(00:03):
What's up, Las Vegas?
It's your host, the Fresh KingBenjamin from Comedy Rumble.
I'm here with our week eight winnerof Comedy Rumble, Steven Roberts,
and Steven is going to be on theComedy Rumble All Stars happening
in just a little bit on February7th at the Arts District, Wise Guys.
Uh, Steven, how's it going?
Good.
How are
you?
Such a pleasure.
I'm doing really well.
Thanks for coming on.

(00:24):
Um, so just a couple quick questionsfor you to let the audience
get to know you a little bit.
First is, um, how, how didyou get into stand up comedy?
Uh, I wanted to do it since I was a littlekid, but never thought I would be able to.
So at the age of 43, when I was, when I moved for a job transfer in
insurance to Las Vegas, I told myselfI was going to try it at least once.

(00:47):
And, uh, what does a middleaged white American guy do?
He takes a class.
So I took, I took a comedywriting class with Jerry Corley.
It was a weekend intensiveand it all started from
there.
Oh, that's so awesome.
And how long have you been doing standup?

(01:08):
When was that?
How long have you beendoing it since then?
It'll be 13 years this year.
Damn.
That is so cool.
Ah, I love that.
Um, is there a moment that youremember on stage and it can be
from any, anytime during those 13years, is there a particular moment
that you remember that's like oneof your favorite moments on stage?

(01:28):
Well, I have a lot of them anduh, to ask me makes me have
to think for just a second.
So let me think favorite moment on stage.
Gosh, there's so, there's so many andI know I'm gonna, I'm gonna say the
wrong thing and I'm gonna be like,Oh, what, why did I remember that one?
But I think one of the best thingsthat ever happened to me on stage

(01:53):
was, uh, I was brand new HarryBasil from the Laugh Factory.
Had let me go up on a guest setand I have just, I was so nervous.
I bombed.
And then he let me back three weeks later.
So I'm going to giveyou another chance, kid.
I'm going to let you.
And I went up and it just went so well.
And then after, uh, hehugged me three times.

(02:15):
Oh, I love that.
Ah, that's such a great moment too, because like I just had, I just had
a comedian at the Salt Lake rumble.
who did really well whenhe was on the rumble.
He's brand new.
It was like his fourth time everon stage when he did the rumble.
And then I invited him back for a,for a, like a, uh, guest feature spot.
And he kind of bombed, he kind ofbombed on his guest feature spot.

(02:36):
And afterwards he messaged me andhe was like, Oh, I'm so sorry.
Like I've, I've, that was areally learning moment for me.
It was really good for me.
And I'd love to comeback if you'll have me.
And I was like, dude, ofcourse I will have you back.
Of course I will have you back.
That's part of the process.
And if You have to get up there and youhave to eat shit and once you do that,
then you're like, Oh, that's what that is.

(02:58):
And
yeah, I learned how to learnhow to power through nervousness
was a, was a real lesson for me.
How, how to power through, howto fake it till you make it, you
know, how to transfer nervousness.
Into confidence, allof that kind of stuff.
Yeah, and that can only happen on stage.
Like, you can only do that.

(03:18):
Over and over and over.
It takes practice.
Through that, through that experience.
I love that story.
Um, so, so, uh, next question is, um, doyou, sometimes when I, when people find
out that I'm a stand up comic, the, oneof the first questions they'll ask me is,
they'll be like, well, tell me a joke.
I'm just curious if that happensto you and how does it make
you feel when people do that?
Happens all the timeand I just say pay me.

(03:42):
Oh okay, pay me.
I love that response, that's great.
Um, last question, do you havea favorite like street joke?
Yes, yes I do.
Uh, two condoms were walking downthe street, passed by a gay bar.
One condom looked at the othercondom and said, Hey, you want

(04:02):
to go in there and get shitfaced?
Ah, that is such a good joke.
And if you guys want to hear awhole bunch more, Awesome jokes
from our own Steven Roberts and allthe other winners of Comedy Rumble.
Do not miss Comedy Rumble AllStars, February 7th, 9pm at the Arts
