(00:07):
Hey everybody, welcome to a bonus littlemini episode of Vibing the Apocalypse.
I'm here with my friend, Alaina Hershey.
Alaina's going to be on the NightbreakComedy Show tomorrow night at Land of
a Thousand Hills in Daybreak, wherethey currently are selling beer.
They have their beer license, so makesure that you come out and check that out.
Um, Alaina's a really good friend of mine.

(00:27):
She's hilarious.
She's going to come out and do some standup for us tomorrow night, and I wanted to
just let us get to know her a little bit.
So Alaina, thanks for coming on,uh, this very official podcast.
Thank you, Ben.
It's an honor to be here.
This is really probably going to be thepinnacle of your podcasting, um, career.

(00:47):
This is really the top, and I'm justglad to be here at the top with you.
Yeah, and you're not wrong.
This is the secondpodcast I've ever been on.
So I'd say it's also the best.
Easily the best.
Easily.
Um, I, I just have three questions foryou, uh, to, uh, help our listeners

(01:10):
get to know you a little bit inpreparation for tomorrow's show.
The first question is, um, how doyou feel when someone finds out that
you're a stand up comic and thentells you to tell them the joke?
Um, I feel, um, in aword, I guess, scared.

(01:37):
It always, um, elicitsfear and, um, dread.
Because, um, It doesn't work like that.
What do you, what do you usually say?
It's actually,

(01:59):
you know, it's funny that you saythis because at work yesterday, um,
a girl asked me that and she foundout it was a standup and then she
was like, yeah, Oh, tell me a joke.
And I just looked at her and I said, no,
which normally

(02:19):
I honestly, I felt bad becauseI was like, that's all I said.
I said, no.
And then everyone kind oflike awkwardly laughed.
And I was like, and then I hadto like explain as I went back.
I was like, Oh, like I'mnot normally that direct.
It came off kind of mean, but,uh, I just want to say thank you.

(02:40):
But normally I'd be like, Oh,
Yeah, I know.
I, I'm like, because it, we get that alot and you have to like dance around it.
All the time.
And it's always like, the worstpart about it for me is It's, you
can't, if you know a joke is coming, joking, it's all about the surprise.

(03:04):
If you know I'm about to surpriseyou, you're not going to be surprised.
It's not going to work.
It's not going to work.
It's not going to work.
And,
and also like, I'm like in character, like I'm acting a little bit when I'm
on stage and like, I'm not going todo that with like three coworkers.
Like it's just not going to happen.

(03:26):
It's so embarrassing.
And now I'm this person.
I love it.
Okay, great.
Exactly.
It's like, no.
Fabulous answer.
That's easily my favorite answer tothat question I've received so far.
Thank you.
Question number two.
Um, what is, is there somethingodd or quirky or strange about you
that you're particularly proud of?

(03:51):
Um, okay, so I have a little bitof OCD and so I, um, I have, I
don't know, have you heard ofNotion ? I have heard of Notion.
I have.
Okay.
This is like, I'm Okay.
So I love Notion . I love, I like, this is probably bad for my OCD.

(04:15):
It's like really indulging myobsessions and compulsions.
But, like, I track so much stuff on there.
I track, like, all my purchases.
I have, like, a to do list every day.
I have, like, my shopping list.
Anyways, so, it really, like, feedsmy obsession with control, but

(04:37):
it's beautiful and it's perfect.
I love that for you so much.
I love, I love that the universejust created this beautiful
little gift for your OCD brain.
I know.
I know.
Yeah, I know.
It's like, I don't know thatmy therapist would say I should
be proud of this, but I am.

(05:00):
So.
I am also proud of it for you.
I should also mention I amdefinitely not a therapist.
Thank you, Ben.
I appreciate that.
Yeah.
Well, oh well.
I am a therapist, which is maybe better.
Um, okay.
So, last question, Alaina.

(05:20):
Uh, what do you know about Daybreak?
Oh, what do I know about Daybreak?
Okay.
Um, not that much, but one timeI dated a guy who, he lived
in Daybreak with his parents.
And so, good for him, um,why not save some money?

(05:42):
Um, but um,
he broke up.
Oh my god, moving back home tolive with your parents in Daybreak?
Really put some perspective onthe millennial experience, because
some of us don't have parentsin Daybreak to move back to.
Yeah, yeah.
Not bad for him.
No, you're, yeah, same.

(06:06):
But, um, okay, therewas a really nice lake.
Everyone seemed very friendly.
It kind of was giving, um, Do you guys, okay, you remember Spongebob Squarepants
in that one episode where Squidward,um, starts his own Squidward Town?
No.
I'm trying to remember what it was called.

(06:28):
Oh my gosh, this is, okay, oh yeah, you grew up on the compound, okay.
Let me look it up.
It kind of reminded me of that place.
Where, like, everything, oh no.
Oh, Tentacle Acres is what it was called.
So Daybreak reminds you ofthe town of Squidward's Town.

(06:55):
Yeah, where like, it's called TentacleAcres and everything was the same.
And so that reminds me of Daybreak.
Well, I'm so excited to haveyou come out to Daybreak to
do some comedy tomorrow at 7.
30 at Land of a Thousand Hills.
So it's gonna be sick.
Guys, Alaina, thanks for coming on.

(07:15):
Uh, we'll see you tomorrow.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
