for this? Totally.
And they're just like, it's my favorite moment to be a part of and witness.

(11:27):
Totally. Yeah. Something so intimate. And obviously, a wedding.
That is the most important part, is those two people committing themselves to
each other for the rest of their lives.
And arguably, the most important part, like celebration of their lives.
Yeah. So yeah, it's pretty incredible.
Pretty incredible. It really is. I think Thank you.

(11:50):
We sometimes as wedding professionals and a lot of vendors listening to this
probably will relate where we're just like, okay, well, it's another Tuesday,
you know, it's another Saturday.
Yeah. Just going through the motions. We're getting there.
And those moments that happen throughout those weddings just bring us back to no way.
This is the most important day for these people.
Totally. And like, we are just here to witness this amazing glory.

(12:15):
Like, and it's just, I love those moments because it just reminds you of like
how much these people love each other and what they're here for. Yeah.
Yeah. I just I it's such an honor. And I will I am known in our team.
I will cry at all of the weddings.
I just I'm an emotional person. I think. Yeah. I just am like, I can't watch.

(12:37):
I can't listen to the vows. I can't watch the father
daughter dances always get me always just
like but I just and it's always tears
of joy it's just always I'm like I'm so happy that
these people and these these for us specifically
we've been working with them for a year some over a year yeah we have like one

(12:57):
client that's almost two years you know and we we have gotten to know them so
well and how important all of these things are and so So it's just great to
like see and watch and be experienced.
Okay, I have to say one other like favorite moment of the wedding,
which is not really a moment.
It's a part of the wedding, is the dance floor.

(13:20):
Yes. I love watching everyone get jiggy with it and get this on the dance floor.
And you get to see all the relationships.
Yes. Everybody where they're like, you're like, oh, you guys have been friends for so long.
Yeah, all the nuances. is that there's lots of people watching and...
People. Yeah. And understanding what makes them tick.

(13:42):
And, you know, it's, yeah, it's food, beverage, dancing.
That's like what makes a celebration. It makes a celebration.
And, you know, for those of you who have seen Inside Out, it's just joy taking
the controls of everybody in the room.
You know, it's just like, it's just pure joy. Yeah. A whole dance floor.
It is. Yeah. That's such a favorite time.

(14:04):
And as event professionals or event planners,
really yeah that dancing moment an hour
plus there's not there's not really much for
us to do other than making sure that the bride isn't like popping
out of her dress which has happened before making sure
no one needs anything from our emergency kit but that's an opportunity of we've
everyone's eaten the dancing has started all the special you know traditions

(14:29):
have taken place and it's just everyone's celebrating that it is just the time
to like let loose and have fun And there's no more big hard items on our timeline.
So we get a chill and the guests and everybody is just like having the best
time ever. It's so fun. Yeah. Yeah.
Okay. Should we share one like wedding story?

(14:54):
Not nightmare. I don't want to say that. But one wedding snafu. One wedding bad.
I don't want to say bad. Something that we've like, you know,
fixed. A little fire that we've managed for our couples that they've never known
about or would have never known about.
I was going to say you should say the story of the dress.

(15:15):
I'll tell that one because that one was fun.
That was fun. And that is one that our bride did know about.
But we also have a lot of other stories of snafus,
things that happen throughout the day that our brides never know about that
they might listen to this podcast and then see, hear some like familiar things

(15:36):
and went, that happened at our wedding. Right, right, right, yeah.
Because they're so – we take care of every single detail and make sure that
the bride and groom just are absolutely enjoying their day and can.
And that's why, you know, you have a planner, I guess. planner.
This is a plug for why to have a planner.
There's like three ranges of planners. There's coordination,

(15:58):
there's partial planners, and then full service planners.
So just make sure you have someone in that category to take care of those fires
and those details for you and then just manage everything for you.
Yeah. It takes all the stress away during that wedding day and you get to celebrate.
Totally. But let me tell you this story of our bride, our lovely,
lovely bride, who popped out of her wedding dress during dancing.

(16:22):
So this is a snafu that obviously she knew about. And we are sitting in our
green room just like it's during dancing.
So we're taking a break, maybe eating some dinner. I don't really remember what we were doing.
And one of like the friends or the groom pops in and goes, we need your help
right now. And we're like, okay, what is going on? We're getting ready.
And she comes out and the zipper is completely broken off the back of her dress.

(16:49):
So we first take our needle and thread and we try and sew her back in the dress.
The thread keeps breaking and we're like, okay, whatever.
And we end up putting a line of safety pins down her whole back and we pin back
up her train because it got unbustled in the whole snafu.

(17:13):
And the whole time, you would expect the bride and groom to just be,
like, absolutely upset and, like, horrified and, like, just distressed.
The bride and groom the entire time are laughing and just joking with one another,
just having the absolute best time of their lives.
So the groom looks at her and he goes...

(17:35):
Babe you look so punk rock
right now yeah and she's like babe no yeah
they were just and during that
too they found some wedding crashers and were just joking along with them just
having the best time ever it was it was honestly one of the cutest moments and

(17:58):
just was like i just looked at that couple and i was like you two are in love
yeah you two are truly in love I forgot about the wedding crashers.
The wedding crashers too. They walked up to them and they fully said,
can we crash your wedding? They did.
They were like up front about it. I forgot about them. That's so funny.
And the groom looked at him and said, I mean, you're here.

(18:23):
So yeah, we don't have many wedding crashers at our wedding.
But that was the only instance I've ever seen of a wedding crasher.
And it was a hilarious interaction.
That was so funny, yes. Yeah, I totally forgot about that.
That's a good one. That's a good one. Okay, so some, I have like a handful of stories like this.

(18:46):
And basically, this is your fair warning. Make sure that you hire a baker who
knows what they're doing.
Yes. As far as preparing cakes for most of weddings in Tahoe take place in the summer months.
There are, of course, fall and spring and winter weddings, but in the summer, it comes with heat.

(19:07):
Yes. There's not a lot of air... There is air conditioning, of course,
but outdoors, there's not.
There's some venues that don't have air conditioning because they're more historic, etc.
But yeah, there's been like way too many weddings where...
The cake was not frozen before it was frosted and brought out,

(19:30):
or it was set out in the heat way too long.
And after years of doing this, now I know, I know.
We don't bring out the cake until absolutely necessary, or we make sure that
their pastry chef, their cake designer, they know what they're doing,
and we want it to be frozen first.

(19:51):
Yeah. And then iced and it will thaw as the day is going on,
but it's not going to be sitting out there and melting.
I have seen way too many at this point where the cake has melted and fallen apart.
And I, one specifically, like I was out in Colorado, actually,

(20:11):
I lived out there for a couple of years and it was a naked cake that fell apart
and just like collapsed.
And that one certainly should have been frozen first and then brought out.
And don't ask me what like the science
is of it being frozen before that like you know
what makes it a little bit I do know it's yeah it is
in the solid form there yeah it makes it a little bit stronger but that

(20:34):
we had to resurrect and redecorate and readjust some flowers pick some flowers
that were safe to put oh my gosh not all florals are safe to consume like edible
yes so So make sure that you're aware of all those details before dressing up a cake.
Yeah. Or doing drinks. Or doing drinks.
We had a bride who was like, we're doing baby's breath, we're doing baby's breath.

(20:57):
And we get day of and our bartender looks at us and goes, baby's breath is toxic to humans. Yeah.
And we're like, what? So unless you want your guests.
Yes. Yes. Sick in the restrooms all night long. I do not recommend actually
adding this into their signature cocktail.
Um, which we didn't think twice about it beforehand.

(21:18):
And now we always do. Yeah. And you will see, like, you will see those drinks
in Pinterest with a baby's breath
and it actually like causes an upset stomach. So don't do that, guys.
Don't do it. Yeah. But we had one, we had another one this last year with a
pastry chef and it just came out and started melting. Yeah. It was three tears.

(21:39):
We're like, okay, well, there's not much that we actually can do here.
So let's just make sure it's well photographed in the best way so that it doesn't
look like it's going to be falling over, like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Yes. And we were like, let's get the photos first, please.
We need that now. And then there's events.

(22:00):
Yeah. Some other ones, it was just, yeah, it was just melting in the sun.
So we actually like moved the cake cutting up to the very first thing so that
they could cut it and then the caterers could take it back and have it plated
and ready to come out. And it worked just fine.
I think the only ones who noticed that it was like melting was us and the photographer and the venue staff.

(22:21):
Like the bride and groom definitely did not notice. And that was perfect. Right. Yeah. Yeah.
Anyways, those are, those are some fun stories. Yeah.
I'm sure that you as a listener, if you, if you've been in the industry for
a while, have interacted with that and as a couple.
Yeah. These are some fun wedding things.
And I'm sure that there, you know, you might have some fun stories to share,

(22:45):
maybe from your own wedding or friends' weddings.
Yes. These experiences, that would actually be really fun to listen to.
No, I love that. Yeah. Wedding snafus or hiccups as a guest.
