Surviving a nightmare first duplex deal: tenant sabotage, major repairs, and financing hurdles
Leveraging a househack to slash living costs and launch a full-time investing career
Getting licensed, building a local network, and expanding to Texas

How early mistakes — like neighbor decisions and CapEx surprises — can shape long-term strategies
The importance of focused real estate education and not chasing every shiny object
In TCREI Show #40, we’re joined by Jordan Moorhead, a real estate investor, Realtor, and team leader whose investing story started with a disastrous duplex in Minnesota — complete with sabotaging tenants, deferred maintenance, and creative financing via a personal loan and IRA.
That gritty househack became the spark. Jordan got licensed, started coaching new investors, and gradually built a strong base of business in the Twin Cities. Eventually, he moved to Austin, TX and partnered with Tim Swierczek to expand their network, investing in mobile home parks and commercial properties along the way.
Despite his success, Jordan stays humble, generous with his time, and focused on long-term growth. This episode is less about Minnesota specifics — and more about resilience, strategy, and scaling with purpose.
