(00:00):
Okay, I think we're live.
(00:06):
And if we are, and hope we're not dead, this is David Ben Murphy.
Welcome to the Tailpax One channel.
And this started, I don't know, a year ago I started fooling around with this.
The idea of podcasting live on YouTube.
(00:27):
And we have a toll-free number, 866-471-4321. I haven't done a lot of broadcasts yet, but what I do
is I was going to be at this time, Saturdays, 7 Eastern, 4 o'clock Pacific. So today, my announced topic, and by the way, we'll talk about anything that's on your heart
(00:50):
to talk about. I mean, it's not my purpose to give a sermon here or to necessarily say anything
specific. An opening topic I think is good and may attract attention, although maybe not.
So let's see here. Some weeks back, about three weeks back, I think, my friend J.D. was visiting
(01:18):
us from Alaska. He's in Alaska. Right now he's on Kodiak Island, up there off the coast of Alaska.
Essentially, I understand, it's a Coast Guard station.
Most of the town works directly or indirectly for the Coast Guard.
Beautiful place.
And he just got there, just started a long-term assignment as a master electrician,
(01:41):
which he's been doing all his adult life.
So, getting back on it, somehow the topic of demons came up and angels came up.
And I'd always thought that angels were spiritual beings without bodies.
I think that's what I was taught as a kid.
That would be, of course, as a Catholic kid growing up.
(02:04):
But he insisted that angels do have bodies.
It's demons that don't have bodies.
So that got me to thinking, okay, demons don't have bodies.
I asked him, well, where do demons come from anyway?
And he said, well, it's on the Bible, and I don't, therefore, don't want to talk about it.
(02:25):
Well, tell me you don't want to do something, and that just spurs me further.
So, I started thinking about it.
And there's a pro and con argument back and forth, whether or not angels have bodies.
Demons from all appearances definitely don't. That's why they're so insanely crazy to inhabit bodies. Demons, from all appearances, definitely don't.
(02:52):
That's why they're so insanely crazy to inhabit bodies.
But, at least that's true in Scripture.
And it's true, certainly in the Hollywood movies.
I think the premiere movie on it, of course, is The Exorcist.
But that's pretty sensationalized.
Demon possession, is that even the right word?
The word demons, I'm not even sure that I care for that word.
(03:14):
I mean, I'm sure it has an origin.
But the real question to me, are there evil spirits?
Are there spiritual dynamics working in life?
And
the purpose of this broadcast, by the way,
again, we talk about
scripture, we try to
(03:35):
be submitted to what
the Bible says. Of course,
we don't accomplish that
because
I'm not a theologian, not a scholar, and even if I was, I would fall short anyway.
Falling short, coming off the mark, that's of course the classic definition of sin.
(03:57):
I am a sinner. That's my main qualification to be on this broadcast, which is intended to be a bi-directional broadcast, a conversation.
Hasn't been yet.
And maybe will never be.
I don't know.
But I thought it's an opportunity to have a discussion group anyway with people wherever they may be on the planet, if they have time to talk, to get together and talk things over.
(04:33):
The premier subject of the broadcast is James 5.16, to confess your sins one to another and pray for each other that you might be healed.
sins one to another and pray for each other that you might be healed.
And that's something that's done all too little amongst most Christians.
(04:53):
It is done among Catholics, but only on a one-way street.
The first two years, you don't hear his.
I'm not sure that's what James had in mind.
One to another seems to me to be a two-way street. It should be a two-way street, praying for each other.
And it is God that forgives. But getting back on the subject of demons
(05:15):
or evil spirits,
I went back in my notes from
the past year.
It turns out that the pastor of the little church I go to did make a sermon on demons back on March 23rd of this year.
(05:36):
He said a few things.
The one thing that stood out was Satan has never been to this little city of Atascadero, California,
simply because he has bigger fish to fry.
But demons, and whatever they may be,
I mean, didn't really describe it too much,
are commonly everywhere.
(05:58):
Get back to it.
What are our demons?
How do you recognize them?
Or how do you recognize that they've been present or are present?
Is this even important?
Maybe it's not.
It seems to me that recognizing spiritual evil is important.
(06:22):
First time in my life I think I've ever encountered real spiritual evil, demonic
influence, possibly possession. It goes way back to when I was an Air Force Academy cadet.
when I was an Air Force Academy cadet.
(06:45):
And this is, let's see,
oh, October of 1970.
There'd been a girl I had met,
and her name's Suzanne.
I'll leave it at that.
She was never a real girlfriend,
but she was a fantasy I had.
It kind of spurred me on,
kept me going during the very difficult summer training,
(07:07):
a prisoner of war training in 1970, something I was very fearful of. I wasn't a Christian
at that point. I'd given up being a Catholic at that party. I rented a car and picked her up. I think that's at her parents' place at Fort Carson. Her dad was supposedly a colonel in the army. She said that she was a military brat all her life.
(07:44):
army. She said that she was a military brat all her life. She was attractive, tall, blonde,
and took her to the squadron party. Months later, my air officer commanding of the squadron said that she was very attractive. Of course, by that point, I had nothing to do with her.
(08:05):
My encounter was after the squadron party. We always did that off base at a place called Black
Forest. I remember Black Forest near Colorado Springs as being the site of a glider port. I had
my one and only glider lesson in life there at Black Forest near Colorado Springs in 1970 also.
(08:31):
But I was driving off from the party, and I think I actually had intentions of renting a motel.
I mean, you know, I don't remember that detail,
but it must have been true given the circumstances.
It was after midnight.
(08:51):
And whatever, again, it's been a long time,
but she felt pressure from me.
And it was the first incident in my life
where I got rattled to the bones.
I mean, I was totally, totally shook up by my experience in the car with Suzanne.
(09:15):
Here we are, it's after midnight.
I'm due back at my squadron area, no later than 2 a.m.
I remember this was a time-change night in October.
It must have been the last Sunday of October.
And you had to be there before the time changed the first time.
(09:37):
Goes to 2 o'clock, then rolls back and goes back to 2 o'clock.
Otherwise, I'd be facing disciplinary action.
And I think I'd already decided I was willing
to accept a common-ass disciplinary board by not reporting on time. I don't know. Looking back on it
was kind of crazy. But what happened in the car, she turns to me in a fury and anger that I had never experienced before in my life.
(10:07):
Says, GD, stop the car. GD, I'm a homosexual.
Don't you get it? I'm a homosexual.
And I got it. I stopped the car.
She got out. This was in the middle of nowhere. I mean, it wasn't near any, there were no city lights. It was on a highway, an isolated, desolate highway coming from Black Forest, going back in the direction of the academy, I think.
(10:51):
of the Academy I think and she yelled at me I mean and the anger the fury in her everything about her it really shook me up stopped the car she got out in the
middle of nowhere and I sped away and I sp sped away at 100 miles an hour in the rental car. I was so rattled
and I wanted to get away from her so bad. And I was risking my life. And I probably rationalized
(11:20):
that it was good to be hurrying because, you know, I didn't want to get slammed with too much,
too many demerits for being a little bit late. And I was a little bit late. And I'm sure I served
confinements to my quarters the following weekend. But I was so shook up by that. So
(11:51):
up by that. So I was shook up by the extraordinary hatred, and I was shook up by the energy that she expressed, and it was something I didn't see coming. I'd only mention it because I think it was my first encounter, at least the one that became to mine, with demonic activity.
So that was way back then.
(12:18):
You don't have to go far to see evidence of spiritual evil demons.
One of the ways of suspecting demonic activity
is when things happen for no reason,
(12:38):
no explainable reason.
And let's see here.
So, what comes to mind is this guy in the news,
the random killer at Devil's Den, Arkansas.
And it was a better picture room
(12:59):
in this morning's Fox News,
which I've been able to find.
And a couple of things. People commented about his sunken eyes.
The look of them, is that what a demonic person looks like?
Such a park.
(13:30):
Why did he do it?
And it's a mystery.
And I suspect it's a mystery without an explanation.
And evil that has no purpose, that has no reasonable origin.
It's an example.
If you want to go back in history, of course, we can think of World War II, come up with lots of examples.
(13:59):
Extreme hatred, characteristic, I think, of demonic activity, especially extreme hatred without cause.
The Jews come to mind, the hatred expressed by almost all peoples on the earth for Jews.
I mean, they seem to be universally hated.
(14:20):
That would be, I think, without reason.
That would be, I think, without reason. If you watch the news, just tune in on almost any gathering of Middle Eastern people. And they're chanting, death to Israel, that's an example of extreme hatred, again, without cause.
(14:52):
I myself have experienced hatred, with no good cause, certainly.
Back during the time of my arrest, and I was falsely arrested back in 1994.
And if you want to know more about that,
just go to Google Telpax 1,
(15:13):
T-E-L-P-A-X-1,
and you'll be able to listen to an audio recording
I have of my experience in jail.
But inmates wanted to kill me
kick me in the head if they could in the van on the one time i went with other prisoners that didn't
(15:36):
happen again my other my next visits to jail were solitary i had my own vehicle to get to jail because it wasn't safe putting me in with other prisoners.
But it's an example of what we're talking about.
How do you explain it?
(15:59):
You know, so many things can't be explained.
There's one point I wanted to make, I think, on this broadcast about evil spirits and demons.
(16:20):
And that is, and I've been thinking about it in my life, I've noticed that there's a point of entry.
There's a deliberate acting out of sin.
And when you do that, you accept the evil associated with it. What am I talking about?
(16:45):
One of my
another example of being shook up, I remember
back in, all the way back in the spring of 1977,
New York City,
I don't know of a
more evil place I've ever been to.
(17:05):
I mean, I think that cities and places have spiritual presences.
There are spirits that dominate in the town where you live or the town where you work.
And walking around New York City, I can say that, and this is back in the late
(17:29):
70s, at that time, I was in, to say I was in great rebellion against God was an understatement.
against God was an understatement. Before I talk about that, I went into a pornography story. Now,
(17:55):
I would buy my pornography in New York because my experience showed me that that's where you can get the most evil pornography, the stuff in other places. the number two place was Hollywood. It was Hollywood back on Western Avenue, I think, in Los Angeles.
But that was mild compared to what you could find in New York.
And I remember looking around and not buying anything at the porn store.
(18:18):
And then the gentleman behind the counter says, hey, I have something special to show you.
And that's where I'll leave the description. It was special.
And I bought it and brought it home
and used it once.
(18:39):
And I, after that,
loathed it and, okay, felt very ashamed of it.
But there was something much more.
I felt a disturbance.
I felt disturbed, deeply rattled, kind of the way I was with Suzanne, although not as rattled.
(19:02):
But that kind of being upset and I immediately destroyed the special pornography.
And I was surprised. I didn't even find it very appealing at any time.
at any time.
(19:23):
But certainly
some pornography
has
evil spirits associated with it
or provides an opportunity for evil spirits
to come into your life.
But on that occasion,
I substantially said no to it.
And this is the point
of what I want to say right now,
(19:44):
that if you reject the invitation
to come in by the evil spirits, that will stop them in their entry into your life.
The other times, much more serious times actually, and we're not just talking about pornography, we're really talking about the main rebellion of my life.
(20:19):
married another man.
And by the way, that's another story.
But I blame God for it.
I called God a liar because I felt that he had promised me unconditionally
that Beth would be my wife.
And of course, God doesn't make unconditional promises.
I mean, you find some.
(20:41):
It's always, if you do this, I will do that.
If you're faithful, you'll sit on the throne of David forever. It's conditional. Invariably, we don't meet the conditions. And the promise becomes null and void.
(21:14):
of what God is doing, but because of what we have done. So if you say yes, and I said yes in a big way, I mean, I shook my hand at God and I swore I would never serve him. And I would do everything, everything in my power to hurt his people.
I couldn't hurt him directly, but I could hurt those that he cares about, Christians.
I promised to do what I could to hurt them all.
(21:37):
And talk about evil.
And the story is a bit complicated, but I said, there were evil spirits associated with that.
And I said yes to them.
(21:58):
And they came into my life.
And frankly, it had deeply affected the course of my life.
So, this is a forum I hope that people can share their experiences on important questions or even unimportant questions.
(22:26):
The point of the conversation here is not a conversation yet. It's a monologue.
But the monologue, unless somebody calls me,
then it'll be a conversation.
I'm not sure we're going to have a conversation
anytime soon.
(22:46):
Okay.
So,
all right.
We can say yes, we can say no
to the evil spirits.
(23:16):
And all too often, I've said yes. It seems that demons are, the importance of demons are minimized by Christian pastors. They say, yeah, they're all
around, but no big deal. They're little guys. They're pretty
stupid. They're not a problem. And yet the world's full of them. I think yes to the evil spirits back in 1975, I was embracing falsehood and lies.
(24:05):
there was a spirit of those lies. Now, lies have taken over in the American way of life, I fear.
Biggest lies, well, seems like most of what you see and hear in any media is not true.
(24:28):
It could be subtle or it could be obvious.
Demons.
I thought maybe they were the spirits left over.
From Genesis chapter 6 talks about angels having sex with women and producing giants as offsprings.
(24:56):
And the bodies of those demonic entities would have been killed in the flood.
Although, if you look at the Bible history,
you see them coming up later on,
most notably with the giant Goliath
facing David.
(25:19):
But other places, too.
The spies sent out by Jonathan
said there were giants in the land. So how did they
survive the flood? I'm not sure these matters matter too much. It's kind of interesting.
(25:40):
The Bible doesn't really give us the answer. Some of the non-biblical sources,
other Hebrew writings,
before the time of Christ,
do talk about the demons
(26:00):
being what was left over from the flood
of evil creatures.
There's some strange association, though,
with demons and sexual sin.
Scripture says that sexual sin is the only sin
(26:24):
where the sinner sins against himself.
So it's a special standout.
And demons, I think, are very envious of human beings being able to, if not create, human beings can procreate and they can have,
(26:48):
they can create intangible things, ideas, and convert those ideas into physical
form with their hands. Of course demons can't do that. They don't have hands, except if they inhabit a body to give them hands.
(27:11):
But there's, I think, a special association with sexual sin and evil spirits.
They're often called unclean spirits.
They're often called unclean spirits.
For many years, I observed my fraternal twin brother,
who, I'll never forget, he was living in our house for a year and a half.
(27:35):
And in one incident, he was chasing after my wife as she stepped up the stairs from downstairs to upstairs.
And she had her shoes off, socks off, bare feet.
And my brother went after the feet and said,
I gotta have those feet. I gotta have those feet.
(27:56):
And I think it was an example
of an unclean spirit.
My brother, I believe, was troubled by unclean spirits
all his adult life. I always saw him as imprisoned, as somebody in a dungeon. The little, the Eddie
(28:21):
that we knew, that I knew as a child, that we all knew as a child, tender, loving, caring brother, was imprisoned.
He wanted to get out, but he couldn't.
(28:42):
So there's another characteristic I observed about demonic activity.
And that is a, I mentioned uncleanness, and of course that refers to the sexual ailment, but often refers to living conditions.
(29:03):
When my brother died, my wife and I were involved with not so much cleaning up his apartment, but going through and preserving the few things that were left.
Preserving.
But the place was a mess.
And it was such a mess that my brother very seldom let me visit him in his apartment.
(29:24):
He was ashamed of it.
Now, the same condition existed when my stepson, Glenn, died.
A few months later, I went to Minnesota to preserve things from the apartment.
to preserve things from the apartment.
(29:46):
The apartment was worse than my brother's.
And it was filth, I mean, garbage all around.
And to me, it was evidence of evil spirits dwelling there or dwelling in the people that live there.
(30:07):
Something to look out for.
I myself,
before the podcast started cleaning a little bit,
there's my bottle of cleaner.
I didn't get really a time to use it,
but I was thinking of it.
Of course,
do I have uncleanness in my life?
(30:29):
Well, yes.
I'm a sinner.
I think I mentioned that.
I am trying, though.
And trying to be closer to God
day by day.
No calls.
(30:49):
And somehow it doesn't surprise me.
There might be a few people listening this time.
That would be an improvement.
One of my friends said that I was insane
for being a public person.
I'm not sure what he meant by that.
(31:11):
Maybe just being public with matters that are
intimate, personal.
I think it's a reaction, aside from what God told me to do
so many years ago,
it's a reaction to something my brother said, asking about his personal life,
(31:35):
whether he had any girlfriends, and he said,
We do not discuss such matters.
Poor boy.
Never talked to anybody about anything personal that mattered.
And I know I don't want to be like that.
I don't think I have much to worry about on that score.
(31:59):
But there's a lot for me to worry about, except that worrying doesn't accomplish
anything.
The one thing it does accomplish is something, something very great, is to draw close to God.
(32:22):
Reading scripture, praying, singing, those things matter. Whether you can see them, see the results or not.
Anyhow, I've been out here long enough.
And if somebody ever does call in and this becomes a conversation,
(32:43):
these podcasts do start at 4 o'clock Pacific, 7 o'clock Eastern,
but there's no stop time. They'll go on as long as there's something to talk about, or
until we need a break.
That hasn't happened yet, but that's
(33:03):
what's on my mind and heart
To
Get the
Eternal
Conversation going
That's it for now
Thanks folks for those
That listen
God bless you
And have a great one
