Lynn Jordan: pocket, and your phone screen is (00:34):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: dark. (00:36):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It's nothing but a pricey dead weight flashlight. (00:36):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: That cold knot of panic starts to tighten in your stomach. (00:39):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It's a feeling that can be paralyzing. (00:42):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: But then, through the rising (00:44):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: fear, you remembered you'd (00:46):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: packed something far more (00:47):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: valuable than extra protein (00:49):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: bars. (00:50):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: You packed a plan and you have knowledge. (00:51):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: These aren't just abstract theories from a book. (00:55):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: These are the six core skills that took me from a moment of (00:58):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: pure uh oh, and turned it into a situation that was all good. (01:01):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: These are the tricks I personally had to test on one (01:06):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: starry, slightly spooky night alone in the Pines. (01:08):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: And they're the skills that will empower you to do the same. (01:11):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: So take a deep breath. (01:14):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: We're going to turn that fear into fuel. (01:16):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It's a perfect solo hike. (01:20):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Golden hour is painting the trees, and birds are riffing (01:22):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: their evening song. (01:24):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: And you have the entire trail to yourself. (01:25):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It's bliss. (01:28):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Until it isn't. (01:29):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Suddenly you're staring at two unmarked forks in the path. (01:30):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: And your phone shows zero signal bars. (01:33):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Your heart starts to pound. (01:36):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It's a scenario that happens more often than you think. (01:38):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: In fact, a staggering seventy (01:41):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: percent of search and rescue (01:42):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: calls for solo hikers happen (01:44):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: within just five miles of the (01:46):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: parking lot. (01:47):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: That tells you that mileage alone won't save you. (01:48):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It's not about how far you've walked, but what you know. (01:51):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Your gear is important, but your (01:56):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: know how is what truly gets you (01:57):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: home. (01:58):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: So stick around for the next few minutes. (01:59):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: By the time this is over, you'll be equipped to trade those (02:01):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: nervous jitters for a solid swagger of confidence. (02:04):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Long before the next episode on your playlist even has the (02:07):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: chance to autoplay. (02:09):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Skill one is knowing the rule of threes. (02:12):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Once in survival mode, your brain is going to be screaming a (02:15):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: million things at you at once. (02:18):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: You need a way to cut through the noise and prioritize. (02:20):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: The rule of threes is your instant mental checklist. (02:23):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It's grim, but it's the most effective to do list you'll ever (02:26):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: have when things go sideways. (02:29):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: The rule goes like this you can (02:32):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: survive for three minutes (02:34):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: without breathable air, three (02:35):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: hours without shelter in extreme (02:37):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: conditions, three days without (02:38):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: water, and three weeks without (02:40):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: food. (02:42):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It isn't just a catchy phrase. (02:43):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It's your roadmap to staying alive. (02:45):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Think of it as a triage system for your own survival. (02:48):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: What does it mean in practice? (02:51):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Breathe first. (02:53):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Always make sure you can breathe. (02:55):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Then your next priority is shelter. (02:57):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Forget about water. (03:00):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Forget about food. (03:01):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Hypothermia can set in within an hour. (03:02):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Making shelter your most immediate need to protect your (03:04):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: body from the elements. (03:06):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Once you're sheltered, you can focus on water only after you've (03:08):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: secured a safe place and a source of hydration should you (03:12):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: even begin to think about food. (03:15):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: So the order is non-negotiable. (03:17):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Breathe. (03:19):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: First. (03:20):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Build your roof. (03:20):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Second, find a sip spot. (03:21):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Third, and think about a snack. (03:23):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Last. (03:25):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Any other order of operations is (03:26):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: just procrastination and a (03:28):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: fleece jacket. (03:29):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: The next time you lace up your boots for a hike, or put in a (03:31):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: position where you have to bug out into the wild, say it loud. (03:34):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Air. (03:37):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Shelter. (03:38):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Water. (03:39):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Food. (03:40):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Drilling this order into your memory helps keep your brain (03:41):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: from tapping out from panic when you need it most. (03:43):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It gives you purpose and a clear sequential plan. (03:46):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Skill two being able to create a shelter fast. (03:50):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: When the temperature drops, the (03:54):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: ground becomes a massive heat (03:55):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: sink, stealing your body warmth (03:57):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: faster than a cold air around (03:59):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: you. (04:00):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Your mission is to get yourself off the cold ground and out of (04:01):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: the wind as quickly as possible. (04:03):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Don't wander for miles looking for the perfect spot. (04:05):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Good enough is perfect. (04:09):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: First, find your location. (04:11):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Look for two sturdy trees about a shoulder width apart. (04:13):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: This will be the frame for your shelter. (04:16):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Critically, position your (04:18):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: shelter so that your back is to (04:20):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: the wind, creating a natural (04:21):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: windbreak. (04:22):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: And always park yourself downhill from any large dead (04:24):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: trees or loose branches. (04:26):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: What experienced Woodman's call widowmakers that could go timber (04:28):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: in the middle of the night? (04:32):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Next insulation. (04:34):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: This is the most important part. (04:36):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Rake up a massive pile of dry (04:38):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: leaves, ferns, pine needles, (04:39):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: anything loose and fluffy you (04:41):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: can find. (04:43):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: You need a minimum of eight (04:44):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: inches of compressed bedding (04:45):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: between your body and the (04:46):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: ground. (04:48):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: The ground is a bigger thief of your body heat than the air. (04:49):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: So this mattress is your number one defense against the cold. (04:52):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Now Roof. (04:56):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Find a long, sturdy branch to serve as a ridgepole and lay it (04:57):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: across the two trees, then lean shorter, stout branches against (05:00):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: the ridgepole at a steep forty five degree angle, you're (05:04):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: essentially shingling a tiny, primitive A-frame cabin. (05:08):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Once your frame is up, start cramming it with more debris. (05:11):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Pack every available inch with leaves, moss, and pine boughs (05:15):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: until you can't see any daylight through the walls. (05:18):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: A half an hour of focused hard work. (05:21):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Stuffing a shelter now equals (05:23):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: eight hours of not shivering (05:25):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: later. (05:26):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: That simple survival math even I'll do skill three is fire (05:27):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: without the fuss. (05:31):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Fire is more than just warmth. (05:33):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It's a psychological boost, a signal, a way to purify water (05:35):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: and a predator deterrent. (05:39):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: But you can't afford to fuss with it. (05:41):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: You need a reliable method. (05:42):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: First find your Tinder. (05:44):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Forget about trying to light damp leaves. (05:46):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Scrape the paper thin inner bark of a downed birch or cedar tree. (05:48):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: You want a fluffy handful of (05:52):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: this material, as it will catch (05:53):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: a spark even after a light (05:54):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: drizzle. (05:56):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Other excellent natural tenders include cattail fluff and the (05:57):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: resin soaked heartwood of a pine stump, also known as fatwood. (06:00):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Next, create your spark. (06:04):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: A ferrocerium rod or ferro rod is your best friend here. (06:06):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It's not a lighter. (06:10):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It throws a shower of incredibly hot sparks in any weather. (06:11):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Angle your ferro rod at about (06:15):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: forty five degrees into your (06:16):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: tinder bundle. (06:17):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Now take a sharp ninety degree (06:18):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: spine of your knife and press it (06:21):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: firmly against the rod with a (06:22):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: quick, forceful flick of your (06:24):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: wrist. (06:25):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Scrape the knife down the rod, (06:26):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: directing the fireworks of (06:29):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: molten metal right into your (06:30):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: tinder. (06:32):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: If you don't have a ferro rod or magnesium stick, always be sure (06:32):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: to have a lighter or waterproof matches in your backpack. (06:35):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Don't get ambitious. (06:39):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Your first fire should be a tiny (06:41):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: teepee of twigs no taller than (06:42):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: your fist. (06:44):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: An ego doesn't burn, but small, dry twigs do. (06:45):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Gently blow at the base of your ember in the tinder bundle until (06:49):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: it ignites into a small flame. (06:52):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Then nurture it. (06:54):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Feed it the smallest, driest twigs you have. (06:55):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: When it starts to crackle like Rice Krispies, you can gradually (06:58):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: graduate to thumb sized sticks. (07:01):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: The pride of starting a fire (07:03):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: with one match is cute for (07:04):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Instagram, but the life saving (07:05):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: skill of One Spark Reliability (07:07):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: is what makes you a queen out (07:09):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: here. (07:11):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Skill four is water wisdom. (07:12):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Dehydration is a sneaky enemy. (07:15):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It drains your energy, clouds (07:17):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: your judgment, and can (07:18):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: incapacitate you within a couple (07:19):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: of days. (07:21):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: So how do you find water? (07:22):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Let nature be your guide. (07:24):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Mosquitoes, as annoying as they are, are tiny buzzing GPS units. (07:25):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Their presence, especially around dusk, almost guarantees (07:30):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: that a stagnant water source is within a couple of hundred feet. (07:33):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Listen for their buzz and follow the sound. (07:39):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Certain plants are also giant green signposts for water. (07:42):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Cattails and willows are the most reliable indicators. (07:46):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: They love having wet feet and will only grow where there is a (07:49):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: consistent source of water nearby, either on the surface or (07:52):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: just below it. (07:55):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Follow a line of these plants downhill and you'll likely find (07:56):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: a trickle, a seep, or a stream. (07:59):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Once you've located your water (08:02):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: source, you need to make it (08:03):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: safe. (08:04):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Even the clearest water mountain (08:06):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: stream can be teeming with (08:07):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: invisible bacteria and (08:09):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: parasites. (08:10):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: First pre-filter the water. (08:11):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Lay a bandana or piece of your shirt over the mouth of your (08:13):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: water bottle as you fill it. (08:16):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: This will strain out sediment, (08:17):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: insect larvae and other (08:19):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: floaties. (08:20):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: No one needs extra protein rich wigglers in their drink, but (08:21):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: filtering is not purifying to kill the microscopic threats. (08:26):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: And you don't have a personal (08:30):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: portable filtration device like (08:31):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: a lifestraw. (08:33):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: You must either treat it or boil it. (08:34):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Pop in a chemical purification (08:36):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: tablet and wait the required (08:38):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: time. (08:39):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: If you don't have tabs, tubs. (08:40):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Boiling is your best bet. (08:41):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Bring the water to a rolling (08:43):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: boil for at least one full (08:44):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: minute. (08:46):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: If you're at a high elevation over six thousand five hundred (08:47):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: feet, you will need to boil it for three full minutes. (08:49):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Remember, clear does not mean clean. (08:52):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Giardia is an invisible (08:56):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: intestinal parasite that is (08:57):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: utterly unforgettable. (08:59):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: And trust me, that's not (09:00):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: something you want to (09:01):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: experience. (09:02):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Skill five signal like you mean it. (09:04):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: If you're lost, your job is to stay put and make it easy for (09:07):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: rescuers to find you. (09:10):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: You need to signal, and you need (09:12):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: to do it in a way that's (09:13):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: universally understood as a call (09:14):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: for help. (09:16):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: The number one rule of signaling is the rule of threes. (09:17):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Three is the international signal for distress. (09:20):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: That means three loud whistle (09:23):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: blasts in a row, or three fires (09:24):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: laid out in a large triangle, or (09:27):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: three fires laid out in a large (09:30):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: triangle, or three flashes from (09:32):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: a mirror. (09:34):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: This pattern communicates I need (09:35):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: help to anyone who sees or hears (09:37):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: it. (09:39):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: If you're using fires to signal, space them in a clear (09:40):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: equilateral triangle at least ten feet apart. (09:43):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: This ensures that a pilot flying overhead recognizes it as an (09:46):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: intentional, man made signal for help, not just a single campfire (09:49):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: for roasting weenies. (09:53):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: A tiny, polished piece of metal (09:55):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: can be your most powerful (09:57):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: daytime tool. (09:58):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: You don't need a fancy signal. (09:59):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Mirror the polished bottom of a soda can, a credit card, or even (10:00):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: your knife blade can work. (10:04):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: The trick is aiming it. (10:06):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Hold the reflector near your eye (10:08):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: and make a V with your other (10:09):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: hand. (10:10):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Extend that arm and frame your target. (10:11):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: A distant plane or a search party with in the V. Then bounce (10:13):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: the sun's reflection from the mirror onto your V and you'll (10:18):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: know you're hitting your target. (10:22):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It throws a sun signal like a tiny, powerful disco ball that (10:23):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: can be seen for miles. (10:26):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: If you hear an engine from a plane or a helicopter, don't (10:28):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: just stand there. (10:31):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Movement beats color every single time. (10:32):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Lie down in an open area and wave both of your arms and legs (10:35):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: to create a large Y shape for yes, I need help. (10:38):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Then the most important part stay parked. (10:42):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Once you start signaling, do not move from that location. (10:45):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Wandering turns a simple needle hunt into a frustrating haystack (10:48):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: fiasco for your rescuers. (10:51):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Skill number six is the self-defense mindset. (10:54):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Survival isn't just about your physical skills. (10:58):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: It's about your mindset. (11:01):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Your confidence, or lack (11:02):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: thereof, sends a powerful (11:04):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: signal. (11:05):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Walk like you know where you're going. (11:06):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Like you've got a cozy cabin (11:08):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: waiting for you just around the (11:09):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: bend. (11:11):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Even if you feel cosmically (11:11):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: lost, confidence is cheap and (11:13):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: effective camouflage. (11:15):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Projecting purpose makes you look less like a victim and more (11:16):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: like someone who belongs. (11:20):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: This applies to your tools as well. (11:22):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Keep your knife in your pocket (11:24):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: or easily accessible on your (11:25):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: belt. (11:27):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Not buried at the bottom of your pack in an emergency. (11:27):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Two second access beats two (11:30):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: minutes of frantically digging (11:32):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: and saying it's in here (11:34):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: somewhere. (11:35):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: If you meet a four legged predator like a coyote or a (11:36):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: black bear, your goal is to show them you're a not prey. (11:39):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Never run. (11:42):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Stand your ground. (11:43):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Make yourself look as large as possible by raising your jacket (11:45):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: or trekking poles over your head and back away slowly, speaking (11:48):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: in a low, firm voice. (11:51):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: They almost always want a drama free exit, and a large, loud, (11:53):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: non-threatening human is not worth the trouble. (11:57):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: and avoid eye contact as much as possible. (11:59):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: You don't want to take the chance of challenging them. (12:03):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Two legged weirdos, on the other hand, often rely on the element (12:06):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: of surprise and silence. (12:10):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: If someone makes you (12:11):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: uncomfortable, shatter that (12:12):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: silence immediately. (12:14):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Make eye contact and greet them (12:15):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: in a loud, clear, assertive (12:17):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: voice. (12:18):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Hello. (12:19):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Nice day. (12:20):
undefined

Lynn Jordan: Predators, human or otherwise hate auditions. (12:21):

Gabe Ortiz becomes a third-highest ranking officer in all of Texas while his younger brother Larry climbs the ranks in Puro Tango Blast, a notorious Texas Prison gang. Gabe doesn’t know all the details of his brother’s nefarious dealings, and he’s made a point not to ask, to protect their relationship.
