(00:09):
We are those guys.
We hope to be your guys back with youhere, uh, counting down to week seven.
Uh, don't worry, you didn'tmiss an episode last week.
I was, uh, a little tied up.
Nick Ferguson, now a fatherof two, family of four.
Things are outstanding.
Uh, but we made it.
We're here, um, because regardlessof, you know, what goes on in our

(00:30):
personal lives, the National FootballLeague will continue to roll along.
Nick Ferguson, former 10 year NFL safety.
What's going on, my man?
It is fall and we're headinginto another week of football.
It seems like it's going by too fast.
I can hear Ed Sable's voice over like, Theclassic NFL films, music with the crisp,

(00:54):
uh, you know, you think Raiders, right?
The autumn wind is a pirate.
Um, for, for those of you in Denver,Colorado, Nick Ferguson, or anyone
who is not where I am in SouthernCalifornia, well, probably feeling
those fall conditions and, youknow, the leaves are changing and,
uh, teams are changing as well.
Nick, this week was rocked by a pair of,uh, premier wide receivers on the move.

(01:16):
Davante Adams reuniting with AaronRogers and Nathaniel Hackett.
With the New York Jets, with the Raidersgetting a, uh, a third round pick and
return, um, there are some conditions, but we're, we're pretty much assuming
it's a third round pick barring the Jets,uh, don't make it to the Super Bowl.
Meanwhile, Amari Cooper now being tradedfrom Cleveland to the Buffalo Bills.

(01:37):
So you talk about the rich getting richer.
Um, look, the AFC East wasalready as tough as can be.
We saw these teams duke it out in a verycompetitive Monday night football game.
And now they both get stronger.
Uh, let's start with Devontae Adams, Nick.
Uh, back with Aaron Rodgers, back in this type of offense.
Um, there's, you know, abig acquisition like Adams.

(02:00):
Kind of fix this offense that hasto, you know, um, carry the load
knowing that this is a top fivedefense or they need to, they need
to pick up their share of the weight.
This doesn't fix any of theissues for the New York Jets.
On the surface, it appears as though itdoes because You are putting Devontae
Adams back with Aaron Rodgers, but let'sbe totally honest about this Jets team.

(02:25):
They revamped and retooledtheir offensive line.
It was supposed to be better than itwas last year, but they're still having
issues as far as protecting, but moreimportantly, blocking for Brees Hall.
I thought the Jets were going to comeout and light the league on fire.
Making those adjustments on theoffensive line and being able to run

(02:46):
the ball better, That has fallen off.
But the other thing is AaronRogers hasn't really been himself.
Now you can try to blame MikeWilliams as though Aaron Rogers
did , uh, after the game.
And,
and look who's available for tradenow that, uh, Devonte Adams is Mr.
The guy who had a hamstring injuryand it was a Festivus miracle.

(03:06):
He was healed.
He's ready to go andhe is expected to play.
on Sunday, but this doesn't resolvethe issues because think about it.
The Jets only have DevontaeAdams and Aaron Rodgers on loan
for maybe one or two years.
And listen, the best that theJets can do over 2024 and 2025,

(03:28):
maybe get in the playoff picture, maybe make a little noise.
Is this a team that canget you to the Super Bowl?
I don't think so.
And the addition of Adams, it'sonly going to make things worse.
For the jets, because it'sgoing to fill the fan base with
false hope only to be let down.
Well, you talk about a number of weaponsand high profile ones at that you

(03:49):
listed Garrett Wilson and Brees Hall.
And, uh, you know, they haveemerging players like Braylon Allen
and certainly, you know, we knowwhat we're getting in Allen Lazard.
Um, but this is a football team that'stwo and four, uh, that are coming
up on Sunday night football againsta good Pittsburgh Steelers defense.
That.
You know, can kind of attack allthe areas that they need improvement

(04:10):
on and receiver not necessarily.
Being one of them, but just thecomfortability that Rogers has.
This is a Jets offense that's comingoff of their, let's say, one of their
better performances this season forthe first six weeks of the year, um,
going toe to toe with the Buffalo Bills.
And what I think is interesting is thebest version, the back to back MVP seasons
of Aaron Rogers without Devontae Adams.

(04:32):
Was with Matt LaFleur and the use ofpre snap motion, identifying defenses
rather than having Rogers diagnosedat the line or reacting, um, you know,
which is a testament to what, uh,what a talented, uh, player that he
remains to be the pre snap motion, Ithink against Buffalo really helped
in determining what the best route of.

(04:54):
This offense getting down the fieldwould be for the New York Jets.
They're still unbalanced.
They still need to commit to runningthe football, which is harder to ask
now that you have Garrett Wilson andDevontae Adams that both command targets.
But I'm optimistic that ifthey play the league average,
this defense remains top five.

(05:14):
You know, then they could becompetitive for a wild card spot.
They're now what, three games behindthe bills after they just lost on
Monday night, but organizationallythey fire their head coach.
Maybe we connect the dots and say,Robert Sala wasn't as desperate to
bring in a Devante Adams as maybeJoe Douglas, the general manager
fighting for his job now as well.

(05:36):
But I, you know, it's, it's,it's an incomplete report card.
It's six weeks through.
We haven't seen what it's like for.
Adams to get settled in this versionof the Aaron Rodgers offense But I have
to be a little more optimistic than atleast what I saw the first six weeks
um You know, I I still don't have anylofty expectations beyond nine wins Uh

(05:58):
and competing for a wild card position.
Um, do you want to Let's see.
Do we want to stay in the afc eastor kind of the ripple effect with?
Um the raiders now who mark daviswas quoted we traded devontae adams
For Tom Brady and a third round pick.
Tom Brady and a third round pick.

(06:19):
See that would sound great if TomBrady was donning the silver and black.
And he would fire up that fanbase, but he's just somewhat of a
minority owner that may be used tobring in sponsors and sells tickets.
But getting rid of Devante Adams, for me, spells doom for the Las

(06:41):
Vegas Raiders, because here's why.
What receivers do you have?
You have a bunch of young receiverswith Jacoby Myers being a veteran.
You got rid of Hunter Renfro to start theseason, which I thought was And then you
didn't draft a quarterback and you didn'teven allow Aiden O'Connell to remain your

(07:01):
quarterback and then build around him.
You decided to go out and get GardnerMinshew, only to tear things down
to try to rebuild them, but stillpromote, sell to the fan base.
Look at this shinylittle toy we have here.
His name is Tom Brady.
Like, that is going to change.

(07:22):
How the fans feel about the Raiders.
But really quickly, Buffalobringing in Amari Cooper.
This is Amari Cooper's fourth team.
And it was a desperateploy by Brandon Bean.
A lot of teams being desperate.
The Jets being desperate, the Bills beingdesperate because they had Stephon Diggs.

(07:44):
But, Stephon Diggs was a true receiver.
He wanted the damn balllike Keyshawn Johnson said.
But guess what?
He's got a quarterback who wants all theglory, but not all the responsibility.
But then you realize you made a mistake.
So now you gotta go get Amari Cooper, who I still believe has something

(08:04):
in the tank, has something to give.
But does this move make theBuffalo Bills a contender?
I say no.
Wow.
Well, define contender, becausethey're leading the division, we just
panned the Jets, the Dolphins andthe Patriots aren't going anywhere.
So is this a team that, beforethe addition of our Amari Cooper,

(08:27):
walks to that AFC East divisiontitle, I think their fifth in a row.
But just no aspirations forthem to win a playoff game.
Nick, is that kind of where you're at?
Yeah, because I mean, ifyou're talking contender, we're
talking Super Bowl contender.
We're not talking playoff contender.
I mean, that's the lane that theBuffalo Bills and Josh Allen have
lived in for the past couple of years.

(08:49):
It is time for them to get past thathurdle, which is Patrick Mahomes and
Kansas City, but we saw when they faceBaltimore after demolishing Jacksonville.
Building up the hopes for Bill'sMafia, only to watch it just kind
of wither away when Derrick Henryran all through their defense.

(09:10):
Right, so they're clearly issues thatthey were Uh, having to make sacrifices.
It's a Josh Allen extension.
It's the money thatthey gave to Von Miller.
I mean, that's, you know, Brandonbeing in your desperation, I always
hearken back to, they absolutelynailed the quarterback selection.
And frankly, the fact that Josh Allenworked out to the way that he has,
has been a detriment to so many otherteams that believe that they see

(09:33):
this ball of clay and they can moldit into a Josh Allen type of player.
Meanwhile, it's.
Just Paxton Lynch.
It's just Trey Lance.
It's just, you know, these toolsieguys that don't work out and teams are
convinced that they can do whatever, uh,the Buffalo Bills were able to do again.
They drafted Allen.
Setting that aside, they spent so muchpremium capital on defensive players, and

(09:57):
yet still felt the need to go out in freeagency to pay a premium for Yvonne Miller,
for other pieces of this offense that, I'msorry, of that defense that, listen, they
let both of their starting safeties walkin free agency, and as much of a great
story Damar Hamlin is, um, for, for, Imean, coming back, um, to life, but just

(10:19):
not the same type of player that they wereused to in Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde.
So, the deficiencies on the defense,I agree with you, are keeping them
back from being, um, a true contender.
But offensively, They focused on the run.
They did well in selecting Ray Davis, who weathered the storm of a James Cook
injury, and he may be that guy who has thered zone carries where James Cook operates

(10:43):
between the twenties, but Omari Cooperis having a rough start to his season,
uh, tied for the league lead and drops.
Um, maybe it's a team stat and howbad Deshaun Watson has been in that
dark cloud over the Cleveland Brownsfranchise, which to that fan base is
just another day that ends in Y for them.
Um, I guess it, it gives them an optionand it's also again, back to Brandon

(11:08):
Bean, six games into his professionalcareer, Keon Coleman, isn't the type
of player that they needed at the X.
So they paid draft capitalto make an upgrade there.
And to provide, um, let's call itlike it is a stop gap, um, while the
Cleveland Browns did pay, you know, amajority of this, uh, Cooper contract.
So on the cheap, they can put somebodyout there that Josh Allen can eventually

(11:32):
get comfortable with and could.
You know, uh, add totheir big play potential.
So I like it.
I don't love it, but I understandthe, uh, position that the Jets put
themselves in with Aaron Rodgers.
Meanwhile, the Browns and the Raidershave put themselves in no man's land.
Um, really we can just hit the snoozebutton until 2025 with those teams.

(11:56):
Yeah, we can definitely, uh, do that.
I mean, for this Bill's team, how far can they really go?
I know you're talking about AmariCooper and leading in drops.
It just seems as thoughthat chemistry wasn't there.
And sometimes it's a change of scenerythat invigorates every single person.
We'll just have team number four, likeyou said, team number four is the change

(12:19):
of scenery, but is it kind of fool'sgold, Nick, because Listen, uh, this
is the third team that has now tradedfor Amari Cooper, thinking that it
would put their offense over the top.
Ask the Cowboys, the Browns, and maybethe Bills, they didn't get to the
promised land they were hoping for.
And same thing with Devontae Adams.
The Raiders thought thatreuniting him with Carr would

(12:40):
get them to the promised land.
They have one 500 season to show for itbefore Derek Corr is kicked out the door.
We could talk about TyreekHill, the Miami Dolphins.
We can talk about A.
J.
Brown, the Philadelphia Eagles.
At least they made aSuper Bowl appearance.
These big swings by some of these teams togive up first, second round draft capital,
reset the market at the receiver position.

(13:01):
Ike, what example do you havethat that's worked so far?
Well, there's not a lot ofexamples to say that that's worked.
Uh, I mean, if you want to go and lookat what the Rams did, pushing their
chips to the center of the table,Acquiring Von Miller and Odell Beckham
Jr., well, that is an example of workingout for one of the teams, but if you

(13:22):
ask Sean McVay now, would he do itthe same way, both he and Les Neat?
Probably yeah.
Yeah.
And that comes aftertrading for Stafford, right?
They had their quarterback.
Right, because the idea is thatwhat would you will be willing to do
for a chance to win the Super Bowl?
Luckily for the Rams, they were ableto pull it off every other team.

(13:43):
It goes back to the scenario andthe phrase that we often heard.
We are one player away from actuallygetting to where we need to.
Right.
And in the case of the Jets, theyjust figured as though they were
one player away when it came togetting an adequate receiver who had.
Precision timing with theirquarterback Aaron Rodgers.

(14:03):
But here's the thing, we still don't know.
We still have to wait to see it play out.
And the great part about it,we're not approaching the
final two weeks of the season.
This is still a long season.
So we'll see if the Jets can musterenough offense to get them over the top.
It'll be interesting to see.

(14:24):
Um, you know, both theseteams are in prominent roles.
Uh, the Jets Sunday night againstthe Steelers and the Buffalo Bills
meanwhile hosting the Tennessee Titans.
So maybe a get right opportunityfor the passing offense, since we're
talking about one of the premier rushingdefenses, despite their one in four
record, uh, coming out of that bye week.

(14:45):
So, uh, Maybe not the most excitingmatchups, but Nick, we each have
a game circled for week seven.
I want to focus a littlebit on the gridiron.
I want you to start with the SuperBowl rematch with the Chiefs and
the 49ers, uh, in Santa Clara.
We've got an undefeated Chiefsteam coming up the bye week.
Um, the Andy Reid postbye week stat is for real.

(15:06):
Maybe he's, you know, uh, lostone or two of those games in my
lifetime, but we have two teamsgoing in, uh, similar directions.
Unbelievable.
Injuries.
Uh, injury luck or bad luck, I should say.
And two offenses that are really beingcarried by their defenses to this point.

(15:26):
Yeah, but the difference is one ofthose teams is still undefeated.
Right.
Right.
And this kind of, this isthe lore of Kansas City.
Patrick Mahomes and AndyReed, they continue to find
ways to win football games.
Now, obviously, the Cinderella storywill eventually come to an end, but

(15:46):
right now they're still wearing thatslipper, uh, and it's actually doing
well for them because Travis Kelseydoesn't look like himself and you can
blame it on the Taylor Swift, but I,whatever you want to blame it on, but the
offense doesn't look like it needs to.
Right.
LeBron was injured early in the year.

(16:07):
You had uh, Rasheed Rice goingdown with an injury that he
sustained from his quarterback.
And then Xavier Worthy has become thenumber one outlet for the Kansas City
Chiefs, but their defense continuesto keep them in the game because
you go back to the game against theChargers about a week ago, the Chargers
really pushed them to the brink.

(16:29):
But in typical Chiefs fashion, theyfound a way to close out games.
But that's what you want todo as a championship team.
And you look at the San Francisco 49ers.
They're having injuries.
No, Christian McCaffrey,Jordan Mason is having issues.
What's going on with the offense, notbeing able to score as many points.

(16:49):
So there's, there's a lot of questionsand I know this is once again, be built
up as a super bowl rematch to me, we toodeep in the season to really call it that.
Right.
Yeah.
Or to look to last season whentalking about two different teams.
Yeah, it's two different teamsgoing into two different directions.
But I have this one circled on my, onmy calendar because I do believe it's

(17:10):
in Santa Clara and I'm sure those 49ersfans really want to let the Chiefs
fans know how much they despise them.
I may have misspoke when Italked about this 49ers team.
They are second In the NFL on offense interms of yardage, but eighth in scoring.
So a little bit of a gap there, uh,compared to no, this defense is not

(17:31):
necessarily carrying the 49ers despitethe injuries to Christian McCaffrey.
Uh, Jordan Mason with that shoulderstinger, like I've got to, got to watch
that AC joint, you know, because Nick, you would know better than I would,
uh, colliding with 300 pound guys, notparticularly good on your shoulder.
Um, so my matchup for this week wouldbe the NFC North battle with the.

(17:52):
Lions and the Vikings.
Vikings and Lions bothcoming off of their bye week.
Uh, but we're talking about one ofthe best run defenses playing host.
We're talking about undefeated team5 0 playing host to the Lions that
have the number one rushing offensein the National Football League.
Two incredibly successful runners.
Um, this is a Vikings defense thathas done really well against the run.

(18:16):
However, you go back totheir last, uh, their last.
Uh, last two seasons, so four meetings, those two running backs of, uh,
David Montgomery and Jameer Gibbs.
I'm sorry, their last, uh,three meetings when Jameer Gibbs
was, since he'd been drafted.
Um, five touchdowns bythese, uh, running back duos.
So the rule, they may be the exception tothe rule with how successful this team is.

(18:42):
So the running game is one thing, but the other is how well Jared Goff
has been set up against the Blitz.
In his last two matchups against BrianFlores, this coming from PFFdata, Goff
was Blitzed on 57 out of 77 dropbacks.
Uh, 9 yards per attempt,510 yards, 3 touchdowns, no
picks, and 121 passer rating.

(19:05):
Uh, and over the last 3 weeks ofthe season, Jared Goff's yards
per attempt against the Blitz, 21.
1 yards.
He sees multiple guyscoming under pressure.
He is going to throw that ball.
Thinking one of his guys downfield canwin their one on one matchup because the
liability in the secondary when BrianFlores sends all those guys in the rush.

(19:27):
I'm excited to see You know, um, TheLions offense against his Vikings defense.
Well, it's shaping up tobe a great divisional game.
You had Aaron Jones forthe Minnesota Vikings.
I think he's out for that game.
But, like you said, Brian Flores defense, with the exception of the Green Bay

(19:48):
Packers game with Jordan Love, and, uh,try to rally the Packers, they played
well this season and I expect for themto somewhat do it, uh, the same way.
And Jared Goff has been amazing.
So give both Jared Goff andtheir offensive coordinator, Ben
Johnson, credit for what theyhave been able to, uh, create.

(20:11):
And you mentioned, you know,Montgomery and Jameer Gibbs.
Look, those are two of the better runningback combinations in the NFL, and all
Detroit has to do, don't go lose the game.
Now, there is somewhat of an issuefor the Detroit Lions because
coming into the game, like maybetwo weeks ago, we were saying, okay,

(20:33):
well, Aiden Hutchinson is a beast.
He's going to be issues for that MinnesotaVikings offensive line, but he is out with
a shattered fibula or whatever it was.
So now if you're Aaron Glenn, where'sthat extra pressure is going to come from.
And if you can't get pressureon Sam Donald, he's got a

(20:54):
healthy Justin Jefferson.
He's got a healthy, youknow, Jordan Addison.
To me, we're going to see the ball downthe field in the vertical passing game.
So I don't know if you havegiven your prediction, but.
I'm going to say this onegoes to the Minnesota Vikings.
I'll pick the Lions.
A great offense is usually better thana great defense in the regular season.

(21:14):
In the regular season.
That's a caveat.
I want the playoffs because these, thesetwo teams are both playoff bound, whether
or not they meet in a championship gameor a divisional round remains to be seen.
Uh, Nick.
Week seven, however, kicksoff Thursday night football.
We are recording this on a Thursday anduh, Oh, i'm seeing Aaron Jones practicing

(21:37):
in a limited role for the Vikings.
So maybe we do get him involved Eventhough they're pretty efficient with
uh, Ty Chandler and they just acquiredKen Akers from the Houston Texans Joe
Mixon back to full steam Your DenverBroncos, Nick The New Orleans Saints,
Thursday night football in the big easy.
Um, we've got one of the betterdefenses in the Denver Broncos.

(22:00):
Their offense is starting toput a few things together.
They had one, what, three straight beforerunning into the chargers this past week.
So before we get into the litany of Saintsinjuries, your optimism for this Denver,
for this Denver Broncos team, that is aroad favorite on Thursday night football.
Well, my optimism is for the defensiveside of the ball, because the offense

(22:24):
has yet to really prove that theycan do it on a consistent basis.
And you know, there's any defense that'son the field for a lengthy period of time.
Eventually the opposing offense, they'regoing to pick and find their spots.
And that's what happened lastweek against the Chargers.
So this is a game that I'mpredicting that the Broncos should

(22:46):
and will win, but that doesn'tnecessarily mean there's a guarantee.
It's Thursday night.
And with Spencer Rattler getting hissecond start, Even though he's down
a couple of offensive linemen and twoof his receivers, to me I think Clint
Kubiak is going to come up with somethingbecause they got two good tight ends.
They got, uh, FosterMonroe and Juwan Johnson.

(23:08):
So, even though they may not haveChris Alave and Rasheed Shaheed,
they have two capable tight ends, and the tight ends gave the Broncos
issues, especially, uh, I guess aweek ago when they faced the Raiders.
So, I'm never gonna say never, but I still say this is a game
that the Broncos should win.

(23:30):
Let's take a walk down Narrative Street.
This is the first time that Sean Payton isback in New Orleans as the visiting coach.
Drew Brees is in attendancebecause he is being inducted into
the Saints Hall of Fame tonight.
I think he's gonna wantto take it to New Orleans.
I know things ended amicably, um,but nothing would make Sean Payton
happier than going back to thatbuilding, reminding him why there's
no other coach with, uh, you know, within 50, 60 wins of him that have

(23:56):
coached the Saints in their careers.
You know.
The wide receiver core is fascinating.
Um, with Equinemius St.
Brown joining the squad, thatmeans Mason Tipton, Cedric Wilson,
and Equinemius are the receiversavailable for the Saints tonight.
You mentioned the pair of tight ends,Taysom Hill is out for this game as well.

(24:17):
It's, it's, it's going to be, it'skind of not a turning point, but
Derek Carr is expected to miss atleast next week after this Thursday.
And they could really find themselvesafter being the hottest two and O
team in the national football league, losing five straight and this becoming
kind of a lost cause as they kind ofput themselves back in, um, you know,

(24:41):
with premium draft capital and, uh,no, no free agent space, no cap space,
making free agency difficult for them.
So I, I I'm optimistic that The Broncoscan take care of business, especially
on the defensive side of the footballwith, you know, Patrick Sertan lining
up against a rookie and, you know, theother corners being able to, um, stick

(25:08):
to their assignments so that Broncospass rush could send an extra guy or
two for Vance Joseph to play with.
So that's kind of exciting for me.
Um, this should be a getright game for Denver.
Um, three points.
It could be just a close and ugly game, which is why I think Vegas is where they
are with that, um, total projection.
So Nick, I, I, I want to say thatwe're halfway through the fantasy

(25:32):
football regular season, uh, sevenweeks into the year, but meanwhile,
Plenty more football left to get at.
I'm excited for Week 7.
Not because it's apotentially winnable game.
It's the battle for the number onepick in London with my Patriots.
But your Denver Broncos have a lot toplay for tonight on Thursday night.
So Nick, again,

(25:53):
I can't wait to see which of theserookie quarterbacks between your Bo
Nicks, the Saints Spencer Rattler, and let's throw Drake May in there.
Let's see what these guys have got.
We've already got sixrookie quarterbacks in.
I'm sure more by the end of the year.
Well, I don't want to saythat, uh, undermine the

(26:13):
skill set of Spencer Rattler.
Uh oh.
Even though he's a young quarterback.
But something I think youshould, uh, keep in mind.
PS2 is not playing in this game.
Is he not?
Oh boy.
He's not playing in this game.
That's my mistake.
He is out with a concussion.
That's right.
That's right.
He's going to be RaleighMoss and Levi Wallace.

(26:35):
And the team has just activatedDemaree Mathis for the game.
So we have to see how that all plays out.
And I would say it might even even outconsidering the fact that the Saints
are playing with some rookie receivers.
And the Broncos are playing withsome guys, even though Levi,

(26:56):
Wallace, and Damari Mathis arethe ones with the most experience.
It might even out for Clint Kubiakand Spencer Rattler, but we'll see who
takes the most shots, which team playsbetter defense, but more importantly,
what happens on the turnover battle.
That's where this game may be decided, because the Broncos were able to go on

(27:19):
that three game winning streak becausethey were able to create turnovers for
the offense on the short field, especiallyfor an offense that's been struggling.
The Broncos are one of the worstteams when it comes to, uh, running
the ball, but more importantlyon first down and third down.
So we'll see how that pans out for them.

(27:40):
Ten years in the National Football League, including with those Denver Broncos.
He's Nick Ferguson, atNickFerguson underscore 25.
Hit him with questions aboutyour teams, uh, always grinding
